Recently, it was discovered that the proton structure at high energies exhibits maximal entanglement. This leads to a simple relation between the proton's parton distributions and the entropy of hadrons produced in high-energy inelastic interactions that has been experimentally confirmed. In this letter, we extend this approach to the production of jets. Here, the maximal entanglement predicts a relation between the jet fragmentation function and the entropy of hadrons produced in jet fragmentation. We test this relation using the ATLAS Collaboration data on jet production at the Large Hadron Collider and find good agreement between the prediction based on maximal entanglement within the jet and the data. This study represents the first use of the quantum entanglement framework in the experimental study of the hadronization process, offering a new perspective on the transition from perturbative to non-perturbative QCD. Our results open the door to a more comprehensive understanding of the quantum nature of hadronization.
We discuss experimental features of identified particle production from nucleus-nucleus collisions. These features reflect hadronization from a deconfined partonic matter whose particle formation scheme is distinctly different from fragmentation phenomenology in elementary collisions. Multi-parton dynamics, such as quark coalescences or recombinations, appear to be essential to explain the experimental measurements at the intermediate transverse momentum of 2--5 GeV/c. Constituent quarks seem to be the dominant degrees of freedom at hadronization. Heavy quark production should help quantify de…
The modifications of $D_s$-meson spectra in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions are identified as a quantitative probe of key properties of the hot nuclear medium. This is enabled by the unique valence-quark content of the $D_s$=$c\bar{s}$ which couples the well-known strangeness enhancement with the collective-flow pattern of primordially produced charm quarks. We employ a consistent strong-coupling treatment with hydrodynamic bulk evolution and nonperturbative $T$-matrix interactions for both heavy-quark diffusion and hadronization in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). A large enhancement of t…
The statistical hadronization model is a simple and efficient phenomenological framework in which the relative yields for very high energy heavy ion collisions are essentially determined by a single model parameter---the chemical freeze-out temperature. Recent measurements of yields of hadrons and light nuclei covering over 9 orders of magnitudes from the ALICE collaboration at the LHC were described by the model with remarkable accuracy with a chemical freeze-out temperature of 156.5 $\pm$ 1.5 MeV. A key physical question is whether the freeze-out temperature can be understood, literally, as …

Energetic quarks liberated from hadrons in nuclear deep-inelastic scattering propagate through the nuclear medium, interacting with it via several processes. These include quark energy loss and nuclear interactions of forming hadrons. One manifestation of these interactions is the enhanced emission of low-energy charged particles, referred to as grey tracks. We use the theoretical components of the BeAGLE event generator to interpret grey track signatures of parton transport and hadron formation by comparing its predictions to E665 data. We extend the base version of BeAGLE by adding four diff…
The $\barΩ/Ω$ ratio originating from string decays is predicted to be larger than unity in proton proton interactions at SPS energies ($E_{\rm lab}$=160 GeV). The anti-omega dominance increases with decreasing beam energy. This surprising behavior is caused by the combinatorics of quark-antiquark production in small and low-mass strings. Since this behavior is not found in a statistical description of hadron production in proton proton collisions, it may serve as a key observable to probe the hadronization mechanism in such collisions.
I)The production of multiple strange baryons in pp interactions is studied. Here on can directly probe the microscopic decay of color flux tubes, allowing to differentiate between different string models and a statistical description of the hadronization. II)To analyse the different stages of a heavy ion collision the time evolution of the elastic and inelastic collision rates in central Pb+Pb interactions are studied. The microscopic simulation supports the idea of separated phases (non-equilibrium -> chemical freeze-out -> kinetic freeze-out) in the evolution of the system. The spectra and a…
Hyperon resonances are becoming an extremely useful tool allowing the study of the properties of hadronic fireballs made in heavy ion collisions. Their yield, compared to stable particles with the same quark composition, depends on hadronization conditions. The resonance's short lifetime makes them ideal probes of the fireball chemical freeze-out mechanisms. An analysis of resonance abundance in heavy ion collisions should be capable of distinguishing between possible hadronization scenarios, in particular between sudden and gradual hadronization. In this paper, we review the existing SPS and …
Heavy long-lived quarks, i.e. charm and bottom, are frequently studied both as tests of QCD and as probes for other physics aspects within and beyond the standard model. The long life-time implies that charm and bottom hadrons are formed and observed. This hadronization process cannot be studied in isolation, but depends on the production environment. Within the framework of the string model, a major effect is the drag from the other end of the string that the c/b quark belongs to. In extreme cases, a small-mass string can collapse to a single hadron, thereby giving a non-universal flavour com…
Statistical hadronization models are extremly succesful in describing measured ratios of hadrons produced in heavy-ion collisions for a wide range of beam energies from SIS to RHIC. Using the idea of statistical hadronization at the phase boundary within the framework of a recently proposed dynamical model for the thermodynamics of fireballs, we establish a relation between the equation of state (EoS) in the partonic phase probed at the phase transition temperature T_C and the measured hadron ratios. In this way, the ratios can be predicted parameter-free. We demonstrate that this framework gi…

In this work, we propose a new class of jet substructure observables which, unlike fragmentation functions, are largely insensitive to the poorly known physics of hadronization. We show that sub-jet structures provide us with a large discriminating power between different jet quenching Monte Carlo implementations.
Based on a multi-phase transport model, the measured jet fragmentation function ratio of Pb+Pb collisions to p+p collisions in CERN Large Hadron Collider experiments is decomposed into two parts, corresponding to the two contributions of jet hadronization from fragmentation and coalescence. The results suggest an existence of distinct competitions between two jet hadronization mechanisms for different $ξ$=ln(1/$z$) ranges in different centrality bins. The jet fragmentation functions for different types of hadrons (mesons and baryons) are proposed as a good probe to study the competition betwee…
The dual holographic description has enjoyed many successes in explaining fundamental properties of the early stages of relativistic heavy ion collisions up to the formation of a minimal-viscosity quark-gluon fluid. However, there have been few attempts to extend its application beyond this stage. Here we explore the prospects for such an extension beyond the time of hadronization. Our discussion makes use of recent insights into the duality of entanglement properties of field theory states in the edge of Anti-de Sitter space and non-trivial topologies of horizons in the bulk, often referred t…

Using non-linear evolution equations of QCD, we compute the von Neumann entropy of the system of partons resolved by deep inelastic scattering at a given Bjorken $x$ and momentum transfer $q^2 = - Q^2$. We interpret the result as the entropy of entanglement between the spatial region probed by deep inelastic scattering and the rest of the proton. At small $x$ the relation between the entanglement entropy $S(x)$ and the parton distribution $xG(x)$ becomes very simple: $S(x) = \ln[ xG(x) ]$. In this small $x$, large rapidity $Y$ regime, all partonic micro-states have equal probabilities -- the p…
Lepto-nuclear colliders offer unique experimental opportunities to probe QCD in an extended medium. Of the many possibilities, three experiments are described here that are clearly feasible and of high scientific importance. First, a direct measurement of the saturation scale is possible using the broadening of the transverse momentum distribution of hadrons produced in semi-inclusive DIS. This connection to saturation physics will provide a quantitative measure of the degree to which this fundamental QCD phenomenon is occurring, and has important consequences in other high-energy scattering s…
Recently the ALICE Collaboration has published a few data of charm hadrons in Pb + Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We extend the quark combination to the charm sector and point out that the measurement of charm hadron yields can provide important insights into charm quark hadronization mechanism and properties of the hot and dense matter produced in high energy reactions. We propose several types of yield ratios, e.g. $D^{*+}/D^0$, $D_s^+/D^+$ and $Λ_c^+/D_s^+$, to measure various properties of low $p_T$ charm quark hadronization. We argue that ratios $D_s^+/D^0$ and $2D…
We study holographic aspects of mixed state entanglement measures in various large $N$ top-down as well as bottom-up confining models. For the top-down models, we consider wrapped $D3$ and $D4$ branes gravity solutions whereas, for the bottom-up confining model, the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity solution is considered. We study entanglement entropy, mutual information, entanglement wedge cross-section and entanglement negativity for the strip subsystems and find model independent features of these entanglement measures in all confining theories. The entanglement negativity and entropy exhib…
Quantum entanglement provides a novel way to test short distance physics in the non-relativistic regime. We will provide a protocol to {\it potentially} test new physics by bringing two charged massive particle interferometers adjacent to each other. Being charged, the two superpositions will be entangled via electromagnetic interactions mediated by the photons, including the Coulomb and the Casimir-Polder potential. We will bring a method of {\it entanglement based tomography} to seek time evolution of very small entanglement phases to probe new physical effects mediated by {\it hitherto unkn…
We study various entanglement measures in a one-parameter family of three-dimensional, strongly coupled Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons field theories by means of their dual supergravity descriptions. A generic field theory in this family possesses a mass gap but does not have a linear quark-antiquark potential. For the two limiting values of the parameter, the theories flow either to a fixed point or to a confining vacuum in the infrared. We show that entanglement measures are unable to discriminate confining theories from non-confining ones with a mass gap. This lends support on the idea that the ph…
Parton distributions can be defined in terms of the entropy of entanglement between the spatial region probed by deep inelastic scattering (DIS) and the rest of the proton. For very small $x$, the proton becomes a maximally entangled state. This approach leads to a simple relation $S = \ln N $ between the average number $N$ of color-singlet dipoles in the proton wave function and the entropy of the produced hadronic state $S$. At small $x$, the multiplicity of dipoles is given by the gluon structure function, $N = x G(x,Q^2)$. Recently, the H1 Collaboration analyzed the entropy of the produced…
In this article, we investigate the quantum circuit complexity and entanglement entropy in the recently studied black hole gas framework using the two-mode squeezed states formalism written in arbitrary dimensional spatially flat cosmological Friedmann-Lema$\hat{i}$tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) background space-time. We compute the various complexity measures and study the evolution of these complexities by following two different prescriptions viz. Covariant matrix method and Nielsen's method. Independently, using the two-mode squeezed states formalism we also compute the Rényi and Von-Neumann …
