The determination of non-linear corrections to the nuclear distribution functions due to the HIJING parametrization within the framework of perturbative QCD, specifically the GLR-MQ equations, is discussed. We analyze the possibility of constraining the non-linear corrections present in distribution functions using the inclusive observables that will be measured in future electron-ion colliders (EIC and EICc). The results show that non-linear corrections play an important role in heavy nuclear reduced cross sections at low $x$ and low $Q^2$ values. We find that the non-linear corrections provide the correct behavior of the extracted nuclear cross sections and that our results align with data from the nCETQ15 parametrization group. We are currently discussing a satisfactory description of the non-linear corrections to the shadowing effect at small $x$.
We demonstrate that leading twist nuclear shadowing leads to large corrections for the extraction of the neutron structure function F_2n from the future deuteron collider data both in the inclusive and in the tagged structure function modes. We suggest several strategies to address the extraction of F_2n and to measure at the same time the effect of nuclear shadowing via the measurement of the distortion of the proton spectator spectrum in the semi-inclusive e D \to e^{\prime}pX process.
We use perfect-fluid hydrodynamical model to predict the elliptic flow coefficients in Pb + Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The initial state for the hydrodynamical calculation for central $A + A$ collisions is obtained from the perturbative QCD + saturation (EKRT) model. The centrality dependence of the initial state is modeled by the optical Glauber model. We show that the baseline results obtained from the framework are in good agreement with the data from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), and show predictions for the $p_T$ spectra and elliptic flow of pions in P…
We quantify the impact of unpolarized lepton-proton and lepton-nucleus inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) cross section measurements from the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) on the proton and nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs). To this purpose we include neutral- and charged-current DIS pseudodata in a self-consistent set of proton and nuclear global PDF determinations based on the NNPDF methodology. We demonstrate that the EIC measurements will reduce the uncertainty of the light quark PDFs of the proton at large values of the momentum fraction $x$, and, more significantly…
The production of prompt photons at high energies provides a direct probe of the dynamics of the strong interactions. In particular, one expect that it could be used to constrain the behavior of the nuclear gluon distribution in $pA$ and $AA$ collisions. In this letter we investigate the influence of nuclear effects in the production of prompt photons and estimate the transverse momentum dependence of the nuclear ratios $R_{pA} = {\frac{dσ(pA)}{dy d^2 p_T}} / A {\frac{dσ(pp)}{dy d^2 p_T}}$ and $R_{AA} = {\frac{dσ(AA)}{dy d^2 p_T}} / A^2 {\frac{dσ(pp)}{dy d^2 p_T}}$ at RHIC and LHC energies. We…
Improved knowledge of the nucleon structure is a crucial pathway toward a deeper understanding of the fundamental nature of the QCD interaction, and will enable important future discoveries. The experimental facilities proposed for the next decade offer a tremendous opportunity to advance the precision of our theoretical predictions to unprecedented levels. In this report we briefly highlight some of the recently developed tools and techniques which, together with data from these new colliders, have the potential to revolutionize our understanding of the QCD theory in the next decade.
We review predictions of the theory of leading twist nuclear shadowing for inclusive unpolarized and polarized deuteron structure functions F_2^D, g_1^D and b_1^D and for the tagged deuteron structure function F_2^D(x,Q^2,\vec{p}). We analyze the possibility to extract the neutron structure function F_2^n from electron-deuteron data and demonstrate that an account of leading twist nuclear shadowing leads to large corrections for the extraction of F_2^n from the future deuteron collider data both in the inclusive and in the tagged structure function modes. We suggest several strategies to addre…
Future electron-ion colliders (eIC) will focus on the unitarity properties of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) in the limit of strong nuclear absorption. Strong nuclear shadowing and a large abundance of coherent diffraction are the most striking consequences of unitarity, and here we report quantitative predictions for these effects in the kinematical range of the planned eIC.
A number of physics arguments for a high-luminosity high energy polarized Electron- Nucleon/Nucleus-Collider (i.e. with a luminosity of at least 10^{33} cm^{-2} sec^{-1} and an invariant energy squarred of at least s >= 100 GeV^2) are presented. The main purpose of this machine would be generally speaking the investigation of QCD beyond the twist-2 level respectively of nuclear physics beyond the level of 'effective' models. Specific topics are: twist-2 and twist-3 spin-asymmetries as probes of both the internal hadron structure and the hadronization process, Off-Forward-Parton-Distributions a…
We explore the potential of an Electron Ion Collider to determine nuclear modifications of PDFs. We find that gluon shadowing can be accurately measured down to x=0.001, and discuss the possibility of detecting non--linear QCD effects with inclusive measurements.
Gribov approach to high-energy interactions of hadrons and nuclei is reviewed and applied to calculation of particle production in heavy-ions collisions. It is pointed out that the AGK (Abramovsky, Gribov, Kancheli) cutting rules is a powerful tool to investigate particle spectra in these processes. It leads, in the Glauber approximation, to a simple formula for the density of hadrons produced in the central rapidity region in nucleus-nucleus interactions. An estimate of this density for RHIC and LHC is presented and compared with results of Monte-Carlo calculations. It is shown that the Glaub…
Jet production and jet substructure in reactions with nuclei at future electron-ion colliders will play a preeminent role in the exploration of nuclear structure and the evolution of parton showers in strongly-interacting matter. In the framework of soft-collinear effective theory, generalized to include in-medium interactions, we present the first theoretical study of inclusive jet cross sections and the jet charge at the EIC. Predictions for the modification of these observables in electron-gold relative to electron-proton collisions reveal how the flexible center-of-mass energies and kinema…
We study nuclear shadowing in $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ production in hadron-nucleus interactions and in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider. %We define the regions in $x_f$ where nuclear shadowing begins %to set in for \jp\ and \up. As a consequence of the perturbative $Q^2$-dependence of gluon shadowing, we predict that $Υ$ production is less suppressed than the $J/ψ$. We show that antishadowing leads to enhanced \jp\ production at $x_f \lesssim 0$, an effect reduced for $Υ$ production.
We present a detailed study of prompt photon production cross section in heavy-ion collisions in the central rapidity region at energy of $\sqrt{s}=5.5$ TeV, appropriate to LHC experiment. We include the next-to-leading order radiative corrections, $O(α_{em}α_s^2)$, nuclear shadowing and the parton energy loss effects. We find that the nuclear effects can reduce the invariant cross section for prompt photon production by an order of magnitude at $p_t=3$ GeV. We discuss theoretical uncertainties due to parton energy loss and nuclear shadowing parameters. We show that the K-factor, which signifi…

In these proceedings we report recent progress on understanding hadron and jet production in electron-nucleus collisions at the future Electron-Ion Collider [1,2]. These processes will play an essential role in the exploration of the partonic structure of nuclei and the study of parton shower evolution in strongly-interacting matter. We employ the framework of soft-collinear effective theory, generalized to include in-medium interactions, to present the first theoretical results for inclusive hadron and jet cross sections, as well as the jet charge modification in deep inelastic scattering on …
The Future Circular Collider is a new proposed collider at CERN with centre-of-mass energies around 100 TeV in the pp mode. Ongoing studies aim at assessing its physics potential and technical feasibility. Here we focus on updates in physics opportunities accessible in pA and AA collisions not covered in previous Quark Matter contributions, including Quark-Gluon Plasma and gluon saturation studies, novel hard probes of QCD matter, and photon-induced collisions.
A clear understanding of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) plays a crucial role in the interpretation of collider data taken at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and in the near future at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). Even with the recent inclusions of vector boson and light meson production data, the uncertainty of the gluon PDF remains substantial and limits the interpretation of heavy ion collision data. To obtain new constraints on the nuclear gluon PDF, we extend our recent nCTEQ15WZ+SIH analysis to inclusive quarkonium and open hea…
The idea that the nuclear matter may posses long range topological order is supported by the theory and the lattice calculations. At high temperature this order is instrumental in producing anomalous phenomena such as the Chiral Magnetic Effect. In the cold nuclear matter it affects the gluon distribution in the nuclear wave function at low $x$. The effect of the topological order is encapsulated in the unintegrated gluon distribution functions which are proportional, at the leading order, to the square of the gluon propagator at finite topological charge density. It is argued that the Electro…
We compute v4/(v2)^2 in ideal and viscous hydrodynamics. We investigate its sensitivity to details of the hydrodynamic model and compare the results to experimental data from RHIC. Whereas v2 has a significant sensitivity only to initial eccentricity and viscosity while being insensitive to freeze out temperature, we find that v4/(v2)^2 is quite insensitive to initial eccentricity. On the other hand, it can still be sensitive to shear viscosity in addition to freeze out temperature, although viscous effects do not universally increase v4/(v2)^2 as originally predicted. Consistent with data, we…
Inspired by the Lee-Wick higher-derivative approach to quantum field theory, Grinstein, O'Connell, and Wise have illustrated the utility of introducing into the Standard Model negative-norm states that cancel quadratic divergences in loop diagrams, thus posing a potential resolution of the hierarchy problem. Subsequent work has shown that consistency with electroweak precision parameters requires many of the partner states to be too massive to be detected at the LHC. We consider the phenomenology of a yet-higher derivative theory that exhibits three poles in its bare propagators (hence N=3), w…
We present a revision of predictions for nuclear shadowing in deep-inelastic scattering at small Bjorken $x_{Bj}$ corresponding to kinematic regions accessible by the future experiments at electron-ion colliders. The nuclear shadowing is treated within the color dipole formalism based on the rigorous Green function technique. This allows incorporating naturally color transparency and coherence length effects, which are not consistently and properly included in present calculations. For the lowest $|q\bar q\rangle$ Fock component of the photon, our calculations are based on an exact numerical s…
Around forty years passed from the beginning of operation of the first electron-positron colliding beam facility VEPP-2 in Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), Novosibirsk. Here I described development of electron-positron colliding beam project in INP, as well as advance of similar projects of the first generation at LAL, Orsay and at LNF, Frascati.
A polarized ep/eA collider (Electron-Ion Collider, or EIC) with variable center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) ~ 20-70 GeV and a luminosity ~ 10^{34} cm^{-2} s^{-1} would be uniquely suited to address several outstanding questions of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and the microscopic structure of hadrons and nuclei: (i) the three-dimensional structure of the nucleon in QCD (sea quark and gluon spatial distributions, orbital motion, polarization, correlations); (ii) the fundamental color fields in nuclei (nuclear parton densities, shadowing, coherence effects, color transparency); (iii) the conversion of…
Linac-ring type colliders will open new windows for both energy frontier and particle factories. Concerning the first direction, these machines seem to be a sole way to TeV scale in lepton-hadron collisison at constituent level. An essential advantage of the linac-ring type lepton-hadron colliders is the possibility of the construction of gamma-p, gamma-A and FELgamma-A colliders based on them. Today, eRHIC, THERA (TESLA on HERA)and Linac*LHC can be considered as realistic candidates for future lepton-hadron and photon hadron colliders. When it comes to factories, one can reach essentially hig…
In this contribution, we present a study of the coherent and incoherent nuclear DVCS process in the small-$x$ regime within the color dipole formalism. Predictions for the nuclear DVCS cross section at photon level in the collider kinematics are presented.
We expect to observe parton saturation in a future electron - ion collider. In this letter we discuss this expectation in more detail considering two different models which are in good agreement with the existing experimental data on nuclear structure functions. In particular, we study the predictions of saturation effects in electron - ion collisions at high energies, using a generalization for nuclear targets of the b-CGC model, which describes the $ep$ HERA quite well. We estimate the total, longitudinal and charm structure functions in the dipole picture and compare them with the predictio…
This contribution presents the latest predictions for several QCD processes at low-x in the color dipole picture which are of interest for current hadron-hadron and future electron-hadron colliders. The predictions are derived using the solution to the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation for proton and nuclear targets. Two different approaches to the nuclear case are studied: a solution obtained using a newly proposed type of initial condition which represents the initial state of a given nucleus and the solutions based on an initial condition representing a proton coupled to a Glauber-Gribov prescrip…
In this paper, we discuss the feasibility of measuring deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) on nuclei in a collider setting, as for example, the planned high-luminosity Electron-Ion-Collider (EIC). We demonstrate that employing our recent model for nuclear generalized parton distributions (nGPDs), the one-photon unpolarized DVCS cross section as well as the azimuthal- and spin asymmetry are of the same size as in the proton case. This will allow for an experimental extraction of nuclear GPDs with high precision shedding new light on nuclear shadowing at small $x_{bj}$ and the interplay of …
We present a detailed phenomenological study of direct photon production in association with a heavy-quark jet in pA collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at next-to-leading order in QCD. The dominant contribution to the cross-section comes from the gluon--heavy-quark (gQ) initiated subprocess, making γ+ Q production a process very sensitive to both the gluon and the heavy-quark parton distribution functions (PDFs). Additionally, the RHIC and LHC experiments are probing complementary kinematic regions in the momentum fraction x_2 carrie…
Nuclear gluon modifications are the least constrained component of current global fits to nuclear parton distributions, due to the inadequate constraining power of presently available experimental data from nuclear deep inelastic scattering and nuclear Drell-Yan lepton-pair production. A recent advance is the use of observables from relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions to supplement the data pool for global fits. It is thus of interest to investigate the sensitivity of various experimental observables to different strengths of nuclear gluon modifications from large to small Bjorken $x$. In …
We study the diffusion of charm and beauty in the early stage of high energy nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, considering the interaction of these heavy quarks with the evolving Glasma by means of the Wong equations. In comparison with previous works, we add the longitudinal expansion as well as we estimate the effect of energy loss due to gluon radiation. We find that heavy quarks diffuse in the strong transverse color fields in the very early stage (0.2-0.3 fm/c) and this leads to a suppression at low $p_T$ and enhancement at intermediate low $p_T$. The shape of the observed nucl…
We investigate a possible use of direct photon production in association with a heavy quark in $pA$ collisions at the large hadron collider to constrain the nuclear gluon parton distribution function. This process is sensitive to both, the nuclear heavy quark and gluon parton distribution functions and is a very promising candidate to help determine the gluon nuclear PDF which is still largely untested.
Collinear factorized perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) model predictions are compared for $p+{\rm Pb}$ at 5.02$A$ TeV to test nuclear shadowing of parton distribution at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The pseudorapidity distribution the nuclear modification factor (NMF), $R_{p{\rm Pb}}(y=0,p_T<20\;{\rm GeV}/{\it c}) = dn_{p{\rm Pb}} /(N_{\rm coll}(b)dn_{pp})$ and the pseudorapidity asymmetry $Y_{asym}^{h}(p_T)=R^h_{pPb}(p_T, η<0)/R^h_{pPb}(p_T,η>0)$ are computed using {\small HIJING/BB v2.0 model} and a pQCD improved parton model kTpQCD\_v2.0 which embedded generalized parton distri…
Perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD) predicts that the small-$x$ gluons in a hadron wavefunction should form a Color Glass Condensate (CGC), characterized by a saturation scale $Q_s (x, A)$ which is energy and atomic number dependent. In this paper we study the predictions of CGC physics for electron - ion collisions at high energies. We consider that the nucleus at high energies acts as an amplifier of the physics of high parton densities and estimate the nuclear structure function $F_2^A(x,Q^2)$, as well as the longitudinal and charm contributions, using a generalization for nuclear ta…
We consider the electron-positron pair production in relativistic heavy ion collisions, in which the produced electron is captured by one of the nuclei resulting, thus, in the formation of a hydrogen--like ion. These ions emerge from the collision point and hit the vacuum chamber wall inside superconducting magnets. Therefore, this process may be important for the problems of beam life time and for the quenching the irradiated magnet. A theoretical investigation for such a bound-free pair production (BFPP) at the colliders from NICA to HE LHC is presented. We obtain an approximate universal fo…
We derive Feynman rules for the interactions of a single gravitino with (s)quarks and gluons/gluinos from an effective supergravity Lagrangian in non-derivative form and use them to calculate the hadroproduction cross sections and decay widths of single gravitinos. We confirm the results obtained previously with a derivative Lagrangian as well as those obtained with the non-derivative Lagrangian in the high-energy limit and elaborate on the connection between gauge independence and the presence of quartic vertices. We perform extensive numerical studies of branching ratios, total cross section…
An important part of the physics program at the future electron-ion collider is to understand the nature of hadronization and the transport of energy and matter in large nuclei. Open heavy flavor production in deep inelastic scattering provides a new tool to address these critical questions. We present the first calculation of D-mesons and B-meson cross sections in electron-nucleus collisions at the EIC by including both next-to-leading order QCD corrections and cold nuclear matter effects. Our formalism employs generalized DGLAP evolution to include the contribution of in-medium parton shower…
The proposed high luminosity high energy Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) will explore the proton/nuclear structure in a wide Bjorken-x ($x_{BJ}$) and $Q^{2}$ phase space. Heavy flavor products are generated in initial collisions and have their hadronization influenced by the nuclear medium. Heavy flavor hadron and jet measurements at the future EIC will allow us to better constrain the nPDFs especially in the poorly constrained high $x_{BJ}$ region, precisely determine the quark/gluon fragmentation processes and directly study the quark/gluon energy loss within the nuclear medium. These measuremen…
While the phenomenon of gluon nuclear shadowing at small $x$ has been getting confirmation in QCD analyses of various LHC measurements involving heavy nuclei, it has not been possible so far to establish experimentally the number of target nucleons responsible for nuclear shadowing in a given process. To address this issue, we study coherent $J / ψ$ electroproduction on $^4$He and $^3$He in the kinematics of a future electron-ion collider and show that this process has the power to disentangle the contributions of the interaction with a specific number of nucleons $k$, in particular, with two …
This work focuses on applications of perturbative QCD (pQCD) and collinear factorization theorem to hard particle production in nuclear and hadronic collisions at the BNL-RHIC and CERN-LHC colliders. The emphasis is on nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) and their spatial dependence. Also parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions (FFs) are studied. A brief overview of the applied theoretical and numerical tools is given in the introductory part.
We investigate the energy losses of $b$ and $c$ quarks at hard collisions with gluons and light quarks in quark-gluon plasma produced in central $Au + Au$ collisions at RHIC energy($\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV). As the coupling constant at hard collision in the perturbative QCD is limited by Landau pole at momenta $Q^{2} = Λ^{2}$, we use the analytic models of QCD, where the Landau pole is absent. We calculate the energy losses of $b$ and $c$ quarks in analytic model of QCD at $Q^{2} \ge Λ^{2}$. At calculations we use the effective quasiparticle model. We use at calculations of total nuclear modi…
At high temperatures and densities the nuclear matter undergoes a phase transition to a new state of matter called quark gluon plasma (QGP). This new state of matter which existed in the universe after a few microsecond of the big bang can be created in the laboratory by colliding two nuclei at relativistic energies. In this presentation we will discuss how the the properties of QGP can be extracted by analyzing the spectra of photons, dileptons and heavy flavours produced in nuclear collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies.

We examine the phenomenological implications at colliders for the existence of higher-derivative gravity terms as extensions to the Randall-Sundrum model. Such terms are expected to arise on rather general grounds, e.g., from string theory. In 5-d, if we demand that the theory be unitary and ghost free, these new contributions to the bulk action are uniquely of the Gauss-Bonnet form. We demonstrate that the usual expectations for the production cross section and detailed properties of graviton Kaluza-Klein resonances and TeV-scale black holes can be substantially altered by existence of these …
An updated analysis regarding the expected nuclear PDF constraints from the future Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) experiment is presented. The new study is based on a more flexible small-$x$ parametrization which provides less biased uncertainty estimates in the region where there are currently no data constraints. The effect of the LHeC is quantified by directly including a sample of pseudodata according to the expected precision of this planned experiment. As a result, a significant reduction of the small-$x$ uncertainties in sea quarks and gluons is observed.
Using the high energy color dipole formalism, we study the coherent and incoherent nuclear DVCS process in the small-x regime. We consider simple models for the elementary dipole-hadron scattering amplitude that captures main features of the dependence on atomic number A, on energy and on momentum transfer t. Using the obtained amplitudes we make predictions for the nuclear DVCS cross section at photon level in the collider kinematics.
It was proposed that the electric fields may lead to chiral separation in QGP, which is called the chiral electric separation effect. The strong electromagnetic field and the QCD vacuum can both completely be produced in the off-central nuclear-nuclear collision. We used the Wood-Saxon nucleon distribution to calculate the electric field distributions of the off-central collisions. The chiral electro field spatial distribution at Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energy regions are systematically studied in this paper. Compared with magnetic field spatial d…
The transverse-momentum ($Q_T$) distribution of low-mass Drell-Yan pairs is calculated in QCD perturbation theory with all-order resummation of $α_s (α_s \ln(Q^2_T/Q^2))^n$ type terms. We demonstrate that the rapidity distribution of low-mass Drell-Yan pairs at large-enough transverse momentum is an advantageous source of constraints on the gluon distribution and its nuclear dependence. We argue that low-mass Drell-Yan pairs in the forward region provide a good and clean probe of small-$x$ gluons at collider energies.
