In this article, we classify (up to isomorphism) disconnected reductive groups over an algebraically closed field. For the fixed dimension and number of components, our results show that there are only finitely many reductive groups of that dimension with that many components. Besides this, we obtain new results about the structure and representation theory of disconnected reductive groups.
We present various results on disconnected reductive groups, in particular about the characteristic 0 representation theory of such groups over finite fields.
Let $D$ be a connected component of a possibly disconnected reductive group $G$ over an algebraic closed field. We define a partition of $D$ into finitely many Strata each of which is a union of $G^0$-conjugacy classes of fixed dimension. In the case where $D=G^0$ this recovers a known partition.
We study three fundamental topics in the representation theory of disconnected algebraic groups whose identity component is reductive: (i) the classification of irreducible representations; (ii) the existence and properties of Weyl and dual Weyl modules; and (iii) the decomposition map relating representations in characteristic $0$ and those in characteristic $p$ (for groups defined over discrete valuation rings). For each of these topics, we obtain natural generalizations of the well-known results for connected reductive groups.
Let $G$ be a non-connected reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ and let $D$ be a connected component of $G$. We investigate Jordan classes of $D$ and we obtain a description of the regular part of the closure of a Jordan class in terms of induction of $G^{\circ}$-orbits. We use this result to show that Lusztig strata in a non-connected reductive algebraic group are locally closed.
Let $G$ be the real reductive group and let $G_0$ be the identity component. Let us assume that the unitary dual $\hat{G_0}$ is known. In this paper (in Section 5) the unitary dual $\hat{G}$ is constructed. Automorphisms of $G_0$ generated by elements of $G$ are the main ingredient of the construction. If the automorphism is outer, one has to consider the corresponding intertwining operators $S$. Operators $S$ and their properties are analyzed in Section 4. Automorphisms of $g_0$ are closely related to automorphisms of $G_0$. They are investigated in Section 3. Automorphisms of so(4,4)$ are an…
We introduce graded Hecke algebras H based on a (possibly disconnected) complex reductive group G and a cuspidal local system L on a unipotent orbit of a Levi subgroup M of G. These generalize the graded Hecke algebras defined and investigated by Lusztig for connected G. We develop the representation theory of the algebras H. obtaining complete and canonical parametrizations of the irreducible, the irreducible tempered and the discrete series representations. All the modules are constructed in terms of perverse sheaves and equivariant homology, relying on work of Lusztig. The parameters come d…
The 2-parameter Green functions occur as a crucial ingredient in the character formula for Lusztig induction in finite reductive groups. Still, very little is known about these functions, in particular in the case of groups arsing from algebraic groups with disconnected centre. We collect some basic properties and then apply these, together with some explicit computations, to determine all 2-parameter Green functions for 8-dimensional spin groups in odd characteristic, whose centre is disconnected of order~4.
Let G be a split connected reductive group over a local non-archimedean field. We classify all irreducible complex G-representations in the principal series, irrespective of the (dis)connectedness of the centre of G. This leads to a local Langlands correspondence for principal series representations, which satisfies all expected properties. We also prove that the ABPS conjecture about the geometric structure of Bernstein components is valid throughout the principal series of G.
This paper gives a classification of all pairs $(\mathfrak g, \mathfrak h)$ with $\mathfrak g$ a simple real Lie algebra and $\mathfrak h < \mathfrak g$ a reductive subalgebra for which there exists a minimal parabolic subalgebra $\mathfrak p < \mathfrak g$ such that $\mathfrak g = \mathfrak h + \mathfrak p$ as vector sum.
In this semi-expository paper we review the notion of a spherical space. In particular we present some recent results of Wedhorn on the classification of spherical spaces over arbitrary fields. As an application, we introduce and classify reductive monoid spaces over an arbitrary field.
If ${\mathfrak g}$ is a real reductive Lie algebra and ${\mathfrak h} < {\mathfrak g}$ is a subalgebra, then $({\mathfrak g}, {\mathfrak h})$ is called real spherical provided that ${\mathfrak g} = {\mathfrak h} + {\mathfrak p}$ for some choice of a minimal parabolic subalgebra ${\mathfrak p} \subset {\mathfrak g}$. In this paper we classify all real spherical pairs $({\mathfrak g}, {\mathfrak h})$ where ${\mathfrak g}$ is semi-simple but not simple and ${\mathfrak h}$ is a reductive real algebraic subalgebra. The paper is based on the classification of the case where ${\mathfrak g}$ is simple…
We classify the spherical birational sheets in a complex simple simply-connected algebraic group. We use the classification to show that, when $G$ is a connected reductive complex algebraic group with simply-connected derived subgroup, two conjugacy classes $\mathcal{O}_1$, $\mathcal{O}_2$ of $G$ lie in the same birational sheet, up to a shift by a central element of $G$, if and only if the coordinate rings of $\mathcal{O}_1$ and $\mathcal{O}_2$ are isomorphic as $G$-modules. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture of Losev for the spherical subvariety of the Lie algebra of $G$.
Let F be a locally compact non-archimedean field, p its residue characteristic, and G a connected reductive group over F. Let C an algebraically closed field of characteristic p. We give a complete classification of irreducible admissible C-representations of G = G(F), in terms of supercuspidal C-representations of the Levi subgroups of G, and parabolic induction. Thus we push to their natural conclusion the ideas of the third-named author, who treated the case G = GL_m, as further expanded by the first-named author, who treated split groups G. As in the split case, we first get a classificati…
The author classifies Klein four symmetric pairs of holomorphic type for non-compact Lie group $\mathrm{E}_{6(-14)}$, which gives a class of pairs $(G,G')$ of real reductive Lie group $G$ and its reductive subgroup $G'$ such that there exist irreducible unitary representations $π$ of $G$, which are admissible upon restriction to $G'$.
We present a new method for classifying naturally reductive homogeneous spaces -- i.\,e.~homogeneous Riemannian manifolds admitting a metric connection with skew torsion that has parallel torsion \emph{and} curvature. This method is based on a deeper understanding of the holonomy algebra of connections with parallel skew torsion on Riemannian manifolds and the interplay of such a connection with the geometric structure on the given Riemannian manifold. It allows to reproduce by easier arguments the known classifications in dimensions $3,4$, and $5$, and yields as a new result the classificatio…
In this paper, we begin with the classification of Harish-Chandra imprimitive representations in non-defining characteristic. We recall the connection of this problem to certain generalizations of Iwahori-Hecke algebras and show that Harish-Chandra induction is compatible with the Morita equivalence by Bonnafé and Rouquier, thus reducing the classification problem to quasi-isolated blocks. Afterwards, we consider imprimitivity of unipotent representations of certain classical groups. In the case of general linear and unitary groups, our reduction methods then lead to results for arbitrary Lusz…
We discuss progress towards the classification of irreducible admissible representations of reductive groups over non-archimedean local fields and the local Langlands correspondence. We also state some (partly conjectural) compatibility properties of the refined local Langlands correspondence.
This document contains tables with the classification of prehomogeneous modules for reductive algebraic groups with up to two simple factors due to Sato, Kimura and many others, as well as corresponding tables of the étale modules appearing in this list, determined by the author. It is intended as a convenient reference for examples of étale module for reductive algebraic group.
In this paper, we established the relationship among left-invariant flat connections on Lie groups, left-symmetric algebras, Frobenius Lie algebras and étale prehomogeneous vector spaces, gave a one-to-one correspondence between the left-symmetric Lie algebras with a right identity and the étale prehomogeneous vector spaces for a Lie group, and proved that, in essence, any left-symmetric structure on a reductive Lie algebra has a right identity, which implies that the classification of flat connections on a reductive Lie group $G$ amounts to that of étale prehomogeneous vector spaces for $G$. …
