In this paper, we investigate K-polystability on smooth complex Fano 4-folds with Lefschetz defect at least 2, focusing on the case of Lefschetz defect 3 and on Casagrande-Druel Fano 4-folds with Lefschetz defect 2. We show that exactly 5 of the 19 families of Fano 4-folds with Lefschetz defect 3 are K-polystable. Moreover, among 175 families of Casagrande-Druel Fano 4-folds with Lefschetz defect 2, we prove that 5 are K-polystable, while 132 are K-unstable.
Using the Abban-Zhuang theory and the classification of three-dimensional log smooth log Fano pairs due to Maeda, we prove that threefold log Fano pairs $(X, D)$ of Maeda type with reducible boundary $D$ are K-unstable, with four exceptions. We also correct several inaccuracies in Maeda's classification.
We prove the $K$-polystability of all smooth complex Fano threefolds admitting an effective action of $\text{SL}_2$ but not of a 2-torus or 3-torus. In particular, the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on varieties in the families (1.10), (1.15), (1.16), (1.17), (2.21), (2.27), (2.32), (3.13), (3.17), (3.25) and (4.6) of the Mori-Mukai classification of smooth Fano threefolds is proved.
We prove two new results on the K-polystability of Q-Fano varieties based on purely algebro-geometric arguments. The first one says that any K-semistable log Fano cone has a special degeneration to a uniquely determined K-polystable log Fano cone. As a corollary, we combine it with the differential-geometric results to complete the proof of Donaldson-Sun's Conjecture which says that the metric tangent cone of any close point appearing on a Gromov-Hausdorff limit of Kahler-Einstein Fano manifolds only depends on the algebraic structure of the singularity. The second result says that for any lo…
We give new proofs of the K-polystability of two smooth Fano threefolds. One of them is a~smooth divisor in $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^2$ of degree $(1,1,1)$, which is unique up to isomorphism. Another one is the~blow up of the complete intersection $$ \Big\{x_0x_3+x_1x_4+x_2x_5=x_0^2+ωx_1^2+ω^2x_2^2+\big(x_3^2+ωx_4^2+ω^2x_5^2\big)+\big(x_0x_3+ωx_1x_4+ω^2x_2x_5\big)\Big\}\subset\mathbb{P}^5 $$ in the conic cut out by $x_0=x_1=x_2=0$, where $ω$ is a~primitive cube root of unity.
We show that Fano 4-folds with Picard number 5 have Lefschetz defect 3 if and only if they are toric of combinatorial type K. We also find a characterization for such varieties in terms of Picard number of prime divisors. Moreover, we discuss classification results for 4-dimensional complex smooth projective varieties admitting some particular fiber type contractions.
This note is a short survey on the Lefschetz defect, an invariant of smooth Fano varieties that has been recently introduced; it is related to the Picard number rho(X) of X, and to the Picard number of prime divisors in X. We explain the definition of the Lefschetz defect delta(X) and its origin, the known results - mainly on the case delta(X)>1, and several examples, especially in dimensions 3 and 4. In particular, we explain how the results on the Lefschetz defect allow to recover the classification of Fano 3-folds with rho(X)>4, due to Mori and Mukai. We also review the known examples of Fa…
Let X be a smooth, complex Fano 4-fold, and rho(X) its Picard number. If X contains a prime divisor D with rho(X)-rho(D)>2, then either X is a product of del Pezzo surfaces, or rho(X)=5 or 6. In this setting, we completely classify the case where rho(X)=5; there are 6 families, among which one is new. We also deduce the classification of Fano 4-folds with rho(X)>4 with an elementary divisorial contraction sending a divisor to a curve.
Let X be a smooth, complex Fano variety, and delta(X) its Lefschetz defect. It is known that if delta(X) is at least 4, then X is isomorphic to a product SxT, where dim T=dim X-2. In this paper we prove a structure theorem for the case where delta(X)=3. We show that there exists a smooth Fano variety T with dim T=dim X-2 such that X is obtained from T with two possible explicit constructions; in both cases there is a P^2-bundle Z over T such that X is the blow-up of Z along three pairwise disjoint smooth, irreducible, codimension 2 subvarieties. Then we apply the structure theorem to Fano 4-fo…
