V658 Car (HD 92406) is a newborn resp. rejuvenated shell star binary system at the age of only 1 Myr after the end of mass transfer. In this renewed study the peculiarities of the Be star are at first by-passed by the determination of the properties of the contracting hot subdwarf precursor, but finally resolved by combining photometric data and radial velocity results with existing stellar models. For the effective temperatures, radii and masses we get about 12900 K, 1.92/2.20 Rsun and 4.49 Msun for the Be star, and about 18400 K, 1.87 Rsun and 0.56 Msun for its companion star. The Be star has a rotational velocity of 336 km/s and is surrounded and dimmed in our view by a large and luminous equatorial decretion disk having a radius of ~ 42 Rsun. According to stellar models these results fit to a surprisingly low metallicity Z of 0.003 and a Teff ~ 5400 K higher than observational expectations for the Be star, which hence should belong to the chemically peculiar stars, in spite of its rapid rotation.
Eclipsing binary systems are unique stellar objects to examine and understand the stellar evolution and the formation. Thanks to these systems, the fundamental stellar parameters (mass, radius) can be obtained very precisely. The existence of metallic-line (Am) stars in binaries is noticeably common. However, the known number of Am stars in eclipsing binaries is less. The Am stars in eclipsing binaries are extremely useful to deeply investigate the properties of Am stars, as the eclipsing binaries are the only tool to directly derive the fundamental stellar parameters. Additionally, the atmosp…
The late B-type star V772 Cas (HD 10260) was previously suspected to be a rare example of a magnetic chemically peculiar star in an eclipsing binary system. Photometric observations of this star obtained by the TESS satellite show clear eclipses with a period of 5.0137 d accompanied by a significant out-of-eclipse variation with the same period. High-resolution spectroscopy reveals V772 Cas to be an SB1 system, with the primary component rotating about a factor two slower than the orbital period and showing chemical peculiarities typical of non-magnetic HgMn chemically peculiar stars. This is …
We present the discovery of a unique object, a chemically peculiar Ap-type star showing $δ$ Scuti pulsations which is bound in an eclipsing binary system with an orbital period shorter than 3 days. HD 99458 is, therefore, a complex astrophysical laboratory opening doors for studying various, often contradictory, physical phenomena at the same time. It is the first Ap star ever discovered in an eclipsing binary. The orbital period of 2.722 days is the second shortest among all known chemically peculiar (CP2) binary stars. Pulsations of $δ$ Scuti type are also extremely rare among CP2 stars and …
Eclipsing binary stars are rare and extremely valuable astrophysical laboratories that make possible precise determination of fundamental stellar parameters. Investigation of early-type chemically peculiar stars in eclipsing binaries provides important information for understanding the origin and evolutionary context of their anomalous surface chemistry. In this study we discuss observations of eclipse variability in six mercury-manganese (HgMn) stars monitored by the TESS satellite. These discoveries double the number of known eclipsing HgMn stars and yield several interesting objects requiri…
The magnetic Ap or CP2 stars are natural atomic and magnetic laboratories and ideal testing grounds for the evaluation of model atmospheres. CP2 stars exhibiting photometric variability are traditionally referred to as alpha2 Canum Venaticorum (ACV) variables. Strictly periodic changes are observed in the spectra and brightness of these stars, which allow the derivation of rotational periods. Related to this group of objects are the He-weak (CP4) and He-rich stars, some of which are also known to undergo brightness changes due to rotational modulation. Increasing the sample size of known rotat…
Context: Few exoplanets around hot stars with radiative envelopes have been discovered, although new observations from the TESS mission are improving this. Stars with radiative envelopes have little mixing at their surface, and thus their surface abundances provide a sensitive test case for a variety of processes including potentially star-planet interactions. Atomic diffusion is particularly important in these envelopes, producing chemically peculiar objects such as Am and HgMn stars. Aims: An exoplanet candidate around the B6 star HD 235349 was identified by TESS. Here we determine the natur…
Eclipsing systems are essential objects for understanding the properties of stars and stellar systems. Eclipsing systems with pulsating components are furthermore advantageous because they provide accurate constraints on the component properties, as well as a complementary method for pulsation mode determination, crucial for precise asteroseismology. The outcome of space missions aiming at delivering high-accuracy light curves for many thousands of stars in search of planetary systems has also generated new insights in the field of variable stars and revived the interest of binary systems in g…
The pulsating eclipsing binaries are remarkable systems that provide an opportunity to probe the stellar interior and to determine the fundamental stellar parameters precisely. Especially the detached eclipsing binary systems with (a) pulsating component(s) are significant objects to understand the nature of the oscillations since the binary effects in these systems are negligible. Recent studies based on space data have shown that the pulsation mechanisms of some oscillating stars are not completely understood. Hence, comprehensive studies of a number of pulsating stars within detached eclips…
Chemically peculiar stars in eclipsing binary systems are rare objects that allow the derivation of fundamental stellar parameters and important information on the evolutionary status and the origin of the observed chemical peculiarities. Here we present an investigation of the known eclipsing binary system BD+09 1467 = V680 Mon. Using spectra from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) and own observations, we identify the primary component of the system as a mercury-manganese (HgMn/CP3) star (spectral type kB9 hB8 HeB9 V HgMn). Furthermore, photometric time se…
AR Aur is the only eclipsing binary known to contain a HgMn star, making it an ideal case for a detailed study of the HgMn phenomenon. HgMn stars are a poorly understood class of chemically peculiar stars, which have traditionally been thought not to possess significant magnetic fields. However, the recent discovery of line profile variability in some HgMn stars, apparently attributable to surface abundance patches, has brought this belief into question. In this paper we investigate the chemical abundances, line profile variability, and magnetic field of the primary and secondary of the AR Aur…
Grids of stellar evolution are required in many fields of astronomy/astrophysics, such as planet hosting stars, binaries, clusters, chemically peculiar stars, etc. In this study, a grid of stellar evolution models with updated ingredients and {recently determined solar abundaces} is presented. The solar values for the initial abundances of hydrogen, heavy elements and mixing-length parameter are 0.0172, 0.7024 and 1.98, respectively. The mass step is small enough (0.01 M$_\odot$) that interpolation for a given star mass is not required. The range of stellar mass is 0.74 to 10.00 M$_\odot$. We …
Early-type magnetic stars are rarely found in close binary systems. No such objects were known in eclipsing binaries prior to this study. Here we investigated the eclipsing, spectroscopic double-lined binary HD66051, which exhibits out-of-eclipse photometric variations suggestive of surface brightness inhomogeneities typical of early-type magnetic stars. Using a new set of high-resolution spectropolarimetric observations, we discovered a weak magnetic field on the primary and found intrinsic, element-dependent variability in its spectral lines. The magnetic field structure of the primary is do…
The (magnetic) chemically peculiar (CP) stars of the upper main sequence are well-suited laboratories for investigating the influence of magnetic fields on the stellar surface because they produce abundance inhomogeneities (spots), which results in photometric variability that is explained in terms of the oblique rotator model. CP stars exhibiting this phenomenon are normally classified as alpha2 Canum Venaticorum (ACV) variables. It is important to increase the sample of known rotational periods among CP stars by discovering new ACV variables. The ASAS-3 data were cross-correlated with the Ca…
We present phase-resolved spectroscopy and extensive survey photometry of the detached eclipsing binary system XY Cet, which is composed of two metallic-lined stars. We measure their masses to be 1.773 +/- 0.016 and 1.615 +/- 0.014 Msun and their radii to be 1.873 +/- 0.035 and 1.773 +/- 0.029 Rsun, resulting in logarithmic surface gravities of 4.142 +/- 0.016 and 4.149 +/- 0.014 (cgs). We determine effective temperatures of 7870 +/- 115 and 7620 +/- 125 K. The projected rotational velocities are 34.4 +/- 0.4 and 34.1 +/- 0.4 km/s, which are close to synchronous. Theoretical models cannot matc…
We present a detailed V-band photometric light curve modeling of 30 eclipsing binaries using the data from Pietrukowicz et al. (2009) collected with the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (ESO VLT) of diameter 8-m. The light curve of these 30 eclipsing binaries were selected out of 148 of them available in the database on the basis of complete phase coverage, regular and smooth phased light curve shapes. Eclipsing binaries play pivotal role in the direct measurement of astronomical distances more accurately simply from their geometry of light curves. The accurate value of Hubbl…
The surface chemical compositions of stars are affected by physical processes which bring the products of thermonuclear burning to the surface. Despite their potential in understanding the structure and evolution of stars, elemental abundances are available for only a few high-mass binary stars. We aim to enlarge this sample by determining the physical properties and photospheric abundances for four eclipsing binary systems containing high-mass stars: V1034 Sco, GL Car, V573 Car and V346 Cen. The components have masses 8-17 Msun and effective temperatures from 22500 to 32200 K, and are all on …
We present an analysis of multi-epoch low-resolution spectrophotometry, complemented by the light curves provided by massive photometric surveys spanning over 100 years, of the symbiotic binary LMC S63. We showed that it is an eclipsing binary with the orbital period of 1050d. We also found evidence of outbursts in history of the white dwarf. If it was a Z-And type outburst, as is most likely, it would be a second such outburst recorded in the Magellanic Cloud symbiotic system. We confirmed that the red giant is enhanced in carbon, and estimated C/O~1.2 by fitting a model atmosphere to the SAL…
We report photometric observations of the eclipsing close binary CSS21055 (SDSS J141126+200911) that strongly suggest that the companion to the carbon-oxygen white dwarf is a brown dwarf with a mass between 0.030 and 0.074 Msun. The measured orbital period is 121.73min and the totality of the eclipse lasts 125s. If confirmed, CSS21055 would be the first detached eclipsing WD+BD binary. Spectroscopy in the eclipse could provide information about the companion's evolutionary state and atmospheric structure.
We present new analysis of O-C diagrams variations of three Algol-type eclipsing binary stars AD And, TW Cas and IV Cas. We have used all published minima times (including visual and photographic) as well as new determined ones from our and SuperWasp observations. We determined orbital parameters of the 3rd bodies in the systems with statistically significant errors, using our code based on genetic algorithms and Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulation. We confirmed multiple nature of AD And and triple-star model of TW Cas and we proposed quadruple-star model of IV Cas.
Further studies of the binary V658 Car (HD 92406) have now confirmed its unique main features, i.e. a shell star primary component being eclipsed by a hot low-mass star. Obviously, this binary is in its post-Algol evolutionary stage, and containing a rapidly rotating primary star and a contracting hot companion star. The analysis of old radial-velocity data indicating a primary star of lower mass has now resulted in amended parameters for the binary. According to stellar models the primary star should have a mass of 2.16 +/- 0.14 Msun and a radius of 1.64 +/- 0.04 Rsun for a Teff of 9700 +/- 5…
Building on previous work, a new search of the SuperWASP archive was carried out to identify eclipsing binary systems near the short-period limit. 143 candidate objects were detected with orbital periods between 16000 and 20000 s, of which 97 are new discoveries. Period changes significant at 1 sigma or more were detected in 74 of these objects, and in 38 the changes were significant at 3 sigma or more. The significant period changes observed followed an approximately normal distribution with a half-width at half-maximum of ~0.1 s/yr. There was no apparent relationship between period length an…
HD 62658 (B9p V) is a little-studied chemically peculiar star. Light curves obtained by the Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope (KELT) and Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) show clear eclipses with a period of about 4.75 d, as well as out-of-eclipse brightness modulation with the same 4.75 d period, consistent with synchronized rotational modulation of surface chemical spots. High-resolution ESPaDOnS circular spectropolarimetry shows a clear Zeeman signature in the line profile of the primary; there is no indication of a magnetic field in the secondary. PHOEBE modelling of the lig…
The first photometric analysis of V811 Cep was carried out. The first complete light curves of V, R and I bands are given. The analysis was carried out by Wilson-Devinney (W-D) program, and the results show that V811 Cep is a median-contact binary ($f=33.9(\pm4.9)\%$) with a mass ratio of 0.285. It is a W-subtype contact binary, that is, the component with less mass is hotter than the component with more mass, and the light curves are asymmetric (O'Connell effect), which can be explained by the existence of a hot spot on the component with less mass. The orbital inclination is $i=88.3^{\circ}$…
Binaries play key roles in determining stellar parameters and exploring stellar evolution models. We build a catalog of 88 eclipsing binaries with spectroscopic information, taking advantage of observations from both the Large Sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) and the Palomar Transient Factory (PTF) surveys. A software pipeline is constructed to identify binary candidates by examining their light curves. The orbital periods of binaries are derived from the Lomb-Scargle method. The key distinguishing features of eclipsing binaries are recognized by a new filter \texti…
We present the first BVR photometry, period variation, and photometric light-curve analysis of two poorly studied eclipsing binaries V1321 Cyg and CR Tau. Observations were carried out from November 2017 to January 2020 at the observatory of Uzhhorod National University. Period variations were studied using all available early published as well as our minima times. We have used newly developed ELISa code for the light curve analysis and determination of photometric parameters of both systems. We found that V1321 Cyg is a close detached eclipsing system with a low photometric mass ratio of $q=0…
HD 67044 currently assigned a B8 spectral type is one of the slowly rotating B stars situated in the northern hemisphere which we are currently observing. The selection criteria for this sample of stars are a declination higher than -15^o , spectral class B8 or B9, luminosity class V or IV, and a magnitude V brighter than 7.85. Most of the stars of this B8-9 sample have just recently been observed in December 2014. We are currently performing a careful abundance analysis study of high resolution high S/N ratio spectra of these objects and sort them out into chemically normal stars (ie. whose a…
The mass-luminosity relation is a fundamental law of astrophysics. We have suggested that the currently used mass-luminosity relation is not correct for the M/M_sun > 2.7 range of mass since it was created using double-lined eclipsing binaries, where the components are synchronized and consequently change each other's evolutionary path. To exclude this effect we have started a project to study long-period massive eclipsing binaries in order to construct radial velocity curves and determine masses for the components. We outline our project and present the selected test sample together with the …
We present a comprehensive photometric study of the pulsating, eclipsing binary OO Dra. Simultaneous B- and V-band photometry of the star was carried out on 14 nights. Revised orbital period and a new ephemeris were derived from the data. The first photometric solution of the binary system and the physical parameters of the component stars are determined. It reveals that OO Dra could be a detached system with the less-massive secondary component nearly filling in its Roche lobe. By subtracting the eclipsing light changes from the data, we obtained the intrinsic pulsating light curves of the ho…
Time-series photometry of the CoRoT field SRa01 was carried out with the Berlin Exoplanet Search Telescope II (BEST II) in 2008/2009. A total of 1,161 variable stars were detected, of which 241 were previously known and 920 are newly found. Several new, variable young stellar objects have been discovered. The study of the spatial distribution of eclipsing binaries revealed the higher relative frequency of Algols toward the center of the young open cluster NGC 2264. In general Algol frequency obeys an isotropic distribution of their angular momentum vectors, except inside the cluster, where a s…
Among 19 red-giant stars belonging to eclipsing binary systems that have been identified in Kepler data, 15 display solar-like oscillations. We study whether the absence of mode detection in the remaining 4 is an observational bias or possibly evidence of mode damping that originates from tidal interactions. A careful analysis of the corresponding Kepler light curves shows that modes with amplitudes that are usually observed in red giants would have been detected if they were present. We observe that mode depletion is strongly associated with short-period systems, in which stellar radii accoun…
We present the results of a spectroscopic campaign on eclipsing binaries with long orbital period (P = 20 - 75 d) carried out with the CHIRON spectrograph. Physical and orbital solutions for seven systems were derived from the V-band, and I-band ASAS, WASP, and TESS photometry, while radial velocities were calculated from high quality optical spectra using a two-dimensional cross-correlation technique. The atmospheric parameters of the stars have been determined from the separated spectra. Most of our targets are composed of evolved stars (sub-giants or red giants) but two systems show compone…
Magnetic chemically peculiar (mCP) stars are important to astrophysics because their complex atmospheres lend themselves perfectly to the investigation of the interplay between such diverse phenomena as atomic diffusion, magnetic fields, and stellar rotation. The present work is aimed at identifying new mCP stars using spectra collected by the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). Suitable candidates were selected by searching LAMOST DR4 spectra for the presence of the characteristic 5200A flux depression. Spectral classification was carried out with a modified ve…
We present an orbital solution study for the newly discovered system 1SWASP J080150.03+471433.8 by means of new CCD observations in VRI bands. Our observations were carried out on 25 Feb. 2013 using the Kottamia optical telescope at NRIAG, Egypt. 12 new times of minima were estimated and the observed light curves were analysed using the Wilson-Devinney code. The accepted orbital solution reveals that the primary component of is more massive and hotter than the secondary one by about 280K. The system is an over-contact one with fillout ratio ~ 29% and is located at a distance of 195 Pc. The evo…
As part of our study of the old (~2.5 Gyr) open cluster NGC 6819 in the Kepler field, we present photometric (Kepler and ground-based BVRcIc) and spectroscopic observations of the detached eclipsing binary WOCS 24009 (Auner 665; KIC 5023948) with a short orbital period of 3.6 days. WOCS 24009 is a triple-lined system, and we verify that the brightest star is physically orbiting the eclipsing binary using radial velocities and eclipse timing variations. The eclipsing binary components have masses M_B =1.090+/-0.010 Msun and M_C =1.075+/-0.013 Msun, and radii R_B =1.095+/-0.007 Rsun and R_C =1.0…
We present high precision, model independent, mass and radius measurements for 16 white dwarfs in detached eclipsing binaries and combine these with previously published data to test the theoretical white dwarf mass-radius relationship. We reach a mean precision of 2.4 per cent in mass and 2.7 per cent in radius, with our best measurements reaching a precision of 0.3 per cent in mass and 0.5 per cent in radius. We find excellent agreement between the measured and predicted radii across a wide range of masses and temperatures. We also find the radii of all white dwarfs with masses less than 0.4…
Detached eclipsing binaries are remarkable systems to provide accurate fundamental stellar parameters. The fundamental stellar parameters and the metallicity values of stellar systems are needed to deeply understand the stellar evolution and formation. In this study, we focus on the detailed spectroscopic and photometric studies of three detached eclipsing binary systems, V372\,And, V2080\,Cyg, and CF\,Lyn to obtain their accurate stellar, atmospheric parameters, and chemical compositions. An analysis of light and radial velocity curves was carried out to derive the orbital and stellar paramete…
The A-type star HR 6412 = V2368 Oph was used by several investigators as a photometric comparison star for the known eclipsing binary U Oph but was found to be variable by three independent groups, including us. By analysing series of new spectral and photometric observations and a critical compilation of available radial velocities, we were able to find the correct period of light and radial-velocity variations and demonstrate that the object is an eclipsing and double-lined spectroscopic binary moving in a highly eccentric orbit. We derived a linear ephemeris T min.I = HJD (2454294.67 +/- 0.…
We present a comprehensive overview of the properties of a sample of 41 magnetic chemically peculiar stars that have been recently identified in the Kepler field by our team (Hümmerich et al. 2018). The stars populate the whole age range from zero-age to terminal-age main sequence in the mass interval from 1.5 to 4 Ms. Several of the studied objects exhibit a hitherto unobserved wealth of detail in their light curves indicative of persisting complex surface structures. Monoperiodic variability and light curve stability were identified as cardinal criteria for selecting mCP star candidates amon…
We present an updated O-C diagram of the light-time variations of the eclipsing binary (component B) in the system QZ Carinae as it moves in the long-period orbit around the non-eclipsing pair (component A). This includes new Variable Stars South members' measures from 2017 to 2019, BRITE satellite observations in 2017 and 2018, and 100 previously unpublished measures made at Auckland Observatory from 1974 to 1978. We conclude that QZ Carinae has not yet completed one orbit of the two pairs since discovery in 1971. The duration of totality of primary eclipses was measured to be 0.295 +/- 0.02 …
The Nainital-Cape survey is a dedicated research programme to search and study pulsational variability in chemically peculiar stars in the Northern Hemisphere. The aim of the survey is to search such chemically peculiar stars which are pulsationally unstable. The observations of the sample stars were carried out in high-speed photometric mode using a three-channel fast photometer attached to the 1.04-m Sampurnanand telescope at ARIES. The new photometric observations confirmed that the pulsational period of star HD25515 is 2.78-hrs. The repeated time-series observations of HD113878 and HD11866…
We present the analysis of 11 589 eclipsing binary stars identified in twenty-one OGLE-III Galactic disk fields toward constellations of Carina, Centaurus, and Musca. All eclipsing binaries but 402 objects are new discoveries. The binaries have out-of-eclipse brightness between I=12.5 mag and I=21 mag. The completeness of the catalog is estimated at a level of about 75%. Comparison of the orbital period distribution for the OGLE-III disk binaries with systems detected in other recent large-scale Galactic surveys shows the maximum around 0.40 d and an almost flat distribution between 0.5 d and …
We analyze the full $\mathit{Kepler}$ phase curve of KOI-964, a binary system consisting of a hot white dwarf on an eclipsing orbit around an A-type host star. Using all 18 quarters of long-cadence photometry, we carry out a joint light curve fit and obtain improved phase curve amplitudes, occultation depths, orbital parameters, and transit ephemeris over the previous results of Carter et al. 2011. A periodogram of the residuals from the phase curve fit reveals an additional stellar variability signal from the host star with a characteristic period of $0.620276\pm0.000011$ days and a full ampl…
We report the discovery of a new eclipsing EL CVn-type binary, consisting of a $δ$ Sct-type pulsator and a thermally bloated low-mass pre-He white dwarf (WD). Spectroscopy and time-series $BV$ photometry of V1224 Cas were carried out. The spectroscopy reveals a spectral type of A3 for the star. Light-curve modelling indicate that V1224 Cas is a short-period detached system containing a possible low-mass WD with an effective temperature of about 9516 K. Based on the effective temperature and the surface gravity of the A-type primary star from the spectroscopic results, the absolute parameters o…
The hot nine-component system HD 93206, which contains a gravitationally bounded eclipsing Ac1+Ac2 binary ($P=5.9987$~d) and a spectroscopic Aa1+Aa2 ($P=20.734$~d) binary can provide~important insights into the origin and evolution of massive stars. Using archival and new spectra, and a~rich collection of ground-based and space photometric observations, we carried out a detailed study of this object. We provide a much improved description of both short orbits and a good estimate of the mutual period of both binaries of about 14500~d (i.e. 40 years). For the first time, we detected weak lines o…
Low-mass stars in eclipsing binary systems show radii larger and effective temperatures lower than theoretical stellar models predict for isolated stars with the same masses. Eclipsing binaries with low-mass components are hard to find due to their low luminosity. As a consequence, the analysis of the known low-mass eclipsing systems is key to understand this behavior. We developed a physical model of the LMDEB system NSVS 10653195 to accurately measure the masses and radii of the components. We obtained several high-resolution spectra in order to fit a spectroscopic orbit. Standardized absolu…
We present time-resolved spectroscopy and photometry of SDSS J100658.40+233724.4, which we have discovered to be an eclipsing cataclysmic variable with an orbital period of 0.18591324 days (267.71507 min). The observed velocity amplitude of the secondary star is 276 +/- 7 km/s, which an irradiation correction reduces to 258 +/- 12 km/s. Doppler tomography of emission lines from the infrared calcium triplet supports this measurement. We have modelled the light curve using the LCURVE code and Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations, finding a mass ratio of 0.51 +/- 0.08. From the velocity amplitude…
We report a study of the eclipse timing variation (ETV) of short period ($P_1\le 6^d$) eclipsing binaries (EB) monitored during the photometric survey OGLE-IV. From the 425\,193 EBs we selected approximately 80\,000 binaries that we found suitable for further examination. Among them we identified 992 potential hierarchical triple (or multiple ) system candidates exhibiting light-travel-time effect (LTTE). Besides, we obtained the orbital parameters of these systems and carried out statistical analyses on the properties of these candidates. We found that (i) there is a significant lack of tripl…
Context. Asteroseismic determinations of structural parameters of hot B subdwarfs (sdB) have been carried out for more than a decade now. These analyses rely on stellar models whose reliability for the required task needs to be evaluated critically. Aims. We present new models of the so-called third generation (3G) dedicated to the asteroseismology of sdB stars. These parameterized models are complete static structures suitable for analyzing both p- and g-mode pulsators, contrary to the former second generation (2G) models that were limited to p-modes. While the reliability of the 2G models ha…
We report the discovery of CoRoT 102980178 (R.A.= 06:50:12.10, Dec.= -02:41:21.8, J2000) an Algol-type eclipsing binary system with a pulsating component (oEA). It was identified using a publicly available 55 day long monochromatic lightcurve from the CoRoT initial run dataset (exoplanet field). Eleven consecutive 1.26m deep total primary and the equal number of 0.25m deep secondary eclipses (at phase 0.50) were observed. The following light elements for the primary eclipse were derived: HJD_MinI= 2454139.0680 + 5.0548d x E. The lightcurve modeling leads to a semidetached configuration with th…
Context. Metal-poor massive stars are supposed to be progenitors of certain supernovae, gamma-ray bursts and compact object mergers, potentially contributing to the early epochs of the Universe with their strong ionizing radiation. However, they remain mainly theoretical as individual spectroscopic observations of such objects have rarely been carried out below the metallicity of the SMC. Aims. This work aims at exploring what our state-of-the-art theories of stellar evolution combined with those of stellar atmospheres predict about a certain type of metal-poor (0.02 Z$_{\odot}$) hot massive s…
