We prove two "Singularity removal rigidity theorems" for minimal hypersurfaces with isolated singularities in manifolds of nonnegative scalar curvature (Theorems \ref{thm: rigidity for minimal surface} and \ref{thm: georch free of singularity}). In particular, we observe a new phenomenon that the extremal scalar curvature condition forces smoothness, which reveals a kind of positive effect of minimal hypersurface singularities in scalar curvature geometry.
As an application, we obtain a direct proof of the positive mass theorem (PMT) for asymptotically flat $8$-manifolds with arbitrary ends (Theorem \ref{thm: pmt8dim}), without using N. Smale's generic regularity theorem. A key ingredient is a new spectral version of PMT for AF manifolds with arbitrary ends, whose proof relies on PMT for asymptotically locally flat (ALF) manifolds with $\mathbf{S}^1$-symmetry.
Let $M$ be an open Riemannian $n$-manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We prove that if the first Betti number of $M$ equals $n-1$, then $M$ is flat.
In this short note, by using a general three circle theorem, we show the rigidity of the sharp Bezout estimate first found by Gang Liu on nonnegatively curved Riemann surface.
In this paper, we are going to show some rigidity results for complete open Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature. Without using the famous Cheeger-Gromoll splitting theorem we give a new proof to a rigidity result for complete manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature admitting a proper smooth map to $T^{n-1}\times \mathbf R$ with nonzero degree. Here we introduce a trick to obtain the compactness of limit hypersurface from locally graphical convergence. Based on the same idea we also establish an optimal $2$-systole inequality for several classes of complete Riemannian man…
We show that one-dimensional circle is the only case for closed smooth metric measure spaces with nonnegative Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature whose spectrum of the weighted Laplacian has an optimal positive upper bound. This result extends the work of Hang-Wang in the manifold case (Int. Math. Res. Not. 18 (2007), Art. ID rnm064, 9pp).
In this paper we generalize the neck-stability theorem of Kleiner-Lott to a special class of four-dimensional nonnegatively curved Type I $κ$-solutions, namely, those whose asymptotic shrinkers are the standard cylinder $\mathbb{S}^3\times\mathbb{R}$. We use this stability result to prove a rigidity theorem: if a four-dimensional Type I $κ$-solution with nonnegative curvature operator has the standard cylinder $\mathbb{S}^3\times\mathbb{R}$ as its asymptotic shrinker, then it is exactly the cylinder with its standard shrinking metric.
We prove that any properly oriented $C^{2,1}$ isometric immersion of a positively curved Riemannian surface M into Euclidean 3-space is uniquely determined, up to a rigid motion, by its values on any curve segment in M. A generalization of this result to nonnegatively curved surfaces is presented as well under suitable conditions on their parabolic points. Thus we obtain a local version of Cohn-Vossen's rigidity theorem for convex surfaces subject to a Dirichlet condition. The proof employs in part Hormander's unique continuation principle for elliptic PDEs. Our approach also yields a short pr…
In this note, we consider the isoperimetric inequality on an asymptotically flat manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature, and improve it by using Hawking mass. We also obtain a rigidity result when equality holds for the classical isoperimetric inequality on an asymptotically flat manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature.
In this paper we prove a rigidity result for the equality case of the Penrose inequality on $3$-dimensional asymptotically flat manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature and corners. Our result also has deep connections with the equality cases of Theorem 1 in \cite{Miao2} and Theorem 1.1 in \cite{LM}.
It is well-know that Hawking mass is nonnegative for a stable constant mean curvature ($CMC$) sphere in three manifold of nonnegative scalar curvature. R. Bartnik proposed the rigidity problem of Hawking mass of stable $CMC$ spheres. In this paper, we show partial rigidity results of Hawking mass for stable $CMC$ spheres in asymptotic flat ($AF$) manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature. If the Hawking mass of a nearly round stable $CMC$ surface vanishes, then the surface must be standard sphere in $\mathbb{R}^3 $ and the interior of the surface is flat. The similar results also hold for as…
In this article, we prove Talenti's comparison theorem for Poisson equation on complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Furthermore, we obtain the Faber-Krahn inequality for the first eigenvalue of Dirichlet Laplacian, $L^1$- and $L^\infty$-moment spectrum, especially Saint-Venant theorem for torsional rigidity and a reverse Hölder inequality for eigenfunctions of Dirichlet Laplacian.
We prove the following comparison theorem for metrics with nonnegative scalar curvature, also known as the dihedral rigidity conjecture by Gromov: for $n\le 7$, if an $n$-dimensional prism has nonnegative scalar curvature and weakly mean convex faces, then its dihedral angle cannot be everywhere not larger than its Euclidean model, unless it is isometric to an Euclidean prism. The proof relies on constructing certain free boundary minimal hypersurface in a Riemannian polyhedron, and extending a dimension descent idea of Schoen-Yau. Our result is a localization of the positive mass theorem.
Based on properties of n-subharmonic functions we show that a complete, noncompact, properly embedded hypersurface with nonnegative Ricci curvature in hyperbolic space has an asymptotic boundary at infinity of at most two points. Moreover, the presence of two points in the asymptotic boundary is a rigidity condition that forces the hypersurface to be an equidistant hypersurface about a geodesic line in hyperbolic space. This gives an affirmative answer to the question raised by Alexander and Currier in 1990.

Given an Einstein structure with positive scalar curvature on a four-dimensional Riemannian manifolds, that is $Ric=λg$ for some positive constant $λ$. For convenience, the Ricci curvature is always normalized to $Ric=1$. A basic problem is to classify four-dimensional Einstein manifolds with positive or nonnegative curvature and $Ric=1$. In this paper, we firstly show that if the sectional curvature satisfies $K\le M_1= \frac{\sqrt{3}}2\approx 0.866025$, then the sectional curvature will be nonnegative. Next, we prove a family of rigidity theorems of Einstein four-manifolds with nonnegative s…
In this paper we prove classification results for solutions to subcritical and critical semilinear elliptic equations with a nonnegative potential on noncompact manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We show in the subcritical case that all nonnegative solutions vanish identically. Moreover, under some natural assumptions, in the critical case we prove a strong rigidity result, namely we classify all nontrivial solutions showing that they exist only if the potential is constant and the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space.
In this paper we generalize the main result of [4] for manifolds that are not necessarily Einstein. In fact, we obtain an upper bound for the volume of a locally volume-minimizing closed hypersurface $Σ$ of a Riemannian 5-manifold $M$ with scalar curvature bounded from below by a positive constant in terms of the total traceless Ricci curvature of $Σ$. Furthermore, if $Σ$ saturates the respective upper bound and $M$ has nonnegative Ricci curvature, then $Σ$ is isometric to $\mathbb{S}^4$ up to scaling and $M$ splits in a neighborhood of $Σ$. Also, we obtain a rigidity result for the Riemannian…
In this article, we investigate deformation problems of $Q$-curvature on closed Riemannian manifolds. One of the most crucial notions we use is the $Q$-singular space, which was introduced by Chang-Gursky-Yang during 1990's. Inspired by the early work of Fischer-Marsden, we derived several results about geometry related to $Q$-curvature. It includes classifications for nonnegative Einstein $Q$-singular spaces, linearized stability of non-$Q$-singular spaces and a local rigidity result for flat manifolds with nonnegative $Q$-curvature. As for global results, we showed that any smooth function c…
We study closed orientable surfaces satisfying the spectral condition $λ_1(-Δ+βK)\geqλ\geq0$, where $β$ is a positive constant and $K$ is the Gauss curvature. This condition naturally arises for stable minimal surfaces in 3-manifolds with positive scalar curvature. We show isoperimetric inequalities, area growth theorems and diameter bounds for such surfaces. The validity of these inequalities are subject to certain bounds for $β$. Associated to a positive super-solution $Δφ\leqβKφ$, the conformal metric $φ^{2/β}g$ has pointwise nonnegative curvature. Utilizing the geometry of the new metric, …
