All wavelets can be associated to a multiresolution like structure, i.e. an incr easing sequence of subspaces of L^2(R). We consider the interaction of a wavel et and the translation operator in terms of which of the subspaces in this multi resolution like structure are invariant under the translation operator. This ac tion defines the notion of the translation invariance property of order n. In this paper we show that wavelets of all levels of translation invariance exist, first for the classic case of dilation by 2, and then for arbitrary integral di lation factors.
An examination of the translation invariance of $V_0$ under dyadic rationals is presented, generating a new equivalence relation on the collection of wavelets. The equivalence classes under this relation are completely characterized in terms of the support of the Fourier transform of the wavelet. Using operator interpolation, it is shown that several equivalence classes are non-empty.
A traditional wavelet is a special case of a vector in a separable Hilbert space that generates a basis under the action of a system of unitary operators defined in terms of translation and dilation operations. A Coxeter/fractal-surface wavelet is obtained by defining fractal surfaces on foldable figures, which tesselate the embedding space by reflections in their bounding hyperplanes instead of by translations along a lattice. Although both theories look different at their onset, there exist connections and communalities which are exhibited in this semi-expository paper. In particular, there …
By using a coset of closed subgroup, we define a Fourier like transform for locally compact abelian (LCA) topological groups. We studied two wavelet multipliers and Landau-Pollak-Slepian operators on locally compact abelian topological groups associated to the transform and show that the transforms are $L^p$bounded linear operators, and are in Schatten p-class for $1\leq p\leq \infty$. Finally, we determine their trace class and also obtain a connection with the generalized Landau-Pollak-Slepian operators.
Wavelet families arise by scaling and translations of a prototype function, called the {\em {mother wavelet}}. The construction of wavelet bases for cardinal spline spaces is generally carried out within the multi-resolution analysis scheme. Thus, the usual way of increasing the dimension of the multi-resolution subspaces is by augmenting the scaling factor. We show here that, when working on a compact interval, the identical effect can be achieved without changing the wavelet scale but reducing the translation parameter. By such a procedure we generate a redundant frame, called a {\em{diction…
Spectral representations of the dilation and translation operators on $L^2({\mathbb R})$ are built through appropriate bases. Orthonormal wavelets and multiresolution analysis are then described in terms of rigid operator-valued functions defined on the functional spectral spaces. The approach is useful for computational purposes.
Explicit formulae are given for a type of Battle-Lemarié scaling functions and related wavelets. Compactly supported sums of their translations are established and applied to alternative norm characterization of sequence spaces isometrically isomorphic to Nikolskii-Besov spaces on R.
Using Pathak and Pathak techniques, the basic function $D^α(u,v,w)$ associated with general novel fractional wavelet transform (GNFrWT)is defined and its properties are investigated. By using basic function $D^α(u,v,w)$ translation and convolution associated with GNFrWT are defined and certain existence theorems are proved for basic function and associated convolution.
In this article we establish theory of semi-orthogonal Parseval wavelets associated to generalized multiresolution analysis (GMRA) for the local field of positive characteristics (LFPC). By employing the properties of translation invariant spaces on the core space of GMRA we obtain a characterization of semi-orthogonal Parseval wavelets in terms of consistency equation for LFPC. As a consequence, we obtain a characterization of an orthonormal (multi)wavelet to be associated with an MRA in terms of multiplicity function as well as dimension function of a (multi)wavelet. Further, we provide char…
Gabardo and Nashed have studied nonuniform wavelets based on the theory of spectral pairs for which the associated translation set $Λ=\left\{ 0,r/N\right\}+2\,\mathbb Z$ is no longer a discrete subgroup of $\mathbb R$ but a spectrum associated with a certain one-dimensional spectral pair and the associated dilation is an even positive integer related to the given spectral pair. In this paper, we construct the associated wavelet frames and establish some sufficient conditions that ensure the nonuniform wavelet system $\left\{ ψ_{j, λ}(x)= (2N)^{j/2}ψ\big( (2N)^{j}x-λ\big), j\in \mathbb Z, λ\in …
In this work we introduce a class of discrete groups containing subgroups of abstract translations and dilations, respectively. A variety of wavelet systems can appear as $π(\G)ψ$, where $π$ is a unitary representation of a wavelet group and $\G$ is the abstract pseudo-lattice $\G$. We prove a condition in order that a Parseval frame $π(\G)ψ$ can be dilated to an orthonormal basis of the form $τ(\G)Ψ$ where $τ$ is a super-representation of $π$. For a subclass of groups that includes the case where the translation subgroup is Heisenberg, we show that this condition always holds, and we cite fam…
We define the local trace function for subspaces of $\ltworn$ which are invariant under integer translation. Our trace function contains the dimension function and the spectral function defined by Bownik and Rzeszotnik and completely characterizes the given translation invariant subspace. It has properties such as positivity, additivity, monotony and some form of continuity. It behaves nicely under dilations and modulations. We use the local trace function to deduce, using short and simple arguments, some fundamental facts about wavelets such as the characterizing equations, the equality betwe…
We present a construction of a wavelet-type orthonormal basis for the space of radial $L^2$-functions in $\R^3$ via the concept of a radial multiresolution analysis. The elements of the basis are obtained from a single radial wavelet by usual dilations and generalized translations. Hereby the generalized translation reveals the group convolution of radial functions in $\R^3$. We provide a simple way to construct a radial scaling function and a radial wavelet from an even classical scaling function on $\R$. Furthermore, decomposition and reconstruction algorithms are formulated.
In this paper we show that the Fourier transform induces an isomorphism between the coorbit spaces defined by Feichtinger and Gröchenig of the mixed, weighted Lebesgue spaces $L_{v}^{p,q}$ with respect to the quasi-regular representation of a semi-direct product $\mathbb{R}^{d}\rtimes H$ with suitably chosen dilation group $H$, and certain decomposition spaces $\mathcal{D}\left(\mathcal{Q},L^{p},\ell_{u}^{q}\right)$ (essentially as introduced by Feichtinger and Gröbner), where the localized ,,parts`` of a function are measured in the $\mathcal{F}L^{p}$-norm. This equivalence is useful in sever…
We study singly-generated wavelet systems on $\Bbb R^2$ that are naturally associated with rank-one wavelet systems on the Heisenberg group $N$. We prove a necessary condition on the generator in order that any such system be a Parseval frame. Given a suitable subset $I$ of the dual of $N$, we give an explicit construction for Parseval frame wavelets that are associated with $I$. We say that $g\in L^2(I\times \Bbb R)$ is Gabor field over $I$ if, for a.e. $λ\in I$, $|λ|^{1/2} g(λ,\cdot)$ is the Gabor generator of a Parseval frame for $L^2(\Bbb R)$, and that $I$ is a Heisenberg wavelet set if ev…
Using the C* algebraic scattering approach to study quasifree fermionic systems out of equilibrium in quantum statistical mechanics, we construct the nonequilibrium steady state in the isotropic XY chain whose translation invariance has been broken by a local magnetization and analyze the asymptotic behavior of the expectation value for a class of spatial correlation observables in this state. The effect of the breaking of translation invariance is twofold. Mathematically, the finite rank perturbation not only regularizes the scalar symbol of the invertible Toeplitz operator generating the lea…
A shift-invariant space is a space of functions that is invariant under integer translations. Such spaces are often used as models for spaces of signals and images in mathematical and engineering applications. This paper characterizes those shift-invariant subspaces S that are also invariant under additional (non-integer) translations. For the case of finitely generated spaces, these spaces are characterized in terms of the generators of the space. As a consequence, it is shown that principal shift-invariant spaces with a compactly supported generator cannot be invariant under any non-integer …
This paper constructs translation invariant operators on L2(R^d), which are Lipschitz continuous to the action of diffeomorphisms. A scattering propagator is a path ordered product of non-linear and non-commuting operators, each of which computes the modulus of a wavelet transform. A local integration defines a windowed scattering transform, which is proved to be Lipschitz continuous to the action of diffeomorphisms. As the window size increases, it converges to a wavelet scattering transform which is translation invariant. Scattering coefficients also provide representations of stationary pro…
In this paper we offer a computational approach to the spectral function for a finite family of commuting operators, and give applications. Motivated by questions in wavelets and in signal processing, we study a problem about spectral concentration of integral translations of functions in the Hilbert space $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$. Our approach applies more generally to families of $n$ arbitrary commuting unitary operators in a complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, or equivalent the spectral theory of a unitary representation $U$ of the rank-$n$ lattice $\mathbb{Z}^{n}$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$.
