We investigate the effects of the bottom-quark induced processes on the doubly polarized cross sections of $W^+W^-$ pair production at the LHC. The method to extract the on-shell single-top contribution is provided. Results for phenomenological and experimental analyses are given at next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD+EW accuracy, with the leading contribution from the gluon-gluon and photon-photon fusion included. We found that the contribution of the bottom-quark induced processes, after the subtraction of the on-shell $tW$ channel, is largest for the doubly longitudinal polarization. At the integrated cross section level, using a fiducial ATLAS cut with a jet veto, the effect is $9\%$ compared to the NLO value of the light-quark contribution. It increases to $13\%$ after removing the jet veto. A bound of the $tW$ interference is calculated for various kinematic distributions, showing that this interference effect is, in general, smaller for the no jet veto case. Relevant scale uncertainties are calculated to help us decide on the importance of this interference.
Measuring the polarization of electroweak bosons at the LHC allows for important tests of the electroweak-symmetry-breaking mechanism that is realized in nature. Therefore, precise Standard Model predictions are needed for the production of polarized bosons in the presence of realistic kinematic selections. We formulate a method for the calculation of polarized cross-sections at NLO that relies on the pole approximation and the separation of polarized matrix elements at the amplitude level. In this framework, we compute NLO-accurate cross-sections for the production of two polarized Z bosons a…
We report on the status of an ongoing calculation of the NLO electroweak corrections to sequential polarized top quark decays $t(\uparrow) \to X_b +W^+ (\to \ell^+ +ν_\ell)$.
We present new results for next-to-leading order (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections to double polarization signals in the $WZ$ production channel at the LHC using the $e^+ν_e μ^+ μ^-$ final state. It is found that the EW corrections are most sizable in the transverse momentum distributions of the doubly longitudinal polarization, being around -10% compared to the NLO QCD prediction at $p_{T,e}\approx 200$ GeV, which is in the accessible energy range of the current LHC data.
We apply the method of perturbative fragmentation to study bottom fragmentation in top decay. We present the energy spectrum of b-quarks and b-flavoured hadrons in top decay
The next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to top anti-top bottom anti-bottom (tTbB) production at the LHC reveal that the scale choice adopted in previous lowest-order simulations underestimates the tTbB cross section by a factor two. We discuss a new dynamical scale that stabilizes the perturbative predictions and describe the impact of the corrections on the shape of distributions. We also account for the techniques employed to compute the six-particle one-loop amplitudes with high CPU efficiency.
We apply the MC@NLO formalism to the production of heavy-quark pairs in pointlike photon-hadron collisions. By combining this result with its analogue relevant to hadron-hadron collisions, we obtain NLO predictions matched to parton showers for the photoproduction of QQ^{-} pairs. We compare MC@NLO results to the measurements of c- and b-flavoured hadron observables performed by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations at HERA.
The dominant contribution to the Higgs production in association with bottom quark pair at the LHC is gluon-gluon fusion parton subprocess. We present a complete calculation of the next-to-leading order (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections to this channel. The other small contributions with quarks in the initial state are calculated at tree level. We find that the NLO EW corrections can suppress the leading order (LO) contributions significantly.
Accessing the polarization of weak bosons provides an important probe for the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. Relying on the double-pole approximation and on the separation of polarizations at the amplitude level, we study WZ production at the LHC, with both bosons in a definite polarization mode, including NLO QCD effects. We compare results obtained defining the polarization vectors in two different frames. Integrated and differential cross-sections in a realistic fiducial region are presented.
We present a calculation of the two-loop bottom-sbottom-gluino contributions to Higgs boson production via gluon fusion in the MSSM. The calculation is based on an asymptotic expansion in the masses of the supersymmetric particles, which are assumed to be much heavier than the bottom quark and the Higgs bosons. We obtain explicit analytic results that allow for a straightforward identification of the dominant contributions in the NLO bottom corrections. We emphasize the interplay between the calculations of the masses and the production cross sections of the Higgs bosons, discussing sensible c…
We calculate the Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) QCD corrections to Z b anti-b production in hadronic collisions including full bottom-quark mass effects. We present results for the total cross section and the invariant mass distribution of the bottom-quark jet pair at the Fermilab Tevatron p anti-p collider. We perform a detailed comparison with a calculation that considers massless bottom quarks, as implemented in the Monte Carlo program MCFM. We find that neglecting bottom-quark mass effects overestimates the total NLO QCD cross section for Z b anti-b production at the Tevatron by about 7%, ind…
The process pp -> top anti-top bottom anti-bottom + X represents a very important background reaction to searches at the LHC, in particular to top anti-top H production where the Higgs boson decays into a bottom anti-bottom pair. A successful analysis of top anti-top H at the LHC requires the knowledge of direct top anti-top bottom anti-bottom production at NLO in QCD. We take the first step in this direction upon calculating the NLO QCD corrections to the subprocess initiated by quark anti-quark annihilation.
We present NLO QCD results for W/Z gauge boson production with bottom quark pairs at the Tevatron including full bottom-quark mass effects. We study the impact of QCD corrections on both total cross-section and invariant mass distribution of the bottom-quark pair. Including NLO QCD corrections greatly reduces the dependence of the tree-level cross-section on the renormalization and factorization scales. We also compare our calculation to a calculation that considers massless bottom quarks and find that the bottom-quark mass effects amount to about 8-10% of the total NLO QCD cross-section and c…
We present partial results on NLO and NNLO QCD, and NLO electroweak corrections to polarized top quark decays. In parallel we derive positivity bounds for the polarized structure functions in polarized top quark decays and check them against the perturbative corrections to the structure functions.
We present predictions for a variety of single-inclusive observables that stem from the production of charm and bottom quark pairs at the 7 TeV LHC. They are obtained within the FONLL semi-analytical framework, and with two "Monte Carlo + NLO" approaches, MC@NLO and POWHEG. Results are given for final states and acceptance cuts that are as close as possible to those used by experimental collaborations and, where feasible, are compared to LHC data.
We calculate the Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) QCD corrections to W-b-bbar production including full bottom-quark mass effects. We study the impact of NLO QCD corrections on the total cross section and invariant mass distribution of the bottom-quark jet pair at the Fermilab Tevatron p-pbar collider. We perform a detailed comparison with a calculation that considers massless bottom quarks. We find that neglecting bottom-quark mass effects overestimates the NLO total cross-section for W-b-bbar production at the Tevatron by about 8% independent of the choice of renormalization and factorization sca…

A successful analysis of top anti-top H at the LHC requires the knowledge of direct top anti-top bottom anti-bottom production at next-to-leading order in QCD. We take the first step in this direction upon calculating the next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to the subprocess initiated by quark anti-quark annihilation. The combined analysis of polarized DIS and SIDIS data is performed in NLO QCD. The new parametrization on polarized PDFs is constructed. The uncertainties on PDFs and their first moments are estimated applying the modified Hessian method. The especial attention is paid to the impact of novel SIDIS data on the polarized distributions of light sea and strange quarks. In particular, the important question of polarized sea symmetry is studied in comparison with the latest results on this subject.
The semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process is considered. It is proposed a theoretical procedure allowing the direct extraction from the SIDIS data of the first moments of the polarized valence distributions and of the first moment difference of the light sea quark polarized distributions in the next to leading (NLO) QCD order. The validity of the procedure is confirmed by the respective simulations.
We compute the differential and total rate of the semileptonic decay of polarized top-quarks $t\to \ell ν_\ell + b{\rm jet} + {\rm jet}$ at next-to-leading order (NLO) in the QCD coupling with an off-shell intermediate $W$ boson. We present several normalized distributions, in particular those that reflect the $t$-spin analyzing powers of the lepton, the b-jet and the $W^+$ boson at LO and NLO QCD.
We present predictions for top anti-top bottom anti-bottom production at the LHC in next-to-leading order QCD. The precise description of this background process is a prerequisite to observe associated top anti-top Higgs production in the Higgs -> bottom anti-bottom decay channel and to directly measure the top-quark Yukawa coupling at the LHC. The leading-order cross section is extremely sensitive to scale variations. We observe that the traditional scale choice adopted in ATLAS simulations underestimates the top anti-top bottom anti-bottom background by a factor two and introduce a new dynam…
We present a calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to heavy flavor photoproduction with longitudinally polarized beams. We apply our results to study the spin asymmetry for total charm quark production which will be used for a first direct determination of Delta g by the COMPASS experiment. We also briefly discuss the main theoretical uncertainties inherent in this calculation.
We perform a detailed study of the consistency between different sets of polarized deep inelastic scattering data and theory, from the standpoint of a next to leading order QCD global analysis, and following the criteria proposed by Collins and Pumplin. In face of recent suggestions that challenge the usual assumption about parent parton spin independence of unpolarized fragmentation functions, we specially focus on polarized semi-inclusive data.
We report the results of a computation of the full next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of two $b\bar{b}$ pairs at the LHC. This calculation at the parton level provides predictions for well separated $b$-jets. The results show that the next-to-leading order corrections lead to an enhancement of the cross-section for the central scale choice by roughly 50% with respect to the leading order result. The theoretical uncertainty estimated by variation of the renormalization and factorization scales is strongly reduced by the inclusion of next-to-leading order corrections.
The semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process is considered. A theoretical procedure is proposed allowing the direct extraction from the SIDIS data of the first moments of the polarized valence distributions and of the first moment difference of the light sea quark polarized distributions in the next to leading QCD order. The validity of the procedure is confirmed by the respective simulations.
We report on the calculation of the full next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of top anti-top bottom anti-bottom (ttbb) final states at the LHC, which deliver a serious background contribution to the production of a Higgs boson (decaying into a bottom anti-bottom pair) in association with a top anti-top pair. While the corrections significantly reduce the unphysical scale dependence of the leading-order cross section, our results predict an enhancement of the ttbb production cross section by a K-factor of about 1.8.
The $W$-pair production in association with a massive (anti)bottom jet is not only an important background to a number of interesting processes, such as the single top production associated with a W boson, but also a potential background to new physics searches. We present the calculations of the total and differential cross sections for the $W^+W^-+ b(\bar{b})$ jet productions at the LHC up to the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO). Our results by adopting the QCD NLO contribution collection scheme-I show that the K factors can be 1.66 and 1.21 with the inclusive and exclusive two-jet event sele…
We have carried out a NLO analysis of the world data on polarized DIS in the MS/bare scheme. We have studied two models of the parametrizations of the input parton densities, the first due to Brodsky, Burkhardt and Schmidt (BBS) which gives a simultaneous parametrization for both the polarized and unpolarized densities and in which the counting rules are strictly imposed, the second in which the input polarized densities are written in terms of the unpolarized ones in the generic form Deltaq(x)=f(x)q(x) with f(x) some simple smooth function. In both cases a good fit to the polarized data is ac…
The doubly-polarized production of $W^\pm Z$ pairs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is presented at next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy both for the electroweak (EW) and QCD corrections, including a detailed description of the calculational method using the double-pole approximation. Numerical results at the 13 TeV LHC are presented in particular for the $W^- Z$ case in the $e^-\barν_e μ^+μ^-$ channel using ATLAS fiducial cuts and for polarized distributions defined in the $WZ$ center-of-mass system. The NLO EW corrections relative to the NLO QCD predictions are found to be smaller than $5\…
We study the inclusive production of bottom-flavored hadrons from semileptonic decays of polarized top quarks at next-to-leading order in QCD using fragmentation functions recently determined from a global fit to $e^+e^-$ data. We provide the relevant differential decay widths at parton level in analytic form. These results fill an important gap in the theoretical interpretation of recent measurements of the top-quark polarization and the $t\bar{t}$ spin correlations using dilepton final states in proton-proton collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. As an illustration, we study the dist…
In this work, we investigate the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD correction to $J/ψ$ associated production with a bottom quark pair from the Higgs boson decay within the nonrelativistic QCD framework. From numerical results, {we find that the decay width of process $H \rightarrow b+ J/ψ+\bar{b}$ at leading order (LO) mainly comes from the contribution of the Fock state $^3S^{(8)}_1$, and the NLO QCD corrections significantly enhance the decay width at LO accuracy by about 2 times. At NLO accuracy, the Fock states $^3S^{(8)}_1$ and $^3P^{(8)}_J$ channels give the main contribution, accounting f…
We compute the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) SUSY-QCD corrections for the associated production of a pseudoscalar Higgs boson with a bottom quark via bottom-gluon fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Fermilab Tevatron. We find that the NLO QCD correction in the MSSM reaches $40%\sim50%$ at the LHC and $45%\sim80%$ at the Tevatron in our chosen parameter space.

We have re-analyzed the world data on inclusive polarized DIS, in both NLO and LO QCD, including the new HERMES and COMPASS data. The updated NLO polarized densities are given in both the $\rm \bar{MS}$ and JET schemes. The impact of the new data on the results is discussed.
We present a first calculation of the heavy flavor contribution to the longitudinally polarized DIS structure function $g_1$, differential in the transverse momentum or the rapidity of the observed heavy antiquark $\overline{Q}$. All results are obtained at next-to-leading order accuracy with a newly developed parton-level Monte Carlo generator that also allows one to study observables associated with the heavy quark pair such as its invariant mass distribution or its correlation in azimuthal angle. First phenomenological studies are presented in a kinematic regime relevant for a future Electr…
We present the first fully differential next-to-leading order QCD calculation for lepton production in transversely polarized hadronic collisions, pp -> l X , where the lepton arises from the decay of an electroweak gauge boson. The calculation is implemented in the Monte-Carlo like code `CHE' that already includes the unpolarized and longitudinally polarized cross sections and may be readily used to perform a comparison to experimental data and to extract information on the related parton distributions. We analyze the perturbative stability of the cross-section and double spin asymmetry A_TT …
We investigate the one-gluon-exchange ($αα_s$) corrections to the polarized real photon structure function $g_1^γ(x,Q^2)$ in the massive parton model. We employ a technique based on the Cutkosky rules and the reduction of Feynman integrals to master integrals. The NLO contribution is noticeable at large $x$ and does not vanish at the threshold of the massive quark pair production due to the Coulomb singularity. It is found that the first moment sum rule of $g_1^γ$ is satisfied up to the NLO.
We calculate the complete one-loop quantum corrections to the helicity eigenstate chargino pair production cross sections in polarized electron positron collisions, within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We calculate the non-QED corrections using the helicity amplitudes formalism, and Dimensional Regularization to deal with ultraviolet divergences. We calculate QED corrections using the dipole subtraction formalism to extract soft and collinear divergences in Bremsstrahlung, canceling them with the infrared divergences from virtual QED corrections. We show numerical results for the …
We study the effect of scheme dependence upon the NLO QCD analysis of the world data on polarized DIS. The reliability of an analysis at NLO is demonstrated by the consistency of our polarized densities with the NLO transformation rules relating them to each other. We stress the importance of the chiral JET scheme in which all the hard effects are consistently absorbed in the Wilson coefficient functions.
We study the scaled-energy (x_B) distribution of bottom-flavored hadrons (B) inclusively produced in top-quark decays at next-to-leading order (NLO) in the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme endowed with realistic, nonperturbative fragmentation functions that are obtained through a global fit to e^+e^- data from CERN LEP1 and SLAC SLC exploiting their universality and scaling violations. Specifically, we study the effects of gluon fragmentation and finite bottom-quark and B-hadron masses. We find the NLO corrections to be significant. Gluon fragmentation leads to an appreciable reducti…
Method of polarized semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) data analysis in the next to leading order (NLO) QCD is developed. Within the method one first directly extracts in NLO few first truncated (available to measurement) Mellin moments of the quark helicity distributions. Second, using these moments as an input to the proposed modification of the Jacobi polynomial expansion method (MJEM), one eventually reconstructs the local quark helicity distributions themselves. All numerical tests demonstrate that MJEM allows us to reproduce with the high precision the input local distribut…
We present total and differential cross sections for W b anti-b and Z b anti-b production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV, including Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) QCD corrections and full bottom-quark mass effects. We also provide numerical results obtained with a center-of-mass energy of 10 TeV. We study the scale uncertainty of the total cross sections due to the residual renormalization- and factorization-scale dependence of the truncated perturbative series. While in the case of Z b anti-b production the scale uncertainty of the total cross section is…
The measurement of polarization fractions of massive gauge bosons at the LHC provides an important check of the Standard Model and in particular of the Electroweak Symmetry Breaking mechanism. Owing to the unstable character of $\text{W}$ and $\text{Z}$ bosons, devising a theoretical definition for polarized signals is not straightforward and always subject to some ambiguity. Focusing on $\text{W}$-boson pair production at the LHC in the fully leptonic channel, we propose to compute polarized cross-sections and distributions based on the gauge-invariant doubly-resonant part of the amplitude. W…
We present the full next-to-leading order (NLO) corrected inclusive cross section for massive lepton pair production in longitudinally polarized proton-proton collisions. All QCD partonic subprocesses have been included provided the lepton pair is created by a virtual photon, which is a valid approximation for $Q<50 {\rm GeV}$. Like in unpolarized proton-proton scattering the dominant subprocess is given by the $q(\bar q)g$-channel so that massive lepton pair production provides us with an excellent method to measure the spin density of the gluon. Using our calculations we give predictions for…
We present a calculation of the two-loop evolution kernels of the twist-two transversally polarized quark and linearly polarized gluon skewed parton distributions in the minimal subtraction scheme and discuss a solution of the evolution equations suitable for numerical implementations.
We compute the polarized splitting functions in the triple collinear limit at next-to-leading order accuracy (NLO) in the strong coupling $α_{\rm S}$, for the splitting processes $γ\to q \bar{q} γ$, $γ\to q \bar{q} g$ and $g \to q \bar{q} γ$. The divergent structure of each splitting function was compared to the predicted behaviour according to Catani's formula. The results obtained in this paper are compatible with the unpolarized splitting functions computed in a previous article. Explicit results for NLO corrections are presented in the context of conventional dimensional regularization (CD…

In this talk we summarize main results of a recent determination of the polarized deeply inelastic parton distributions to NLO from the world data. In the analysis the LO and NLO parton densities and their $1σ$ statistical errors were derived and parameterized. The strong coupling constant $α_s(M_Z^2)$ is determined $α_s(M_Z^2) = 0.113 \pm 0.004 {\rm (stat.)} \pm~0.004 {\rm (fac.)} +0.008/-0.005 {\rm (ren.)}$ Comparisons of the low moments of the parton densities with recent lattice results are given. A detailed error-analysis of the gluon density is performed.
The one-loop NLO radiative corrections to the observables in polarized DIS using assumption that a quark is an essential massive particle are considered. If compared with classical QCD formulae the obtained results are identical for the unpolarized and different for polarized sum rules, that can be explained as the influence of the finite quark mass effects on NLO QCD corrections. The explicit expression for one-loop NLO QCD contribution to the structure function g_2 is presented.
A next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD analysis of the spin-dependent parton distributions $Δf^γ(x,Q^2)$ of the longitudinally polarized photon and of its structure function $g_1^γ(x,Q^2)$ is performed within the framework of the radiative parton model. The important issues of a suitably chosen factorization scheme and related boundary conditions are discussed in detail. The typical effects of the NLO corrections are quantitatively studied for two very different conceivable scenarios for the NLO polarized parton distributions $Δf^γ(x,Q^2)$.
The complete details of our calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to heavy flavor photo- and hadroproduction with longitudinally polarized initial states are presented. The main motivation for investigating these processes is the determination of the polarized gluon density at the COMPASS and RHIC experiments, respectively, in the near future. All methods used in the computation are extensively documented, providing a self-contained introduction to this type of calculations. Some employed tools also may be of general interest, e.g., the series expansion of hypergeometric functions. The releva…
Within the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) the associated production of neutral Higgs bosons with top and bottom quarks belongs to the most important Higgs-boson production processes at the LHC. At large values of tan(beta), in particular, bottom--Higgs associated production constitutes the dominant production channel within the MSSM. We have calculated the next-to-leading-order supersymmetric QCD corrections to neutral Higgs production through the parton processes q qbar, gg -> t tbar / b bbar + h/H/A and present results for the total cross sections. The genuine …
We summarise predictions for top anti-top bottom anti-bottom (tTbB) production at the LHC in next-to-leading order QCD. The precise description of this background process is a prerequisite to observe associated top anti-top Higgs production in the H -> bottom anti-bottom decay channel. The one-loop amplitudes are computed using Feynman diagrams and numerical tensor reduction. This approach provides very high numerical stability and CPU efficiency. We find that the scale choice adopted in ATLAS simulations underestimates the tTbB background by a factor two and introduce a new dynamical scale th…
We compute fully differential next-to-leading order QCD cross-sections for Higgs boson production via gluon fusion in the Standard Model. We maintain the full dependence of the cross-sections on the top and bottom quark mass. We find that finite quark mass effects are important given the achieved precision of QCD predictions for gluon fusion. Our Monte-Carlo program, HPro, can correct existing NNLO fully differential calculations, which employ the approximation of an infinitely heavy top and a vanishing bottom quark Yukawa coupling, for heavy quark finite mass effects through NLO.
The calculation of NLO QCD corrections to the production cross section of two bottom pairs at the LHC is briefly summarized. We describe the pp -> b anti-b b anti-b+X process both in the 4-flavor and 5-flavor scheme and investigate the effect of the finite bottom quark mass. The results for the total cross section and a few differential distributions are presented. They have been obtained with the Nagy-Soper subtraction formalism for real radiation at NLO. A comparison with results based on the traditional Catani-Seymour subtraction is also included.
We present a complete next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation for the total cross section for inclusive Higgs pair production via bottom-quark fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and the minimal supergravity model (mSUGRA). We emphasize the contributions of squark and gluino loops (SQCD) and the decoupling properties of our results for heavy squark and gluino masses. The enhanced couplings of the b quark to the Higgs bosons in supersymmetric models with large tanb yield large NLO SQCD corrections in some regions of parameter space.
For very large values of $\tanβ$, charged Higgs boson pair production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from the scattering of two bottom quarks can proceed dominantly. We investigated the cross sections of charged Higgs boson pair production via the subprocess $b\bar{b} \to H^+H^-$ at the LHC including the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We find that the NLO QCD corrections can significantly reduce the dependence of the cross sections on the renormalization and factorization scales.

Parity violation induced by the chromo-anapole form factor of the bottom quark, generated from weak corrections, is studied in polarized hadron collisions. The forward-backward asymmetry in the bottom quark pair production at polarized $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ colliders is evaluated in the Standard Model and in a Two Higgs Doublet Model to examine the effects of parity violation. In the models studied, promising results are found for polarized $p\bar{p}$ colliders.
