The Lie algebra $sl(3,\C)$ is considered in the basis of generalized Pauli matrices. Corresponding grading is the Pauli grading here. It is one of the four gradings of the algebra which cannot be further refined.
The set $\es$ of 48 contraction equations for 24 contraction parameters is solved. Our main tools are the symmetry group of the Pauli grading of $sl(3,\C)$, which is essentially the finite group $SL(2,\Z_3)$, and the induced symmetry of the system $\es$. A list of all equivalence classes of solutions of the contraction equations is provided. Among the solutions, 175 equivalence classes are non-parametric and 13 solutions depend on one or two continuous parameters, providing a continuum of equivalence classes and subsequently continuum of non-isomorphic Lie algebras.
Solutions of the contraction equations of Pauli graded $sl(3,\bC)$ are identified here as specific solvable Lie algebras of dimensions up to 8. Earlier algorithms for identification of Lie algebras, given by their structure constants, had to be made more efficient in order to distinguish non-isomorphic Lie algebras encountered here.
Resulting Lie algebras are summarized in tabular form. There are 88 indecomposable solvable Lie algebras of dimension 8, 77 of them being nilpotent. There are 11 infinite sets of parametric Lie algebras which still deserve further study.
The Gell-Mann grading, one of the four gradings of sl(3,C) that cannot be further refined, is considered as the initial grading for the graded contraction procedure. Using the symmetries of the Gell-Mann grading, the system of contraction equations is reduced and solved. Each non-trivial solution of this system determines a Lie algebra which is not isomorphic to the original algebra sl(3,C). The resulting 53 contracted algebras are divided into two classes - the first is represented by the algebras which are also continuous Inonu-Wigner contractions, the second is formed by the discrete graded…
The general solution of the graded contraction equations for a $\zz_2^{\otimes N}$ grading of the real compact simple Lie algebra $so(N+1)$ is presented in an explicit way. It turns out to depend on $2^N-1$ independent real parameters. The structure of the general graded contractions is displayed for the low dimensional cases, and kinematical algebras are shown to appear straightforwardly. The geometrical (or physical) meaning of the contraction parameters as curvatures is also analysed; in particular, for kinematical algebras these curvatures are directly linked to geometrical properties of p…
Galilean conformal algebras can be constructed by contracting a finite number of conformal algebras, and enjoy truncated $\mathbb{Z}$-graded structures. Here, we present a generalisation of the Galilean contraction procedure, giving rise to Galilean conformal algebras with truncated $\mathbb{Z}^{\otimesσ}$-gradings, $σ\in\mathbb{N}$. Detailed examples of these multi-graded Galilean algebras are provided, including extensions of the Galilean Virasoro and affine Kac-Moody algebras. We also derive the associated Sugawara constructions and discuss how these examples relate to multivariable extensi…
We consider the grading of $sl(n,\mathbb{C})$ by the group $Π_n$ of generalized Pauli matrices. The grading decomposes the Lie algebra into $n^2-1$ one--dimensional subspaces. In the article we demonstrate that the normalizer of grading decomposition of $sl(n,\mathbb{C})$ in $Π_n$ is the group $SL(2, \mathbb{Z}_n)$, where $\mathbb{Z}_n$ is the cyclic group of order $n$. As an example we consider $sl(3,\mathbb{C})$ graded by $Π_3$ and all contractions preserving that grading. We show that the set of 48 quadratic equations for grading parameters splits into just two orbits of the normalizer of t…
We construct a graded Lie algebra $\mathcal{E}$ in which the Maurer-Cartan equation is equivalent to the vacuum Einstein equations. The gauge groupoid is the groupoid of rank 4 real vector bundles with a conformal inner product, over a 4-dimensional base manifold, and the graded Lie algebra construction is a functor out of this groupoid. As usual, each Maurer-Cartan element in $\mathcal{E}^1$ yields a differential on $\mathcal{E}$. Its first homology is linearized gravity about that element. We introduce a gauge-fixing algorithm that generates, for each gauge object $G$, a contraction to a muc…
We investigate certain $Z_3$-graded associative algebras with cubic $Z_3$-invariant constitutive relations. The invariant forms on finite algebras of this type are given in the low dimensional cases with two or three generators. We show how the Lorentz symmetry represented by the $SL(2, {\bf C})$ group emerges naturally without any notion of Minkowskian metric, just as the invariance group of the $Z_3$-graded cubic algebra and its constitutive relations. Its representation is found in terms of Pauli matrices. The relationship of this construction with the operators defining quark states is als…
In this thesis new objects to the existing set of invariants of Lie algebras are added. These invariant characteristics are capable of describing the nilpotent parametric continuum of Lie algebras. The properties of these invariants, in view of possible alternative classifications of Lie algebras, are formulated and their behaviour on known lower--dimensional Lie algebras investigated. It is demonstrated that these invariants, in view of their application on graded contractions of sl(3,C), are also effective in higher dimensions. A necessary contraction criterion involving these invariants is …
The nine two-dimensional Cayley-Klein geometries are firstly reviewed by following a graded contraction approach. Each geometry is considered as a set of three symmetrical homogeneous spaces (of points and two kinds of lines), in such a manner that the graded contraction parameters determine their curvature and signature. Secondly, new Poisson homogeneous spaces are constructed by making use of certain Poisson-Lie structures on the corresponding motion groups. Therefore, the quantization of these spaces provides noncommutative analogues of the Cayley-Klein geometries. The kinematical interpret…
Background: The reduced, level-independent, Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer Hamiltonian is exactly diagonalizable by means of a Bethe Ansatz wavefunction, provided the free variables in the Ansatz are the solutions of the set of Richardson-Gaudin equations. On the one side, the Bethe Ansatz is a simple product state of generalised pair operators. On the other hand, the Richardson-Gaudin equations are strongly coupled in a non-linear way, making them prone to singularities. Unfortunately, it is non-trivial to give a clear physical interpretation to the Richardson-Gaudin variables because no physical …
A class of representations of the $\mathbb{Z}_2\times\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded special linear Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{sl}(m_1+1,m_2|n_1,n_2)$ and quantum statistics
We present a systematic procedure to obtain singular solutions of the constant quantum Yang-Baxter equation in arbitrary dimension. This approach, inspired in the Lie (super)algebra structure, is explicitly applied to the particular case of (graded) contractions of the orthogonal real algebra ${\mathfrak{so}}(N+1)$. In this way we show that "classical" contraction parameters which appear in the commutation relations of the contracted Lie algebras, become quantum deformation parameters, arising as entries of the resulting quantum $R$-matrices.
A Lie-Hamilton system is a nonautonomous system of first-order ordinary differential equations describing the integral curves of a $t$-dependent vector field taking values in a finite-dimensional Lie algebra, a Vessiot-Guldberg Lie algebra, of Hamiltonian vector fields relative to a Poisson structure. Its general solution can be written as an autonomous function, the superposition rule, of a generic finite family of particular solutions and a set of constants. We pioneer the study of Lie-Hamilton systems on Riemannian spaces (sphere, Euclidean and hyperbolic plane), pseudo-Riemannian spaces (a…
We consider a class of asymptotic representations of the Borel subalgebra of the quantum affine superalgebra U_q(gl(M|N)^). This is characterized by Drinfeld rational fractions. In particular, we consider contractions of U_q(gl(M|N)) in the FRT formulation and obtain explicit solutions of the graded Yang-Baxter equation in terms of q-oscillator superalgebras. These solutions correspond to L-operators for Baxter Q-operators. We also discuss an extension of these representations to the ones for contracted algebras of U_q(gl(M|N)^) by considering the action of renormalized generators of the other…
We show that the maximal extension sl(2) times psl(2|2) times C3 of the sl(2|2) superalgebra can be obtained as a contraction limit of the semi-simple superalgebra d(2,1;epsilon) times sl(2). We reproduce earlier results on the corresponding q-deformed Hopf algebra and its universal R-matrix by means of contraction. We make the curious observation that the above algebra is related to kappa-Poincaré symmetry. When dropping the graded part psl(2|2) we find a novel one-parameter deformation of the 3D kappa-Poincaré algebra. Our construction also provides a concise exact expression for its univers…
We determine the central extensions of a whole family of Lie algebras, obtained by the method of graded contractions from so(N+1), N arbitrary. All the inhomogeneous orthogonal and pseudo-orthogonal algebras are members of this family, as well as a large number of other non-semisimple algebras, all of which have at least a semidirect structure (in some cases two or more). The dimensions of their second cohomology groups H^2(G,R) and the explicit expression of their central extensions are given.
The Cayley-Klein (CK) formalism is applied to the real algebra ${so}(5)$ by making use of four graded contraction parameters describing in a unified setting 81 Lie algebras, which cover the (anti-)de Sitter, Poincaré, Newtonian and Carrollian algebras. Starting with the Drinfel'd-Jimbo real Lie bialgebra for ${so}(5)$ together with its Drinfel'd double structure, we obtain the corresponding CK bialgebra and the CK $r$-matrix coming from a Drinfel'd double. As a novelty, we construct the (first-order) noncommutative CK spaces of points, lines, 2-planes and 3-hyperplanes, studying their structur…
The semisimple part of d-dimensional Galilean conformal algebra g^(d) is given by h^(d)=O(2,1)+O(d), which after adding via semidirect sum the 3d-dimensional Abelian algebra t^(d) of translations, Galilean boosts and constant accelerations completes the construction. We obtain Galilean superconformal algebra G^(d) by firstly defining the semisimple superalgebra H^(d) which supersymmetrizes h^(d), and further by considering the expansion of H^(d) by tensorial and spinorial graded Abelian charges in order to supersymmetrize the Abelian generators of t^(d). For d=3 the supersymmetrization of h^(3…
In this review paper, we treat the topic of fine gradings of Lie algebras. This concept is important not only for investigating the structural properties of the algebras, but, on top of that, the fine gradings are often used as the starting point for studying graded contractions or deformations of the algebras. One basic question tackled in the work is the relation between the terms 'grading' and 'group grading'. Although these terms have originally been claimed to coincide for simple Lie algebras, it was revealed later that the proof of this assertion was incorrect. Therefore, the crucial sta…
