In a coordinate free form are found the (deviation) equations satisfied by the (infinitesimal) deviation vector, relative velocity, relative momentum, relative acceleration and relative energy of two point particles in a differentiable manifold the tangent bundle of which is endowed with a linear transport along paths, a linear connection and, in the last case, also with a metric. Some approximate relations between these quantities are obtained.
The displacement and deviation vectors in spaces (manifolds), the tangent bundle of which is endowed with a transport along paths, are introduced. In case these spaces are equipped with a linear connection, the deviation equations (between arbitrary, geodesic or not, paths) in such spaces are investigated.
A review of the parallel transport (translation) in fibre bundles is presented. The connections between transports along paths and parallel transports in fibre bundles are examined. It is proved that the latter ones are special cases of the former.
Transports along path in fibre bundles are axiomatically introduced. Their general functional form and some their simple properties are investigated. The relationships of the transports along paths and lifting of paths are studied.
We consider a finite quantum system coupled to quasifree thermal reservoirs at different temperatures. Under the assumptions of small coupling and exponential decay of the reservoir correlation function, the large deviation generating function of energy transport into the reservoirs is shown to be analytic on a bounded set. Our method is different from the spectral deformation technique which was employed recently in the study of spin-boson-like models. As a corollary, we derive the Gallavotti-Cohen fluctuation relation for the entropy production and a central limit theorem for energy transpor…
The idea that the quantum space-time of microphysics may be fractal everywhere was intensively investigated recently, and several authors have presented the geodesic equations of different fractal space - times. In the present work we obtain the geodesic and the geodesic deviation equations in fractal space-times by using the Bazanski method. We also extend this approach to obtain the equations of motion for spinning and spinning charged particles in the above-mentioned spaces, in a similar way to their counterparts in Riemannian geometry.
The linear transports along paths in vector bundles introduced in Ref. [1] are applied to the special case of tensor bundles over a given differentiable manifold. Links with the transports along paths generated by derivations of tensor algebras are investigated. A possible generalization of the theory of geodesics is proposed when the parallel transport generated by a linear connection is replaced with an arbitrary linear transport along paths in the tangent bundle.
The (parallel) linear transports along paths in vector bundles are axiomatically described. Their general form and certain properties are found. It is shown that these transports are locally (i.e. along every fixed path) always Euclidean ones in a senses that there exist frames in which their matrices are unit. The investigated transports along paths are described in terms of their local coefficients, as well as in terms of derivations along paths.
Curvature and torsion of linear transports along paths in, respectively, vector bundles and the tangent bundle to a differentiable manifold are defined and certain their properties are derived.
In this paper, we present a novel extension to the classical path coupling method to statistical mechanical models which we refer to as aggregate path coupling. In conjunction with large deviations estimates, we use this aggregate path coupling method to prove rapid mixing of Glauber dynamics for a large class of statistical mechanical models, including models that exhibit discontinuous phase transitions which have traditionally been more difficult to analyze rigorously. The parameter region for rapid mixing for the generalized Curie-Weiss-Potts model is derived as a new application of the agg…
Motivated by the study of rare events for a typical genetic switching model in systems biology, in this paper we aim to establish the general two-scale large deviations for chemical reaction systems. We build a formal approach to explicitly obtain the large deviation rate functionals for the considered two-scale processes based upon the second-quantization path integral technique. We get three important types of large deviation results when the underlying two times scales are in three different regimes. This is realized by singular perturbation analysis to the rate functionals obtained by path…
We consider a stochastic interacting vortex system of $N$ particles, approximating the vorticity formulation of 2-D Navier-Stokes equation on torus. The singular interaction kernel is given by the Biot-Savart law. We only require the initial state to have finite energy, and obtain a sample-path large deviation principle for the empirical measure when the number of vortices goes to infinity. The rate function is characterized by an explicit formula supporting on sample paths with finite energy and finite integral of $L^2$ norms over time. The proof utilizes a symmetrization technique for the re…
The axiomatic approach to parallel transport theory is partially discussed. Bijective correspondences between the sets of connections, (axiomatically defined) parallel transports, and transports along paths satisfying some additional conditions, are constructed. In particular, the equivalence between the concepts "connection" and "(axiomatically defined) parallel transport" is established. Some results which are specific for topological and vector bundles are presented.
The problem for consistency between linear transports along paths and real bundle metrics in real vector bundles is stated. Necessary and/or sufficient conditions, as well as conditions for existence, for such consistency are derived. All metrics (resp. transports) consistent with a given transport (resp. metric) are explicitly obtained. The special case of linear transports, generated by derivations of tensor algebras, of vectors is considered. Analogous problems are investigated in complex vector bundles endowed with Hermitian metrics.
An analog of the classical Doppler effect is investigated in spaces (manifolds) whose tangent bundle is endowed with a transport along paths, which, in particular, can be parallel one. The obtained results are valid irrespectively to the particles mass, i.e. they hold for massless particles (e.g. photons) as well as for massive ones.
The meaning of thermodynamic descriptions is found in large-deviations scaling of the fluctuations probabilities. The primary large-deviations rate function is the entropy, which is the basis for both fluctuation theorems and for characterizing the thermodynamic interactions of systems. Freidlin-Wentzell theory provides a general formulation of large-deviations scaling for non-equilibrium stochastic processes, through a representation in terms of a Hamiltonian dynamical system. A number of related methods now exist to construct the Freidlin-Wentzell Hamiltonian for many kinds of stochastic pro…
Consider a large system of $N$ Brownian motions in $\mathbb{R}^d$ on some fixed time interval $[0,β]$ with symmetrised initial-terminal condition. That is, for any $i$, the terminal location of the $i$-th motion is affixed to the initial point of the $σ(i)$-th motion, where $σ$ is a uniformly distributed random permutation of $1,...,N$. In this paper, we describe the large-N behaviour of the empirical path measure (the mean of the Dirac measures in the $N$ paths) when $ Λ\uparrow\mathbb{R}^d $ and $ N/|Λ|\toρ$. The rate function is given as a variational formula involving a certain entropy fun…
Directed last passage percolation models on the plane, where one studies the weight as well as the geometry of optimizing paths (called polymers) in a field of i.i.d. weights, are paradigm examples of models in the KPZ universality class. In this article, we consider the large deviation regime, i.e., when the polymer has a much smaller (lower tail) or larger (upper tail) weight than typical. Precise asymptotics of large deviation probabilities have been obtained in a handful of the so-called exactly solvable scenarios, including the Exponential (Johansson, '00) and Poissonian (Seppäläinen, '98…
In this mainly survey paper we consider the Lagrangian $ L(x,v) = \frac{1}{2} \, |v|^2 - V(x) $, and a closed form $w$ on the torus $ \mathbb{T}^n $. For the associated Hamiltonian we consider the the Schrodinger operator ${\bf H}_β=\, -\,\frac{1}{2 β^2} \, Δ+V$ where $β$ is large real parameter. Moreover, for the given form $β\, w$ we consider the associated twist operator ${\bf H}_β^w$. We denote by $({\bf H}_β^w)^*$ the corresponding backward operator. We are interested in the positive eigenfunction $ ψ_β$ associated to the the eigenvalue $ E_β$ for the operator ${\bf H}_β^{w} $. We denote …
We develop a differential geometric framework for parallel transport over path spaces and a corresponding discrete theory, an integrated version of the continuum theory, using a category-theoretic framework.
The Whittaker 2d growth model is a triangular continuous Markov diffusion process that appears in many scientific contexts. It has been theoretically intriguing to establish a large deviation principle for this 2d process with a scaling factor. The main challenge is the spatiotemporal interactions and dynamics that may depend on potential sample-path intersections. We develop such a principle with a novel rate function. Our approach is mainly based on Schider's Theorem, contraction principle, and special treatment for intersecting sample paths.
We study a simple transport model driven out of equilibrium by reservoirs at the boundaries, corresponding to the hydrodynamic limit of the symmetric simple exclusion process. We show that a nonlocal transformation of densities and currents maps the large deviations of the model into those of an open, isolated chain satisfying detailed balance, where rare fluctuations are the time reversals of relaxations. We argue that the existence of such a mapping is the immediate reason why it is possible for this model to obtain an explicit solution for the large-deviation function of densities through e…
Analytical (rational) mechanics is the mathematical structure of Newtonian deterministic dynamics developed by D'Alembert, Langrange, Hamilton, Jacobi, and many other luminaries of applied mathematics. Diffusion as a stochastic process of an overdamped individual particle immersed in a fluid, initiated by Einstein, Smoluchowski, Langevin and Wiener, has no momentum since its path is nowhere differentiable. In this exposition, we illustrate how analytical mechanics arises in stochastic dynamics from a randomly perturbed ordinary differential equation $dX_t=b(X_t)dt+εdW_t$ where $W_t$ is a Brown…
