In previous work "Betweenness algebras" we introduced and examined the class of betweenness algebras. In the current paper we study a larger class of algebras with binary operators of possibility and sufficiency, the weak mixed algebras. Furthermore, we develop a system of logic with two binary modalities, sound and complete with respect to the class of frames closely related to the aforementioned algebras, and we prove an embedding theorem which solves an open problem from "Betweenness algebras".
In this paper, we present a propositional logic (called mixed logic) containing disjoint copies of minimal, intuitionistic and classical logics. We prove a completeness theorem for this logic with respect to a Kripke semantics. We establish some relations between mixed logic and minimal, intuitionistic and classical logics. We present at the end a sequent calculus version for this logic.
Mixed logic-systems contain both standard and nonstandard coordinate values. In this paper, it is shown that each of the specifically defined mixed logic-systems generates an internal nonstandard consequence operator.
Continuing [Fuchino, Ottenbreit and Sakai[9, 10]] and [Fuchino and Ottenbreit[11]], we further study reflection principles in connection with the Löwenheim-Skolem Theorems of stationary logics. In this paper, we mainly analyze the situations in the models obtained by mixed support iteration of a supercompact length and then collapsing another supercompact cardinal to make it $(2^{\aleph_0})^+$. We show, among other things, that the reflection down to $< 2^{\aleph_0}$ of the non-metrizability of topological spaces with small character is independent from the reflection properties studied in [Fu…
In 1990 J-L. Krivine introduced the notion of storage operators. They are $λ$-terms which simulate call-by-value in the call-by-name strategy and they can be used in order to modelize assignment instructions. J-L. Krivine has shown that there is a very simple second order type in AF2 type system for storage operators using Gödel translation of classical to intuitionistic logic. In order to modelize the control operators, J-L. Krivine has extended the system AF2 to the classical logic. In his system the property of the unicity of integers representation is lost, but he has shown that storage op…
In this paper, we present a propositional sequent calculus containing disjoint copies of classical and intuitionistic logics. We prove a cut-elimination theorem and we establish a relation between this system and linear logic.
I show that the logic $\textsf{TJK}^{d+}$, one of the strongest logics currently known to support the naive theory of truth, is obtained from the Kripke semantics for constant domain intuitionistic logic by (i) dropping the requirement that the accessibility relation is reflexive and (ii) only allowing reflexive worlds to serve as counterexamples to logical consequence. In addition, I provide a simplified natural deduction system for $\textsf{TJK}^{d+}$, in which a restricted form of conditional proof is used to establish conditionals.
This paper presents rules in sequent calculus for a binary quantifier $I$ to formalise definite descriptions: $Ix[F, G]$ means `The $F$ is $G$'. The rules are suitable to be added to a system of positive free logic. The paper extends the proof of a cut elimination theorem for this system by Indrzejczak by proving the cases for the rules of $I$. There are also brief comparisons of the present approach to the more common one that formalises definite descriptions with a term forming operator. In the final section rules for $I$ for negative free and classical logic are also mentioned.
This paper presents a formal theory which describes propositional binary logic as a semantically closed formal language, and allows for syntactically and semantically well-formed formulae, formal proofs (demonstrability in Hilbertian acception), deduction (Gentzen's view of demonstrability), CNF-ization, and deconstruction to be expressed and tested in the same (computational) formal language, using the same data structure. It is also shown here that Cognitive Binary Logic is a self-described theory in which the Liar Paradox is deconstructed.
De Rijke introduced a unary interpretability logic $\mathbf{il}$, and proved that $\mathbf{il}$ is the unary counterpart of the binary interpretability logic $\mathbf{IL}$. In this paper, we find the unary counterparts of the sublogics of $\mathbf{IL}$.
This paper presents a way of formalising definite descriptions with a binary quantifier $ι$, where $ιx[F, G]$ is read as `The $F$ is $G$'. Introduction and elimination rules for $ι$ in a system of intuitionist negative free logic are formulated. Procedures for removing maximal formulas of the form $ιx[F, G]$ are given, and it is shown that deductions in the system can be brought into normal form.
The topos approach to the formulation of physical theories includes a new form of quantum logic. We present this topos quantum logic, including some new results, and compare it to standard quantum logic, all with an eye to conceptual issues. In particular, we show that topos quantum logic is distributive, multi-valued, contextual and intuitionistic. It incorporates superposition without being based on linear structures, has a built-in form of coarse-graining which automatically avoids interpretational problems usually associated with the conjunction of propositions about incompatible physical …
We introduce the notion of logical A-games for a fairly general class of algebras A of real truth-values. This concept generalizes the Boolean games of Harrenstein et al. as well as the recently defined Lukasiewicz games of Marchioni and Wooldridge. We demonstrate that a wide range of strategic n-player games can be represented as logical A-games. Moreover we show how to construct, under rather general conditions, propositional formulas in the language of A that correspond to pure and mixed Nash equilibria of logical A-games.

The relation between self awareness and intelligence is an open problem these days. Despite the fact that self awarness is usually related to Emotional Intelligence, this is not the case here. The problem described in this paper is how to model an agent which knows (Cognitive) Binary Logic and which is also able to pass (without any mistake) a certain family of Turing Tests designed to verify its knowledge and its discourse about the modal states of truth corresponding to well-formed formulae within the language of Propositional Binary Logic.
It is a celebrated result of McKinsey and Tarski [28] that S4 is the logic of the closure algebra X+ over any dense-in-itself separable metrizable space. In particular, S4 is the logic of the closure algebra over the reals R, the rationals Q, or the Cantor space C. By [5], each logic above S4 that has the finite model property is the logic of a subalgebra of Q+, as well as the logic of a subalgebra of C+. This is no longer true for R, and the main result of [5] states that each connected logic above S4 with the finite model property is the logic of a subalgebra of the closure algebra R+. In th…
Given a consequence relation in many-valued logic, what connectives can be defined? For instance, does there always exist a conditional operator internalizing the consequence relation, and which form should it take? In this paper, we pose this question in a multi-premise multi-conclusion setting for the class of so-called intersective mixed consequence relations, which extends the class of Tarskian relations. Using computer-aided methods, we answer extensively for 3-valued and 4-valued logics, focusing not only on conditional operators, but on what we call Gentzen-regular connectives (includin…
In recent work, semantic games of independence-friendly logic were studied in strategic form in terms of (mixed strategy) Nash equilibria. The class of strategic games of independence-friendly logic is contained in the class of win-loss, zero-sum two-player games. In this note we draw on the theory of linear programming to develop tools to analyze the value of such games. We give two applications of these tools to independence-friendly logic under the so-called equilibrium semantics.
Amalgamation SNP (ASNP) is a fragment of existential second-order logic that strictly contains binary connected MMSNP of Feder and Vardi and binary guarded monotone SNP of Bienvenu, ten Cate, Lutz, and Wolter; it is a promising candidate for an expressive subclass of NP that exhibits a complexity dichotomy. We show that ASNP has a complexity dichotomy if and only if the infinite-domain dichotomy conjecture holds for constraint satisfaction problems for first-order reducts of binary finitely bounded homogeneous structures. For such CSPs, powerful universal-algebraic hardness conditions are know…
This work presents an operational and geometric approach to logic. It starts from the multilinear elective decomposition of binary logical functions in the original form introduced by George Boole. A justification on historical grounds is presented bridging Boole's theory and the use of his arithmetical logical functions with the axioms of Boolean algebra using sets and quantum logic. It is shown that this algebraic polynomial formulation can be naturally extended to operators in finite vector spaces. Logical operators will appear as commuting projection operators and the truth values, which t…
