For $1<p\le q<\infty$ and $n\in\{3\cdot 2^{k},2^{k}\}$ with $k\ge 1$, we prove that the Poisson-like semigroup $(P_t)_{t\in \mathbb{R}_+}$ on $\mathbb{Z}_n$, associated with the word length $ψ_n(k)=\min(k,n-k)$, is hypercontractive from $L_p$ to $L_q$ if and only if $t\ge \tfrac{1}{2}\log\big(\tfrac{q-1}{p-1}\big)$. We establish sharp Log--Sobolev inequalities with the optimal constant $2$, by performing a KKT analysis, and lifting from the base cases $\mathbb{Z}_6$ and $\mathbb{Z}_4$ via a Cooley--Tukey $n\mapsto 2n$ comparison of Dirichlet forms. The general case for arbitrary $n$ remains open.
In this paper, we provide a combinatorial/numerical method to establish new hypercontractivity estimates in group von Neumann algebras. We will illustrate our method with free groups, triangular groups and finite cyclic groups, for which we shall obtain optimal time hypercontractive $L_2 \to L_q$ inequalities with respect to the Markov process given by the word length and with $q$ an even integer. Interpolation and differentiation also yield general $L_p \to L_q$ hypercontrativity for $1 < p \le q < \infty$ via logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. Our method admits further applications to other d…
Let $p\geq 1$, $\ell\in \NN$, $α,β>-1$ and $\varpi=(ω_0,ω_1, \dots, ω_{\ell-1})\in \RR^{\ell}$. Given a suitable function $f$, we define the discrete-continuous Jacobi-Sobolev norm of $f$ as: $$ \normSp{f}:= \left(\sum_{k=0}^{\ell-1} \left|f^{(k)}(ω_{k})\right|^{p} + \int_{-1}^{1} \left|f^{(\ell)}(x)\right|^{p} d\Jm(x)\right)^{\frac{1}{p}}, $$ where $ d\Jm(x)=(1-x)^α (1+x)^βdx$. Obviously, $\normSp[2]{\cdot}= \sqrt{\IpS{\cdot}{\cdot}}$, where $\IpS{\cdot}{\cdot}$ is the inner product. $$ \IpS{f}{g}:= \sum_{k=0}^{\ell-1} f^{(k)}(ω_{k}) \, g^{(k)}(ω_{k}) + \int_{-1}^{1} f^{(\ell)}(x) \,g^{(\ell)…
For the weight function $W_μ(x) = (1-|x|^2)^μ$, $μ> -1$, $λ> 0$ and $b_μ$ a normalizing constant, a family of mutually orthogonal polynomials on the unit ball with respect to the inner product $$ \la f,g \ra = {b_μ[\int_{\BB^d} f(x) g(x) W_μ(x) dx + λ\int_{\BB^d} \nabla f(x) \cdot \nabla g(x) W_μ(x) dx]} $$ are constructed in terms of spherical harmonics and a sequence of Sobolev orthog onal polynomials of one variable. The latter ones, hence, the orthogonal polynomials with respect to $\la \cdot,\cdot\ra$, can be generated through a recursive formula.
We prove Sobolev-Poincaré and Poincaré inequalities in variable Lebesgue spaces $L^{p(\cdot)}(Ω)$, with $Ω\subset{\mathbb R}^n$ a bounded John domain, with weaker regularity assumptions on the exponent $p(\cdot)$ that have been used previously. In particular, we require $p(\cdot)$ to satisfy a new \emph{boundary $\log$-Hölder condition} that imposes some logarithmic decay on the oscillation of $p(\cdot)$ towards the boundary of the domain. Some control over the interior oscillation of $p(\cdot)$ is also needed, but it is given by a very general condition that allows $p(\cdot)$ to be discontinu…
We study the regularity properties of the Hamilton-Jacobi flow equation and infimal convolution in the case where initial datum function is continuous and lies in given Sobolev-space $W^{1,p}(\rn)$. We prove that under suitable assumptions it holds for solutions $w(x,t)$ that $D_xw(\cdot,t)\to Du(\cdot)$ in $L^p(\rn)$. Moreover, we construct examples showing that our results are essentially optimal.
Let $X$ be a ball Banach function space on ${\mathbb R}^n$. In this article, under some mild assumptions about both $X$ and the boundedness of the Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator on the associate space of the convexification of $X$, the authors prove that, for any locally integrable function $f$ with $\|\,|\nabla f|\,\|_{X}<\infty$, $$\sup_{λ\in(0,\infty)}λ\left \|\left|\left\{y\in{\mathbb R}^n:\ |f(\cdot)-f(y)| >λ|\cdot-y|^{\frac{n}{q}+1}\right\}\right|^{\frac{1}{q}} \right\|_X\sim \|\,|\nabla f|\,\|_X$$ with the positive equivalence constants independent of $f$, where the index $q\in(0,\i…
We prove that if $Ω\subset \mathbb R^n$ is a bounded open set and $nα> {\rm dim}_b (\partial Ω) = d$, then the Brouwer degree deg$(v,Ω,\cdot)$ of any Hölder function $v\in C^{0,α}\left (Ω, \mathbb R^{n}\right)$ belongs to the Sobolev space $W^{β, p} (\mathbb R^n)$ for every $0\leq β< \frac{n}{p} - \frac{d}α$. This extends a summability result of Olbermann and in fact we get, as a byproduct, a more elementary proof of it. Moreover we show the optimality of the range of exponents in the following sense: for every $β\geq 0$ and $p\geq 1$ with $β> \frac{n}{p} - \frac{n-1}α$ there is a vector field…
Let $u(\cdot,\cdot)$ be the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension of $f.$ The first goal of this article is to establish the fractional trace type inequalities involving the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension $u(\cdot,\cdot)$ of $f.$ In doing so, firstly, we establish the fractional Sobolev/ logarithmic Sobolev/ Hardy trace inequalities in terms of $\nabla_{(x,t)}u(x,t).$ Then, we prove the fractional anisotropic Sobolev/ logarithmic Sobolev/ Hardy trace inequalities in terms of $ {\partial_{t} u(x,t)}$ or $(-Δ)^{-γ/2}u(x,t)$ only. Moreover, based on an estimate of the Fourier transform of the Caffarelli…
We study a problem in the theory of cubature formulas on the sphere: given $θ\in (0, 1)$, determine the infimum of $\|ν\|_θ= \sum_{i = 1}^n ν_i^θ$ over cubature formulas $ν$ of strength $t$, where $ν_i$ are the weights of the formula $ν$. This problem, which generalizes the classical problem of bounding the minimal cardinality of a cubature formula -- the case $θ= 0$ -- was introduced in recent work of Hang and Wang (arXiv:2010.10654), who showed the problem to be related to optimal constants in Sobolev inequalities. Using the elementary theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces on $S^{n - 1…
In this article, we provide a multilinear version of the Hörmander multiplier theorem with a Lorentz-Sobolev space condition. The work is motivated by the recent result of the first author and Slavíková where an analogous version of classical Hörmander multiplier theorem was obtained; this version is sharp in many ways and reduces the number of indices that appear in the statement of the theorem. As a natural extension of the linear case, in this work, we prove that if $mn/2<s<mn$, then $$ \big\Vert T_σ(f_1,\dots,f_m)\big\Vert_{L^p((\mathbb{R})^n)}\lesssim \sup_{k\in\mathbb{Z}}\big\Vert σ(2^k\…
In this paper, we study the sequence of orthogonal polynomials $\{S_n\}_{n=0}^{\infty}$ with respect to the Sobolev-type inner product $$\langle f,g \rangle= \int_{-1}^{1} f(x) g(x) \,dμ(x) +\sum_{j=1}^{N} η_{j} \,f^{(d_j)}(c_{j}) g^{(d_j)}(c_{j}), $$ where $μ$ is in the Nevai class $\mathbf{M}(0,1)$, $η_j >0$, $N,d_j \in \mathbb{Z}_{+}$ and $\{c_1,\dots,c_N\}\subset \mathbb{R} \setminus [-1,1]$. Under some restriction of order in the discrete part of $\langle\cdot,\cdot \rangle$, we prove that for sufficiently large $n$ the zeros of $S_n$ are real, simple, $n-N$ of them lie on $(-1,1)$ and ea…
Let $m\ge 1$, in this paper, our object of investigation is the regularity and and continuity properties of the following multilinear strong maximal operator $${\mathscr{M}}_{\mathcal{R}}(\vec{f})(x)=\sup_{\substack{R \ni x R\in\mathcal{R}}}\prod\limits_{i=1}^m\frac{1}{|R|}\int_{R}|f_i(y)|dy,$$ where $x\in\mathbb{R}^d$ and $\mathcal{R}$ denotes the family of all rectangles in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with sides parallel to the axes. When $m=1$, denote $\mathscr{M}_{\mathcal{R}}$ by $\mathcal {M}_{\mathcal{R}}$.Then, $\mathcal {M}_{\mathcal{R}}$ coincides with the classical strong maximal function initia…
We prove a characterization of the Sobolev spaces $H^α$ on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{d-1}$, where the smoothness index $α$ is any positive real number and $d\geq 2$. This characterization does not use differentiation and it is given in terms of $([α/2]+1)$-multidimensional square functions $S_α$. For $[α/2]=0,$ a function $f\in L^2(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})$ belongs to $H^α(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})$ if and only if $S_α(f)\in L^2(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})$. If $n=[α/2]>0$, the membership of $f$ is equivalent to the existence of $g_1,\cdots,g_n$ in $L^2(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})$ such that $S_α(f,g_1,\ldots,g_n)\in L^2(\ma…
Let $P(D)$ be the Laplacian $Δ,$ or the wave operator $\square$. The following type of Carleman estimate is known to be true on a certain range of $p,q$: \[ \|e^{v\cdot x}u\|_{L^q(\mathbb{R}^d)} \le C\|e^{v\cdot x}P(D)u\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)} \] with $C$ independent of $v\in \mathbb{R}^d$. The estimates are consequences of the uniform Sobolev type estimates for second order differential operators due to Kenig-Ruiz-Sogge \cite{KRS} and Jeong-Kwon-Lee \cite{JKL}. The range of $p,q$ for which the uniform Sobolev type estimates hold was completely characterized for the second order differential ope…
