In this work, we explore the de Broglie-Bohm Quantum Cosmology for a stiff matter, $p = ρ$, anisotropic n-dimensional Universe. One begins by considering a Gaussian wave function for the Universe, which depends on the momenta parameters $q_1$ and $q_2$ , in addition to the dispersion parameters $σ_1$ and $σ_2$. Our solutions show that the extra dimensions are stabilized through a dynamical compactification mechanism within the quantum cosmology framework. In this case, we find two distinct configurations for the dynamics of the extra dimensions. The first configuration features larger extra dimensions at the bounce, which subsequently undergo compactification to a smaller size. In contrast, the second configuration exhibits a smaller extra dimension at the bounce, evolving toward a larger, finite, and stabilized value. We also address the particular five-dimensional case where the Wheeler-DeWitt equation degenerates.
In this work, we provide some simple analytical solutions to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for the minisuperspace applied to de Broglie-Bohmian quantum cosmology for particular potentials of a scalar matter field $ϕ$. One solution describes a constantly rolling scalar field with a quadratic potential plus a negative cosmological constant. The scale factor is given by a Gaussian function. The other solution describes a flat Minkowski universe with the potential of a hilltop form.
We study the canonical quantum theory of the Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black hole(RNdS). We obtain an exact general solution of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for the spherically symmetric geometry with electro-magnetic field. We investigate the wave function form a viewpoint of the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation. The de Broglie-Bohm interpretation introduces a rigid trajectory on the minisuperspace without assuming an outside observer or causing collapse of the wave function. In our analysis, we obtain the boundary condition for the wave function which corresponds to the classical RNdS black …
Classical and quantum Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker universes filled with non-interacting radiation and dust fluids are considered in the framework of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity theory. The Hořava-Lifshitz theory is set in its projectable version and without detailed balance condition. Canonical quantization is performed in the Wheeler-DeWitt approach of quantum cosmology for a minisuperspace model in the light of de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics. The main results are analytical solutions for non-singular quantum bounce and cyclic universes for open and closed spatial sec…
We have studied classical and quantum solutions of 2+1 dimensional Einstein gravity theory. Quantum theory is defined through the local conserved angular momentum and mass operators in the case of spherically symmetric space-time. The de Broglie-Bohm interpretation is applied for the wave function and we derive the differential equations for metrics. Metrics including quantum effect are obtained in solving these equations and we compare them with classical metrics. Especially the quantum effect on the closed de Sitter universe is evaluated quantitatively.
We discuss the implications of a wave function for quantum gravity, which involves nothing but 3-dimensional geometries as arguments and is invariant under general coordinate transformations. We derive an analytic wave function from the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for spherically symmetric space-time with the coordinate system arbitrary. The de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics is applied to the wave function. In this interpretation, deterministic dynamics can be yielded from a wave function in fully quantum regions as well as in semiclassical ones. By introducing a coordinate syste…
In this work we apply the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics to the quantized spherically symmetric black-hole coupled to a massless scalar field. The wave-functional used was first obtained by Tomimatsu using the standard ADM quantization and a gauge that places the observer close to the black-hole horizon. Using the causal interpretation, we compute quantum trajectories determined by the initial conditions. We show that the quantum trajectories for the black-hole mass can either increase or decrease with time. The quantum trajectories that show increasing mass represent the …
We obtain two dimensional analogue of the Jordan-Brans-Dicke (JBD) gravity action described in four dimensional spherically symmetric curved space time metric. There will be two scalar fields, namely, the Brans Dicke (BD) $ϕ$ and scale factor of 2-sphere part of the space time $ψ.$ We obtained suitable duality transformations between $(ψ,ϕ)$ and $(ρ,S)$ where $ρ$ and $S$ is respectively amplitude and phase part of the corresponding de Broglie pilot wave function $Ψ(ρ,S)=\sqrtρe^{iS}.$ Covariant conservation of mass-energy current density of particles ensemble $J_a=ρ\partial_aS,$ is established…
A modified de Broglie-Bohm (dBB) approach to quantum mechanics is presented. In this new deterministic theory, which uses complex methods in an intermediate step, the problem of zero velocity for bound states encountered in the dBB formulation does not appear. Also this approach is equivalent to standard quantum mechanics when averages of dynamical variables like position, momentum and energy are taken.
We study the quantum theory of the spherically symmetric black holes. The theory yields the wave function inside the apparent horizon, where the role of time and space coordinates is interchanged. The de Broglie-Bohm interpretation is applied to the wave function and then the trajectory picture on the minisuperspace is introduced in the quantum as well as the semi-classical region. Around the horizon large quantum fluctuations on the trajectories of metrics $U$ and $V$ appear in our model, where the metrics are functions of time variable $T$ and are expressed as $ds^2=-{α^2}/U dT^2 + U dR^2 + …
In a previous work we have exhibited a clear description of the quantum-to-classical transition of cosmological quantum fluctuations in the inflationary scenario using the de Broglie-Bohm quantum theory. These fluctuations are believed to seed the small inhomogeneities, which are then responsible for the formation of large scale structures. In this work we show that using the de Broglie-Bohm theory it is also possible to describe the quantum-to-classical transition of primordial perturbations which takes place around a bouncing phase, even if the latter is caused by quantum effects due to the …
In this thesis the Bohm-de Broglie interpretation of quantum mechanics is applied to canonical quantum gravity. It is shown that, irrespective of any regularization or choice of factor ordering of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation, the unique relevant quantum effect which does not break spacetime is the change of its signature from lorentzian to euclidean. The other quantum effects are either trivial or break the four-geometry of spacetime. A Bohm-de Broglie picture of quantum geometrodynamics is constructed, which allows the investigation of these latter structures. For instance, it is shown that a…
We review the main results that have been obtained in quantum cosmology from the perspective of the de Broglie-Bohm quantum theory. As it is a dynamical theory of assumed objectively real trajectories in the configuration space of the physical system under investigation, this quantum theory is not essentially probabilistic and dispenses the collapse postulate, turning it suitable to be applied to cosmology. In the framework of minisuperspace models, we show how quantum cosmological effects in the de-Broglie-Bohm's approach can avoid the initial singularity, and isotropize the Universe. We then…
There is a widespread belief that the classical small inhomogeneities which gave rise to all structures in the Universe through gravitational instability originated from primordial quantum cosmological fluctuations. However, this transition from quantum to classical fluctuations is plagued with important conceptual issues, most of them related to the application of standard quantum theory to the Universe as a whole. In this paper, we show how these issues can easily be overcome in the framework of the de Broglie-Bohm quantum theory. This theory is an alternative to standard quantum theory that…
We review the de Broglie-Bohm quantum theory. It is an alternative description of quantum phenomena in accordance with all the quantum experiments already performed. Essentially, it is a dynamical theory about objectively real trajectories in the configuration space of the physical system under investigation. Hence, it is not necessarily probabilistic, and it dispenses with the collapse postulate, making it suitable to be applied to cosmology. The emerging cosmological models are usually free of singularities, with a bounce connecting a contracting era with an expanding phase, which we are now…
We use an alternative interpretation of quantum mechanics, based on the Bohmian trajectory approach, and show that the quantum effects can be included in the classical equation of motion via a conformal transformation on the background metric. We apply this method to the Robertson-Walker metric to derive a modified version of Friedmann's equations for a Universe consisting of scalar, spin-zero, massive particles. These modified equations include additional terms that result from the non-local nature of matter and appear as an acceleration in the expansion of the Universe. We see that the same …
In a pilot-wave theory, an individual closed system is described by a wavefunction $ψ(q)$ and configuration $q$. The evolution of the wavefunction and configuration are respectively determined by the Schrödinger and guidance equations. The guidance equation states that the velocity field for the configuration is given by the quantum current divided by the density $|ψ(q)|^2$. We present the currents and associated guidance equations for any Hamiltonian given by a differential operator. These are derived directly from the Schrödinger equation, and also as Noether currents arising from a global p…
We reply to claims (by Deutsch, Zeh, Brown and Wallace) that the pilot-wave theory of de Broglie and Bohm is really a many-worlds theory with a superfluous configuration appended to one of the worlds. Assuming that pilot-wave theory does contain an ontological pilot wave (a complex-valued field in configuration space), we show that such claims arise from not interpreting pilot-wave theory on its own terms. Specifically, the theory has its own ('subquantum') theory of measurement, and in general describes a 'nonequilibrium' state that violates the Born rule. Furthermore, in realistic models of …
I make a review on the aplications of the Bohm-De Broglie interpretation of quantum mechanics to quantum cosmology. In the framework of minisuperspaces models, I show how quantum cosmological effects in Bohm's view can avoid the initial singularity, isotropize the Universe, and even be a cause for the present observed acceleration of the Universe. In the general case, we enumerate the possible structures of quantum space and time.

The classical trajectories for FLRW universe with varying speed of light are obtained for the cases in which the cosmological constant depends or not depend on the velocity of light. The theory is then quantized and the corresponding WDW equation is solved. It is shown that the method of causal interpretation of Bohm can be applied successfully to the theory. Finally the Bohmian trajectories are obtained and compared with the classical ones.

In the present letter, we consider the DeBroglie-Bohm interpretation of a Hořava-Lifshitz quantum cosmology model in the presence of a radiation perfect fluid. We compute the Bohm's trajectories for the scale factor and show that it never goes to zero. That result gives a strong indication that this model is free from singularities, at the quantum level. We also compute the quantum potential. That quantity helps understanding why the scale factor never vanishes.
The quantum measurement problem may have a resolution in de Broglie-Bohm theory in which measurements lead to dynamical wavefunction collapse. We study the collapse in a simple setup and find that there may be slight differences between probabilities derived from standard quantum mechanics versus those from de Broglie-Bohm theory in certain situations, possibly paving the way for an experimental test.
We consider Bohm's second-order dynamics for arbitrary initial conditions in phase space. In principle Bohm's dynamics allows for 'extended' nonequilibrium, with initial momenta not equal to the gradient of phase of the wave function (as well as initial positions whose distribution departs from the Born rule). We show that extended nonequilibrium does not relax in general and is in fact unstable. This is in sharp contrast with de Broglie's first-order dynamics, for which non-standard momenta are not allowed and which shows an efficient relaxation to the Born rule for positions. On this basis w…
Quantum gravity aims to describe gravity in quantum mechanical terms. How exactly this needs to be done remains an open question. Various proposals have been put on the table, such as canonical quantum gravity, loop quantum gravity, string theory, etc. These proposals often encounter technical and conceptual problems. In this chapter, we focus on canonical quantum gravity and discuss how many conceptual problems, such as the measurement problem and the problem of time, can be overcome by adopting a Bohmian point of view. In a Bohmian theory (also called pilot-wave theory or de Broglie-Bohm the…
A massless scalar field without self interaction and string coupled to gravity is quantized in the framework of quantum cosmology using the Bohm-de Broglie interpretation. Gaussian superpositions of the quantum solutions of the corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation in minisuperspace are constructed. The bohmian trajectories obtained exhibit a graceful exit from the inflationary Pre-Big Bang epoch to the decelerated expansion phase.
We find a Friedmann model with appropriate matter/energy density such that the solution of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation exactly corresponds to the classical evolution. The well-known problems in quantum cosmology disappear in the resulting coasting evolution. The exact quantum-classical correspondence is demonstrated with the help of the de Broglie-Bohm and modified de Broglie-Bohm approaches to quantum mechanics. It is reassuring that such a solution leads to a robust model for the universe, which agrees well with cosmological expansion indicated by SNe Ia data.

In this paper we have investigated the classical limit in Bohmian quantum cosmology. It is observed that in the quantum regime where the quantum potential is greater than the classical one, one has an expansion in terms of negative powers of the Planck constant. But in the classical limit there are regions having positive powers of the Planck constant, and regions having negative powers and also regions having both. The conclusion is that the Bohmian classical limit cannot be obtained by letting the Planck constant goes to zero.
Using both the Born-Oppenheimer idea and the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of wavefunction we represent in a different way the semiclassical quantum gravity from the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in an oscillating regime which can preserve completely the unitary quantum evolution of a matter field at the expense of a nonlinear gravitational field equation, but has the same asymptotic limit as the others. We apply the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation to the nonlinear gravitational field equation to develop a perturbation method to find the quantum corrections of a matter field to the gravity. The semi…
We investigate $(n+1)$--dimensional cosmology with varying speed of light. After solving corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation, we obtain exact solutions in both classical and quantum levels for ($c $--$Λ$)--dominated Universe. We then construct the ``canonical'' wave packets which exhibit a good classical and quantum correspondence. We show that arbitrary but appropriate initial conditions lead to the same classical description. We also study the situation from de-Broglie Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics and show that the corresponding Bohmian trajectories are in good agreement with t…
de-Broglie--Bohm causal interpretation of canonical quantum gravity in terms of Ashtekar new variables is built. The Poisson brackets of (deBroglie--Bohm) constraints are derived and it is shown that the Poisson bracket of Hamiltonian with itself would change with respect to its classical counterpart.
We propose a new initial condition for the homogeneous and isotropic quantum cosmology, where the source of the gravitational field is a conformally coupled scalar field, and the maximally symmetric hypersurfaces have positive curvature. After solving corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation, we obtain exact solutions in both classical and quantum levels. We propose appropriate initial condition for the wave packets which results in a complete classical and quantum correspondence. These wave packets closely follow the classical trajectories and peak on them. We also quantify this correspondence u…
Understanding quantum theory in terms of a geometric picture sounds great. There are different approaches to this idea. Here we shall present a geometric picture of quantum theory using the de-Broglie--Bohm causal interpretation of quantum mechanics. We shall show that it is possible to understand the key character of de-Broglie--Bohm theory, the quantum potential, as the conformal degree of freedom of the space--time metric. In this way, gravity should give the causal structure of the space--time, while quantum phenomena determines the scale. Some toy models in terms of tensor and scalar--ten…
Based on the de Broglie-Bohm relativistic quantum theory of motion we show that the conformal formulation of general relativity, being linked with a Weyl-integrable geometry, may implicitly contain the quantum effects of matter. In this context the Mach's principle is discussed.
Loop quantum gravity is believed to eliminate singularities such as the big bang and big crunch singularity. This belief is based on studies of so-called loop quantum cosmology which concerns symmetry-reduced models of quantum gravity. In this paper, the problem of singularities is analysed in the context of the Bohmian formulation of loop quantum cosmology. In this formulation there is an actual metric in addition to the wave function, which evolves stochastically (rather than deterministically as the case of the particle evolution in non-relativistic Bohmian mechanics). Thus a singularity oc…
Two dimensional (2D) analogue of vacuum sector of the Brans Dicke (BD) gravity [1] is studied to obtain dynamics of anisotropic spherically symmetric perfect fluid. Our obtained static solutions behave as dark matter with state equation $γ=\frac{p(ρ)}{\varrho}=-0.25$ but in non-static regimes behave as regular perfect fluid with barotropic index $γ>0.$ Positivity property of total mass of the fluid causes that the BD parameter to be $ω>\frac{2}{3}$ and/or $ω<-1$. Locations of the event and apparent horizons of the collapsing fluid are obtained in its static regime. In case $ω>0$ the apparent h…
