We consider symplectic analogues of the fractional Fourier transforms and obtain convenient representations in terms of Bargmann transforms and Wigner distributions. We show that they act as homeomorphisms on Schwartz spaces, the space of square integrable functions, the space of tempered distributions, and on Fourier-invariant Gelfand-Shilov spaces and their corresponding distribution spaces. More generally, we establish their homeomorphism properties on a broad class of spaces defined through (Wigner-)Hermite expansions. In addition, we prove that these transforms preserve norms on Schatten-von Neumann symbol classes associated with the Weyl calculus.
This paper is devoted to the $L^p(\mathbb R)$ theory of the fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) for $1\le p < 2$. In view of the special structure of the FRFT, we study FRFT properties of $L^1$ functions, via the introduction of a suitable chirp operator. However, in the $L^1(\mathbb{R})$ setting, problems of convergence arise even when basic manipulations of functions are performed. We overcome such issues and study the FRFT inversion problem via approximation by suitable means, such as the fractional Gauss and Abel means. We also obtain the regularity of fractional convolution and results on…
In this paper, a Fourier series in fractional dimensional space is introduced for an arbitrarily periodic function $f(t;α)$. We call it fractional Fourier series of the order $α$. Extending the basis functions of the linear space into fractional one, by rotation transformation, we define a real and complex Fourier series and obtain their coefficients. It is also shown that the fractional derivative of a periodic function can be realized through (fractional) Fourier series with modified coefficients.
The Fractional Fourier Transform is a ubiquitous signal processing tool in basic and applied sciences. The Fractional Fourier Transform generalizes every property and application of the Fourier Transform. Despite the practical importance of the discrete fractional Fourier transform, its applications in digital communications have been elusive. The convolution property of the discrete Fourier transform plays a vital role in designing multi-carrier modulation systems. Here we report a closed-form affine discrete fractional Fourier transform and we show the circular convolution property for it. T…
We show that harmonic oscillator propagators and fractional Fourier transforms are essentially the same. We deduce continuity properties and fix time estimates for such operators on modulation spaces, and apply the results to prove Strichartz estimates for the harmonic oscillator propagator when acting on modulation spaces. Especially we extend some results by Balhara, Cordero, Nicola, Rodino and Thangavelu. We also show that general forms of fractional harmonic oscillator propagators are continuous on suitable Pilipovic spaces.
In this paper we give a concrete application of the spectral theory based on the notion of $S$-spectrum to fractional diffusion process. Precisely, we consider the Fourier law for the propagation of the heat in non homogeneous materials, that is the heat flow is given by the vector operator: $$ T=e_1\,a(x)\partial_{x_1} + e_2\,b(x)\partial_{x_2} + e_3\,c(x)\partial_{x_3} $$ where $e_\ell$, $\ell=1,2,3$ are orthogonal unit vectors in $\mathbb{R}^3$, $a$, $b$, $c$ are given real valued functions that depend on the space variables $x=(x_1,x_2,x_3)$, and possibly also on time. Using the $H^\infty$…
Via chirp functions from fractional Fourier transforms, the authors introduce fractional Riesz potentials related to chirp functions, establish their relations with fractional Fourier transforms, fractional Laplace operators related to chirp functions, and fractional Riesz transforms related to chirp functions, and obtain their boundedness on rotation invariant spaces related to chirp functions. Finally, the authors give the numerical image simulation of fractional Riesz potentials related to chirp functions and their applications in image processing. The main novelty of this article is to pro…
As a generalization of the Fourier transform, the fractional Fourier transform was introduced and has been further investigated both in theory and in applications of signal processing. We obtain a sampling theorem on shift-invariant spaces associated with the fractional Fourier transform domain. The resulting sampling theorem extends not only the classical Whittaker-Shannon-Kotelnikov sampling theorem associated with the fractional Fourier transform domain, but also extends the prior sampling theorems on shift-invariant spaces.
In this manuscript we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the $\textnormal{weak}(1,p)$ boundedness, $1< p<\infty,$ of discrete Fourier multipliers (Fourier multipliers on $\mathbb{Z}^n$). Our main goal is to apply the results obtained to discrete fractional integral operators. Discrete versions of the Calderón-Vaillancourt Theorem and the Gohberg Lemma also are proved.
The fractional Fourier transform (FrFT), which is a generalization of the Fourier transform, has become the focus of many research papers in recent years because of its applications in electrical engineering and optics. In this paper, we introduce the notion of fractional biorthogonal wavelets on $\mathbb{R}$ and obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the translates of a single function to form the fractional Riesz bases for their closed linear span. We also provide a complete characterization for the fractional biorthogonality of the translates of fractional scaling functions of t…
Using the spectral theory on the $S$-spectrum it is possible to define the fractional powers of a large class of vector operators. This possibility leads to new fractional diffusion and evolution problems that are of particular interest for nonhomogeneous materials where the Fourier law is not simply the negative gradient operator but it is a nonconstant coefficients differential operator of the form $$ T=\sum_{\ell=1}^3e_\ell a_\ell(x)\partial_{x_\ell}, \ \ \ x=(x_1,x_2,x_3)\in \barΩ, $$ where, $Ω$ can be either a bounded or an unbounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^3$ whose boundary $\partialΩ$ is …
The fractional Hilbert transform was introduced by Zayed [30, Zayed, 1998] and has been widely used in signal processing. In view of is connection with the fractional Fourier transform, Chen, the first, second and fourth authors of this paper in [6, Chen et al., 2021] studied the fractional Hilbert transform and other fractional multiplier operators on the real line. The present paper is concerned with a natural extension of the fractional Hilbert transform to higher dimensions: this extension is the fractional Riesz transform which is defined by multiplication which a suitable chirp function …
A sharper uncertainty inequality which exhibits a lower bound larger than that in the classical N-dimensional Heisenberg's uncertainty principle is obtained, and extended from N-dimensional Fourier transform domain to two N-dimensional fractional Fourier transform domains. The conditions that reach the equality relation of the uncertainty inequalities are deduced. Example and simulation are performed to illustrate that the newly derived uncertainty principles are truly sharper than the existing ones in the literature. The new proposals' applications in time-frequency and optical system analysi…
A class of integral transforms, on the planar Gaussian Hilbert space with range in the weighted Bergman space on the bi-disk, is defined as the dual transforms of the 2d fractional Fourier transform associated with the Mehler function for Itô--Hermite polynomials. Some spectral properties of these transforms are investigated. Namely, we study their boundedness and identify their null spaces as well as their ranges. Such identification depends on the zeros set of Itô--Hermite polynomials. Moreover, the explicit expressions of their singular values are given and compactness and membership in p-S…
There is a canonical unitary transformation from $L^2(\R)$ onto the Fock space $F^2$, called the Bargmann transform. We study the action of the Bargmann transform on several classical integral operators on $L^2(\R)$, including the fractional Fourier transform, the fractional Hilbert transform, and the wavelet transform.
We prove that, regardless of the choice of the angles $θ_1,θ_2,θ_3$, three fractional Fourier transforms $F_{θ_1}$, $F_{θ_2}$ and $F_{θ_3}$ do not solve the phase retrieval problem. That is, there do not exist three angles $θ_1$, $θ_2$, $θ_3$ such that any signal $ψ\in L^2(R)$ could be determined up to a constant phase by knowing only the three intensities $|F_{θ_1}ψ|^2$, $|F_{θ_2}ψ|^2$ and $|F_{θ_3}ψ|^2$. This provides a negative argument against a recent speculation by P. Jaming, who stated that three suitably chosen fractional Fourier transforms are good candidates for phase retrieval in in…
