We study the outcome of adaptive learning of a large number of players engaging in sets of two-strategy two-player games. We are interested in typical games, and generate the payoff matrices at random at the beginning. The payoff matrices then remain fixed during the learning process. This provides a game theoretic foundation for the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (SK) game, recently introduced by Garnier-Brun, Benzaquen and Bouchaud. The original model by these authors is a special case, with no bias towards any strategy. We here determine stability of learning for SK games with general random bias, and find that the nature of the stable state is affected by random fields. We also introduce a grand-canonical version of the SK game, in which players can choose to abstain. We determine the stability of learning for this game. Our analysis confirms that complex situations involving many players are frequently unlearnable, even if each player only chooses between two different actions. The rate with which players lose memory of past payoffs and the competitiveness of the game emerge as key parameters determining whether learning converges to a unique fixed point, whether there are many fixed points, or if the dynamics remains persistently volatile.
In this paper we study the equilibrium statistical mechanical as well as the dynamical properties of a Sherrington and Kirkpatrick model in a multi-bath setting introduced in [4]. We show that the free energy per particle in the thermodynamical limit obeys a variational principle of Parisi type. The relation between the resulting order parameters is discussed.
We study finite-size corrections to the free energy of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick spin glass in the low temperature phase. We investigate the role of longitudinal fluctuations in these corrections, neglecting the transverse contribution. In particular, we are interested in the exponent $α$ defined by the relation $f-f_\infty\sim N^{-α}$. We perform both an analytical and numerical estimate of the analytical result for $α$. From both the approaches we get the result: $α=0.8$.
We study the phase transition of the free energy in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick mean-field spin glass model with centered Gaussian external field. We show that the corresponding Almeida-Thouless line is the correct transition curve that distinguishes between the replica symmetric and replica symmetry breaking solutions in the Parisi formula.
We present a large-scale simulation of the ground state interface properties of the diluted Sherrington-Kirkpatrick spin glass of Gaussian disorder for a broad range of the bond occupation probability $p$ using the strong disorder renormalization group and the population annealing Monte Carlo methods. We find that the interface is space-filling independent of $p$, i.e., the fractal dimension $d_s=1$. The stiffness exponent $θ$ is likely also independent of $p$, despite that the energy finite-size correction exponent $ω$ varies with $p$ as recently found. The energy finite-size scaling is also …
In this paper we study the bipartite version of Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model. We prove that the free energy density is given by an analogue of the Parisi formula, that contains both the usual overlap and an additional new type of overlap. Following Panchenko, we prove the upper bound of the formula by Guerra's replica symmetry breaking interpolation, then the matching lower bound by Ghirlanda-Guerra identities and the Aizenman-Sims-Starr scheme. Based on this result we study the stability of the replica symmetric solution. A new phase exhibiting partial replica symmetry breaking is observed, …
We present an ansatz for the ground states of the Quantum Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model, a paradigmatic model for quantum spin glasses. Our ansatz, based on the concept of generalized coherent states, very well captures the fundamental aspects of the model, including the ground state energy and the position of the spin glass phase transition. It further enables us to study some previously unexplored features, such as the non-vanishing longitudinal field regime and the entanglement structure of the ground states. We find that the ground state entanglement can be captured by a simple ensemble of…
The existence theorem for replica-symmetry breaking (RSB) in the transverse field Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (SK) model is extended to the model with a general random exchange interactions. The relation between the expectation value of the exchange interaction energy and the Duhamel correlation function of spin operators can be obtained by an approximate integration by parts for general random interactions. In addition to the Falk-Bruch inequality, these explicit evaluations enable us to prove that the variance of overlap between two replica spin operators does not vanish under sufficiently weak …
We study in detail the quantum Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (SK) model, i.e. the infinite-range Ising spin glass in a transverse field, by solving numerically the effective one-dimensional model that the quantum SK model can be mapped to in the thermodynamic limit. We find that the replica symmetric (RS) solution is unstable down to zero temperature, in contrast to some previous claims, and so there is not only a line of transitions in the (longitudinal) field-temperature plane (the de Almeida-Thouless, AT, line) where replica symmetry is broken, but also a quantum de Almeida-Thouless (QuAT) line i…
