We consider isospin-asymmetric matter in the parity-doublet model within an extended mean-field calculation, increasing continuously the neutron excess all the way to pure neutron matter. We compute the liquid-gas and the chiral phase transitions occurring at zero to moderate temperatures, but put special emphasis on the phase structure of matter at zero temperature and large baryon densities. The calculation of the free energy involves the solution of gap equations. This is achieved by transforming these gap equations into ordinary differential equations that control the flow with increasing baryon density of various physical quantities: the isoscalar condensate, the densities of protons and neutrons, as well as those of their respective chiral partners. In this formulation, the initial conditions for the differential equations determine the entire phase structure. It is further demonstrated that the threshold for the onset of the population of the chiral partners is exclusively determined by the fermionic parameters, most notably by the chiral-invariant mass of the nucleon. We underline the role of a parity symmetry energy in driving the equilibration of the nucleons and their parity partners across the chiral transition. We provide a detailed analysis of the changes in the matter properties as one varies the neutron excess, including a special discussion of the chiral limit, and we compare systematically the parity-doublet model to its corresponding singlet model, where the chiral partner of the nucleon is neglected. Finally, we focus on neutron matter and compute the equation of state and the speed of sound. The results are confronted to those of other calculations as well as to recent Bayesian analyses of neutron-star observations.
Within the parity doublet model coupled to the linear sigma model including vector mesons it is possible to describe vacuum properties of the low energy mesons and to achieve nuclear saturation at nonzero density. Motivated by recent studies we investigate the emergence of inhomogeneous condensation in the parity doublet model. As a first step the chiral density wave (CDW) is con- sidered, which allows for a straightforward investigation of inhomogeneous condensation. As a result it is still possible to have a homogeneous ground state of nuclear matter, but at larger baryon chemical potential …
We study the Dual Chiral Density Wave (DCDW) in nuclear matter using a hadronic model with the parity doublet structure. We first extend the ordinary DCDW ansatz so as to incorporate the effect of an explicit chiral symmetry breaking. Then via numerically evaluating and minimizing the effective potential, we determine the phase structure. We find, in addition to the ordinary DCDW phase where the space average of the chiral condensate vanishes, a new DCDW phase (sDCDW) with a nonvanishing space average depending on the value of the chiral invariant mass parameter.
We investigate the role of a scalar tetraquark state for the description of nuclear matter within the parity doublet model in the mirror assignment. In the dilatation-invariant version of the model a nucleon-nucleon interaction term mediated by the lightest scalar tetraquark field naturally emerges. At nonzero density one has, beyond the usual chiral condensate, also a tetraquark condensate. The behavior of both condensates and the restoration of chiral symmetry at high density are studied. It is shown that this additional scalar degree of freedom affects non negligibly the properties of the m…
We improve so called ``naive'' and ``mirror'' models for the positive and negative parity nucleons, $N$ and $N^{*}$, by introducing nonlinear terms allowed by chiral symmetry. Both models in this improvement reproduce the observed nucleon axial charge in free space and reveal interesting density dependence of the axial charges for $N$ and $N^*$, and the doublet masses. A remarkable difference between the two models is found in the off-diagonal axial charge, $g_{ANN^*}$, which could appear either as suppression or as enhancement of $N^* \to πN$ decay in the medium.
We study thermodynamics of nuclear matter in a two-flavored parity doublet model within the mean field approximation. Parameters of the model are chosen to reproduce correctly the properties of the nuclear ground state. The model predicts two phase transitions in nuclear matter, a liquid-gas phase transition at normal nuclear density and a chiral transition at higher density. At finite temperature the pion decay constant exhibits a considerable reduction at intermediate values of chemical potential, which is traced back to the presence of the liquid-gas transition, and approaches zero at highe…
We construct nuclear matter based on an extended parity doublet model including four light nucleons $N(939)$, $N(1440)$, $N(1535)$, and $N(1650)$. We exclude some values of the chiral invariant masses by requiring the saturation properties of normal nuclear matter; saturation density, binding energy, incompressibility, and symmetry energy. We find further constraint to the chiral invariant masses from the tidal deformability determined by the observation of the gravitational waves from neutron star merger GW170817. Our result shows that the chiral invariant masses are larger than about $600\,$…
It has recently been suggested that the parity doublet structure seen in the spectrum of highly excited baryons may be due to effective chiral restoration for these states. We argue how the idea of chiral symmetry restoration high in the spectrum is consistent with the concept of quark-hadron duality. If chiral symmetry is effectively restored for highly-lying states, then the baryons should fall into representations of $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$ that are compatible with the given parity of the states - the parity-chiral multiplets. We classify all possible parity-chiral multiplets: (i) $(1/2,0)\…

A nucleus with octupole deformation of the mean field reveals rotational doublets with the same angular momentum and opposite parity. Mediated by the Coriolis-type interaction, the doublet structure leads to a strong regular component in the parity violation caused by weak interaction. This can explain sign correlations observed in polarized neutron scattering by $^{232}$Th.
We discuss the implications of a doorway state model for parity mixing in compound nuclear states. We argue that in order to explain the tendency of parity violating asymmetries measured in $^{233}$Th to have a common sign, doorways that contribute to parity mixing must be found in the same energy neighbourhood of the measured resonance. The mechanism of parity mixing in this case of nearby doorways is closely related to the intermediate structure observed in nuclear reactions in which compound states are excited. We note that in the region of interest ($^{233}$Th) nuclei exhibit octupole defo…
We construct a model to describe dense hadronic matter at zero and finite temperature, based on the parity doublet model of DeTar and Kunihiro, with including the iso-singlet scalar meson $σ$ as well as $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons. We show that, by including a six-point interaction of $σ$ meson, the model reasonably reproduces the properties of the normal nuclear matter with the chiral invariant nucleon mass $m_0$ in the range from $500~{\rm MeV}$ to $900~{\rm MeV}$. Furthermore, we study the phase diagram based on the model, which shows that the value of the chiral condensate drops at the liquid-gas p…
Finite-volume effects for the nucleon chiral partners are studied within the framework of the parity-doublet model. Our model includes the vacuum energy shift for nucleons, which is the Casimir effect. We find that for the antiperiodic boundary the finite-volume effect leads to chiral symmetry restoration, and the masses of the nucleon parity doublets degenerate. For the periodic boundary, the chiral symmetry breaking is enhanced, and the masses of the nucleons also increase. We also discuss the finite-temperature effect and the dependence on the number of compactified spatial dimensions.
We studied the ground and excited states properties for Zr isotopes starting^M from proton to neutron drip-lines using the relativistic and non-relativistic mean field formalisms with BCS and Bogolyubov pairing. The celebrity NL3 and SLy4 parameter sets are used in the calculations. We find spherical ground and low-lying^M superdeformed excited states in most of the isotopes. Several couples of^M $Ω^π=1/2^{\pm}$ parity doublets configurations are found,^M while analyzing the single-particle energy levels of the superdeformed ^M configurations.
We investigate the properties of isospin-symmetric nuclear matter and neutron stars in a chiral model approach adopting the SU(2) parity doublet formulation. This ansatz explicitly incorporates chiral symmetry restoration with the limit of degenerate masses of the nucleons and their parity partners. Instead of searching for an optimized parameter set we explore the general parameter dependence of nuclear matter and star properties in the model. We are able to get a good description of ground state nuclear matter as well as large values of mass for neutron stars in agreement with observation.
It is argued that an appearance of the near parity doublets in the upper part of the light baryon spectrum is an evidence for the chiral symmetry restoration in the regime where a typical momentum of quarks is around the chiral symmetry restoration scale. At high enough baryon excitation energy the nontrivial gap solution, which signals the chiral symmetry breaking regime, disappears and the chiral symmetry should be restored. Thus one observes a phase transition in the upper part of the light baryon spectrum. The average kinetic energy of the constituent quarks in this region is just around t…
We study nucleon structure with positive and negative parities using a parity doublet model endowed with hidden local symmetry (HLS) with the objective to probe dense baryonic matter. The model -- that we shall refer to as "PDHLS model" for short -- allows a chiral-invariant mass of the nucleons unconnected to spontaneously broken chiral symmetry which comes out to be m_0 ~ 200 MeV at tree level from fitting to the decay width of the parity doubler, N(1535), to nucleon-pion and nucleon axial coupling g_A=1.267. The presence of a substantial m_0 that remains non-vanishing at chiral restoration …
We investigate the properties of dense matter and neutron stars. In particular we discuss model calculations based on the parity doublet picture of hadronic chiral symmetry. In this ansatz the onset of chiral symmetry restoration is reflected by the degeneracy of baryons and their parity partners. In this approach we also incorporate quarks as degrees of freedom to be able to study hybrid stars.
We construct an equation of state (EOS) for neutron stars by interpolating hadronic EOS at low density and quark EOS at high density. A hadronic model based on the parity doublet structure is used for hadronic matter and a quark model of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type is for quark matter. We assume crossover between hadronic matter and quark matter in the the color-flavor locked phase. The nucleon mass of the parity doublet model has a mass associated with the chiral symmetry breaking, and a chiral invariant mass $m_0$ which is insensitive to the chiral condensate. The value of $m_0$ affects the nuc…
We study masses and decay widths of positive and negative parity nucleons using a three-flavor parity doublet model, in which we introduce three representations, $\left[({\bf 3} , \bar{\bf 3})\oplus (\bar{\bf 3} , {\bf 3})\right]$, $\left[({\bf 3} , {\bf 6}) \oplus ({\bf 6}, {\bf 3})\right]$, and $\left[({\bf 8} , {\bf 1}) \oplus ({\bf 1} , {\bf 8})\right]$ of the chiral U$(3)_{\rm L}\times$U$(3)_{\rm R}$ symmetry. We find an extended version of the Goldberger-Treiman relation among the mass differences and the coupling constants for pionic transitions. This relation leads to an upper bound fo…
We study dense nuclear matter and the chiral phase transition in a SU(2) parity doublet model at zero temperature. The model is defined by adding the chiral partner of the nucleon, the N', to the linear sigma model, treating the mass of the N' as an unknown free parameter. The parity doublet model gives a reasonable description of the properties of cold nuclear matter, and avoids unphysical behaviour present in the standard SU(2) linear sigma model. If the N' is identified as the N'(1535), the parity doublet model shows a first order phase transition to a chirally restored phase at large densi…
In this contribution, we summarize our recent studies on the chiral invariant mass and the chiral condensates in neutron star matter. We construct a unified equations of state assuming the crossover phase transition from hadronic matter described by a parity doublet model to quark matter by an Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type quark model. We first show that the chiral invariant mass is constrained to be 600 MeV $\lesssim m_0 \lesssim$ 900 MeV from recent observations of neutron stars. We then determine the density dependence of the chiral condensate in the crossover description, and show that the chir…
The experimental features of positive-parity doublet bands in the odd-\emph{A} cesium isotopes $^{125,127,129,131}$Cs, including angular momentum alignment, energy staggering, $B(M1)/B(E2)$ etc. are studied systematically and compared to those of the candidate chiral bands in the adjacent odd-odd Cs isotopes. The configuration assignments and the dynamics of these bands are discussed. The self-consistent tilted axis cranking relativistic mean-field calculations are performed with configuration reassigned to these bands. The experimental level schemes of four nuclei are well reproduced, and the…

A new transport code "DaeJeon Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (DJBUU)" had been developed and enables to describe the dynamics of heavy-ion collisions in low-energy region. To confirm the validity of the new code, we first calculate Au + Au collisions at Ebeam = 100 and 400A MeV and also perform the box calculation to check the detail of collisions and Pauli blocking without mean-field potential as suggested by the Transport Code Comparison Project. After confirming the validity of new transport code, we study low-energy heavy-ion collisions with an extended parity doublet model. Since the distinc…
A reflection-asymmetric triaxial particle rotor model (RAT-PRM) with a quasi-proton and a quasi-neutron coupled with a reflection-asymmetric triaxial rotor is developed and applied to investigate the multiple chiral doublet (M$χ$D) bands candidates with octupole correlations in $^{78}$Br. The calculated excited energies, energy staggering parameters, and $B(M1)/B(E2)$ ratios are in a reasonable agreement with the data of the chiral doublet bands with positive- and negative-parity. The influence of the triaxial deformation $γ$ on the calculated $B(E1)$ is found to be significant. By changing $γ…
Based on the reflection-asymmetric Nilsson potential, the parity-doublet rotational bands in odd-$A$ isotones \element{237}U and \element{239}Pu have been investigated by using the particle-number-conserving (PNC) method in the framework of the cranked shell model (CSM). The experimental kinematic moments of inertia (MOIs) and angular momentum alignments are reproduced very well by the PNC-CSM calculations. The significant differences of rotational properties between \element{237}U and \element{239}Pu are explained with the contribution of nucleons occupying proton octupole-correlation pairs o…
We discuss the properties of the nucleon (N) and its excited state with odd parity (N*) under the aspect of chiral symmetry, identifying them with suitable representations of the chiral group. It is shown that there are two distinctive schemes to assign the chiral multiplet to N and N*. We construct linear sigma models for N and N* with the two assignments to show their physical implications. We also discuss the in-medium properties of N(1535), comparing the present model with the other chiral model based on the different picture of N*.
The Quark-Hadron Chiral Parity-Doublet model (Q$χ$P) is applied to calculate compact star properties in the presence of a deconfinement phase transition. Within this model, a consistent description of nuclear matter properties, chiral symmetry restoration, and a transition from hadronic to quark and gluonic degrees of freedom is possible within one unified approach. We find that the equation of state obtained is consistent with recent perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD) results and is able to accommodate observational constraints of massive and small neutron stars. Furthermore, we show t…
We apply an extended version of the SU(3) parity model, containing quark degrees of freedom, to study neutron stars. The model successfully reproduces the main thermodynamic features of QCD which allows us to describe the composition of dense matter. Chiral symmetry restoration is realized inside the star and the chiral partners of the baryons appear, their masses becoming degenerate. Furthermore, quark degrees of freedom appear in a transition to a deconfined state. Performing an investigation of the macroscopic properties of neutron stars, we show that observational constraints, like mass an…
The equation of state of beta-stable and charge neutral nucleonic matter is computed within the SU(2) parity doublet model in mean field and in the relativistic Hartree approximation. The mass of the chiral partner of the nucleon is assumed to be 1200 MeV. The transition to the chiral restored phase turns out to be a smooth crossover in all the cases considered, taking place at a baryon density of just $2ρ_0$. The mass-radius relations of compact stars are calculated to constrain the model parameters from the maximum mass limit of neutron stars. It is demonstrated that chiral symmetry starts t…
The $γ$-circular polarizations ($P_γ$) and asymmetries ($A_γ$) of the parity forbidden M1 + E2 $γ$-decays: $^{36}Cl^{\ast} (J^π = 2^{-}; T = 1; E_{x} = 1.95 $ MeV) $\rightarrow$ $^{36}Cl (J^π = 2^{+}; T = 1; g.s.)$ and $^{36}Ar^{\ast} (J^π = 2^{-}; T = 0; E_{x} = 4.97 $ MeV) $\rightarrow$ $^{36}Ar^{\ast} (J^π = 2^{+}; T = 0; E_{x} = 1.97 $ MeV) are investigated theoretically. We use the recently proposed Warburton-Becker-Brown shell-model interaction. For the weak forces we discuss comparatively different weak interaction models based on different assumptions for evaluating the weak meson-hadr…

We review the chiral variant and invariant components of nucleon masses and its consequence on the chiral restoration in extreme conditions, neutron star matter in particular. We consider a model of linear realization of chiral symmetry with the nucleon parity doublet structure that permits the chiral invariant mass, $m_0$, for positive and negative parity nucleons. Nuclear matter is constructed with the parity doublet nucleon model coupled to scalar fields $σ$, vector fields $(ω, ρ)$, and to mesons with strangeness through the U(1)$_A$ anomaly. In models with large $m_0$, the nucleon mass is …
The structure of Ne, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P and S nuclei near the neutron drip-line region is investigated in the frame-work of relativistic mean field theory and non-relativistic Skyrme Hartree-Fock formalism. The recently discovered nuclei $^{40}$Mg and $^{42}$Al, which are beyond the drip-line predicted by various mass formulae are located within these models. We find many largely deformed neutron-rich nuclei, whose structures are analyzed. From the structure anatomy, we find that at large deformation, low $Ω$ orbits of opposite parities (e.g. $\frac{1}{2}^+$ and $\frac{1}{2}^-$) occur close to …
Physics of the low-lying and high-lying hadrons in the light flavors sector is reviewed. While the low-lying hadrons are strongly affected by both $U(1)_A$ and spontaneous $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ breakings, in the high-lying hadrons these symmetries are restored. A manifestation is a persistence of the chiral multiplet structure in both baryon and meson spectra. A fundamental origin of this phenomenon is that effects of quantum fluctuations of both quark and gluon fields must vanish at large $n$ or $J$ and a semiclassical description becomes adequate. A relation between the chiral symmetry re…
A reflection-asymmetric triaxial particle rotor model with three quasiparticles and a reflection-asymmetric triaxial rotor is developed, and applied to investigate the observed multiple chiral doublets (M\c{hi}D) candidates with octupole correlations in 131Ba, i.e., two pairs of positive-parity bands D3-D4 and D5-D6, as well as one pair of negative-parity bands D7-D8. The energy spectra, the energy staggering parameters, the B(M1)/B(E2) ratios, and the B(E1)/B(E2) ratios are reproduced well. The chiral geometries for these M\c{hi}D candidates are examined by the azimuthal plots, and the evolut…
We study the chiral condensates in neutron star matter from nuclear to quark matter domain. We describe nuclear matter with a parity doublet model (PDM), quark matter with the Nambu--Jona-Lasino (NJL) model, and a matter at the intermediate density by interpolating nuclear and quark matter equations of state. The model parameters are constrained by nuclear physics and neutron star observations. Various condensates in the interpolated domain are estimated from the chemical potential dependence of the condensates at the boundaries of the interpolation. The use of the PDM with substantial chiral …
Based on the reported positive-parity doublet bands in $^{120}$I, the corresponding experimental characteristics including rotational alignment have been discussed and corresponding configuration assignment is reexamined. The self-consistent tilted axis cranking relativistic mean-field calculations indicates that this doublet bands is built on configuration $πh_{11/2}\otimes νh ^{-1}_{11/2}$. In addition, adopting the two quasiparticles coupled with a triaxial rotor model, the excitation energies, energy staggering parameter $S(I)$, $B(M1)/B(E2)$, effective angles, and $K$ $plots$ have been di…
The positive parity doublet bands based on the $πh_{11/2}\otimesνh_{11/2}$ configuration in $^{126}$Cs have been investigated in the two quasi-particles coupled with a triaxial rotor model. The energy spectra $E(I)$, energy staggering parameter $S(I)=[E(I)-E(I-1)]/2I$, $B(M1)$ and $B(E2)$ values, intraband $B(M1)/B(E2)$ ratios, $B(M1)_{\textrm{in}}/B(M1)_{\textrm{out}}$ ratios, and orientation of the angular momentum for the rotor as well as the valence proton and neutron are calculated. After including the pairing correlation, good agreement has been obtained between the calculated results an…
We examine the role of the $U(1)_A$ anomaly in a parity doublet model of nucleons which include the chiral variant and invariant masses. Our model expresses the $U(1)_A$ anomaly by the Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t\,Hooft (KMT) interaction in the mesonic sector. After examining the roles of the KMT term in vacuum, we discuss its impacts on nuclear equations of state (EOS). The $U(1)_A$ anomaly increases the masses of the $η'$ and $σ$ mesons and enhances the chiral symmetry breaking. The $U(1)_A$ anomaly enlarges the energy difference between chiral symmetric and symmetry broken vacuum; in turn, the chi…
Excited states of $^4$He are studied in four-body calculations with explicitly correlated Gaussian bases. All the levels below $E_{\rm x}$=26 MeV are reproduced reasonably well using realistic potentials. An analysis is made to show how the $0^+_2$ state becomes a resonance but those having almost the same structure as this state in different spin-isospin channels are not observed as resonances. The role of tensor force is stressed with a particular attention to the level spacing between the two $0^-$ states. The calculation of spectroscopic amplitudes, nucleon decay widths, and spin-dipole tr…
[Background] Various cluster states of astrophysical interest are expected to exist in the excited states of $^{28}{\rm Si}$. However, they have not been identified firmly, because of the experimental and theoretical difficulties. [Purpose] To establish the $^{24}$Mg+$α$, $^{16}$O+$^{12}$C and $^{20}$Ne+2$α$ cluster bands, we theoretically search for the negative-parity cluster bands that are paired with the positive-parity bands to constitute the inversion doublets. We also offer the isoscalar monopole and dipole transitions as a promising probe for the clustering. We numerically show that th…
It has recently been suggested that the observed structure of parity doublets, seen in the spectrum of highly excited baryons, may be due to the effective restoration of chiral symmetry for these states. This chiral symmetry restoration high in the spectrum is consistent with the concept of quark-hadron duality. Moreover, if QCD dynamics implies the linear Regge trajectories for highly excited baryons, then the MacDowell symmetry requires the parity doubling to appear, which shows that linear Regge trajectories and chiral symmetry restoration are well compatible. On the contrary, in the low-en…
One new pair of positive-parity chiral doublet bands have been identified in the odd-$A$ nucleus $^{135}$Nd which together with the previously reported negative-parity chiral doublet bands constitute a third case of multiple chiral doublet (M$χ$D) bands in the $A\approx130$ mass region. The properties of the M$χ$D bands are well reproduced by constrained covariant density functional theory and particle rotor model calculations. The newly observed M$χ$D bands in $^{135}$Nd represents an important milestone in supporting the existence of M$χ$D in nuclei.
The negative parity bands in $^{220}$Th are analyzed within the dinuclear system model which was previously used for describing the alternating-parity bands in deformed actinides. The model is based on the assumption that cluster type shapes are produced by the motion of nuclear system in the mass-asymmetry coordinate. To describe the reflection-asymmetric collective modes characterized by nonzero values of $K$, the intrinsic excitations of clusters are taken into account. The angular momentum dependence of the parity splitting and the staggering behavior of the $B(E1)/B(E2)$ ratios as functio…
The model of coherent quadrupole and octupole motion (CQOM) is applied to describe non-yrast split parity-doublet spectra in odd-mass nuclei. The yrast levels are described as low-energy rotation-vibration modes coupled to the ground single-particle (s.p.) state, while the non-yrast parity-doublet structures are obtained as higher-energy rotation-vibration modes coupled to excited s.p. states. It is shown that the extended model scheme describes both the yrast and non-yrast quasi parity-doublet spectra and the related B(E1) and B(E2) transition rates in different regions of heavy odd-A nuclei.…
The chiral doublets for nuclei in $A\sim100$ and $A\sim130$ regions have been studied with the particle-rotor model. The experimental spectra of chiral partners bands for four N=75 isotones in $A\sim130$ region have been well reproduced by the calculation with the configuration $πh_{11/2}\otimesνh_{11/2}^{-1}$. The possible chiral doublets in $A\sim100$ region have been predicted by the PRM model with the configuration $πg_{9/2}\otimesνg_{9/2}^{-1}$ based on the analysis of the spectra, the $ω$-I relation, the $B(M1)$ and $B(E2)$ transition probabilities, and the structure of the wave function…
