We introduce the concept of relational depth of a finite semigroup $S$ whose $J$-classes form a chain. It captures how far down in the ideal structure one is obliged to go in order to define the semigroup by generators and defining relations. We determine the exact value for the relational depth of an arbitrary ideal in the full transformation monoid, symmetric inverse monoid and in the partial transformation monoid.
Following G.Szasz [2] a subsemigroup I of semigroup S is called an interior ideal if SIS \subset I. In this paper we explore the classes of regular semigroup and its different subclasses by their interior ideals. Furthermore, we introduce the strongly prime, prime, semiprime, strongly irreducible, and irreducible interior ideals of semigroups and also characterize those semigroups for which each interior ideal is strongly prime. Some important interplay between the classes of all interior ideals and other ideals are given here. In addition to this, we present different characterizations of sem…
In this paper, we have introduced the notion of (1,2)-ideal in an LA-semigroup and shown that (1,2)-ideal and two-sided ideal coincide in an intra-regular LA-semigroup. We have characterized an intra-regular LA-semigroup by using the properties of left and right ideals. Some natural examples of LA-semigroups have been given. Further we have investigated some useful conditions for an LA-semigroup to become an intra-regular LA-semigroup and given the counter examples to illustrate the converse inclusions. All the ideals (left, right, two-sided, interior, quasi, bi- generalized bi- and (1,2)) of …
In this paper we characterize left(right) ideals, bi-ideals and quasi-ideals of an ordered semigroup by an index $m$ and give some important interplays between these ideals. The concept of m-regularity of an ordered semigroups has been introduced. Moreover m-regular ordered semigroups are characterized by their m-quasi-ideals and the fact that for any m-regular ordered semigroups $A$, the set $Q_{A}$ of all m-quasi-ideals of $A$, with multiplication defined by: $Q_{1}\circ Q_{2}=(Q_{1}Q_{2}]$, for all $Q_{1},Q_{2}\in Q_{A}$, is a m-regular semigroup is obtained here.
The purpose of this note is to introduce primitive ideals of noncommutative semigroups and study some topological aspects of the corresponding structure spaces.
We introduce the depth parameters of a finite semigroup, which measure how hard it is to produce an element in the minimum ideal when we consider generating sets satisfying some minimality conditions. We estimate such parameters for some families of finite semigroups, and we obtain an upper bound for wreath products and direct products of two finite (transformation) monoids. Keywords: semigroup, generating set, minimum ideal, A-depth of a semigroup
In this paper, the notion of bipolar-valued fuzzy LA-subsemigroups is introduced and also some properties of bipolar-valued fuzzy left (right, bi-, interior) ideals of LA-semigroups has been discussed.
A left almost semigroup (LA-semigroup) or an Abel-Grassmann's groupoid (AG-groupoid) is investigated in several papers. In this paper we have discussed ideals in LA-semigroups. Specifically, we have shown that every ideal in an LA-semigroup S with left identity e is prime if and only if it is idempotent and the set of ideals of S is totally ordered under inclusion. We have shown that an ideal of S is prime if and only if it is semiprime and strongly irreducible. We have proved also that every ideal in a regular LA-semigroup S is prime if and only if the set of ideals of S is totally ordered un…
We call a semigroup $S$ right noetherian if it satisfies the ascending chain condition on right ideals, and we say that $S$ satisfies ACCPR if it satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal right ideals. We investigate the behavior of these two conditions with respect to ideals and ideal extensions, with a particular focus on minimal and 0-minimal one-sided ideals. In particular, we show that the property of satisfying ACCPR is inherited by right and left ideals. On the other hand, we exhibit an example of a right noetherian semigroup with a minimal ideal that is not right noetherian.
We provide a new and much simpler structure for quasi-ideal adequate transversals of abundant semigroups in terms of spined products, which is similar in nature to that given by Saito for weakly multiplicative inverse transversals of regular semigroups. As a consequence we deduce a similar result for multiplicative transversals of abundant semigroups and also consider the case when the semigroups are in fact regular and provide some new structure theorems for inverse transversals.
The $\mathcal{R}$-height of a semigroup $S$ is the height of the poset of $\mathcal{R}$-classes of $S,$ i.e. the supremum of the lengths of chains of $\mathcal{R}$-classes. Given a semigroup $S$ with finite $\mathcal{R}$-height, we establish bounds on the $\mathcal{R}$-height of bi-ideals, one-sided ideals and two-sided ideals; in particular, these substructures inherit the property of having finite $\mathcal{R}$-height. We then investigate whether these bounds can be attained.
Given a $Γ$-semigroup $S$, we construct a semigroup $Σ$ in such a way that one sided ideals and quasi-ideals of $S$ can be regarded as one sided ideals and quasi-ideals respectively of $Σ$. This correspondence and other properties of $Σ$, allow us to obtain several results for $S$ without having the need to work directly with it, but solely employing well known results of semigroup theory. For example, we obtain the Green's theorem for $Γ$-semigroups found in \cite{PT}, as a corollary of the usual Green's theorem in semigroups. Also we prove that, if $S$ is a $Γ$-semigroup and $γ_{0} \in Γ$ su…
In this paper, the concepts of set-valued anti-homomorphism and strong set-valued anti-homomorphism of $Γ$-semigroup are introduced. The notions of generalized lower and upper approximation operators, constructed by means of set-valued mapping, which is a generalization of the notion of lower and upper approximation of $Γ$-semigroup, are provided. Some significant properties of lower and upper approximations of $Γ$-semigroup under (strong)set-valued anti-homomorphisms are discussed. We provide examples for the properties of lower and upper approximations of $Γ$-semigroup under (strong)set-valu…
It is proved that, given a (von Neumann) regular semigroup with finitely many left and right ideals, if every maximal subgroup is presentable by a finite complete rewriting system, then so is the semigroup. To achieve this, the following two results are proved: the property of being defined by a finite complete rewriting system is preserved when taking an ideal extension by a semigroup defined by a finite complete rewriting system; a completely 0-simple semigroup with finitely many left and right ideals admits a presentation by a finite complete rewriting system provided all of its maximal sub…
In this article, we concurrently explore the class of m-bi-ideals as well as the class of m- interior ideals in an ordered semigroup. We call these class of ideals as m-bi-interior ideals. Here, m-simple, m-regular ordered semigroups and their various subclasses get characterized in diverse manners as per their m-bi-interior ideals.
A semigroup $S$ is said to be right pseudo-finite if the universal right congruence can be generated by a finite set $U\subseteq S\times S$, and there is a bound on the length of derivations for an arbitrary pair $(s,t)\in S\times S$ as a consequence of those in $U$. This article explores the existence and nature of a minimal ideal in a right pseudo-finite semigroup. Continuing the theme started in an earlier work by Dandan et al., we show that in several natural classes of monoids, right pseudo-finiteness implies the existence of a completely simple minimal ideal. This is the case for orthodo…
In this paper we introduce a new notion by the help of the idealizer. This new notion is the separator of a subset of a semigroup. We investigate the properties of the separator in an arbitrary semigroup and characterize the unitary subsemigroups and the prime ideals by the help of their separator. The last section of this paper treats the separator of a free subsemigroup of a free semigroup.
Cross-connection theory propounded by K. S. S. Nambooripad describes the ideal structure of a regular semigroup using the categories of principal left (right) ideals. A variant $\mathscr{T}_X^θ$ of the full transformation semigroup $(\mathscr{T}_X,\cdot)$ for an arbitrary $θ\in \mathscr{T}_X$ is the semigroup $\mathscr{T}_X^θ= (\mathscr{T}_X,\ast)$ with the binary operation $α\ast β= α\cdotθ\cdotβ$ where $α, β\in \mathscr{T}_X$. In this article, we describe the ideal structure of the regular part $Reg(\mathscr{T}_X^θ)$ of the variant of the full transformation semigroup using cross-connections…
Ideal series of semigroups play an important role in the examination of semigroups which have proper two-sided ideals. But the corresponding theorems cannot be used when left simple (or right simple or simple) semigroups are considered. So it is a natural idea that we try to use the group theoretical methods (instead of the ring theoretical ones) for the examination of these semigroups. The purpose of this paper is to find a suitable type of subsemigroups of left simple semigroups which makes possible for us to generalize some notions (the notion of the normal series and the composition series…
We give a thorough structural analysis of the principal one-sided ideals of arbitrary semigroups, and then apply this to full transformation semigroups and symmetric inverse monoids. One-sided ideals of these semigroups naturally occur as semigroups of transformations with restricted range or kernel.
Using Rees index, the subsemigroup growth of free semigroups is investigated. Lower and upper bounds for the sequence are given and it is shown to have superexponential growth of strict type $n^n$ for finite free rank greater than 1. It is also shown that free semigroups have the fastest subsemigroup growth of all finitely generated semigroups. Ideal growth is shown to be exponential with strict type $2^n$ and congruence growth is shown to be at least exponential. In addition we consider the case when the index is fixed and rank increasing, proving that for subsemigroups and ideals this sequen…
Cross-connection is a construction of regular semigroups using certain categories called normal categories which are abstractions of the partially ordered sets of principal left (right) ideals of a semigroup. We describe the cross-connections in the semigroup $Sing(X)$ of all non-invertible transformations on a set $X$. The categories involved are characterized as the powerset category $\mathscr{P}(X)$ and the category of partitions $Π(X)$. We describe these categories and show how a permutation on $X$ gives rise to a cross-connection. Further we prove that every cross-connection between them …
The set D_n of all difunctional relations on an n element set is an inverse semigroup under a variation of the usual composition operation. We solve an open problem of Kudryavtseva and Maltcev (2011), which asks: What is the rank (smallest size of a generating set) of D_n? Specifically, we show that the rank of D_n is B(n)+n, where B(n) is the nth Bell number. We also give the rank of an arbitrary ideal of D_n. Although D_n bears many similarities with families such as the full transformation semigroups and symmetric inverse semigroups (all contain the symmetric group and have a chain of J-cla…
This paper presents a unified framework for determining the congruences on a number of monoids and categories of transformations, diagrams, matrices and braids, and on all their ideals. The key theoretical advances present an iterative process of stacking certain normal subgroup lattices on top of each other to successively build congruence lattices of a chain of ideals. This is applied to several specific categories of: transformations; order/orientation preserving/reversing transformations; partitions; planar/annular partitions; Brauer, Temperley--Lieb and Jones partitions; linear and projec…
We study the semigroup extension $\mathscr{I}_λ^n(S)$ of a semigroup $S$ by symmetric inverse semigroups of a bounded finite rank. We describe idempotents and regular elements of the semigroups $\mathscr{I}_λ^n(S)$ and $\overline{\mathscr{I}_λ^n}(S)$ show that the semigroup $\mathscr{I}_λ^n(S)$ ($\overline{\mathscr{I}_λ^n}(S)$) is regular, orthodox, inverse or stable if and only if so is $S$. Green's relations are described on the semigroup $\mathscr{I}_λ^n(S)$ for an arbitrary monoid $S$. We introduce the conception of a semigroup with strongly tight ideal series, and proved that for any infi…
In this paper we show that if $I$ is an ideal of a commutative semigroup $C$ such that the separator $SepI$ of $I$ is not empty then the factor semigroup $S=C/P_I$ ($P_I$ is the principal congruence on $C$ defined by $I$) satisfies Condition $(*)$: $S$ is a commutative monoid with a zero; The annihilator $A(s)$ of every non identity element $s$ of $S$ contains a non zero element of $S$; $A(s)=A(t)$ implies $s=t$ for every $s, t\in S$. Conversely, if $α$ is a congruence on a commutative semigroup $C$ such that the factor semigroup $S=C/α$ satisfies Condition $(*)$ then there is an ideal $I$ of …
We introduce the notion of semigroup with a tight ideal series and investigate their closures in semitopological semigroups, particularly inverse semigroups with continuous inversion. As a corollary we show that the symmetric inverse semigroup of finite transformations $\mathscr{I}_λ^n$ of the rank $\leqslant n$ is algebraically closed in the class of (semi)topological inverse semigroups with continuous inversion. We also derive related results about the nonexistence of (partial) compactifications of classes of semigroups that we consider.
Given a group $X$ we study the algebraic structure of the compact right-topological semigroup $λ(X)$ consisting of maximal linked systems on $X$. This semigroup contains the semigroup $β(X)$ of ultrafilters as a closed subsemigroup. We construct a faithful representation of the semigroup $λ(X)$ in the semigroup of all self-maps of the power-set of $X$ and using this representation describe the structure of minimal ideal and minimal left ideals of $λ(X)$ for each twinic group $X$. The class of twinic groups includes all amenable groups and all groups with periodic commutators but does not inclu…
