In this paper, we study the influence of the electric charge of Reissner-Nordstrom black hole on the dynamics of fine-grained entropy of Hawking radiation, collected in finite entangling regions. We demonstrate that for certain sizes of finite regions, it is always possible to choose a value of the charge such that no information paradox formulated for finite entangling regions arises. For the sake of completeness, we explore how entanglement islands influence the described picture. We find that at small values of the electric charge, there is a discontinuity in the entropy due to the disappearance of the island, and with increasing charge the island ceases to ever dominate throughout entire evolution.
We construct a new class of entanglement measures by extending the usual definition of Renyi entropy to include a chemical potential. These charged Renyi entropies measure the degree of entanglement in different charge sectors of the theory and are given by Euclidean path integrals with the insertion of a Wilson line encircling the entangling surface. We compute these entropies for a spherical entangling surface in CFT's with holographic duals, where they are related to entropies of charged black holes with hyperbolic horizons. We also compute charged Renyi entropies in free field theories.
By entangling soft massless particles one can create an arbitrarily large amount of entanglement entropy that carries an arbitrarily small amount of energy. Dropping this entropy into the black hole (b.h.) one can increase the b.h. entropy by an amount that violates Bekenstein bound or any other reasonable bound, leading to a version of b.h. information paradox that does not involve Hawking radiation. Among many proposed solutions of the standard b.h. information paradox with Hawking radiation, only a few can also resolve this version without the Hawking radiation. The assumption that both ver…
We test the proposal of arXiv:2012.11274 for the holographic computation of the charged moments and the resulting symmetry-resolved entanglement entropy in different excited states, as well as for two entangling intervals. Our holographic computations are performed in $U(1)$ Chern-Simons-Einstein-Hilbert gravity, and are confirmed by independent results in a conformal field theory at large central charge. In particular, we consider two classes of excited states, corresponding to charged and uncharged conical defects in AdS${}_3$. In the conformal field theory, these states are generated by the…
We study the information paradox for the eternal black hole with charges on a doubly-holographic model in general dimensions, where the charged black hole on a Planck brane is coupled to the baths on the conformal boundaries. In the case of weak tension, the brane can be treated as a probe such that its backreaction to the bulk is negligible. We analytically calculate the entanglement entropy of the radiation and obtain the Page curve with the presence of an island on the brane. For the near-extremal black holes, the growth rate is linear in the temperature. Taking both Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati…
The supersymmetric Rényi entropy across a spherical entangling surface in a $d$-dimensional SCFT with flavor defects is equivalent to a supersymmetric partition function on $\mathbb{H}^{d-1} \times \mathbb{S}^1$, which can be computed exactly using localization. We consider the holographically dual BPS solutions in $(d +1)$-dimensional matter coupled supergravity $(d = 3 , 5)$, which are charged hyperbolically sliced AdS black holes. We compute the renormalized on-shell action and the holographic supersymmetric Rényi entropy and show a perfect match with the field theory side. Our setup allows…
Rényi entropies, $S_n$, admit a natural generalization in the presence of global symmetries. These "charged Rényi entropies" are functions of the chemical potential $μ$ conjugate to the charge contained in the entangling region and reduce to the usual notions as $μ\rightarrow 0$. For $n=1$, this provides a notion of charged entanglement entropy. In this letter we prove that for a general $d (\geq 3)$-dimensional CFT, the leading correction to the uncharged entanglement entropy across a spherical entangling surface is quadratic in the chemical potential, positive definite, and universally contr…
We calculate the Rényi entropy $S_q(μ,λ)$, for a spherical entangling surface in CFT's with Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell holographic duals. Rényi entropies must obey some interesting inequalities by definition. However, for Gauss-Bonnet couplings $λ$, larger than a specific value, but still allowed by causality, we observe a violation of the inequality $\frac{\partial}{\partial q}\left({\frac{q - 1}{q}S_q(μ,λ)} \right) \ge 0$, which is related to the existence of negative entropy black holes, providing interesting restrictions in the bulk theory. Moreover, we find an interesting distinction o…
We consider the charged moments in $SL(3,\mathbb{R})$ higher spin holography, as well as in the dual two-dimensional conformal field theory with $W_3$ symmetry. For the vacuum state and a single entangling interval, we show that the $W_3$ algebra of the conformal field theory induces an entanglement $W_3$ algebra acting on the quantum state in the entangling interval. The algebra contains a spin 3 modular charge which commutes with the modular Hamiltonian. The reduced density matrix is characterized by the modular energy and modular charge, hence our definition of the charged moments is also w…
In this paper, we study the Hawking tunneling radiation of the charged rotating black hole in five-dimensional minimal supergravity theory by using the semiclassical Hamilton-Jacobi equation. By using two separated ways we obtain the corrected entropy of the black hole. Equality of results gives us a special condition that may solve the information loss paradox. Then, we focus on the phase transitions, and the results show that if the effects of thermal fluctuations are incorporated in the entropy, the black hole is unstable, while there are phase transitions according to the sign-changing beh…
We construct and analyze holographic superconductors with generalized higher derivative couplings, in single R-charged black hole backgrounds in four and five dimensions. These systems, which we call very general holographic superconductors, have multiple tuning parameters and are shown to exhibit a rich phase structure. We establish the phase diagram numerically as well as by computing the free energy, and then validated the results by calculating the entanglement entropy for these systems. The entanglement entropy is shown to be a perfect indicator of the phase diagram. The differences in th…
We analytically study phase transitions of holographic charged Renyi entropies in two gravitational systems dual to the $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory at finite density and zero temperature. The first system is the Reissner-Nordstrom-AdS$_5$ black hole, which has finite entropy at zero temperature. The second system is a charged dilatonic black hole in AdS$_5$, which has zero entropy at zero temperature. Hyperbolic black holes are employed to calculate the Renyi entropies with the entangling surface being a sphere. We perturb each system by a charged scalar field, and look for a zero …

We consider symmetry-resolved entanglement entropy in AdS${}_3$/CFT${}_2$ coupled to $U(1)$ Chern-Simons theory. We identify the holographic dual of the charged moments in the two-dimensional conformal field theory as a charged Wilson line in the bulk of AdS${}_3$, namely the Ryu-Takayanagi geodesic minimally coupled to the $U(1)$ Chern-Simons gauge field. We identify the holonomy around the Wilson line as the Aharonov-Bohm phases which, in the two-dimensional field theory, are generated by charged $U(1)$ vertex operators inserted at the endpoints of the entangling interval. Furthermore, we de…
The growth of the "size" of operators is an important diagnostic of quantum chaos. In arXiv:1802.01198 [hep-th] it was conjectured that the holographic dual of the size is proportional to the average radial component of the momentum of the particle created by the operator. Thus the growth of operators in the background of a black hole corresponds to the acceleration of the particle as it falls toward the horizon. In this note we will use the momentum-size correspondence as a tool to study scrambling in the field of a near-extremal charged black hole. The agreement with previous work provides a…
Classically, black holes admit maximal interior volumes that grow asymptotically linearly in time. We show that such volumes remain large when Hawking evaporation is taken into account. Even if a charged black hole approaches the extremal limit during this evolution, its volume continues to grow; although an exactly extremal black hole does not have a "large interior". We clarify this point and discuss the implications of our results to the information loss and firewall paradoxes.
Firewalls are controversial principally because they seem to imply departures from general relativistic expectations in regions of spacetime where the curvature need not be particularly large. One of the virtues of the Harlow-Hayden approach to the firewall paradox, concerning the time available for decoding of Hawking radiation emanating from charged AdS black holes, is precisely that it operates in the context of cold black holes, which are not strongly curved outside the event horizon. Here we clarify this point. The approach is based on ideas borrowed from applications of the AdS/CFT corre…
The evolution of evaporating charged black holes is complicated to model in general, but is nevertheless important since the hints to the Information Loss Paradox and its recent firewall incarnation may lie in understanding more generic geometries than that of Schwarzschild spacetime. Fortunately, for sufficiently large asymptotically flat Reissner-Nordstrom black holes, the evaporation process can be modeled via a system of coupled linear ordinary differential equations, with charge loss rate governed by Schwinger pair-production process. The same model can be generalized to study the evapora…
We investigate the energy distribution of a black hole in various spacetimes as reckoned by a distant observer using the quasi-local energy approach. In each case the horizon mass of a black hole: neutral, charged or rotating, is found to be twice the irreducible mass observed at infinity. This is known as the Horizon Mass Theorem. As a consequence, the electrostatic energy and the rotational energy of a general black hole are all external quantities. Matter carrying charges and spins could only lie outside the horizon. This result could resolve several long-standing paradoxes related to known…
Two seemingly distinct notions regarding black holes have captured the imagination of theoretical physicists over the past decade: First, black holes are conjectured to be fast scramblers of information, a notion that is further supported through connections to quantum chaos and decay of mutual information via AdS/CFT holography. Second, black hole information paradox has motivated exotic quantum structure near horizons of black holes (e.g., gravastars, fuzzballs, or firewalls) that may manifest themselves through delayed gravitational wave echoes in the aftermath of black hole formation or me…
In this paper, the curvature structure of a (2+1)-dimensional black hole in the massive-charged-Born-Infeld gravity is investigated. The metric that we consider is characterized by four degrees of freedom which are the mass and electric charge of the black hole, the mass of the graviton field, and a cosmological constant. For the charged and neutral cases separately, we present various constraints among scalar polynomial curvature invariants which could invariantly characterize our desired spacetimes. Specially, an appropriate scalar polynomial curvature invariant and a Cartan curvature invari…
We propose a novel solution for the endpoint of gravitational collapse, in which spacetime ends (and is orbifolded) at a microscopic distance from black hole event horizons. This model is motivated by the emergence of singular event horizons in the gravitational aether theory, a semi-classical solution to the cosmological constant problem(s), and thus suggests a catastrophic breakdown of general relativity close to black hole event horizons. A similar picture emerges in fuzzball models of black holes in string theory, as well as the recent firewall proposal to resolve the information paradox. …
