Some symmetries of time-dependent Schrödinger equations for inverse quadratic, linear, and quadratic potentials have been systematically examined by using a method suitable to the problem. Especially, the symmetry group for the case of the linear potential turns out to be a semi-direct product $SL(2,R) x T_2(R)$ of the $SL(2,R)$ with a two-dimensional real translation group $T_2(R)$. Here, the time variable $t$ transforms as $t \to t^\prime = (ct+d)/(at+b)$ for real constants $a, b, c$, and $d$ satisfying $bc - ad =1$ with an accompanying transformation for the space coordinate $x$.
In this paper, we study Schrödinger equations on elliptic curves called generalized Lamé equations. We suggest a method of finding integrable potentials for Schrödinger type equations. We apply this method to the Lamé equations and provide a sequence of integrable potentials for which the eigenvalue problem is solved explicitly.
We consider two problems arising in the study of the Schrödinger-Newton equations. The first is to find their Lie point symmetries. The second, as an application of the first, is to investigate an approximate solution corresponding to widely separated lumps of probability. The lumps are found to move like point particles under a mutual inverse-square law of attraction.
We establish several relationships between the non-relativistic conformal symmetries of Newton-Cartan geometry and the Schrödinger equation. In particular we discuss the algebra $\mathfrak{sch}(d)$ of vector fields conformally-preserving a flat Newton-Cartan spacetime, and we prove that its curved generalisation generates the symmetry group of the covariant Schrödinger equation coupled to a Newtonian potential and generalised Coriolis force. We provide intrinsic Newton-Cartan definitions of Killing tensors and conformal Schrödinger-Killing tensors, and we discuss their respective links to cons…
In this survey the contemporary results concerning supersymmetries in generalized Schrödinger equations are presented. Namely, position dependent mass Schödinger equations are discussed as well as the equations with matrix potentials. An extended number of realistic quantum mechanical problems admitting extended supersymmetries is described, an extended class of matrix potentials is classified.
We determine the Lie point symmetries of the Schrödinger and the Klein Gordon equations in a general Riemannian space. It is shown that these symmetries are related with the homothetic and the conformal algebra of the metric of the space respectively. We consider the kinematic metric defined by the classical Lagrangian and show how the Lie point symmetries of the Schrödinger equation and the Klein Gordon equation are related with the Noether point symmetries of this Lagrangian. The general results are applied to two practical problems a. The classification of all two and three dimensional pote…
We study all the symmetries of the free Schrödinger equation in the non-commutative plane. These symmetry transformations form an infinite-dimensional Weyl algebra that appears naturally from a two-dimensional Heisenberg algebra generated by Galilean boosts and momenta. These infinite high symmetries could be useful for constructing non-relativistic interacting higher spin theories. A finite-dimensional subalgebra is given by the Schrödinger algebra which, besides the Galilei generators, contains also the dilatation and the expansion. We consider the quantization of the symmetry generators in …
Two non-standard quantum deformations of the (1+1) Schrödinger algebra are identified with the symmetry algebras of either a space or time uniform lattice discretization of the Schrödinger equation. For both cases, the deformation parameter of the corresponding Hopf algebra can be interpreted as the step of the lattice. In this context, the introduction of nonlinear maps defining Schrödinger and $sl(2,\R)$ quantum algebras with classical commutation rules turns out to be relevant. The problem of finding a quantum algebra linked to the full space-time discretization is also discussed.
Symmetry group methods are applied to obtain all explicit group-invariant radial solutions to a class of semilinear Schrodinger equations in dimensions $n\neq 1$. Both focusing and defocusing cases of a power nonlinearity are considered, including the special case of the conformal power $p=4/n$ relevant for critical dynamics. The methods involve, firstly, reduction of the semilinear Schrodinger equations to group-invariant complex 2nd order ODEs with respect to an optimal set of one-dimensional point symmetry groups, and secondly, use of inherited symmetries, hidden symmetries, and conditional …
Conditional and Lie symmetries of semi-linear 1D Schrödinger and diffusion equations are studied if the mass (or the diffusion constant) is considered as an additional variable. In this way, dynamical symmetries of semi-linear Schrödinger equations become related to the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of a three-dimensional conformal Lie algebra conf_3. We consider non-hermitian representations and also include a dimensionful coupling constant of the non-linearity. The corresponding representations of the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of conf_3 are classified and the co…
Conditional Lie symmetries of semi-linear 1D Schrödinger and diffusion equations are studied if the mass (or the diffusion constant) is considered as an additional variable. In this way, dynamical symmetries of semi-linear Schrödinger equations become related to the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of a three-dimensional conformal Lie algebra conf_3. The corresponding representations of the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of conf_3 are classified and the complete list of conditionally invariant semi-linear Schrödinger equations is obtained. Applications to the phase-orderi…
Some key features of the symmetries of the Schrödinger equation that are common to a much broader class of dynamical systems (some under construction) are illustrated. I discuss the algebra/superalgebra duality involving first and second-order differential operators. It provides different viewpoints for the spectrum-generating subalgebras. The representation-dependent notion of on-shell symmetry is introduced. The difference in associating the time-derivative symmetry operator with either a root or a Cartan generator of the $sl(2)$ subalgebra is discussed. In application to one-dimensional Lag…
A three-dimensional Riccati differential equation of complex quaternion-valued functions is studied. Many properties similar to those of the ordinary differential Riccati equation such that linearization and Picard theorem are obtained. Lie point symmetries of the quaternionic Riccati equation are calculated as well as the form of the associated three-dimensional potential of the Schrödinger equation. Using symmetry reductions and relations between the three-dimensional Riccati and the Schrödinger equation, examples are given to obtain solutions of both equations.
We perform the complete group classification in the class of cubic Schrödinger equations of the form $iψ_t+ψ_{xx}+ψ^2ψ^*+V(t,x)ψ=0$ where $V$ is an arbitrary complex-valued potential depending on $t$ and $x$. We construct all possible inequivalent potentials for which these equations have non-trivial Lie symmetries using algebraic and compatibility methods simultaneously. Our classification essentially amends earlier works on the subject.
Euler-Darboux-Backlund and Laplace transformations are considered for the one- and two-dimensional Schrodinger operators. Their discrete analogs are constructed and generalized for the multidimensional lattices and two-manifolds with special "black-white" triangulations. Nonstandard generalizations of the connections and curvature are constructed for the simplicial complexes. Exactly solvable 2D Schrodinger operators with nonstandard spectral properties are constructed in the continuous and discrete cases using Laplace chains with different restrictions.
Kinematical invariance groups of the 3d Schrödinger equations with position dependent masses (PDM) and arbitrary potentials are classified. It is shown that there exist 94 classes of such equations defined up to the generic equivalence group, and 70 classes defined up to the equivalence groupoid. The maximally extended kinematical invariance algebras of such equations appears to be eight dimensional. The specific symmetries connected with the presence of the ambiguity parameters are discussed and an extended class of systems which keep their forms for arbitrary or particular changes of these p…
We develop a general technique for finding self-adjoint extensions of a symmetric operator that respect a given set of its symmetries. Problems of this type naturally arise when considering two- and three-dimensional Schrödinger operators with singular potentials. The approach is based on constructing a unitary transformation diagonalizing the symmetries and reducing the initial operator to the direct integral of a suitable family of partial operators. We prove that symmetry preserving self-adjoint extensions of the initial operator are in a one-to-one correspondence with measurable families o…
We show how the Schrödinger equation for the hydrogen atom in two dimensions gives rise to an algebraic family of Harish-Chandra pairs that codifies hidden symmetries. The hidden symmetries vary continuously between $SO(3)$, $SO(2,1)$ and the Euclidean group $O(2)\ltimes \mathbb{R}^2$. We show that solutions of the Schrödinger equation may be organized into an algebraic family of Harish-Chandra modules. Furthermore, we use Jantzen filtration techniques to algebraically recover the spectrum of the Schrödinger operator. This is a first application to physics of the algebraic families of Harish-C…
The classical quantization of a Lienard-type nonlinear oscillator is achieved by a quantization scheme (M.C. Nucci. Theor. Math. Phys., 168:997--1004, 2011) that preserves the Noether point symmetries of the underlying Lagrangian in order to construct the Schrödinger equation. This method straightforwardly yields the correct Schrödinger equation in the momentum space (V. Chithiika Ruby, M. Senthilvelan, and M. Lakshmanan. J. Phys. A: Math. Gen., 45:382002, 2012), and sheds light into the apparently remarkable connection with the linear harmonic oscillator.
With using the algebraic approach Lie symmetries of Schrödinger equations with matrix potentials are classified. Thirty three inequivalent equations of such type together with the related symmetry groups are specified, the admissible equivalence relations are clearly indicated. In particular the Boyer results concerning kinematical invariance groups for arbitrary potentials (C. P. Boyer, Helv. Phys. Acta, {\bf 47}, 450--605 (1974)) are clarified and corrected.
The set of integrable symmetries of the nonstationary Schrödinger equation is shown to admit a natural decomposition into subsets of mutually commuting symmetries. Hierarchies of time evolutions associated with each of these subsets ultimately lead to nonlinear (possibly, operator) equations of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili I type or its higher analogues, thus demonstrating that the linear problem itself constructively determines the associated nonlinear integrable evolution equations and their hierarchies.
The classical quantization of a family of a quadratic Liénard-type equation (Liénard II equation) is achieved by a quantization scheme (M.~C. Nucci. {\em Theor. Math. Phys.}, 168:994--1001, 2011) that preserves the Noether point symmetries of the underlying Lagrangian in order to construct the Schrödinger equation. This method straightforwardly yields the Schrödinger equation as given in (A.~Ghose~Choudhury and Partha Guha. {\em J. Phys. A: Math. Theor.}, 46:165202, 2013).
In this paper we study a mixed problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation globally that have a nonlinear adding, in which the coefficient is a generalized function. Here is proved a global solvability theorem of the considered problem with use of the general solvability theorem of the article [30]. Furthermore here is investigated also the behaviour of the solution of the studied problem.
In this paper, we construct and analyse the symmetries and conservation laws (conserved densities) of a model of a nonlinear Scrodinger equation with PT-symmetric potentials and inhomogeneity.
We study admissible and equivalence point transformations between generalized multidimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equations and classify Lie symmetries of such equations. We begin with a wide superclass of Schrödinger-type equations, which includes all the other classes considered in the paper. Showing that this superclass is not normalized, we partition it into two disjoint normalized subclasses, which are not related by point transformations. Further constraining the arbitrary elements of the superclass, we construct a hierarchy of normalized classes of Schrödinger-type equations. This gi…
We construct a family of Fourier Integral Operators, defined for arbitrary large times, representing a global parametrix for the Schrödinger propagator when the potential is quadratic at infinity. This construction is based on the geometric approach to the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi equation and thus sidesteps the problem of the caustics generated by the classical flow. Moreover, a detailed study of the real phase function allows us to recover a WKB semiclassical approximation which necessarily involves the multivaluedness of the graph of the Hamiltonian flow past the caustics.
Well-posedness and global attractor are established for 2D damped driven nonlinear Schrödinger equation with almost periodic pumping in a bounded region. The key role is played by a novel application of the energy equation.
Using the theory of almost conserved energies and the ``I-method'' developed by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka and Tao, we prove that the initial value problem for a higher order Schrödinger equation is globally well-posed in Sobolev spaces of order $s>1/4$.
We introduce the notion of the geometrically equivalent quantum systems (GEQS) as quantum systems that lead to the same geometric phases for a given complete set of initial state vectors. We give a characterization of the GEQS. These systems have a common dynamical invariant, and their Hamiltonians and evolution operators are related by symmetry transformations of the invariant. If the invariant is $T$-periodic, the corresponding class of GEQS includes a system with a $T$-periodic Hamiltonian. We apply our general results to study the classes of GEQS that include a system with a cranked Hamilt…
We study a new type of symmetry for the hydrogen atom involving algebraic families of groups parametrized by the energy value in the time-independent Schrödinger equation. We construct an algebraic family of Harish-Chandra modules from the solutions of the Schrödinger equation, and we characterize this family. We show that the subspaces of physical states may be obtained from our algebraic family using a Jantzen filtration, and we relate our algebraic methods with spectral theory and scattering theory using the limiting absorption principle
We study arbitrary order symmetry operators for the linear Schrödinger equations with arbitrary number of spatial variables. We deduce determining equations for coefficient functions of such operators and consider in detail some cases when these equations can be explicitly solved. In addition, the complete group classification of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation is presented.
We consider the NLS on Schwarzschild manifold. For radial solutions with sufficiently localized initial data, global existence,L^p estimates and asymptotic completeness of the wave operators is proved
In this paper we first establish global pointwise time-space estimates of the fundamental solution for Schrödinger equations, where the symbol of the spatial operator is a real non-degenerate elliptic polynomial. Then we use such estimates to establish related Lp-Lq estimates on the Schrödinger solution. These estimates extend known results from the literature and are sharp. This result was latetly already generalized to a degenerate case (cf. [9]).
We prove that the Schrödinger equation is approximately controllable in Sobolev spaces $H^s$, $s>0$ generically with respect to the potential. We give two applications of this result. First, in the case of one space dimension, combining our result with a local exact controllability property, we get the global exact controllability of the system in higher Sobolev spaces. Then we prove that the Schrödinger equation with a potential which has a random time-dependent amplitude admits at most one stationary measure on the unit sphere $S$ in $L^2 $.
We consider the Gross--Pitaevskii equation on $\R^4$ and the cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on $\R^3$ with non-vanishing boundary conditions at spatial infinity. By viewing these equations as perturbations to the energy-critical NLS, we prove that they are globally well-posed in their energy spaces. In particular, we prove unconditional uniqueness in the energy spaces for these equations.
We consider the defocusing energy-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation of fourth order $iu_t+Δ^2 u=-|u|^\frac{8}{d-4}u$. We prove that any finite energy solution is global and scatters both forward and backward in time in dimensions $d\geq9$.
In this paper, we study the nonrelativistic quantum mechanics of an electron in a spacetime containing a topological defect. We also consider that the electron is influenced by the Hulthén potential. In particular, we deal with the Schrödinger equation in the presence of a global monopole. We obtain approximate solutions for the problem, determine the scattering phase shift and the $S$-matrix, and analyze bound states.
In this paper, we consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, $$ i\partial_{t}u+Δu= μ|u|^p u, \quad (t,x)\in \mathbb{R}^{d+1}, $$ with $μ=\pm1, p>0$. In this work, we consider the mass-subcritical cases, that is, $p\in (0,\frac4d)$. We prove that under some restrictions on $d,p$, any radial initial data in the critical space $\dot H^{s_c}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ with compact support, implies global well-posedness.
The first-order differential Lévy-Leblond equations (LLE's) are the non-relativistic analogs of the Dirac equation, being square roots of ($1+d$)-dimensional Schrödinger or heat equations. Just like the Dirac equation, the LLE's possess a natural supersymmetry. In previous works it was shown that non supersymmetric PDE's (notably, the Schrödinger equations for free particles or in the presence of a harmonic potential), admit a natural ${\mathbb Z}_2$-graded Lie symmetry. In this paper we show that, for a certain class of supersymmetric PDE's, a natural ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded…
We discuss the role of the symmetries in photonic crystals and classify them according to the Cartan-Altland-Zirnbauer scheme. Of particular importance are complex conjugation C and time-reversal T, but we identify also other significant symmetries. Borrowing the jargon of the classification theory of topological insulators, we show that C is a particle-hole-type symmetry rather than a time-reversal symmetry if one consider the Maxwell operator in the first-order formalism where the dynamical Maxwell equations can be rewritten as a Schrödinger equation; The symmetry which implements physical t…
