The possibility to reanalyse data taken by the HERA experiments offers the chance to study modern QCD jet and event-shape observables in deep-inelastic scattering production. In this contribution we present resummed and matched predictions for the groomed invariant-mass event shape in neutral-current DIS including the effect of grooming the hadronic final state using the soft-drop technique. Non-perturbative corrections from hadronisation are taken into account through parton-to-hadron level transfer matrices extracted from dedicated Monte Carlo simulations with SHERPA, including uncertainties extracted from replica tunes to data from the HERA experiments.
We present predictions of the distribution of groomed heavy jet mass in electron-positron collisions at the next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy matched with the resummation of large logarithms to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Resummation at this accuracy is possible through extraction of necessary two-loop constants and three-loop anomalous dimensions from fixed-order codes.
Jet grooming has emerged as a necessary and powerful tool in a precision jet physics program. In this paper, we present three results on jet grooming in perturbation theory, focusing on heavy jet mass in $e^+e^-\to$ hadrons collisions, groomed with the modified mass drop tagger. First, we calculate the analytic cross section at leading-order. Second, using the leading-order result and numerical results through next-to-next-to-leading order, we show that cusps in the distribution on the interior of phase space at leading-order are softened at higher orders. Finally, using analytic and numerical…
A QCD fit analysis to the combined HERA inclusive deep inelastic cross sections measured by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations for $e^\pm p$ scattering to extract HERAPDF sets is presented. The results are used for predictions of $ p\bar{p}$ processes at Tevatron and $pp$ processes at the LHC. The QCD analysis has been extended to include the combined HERA II measurements at high $Q^2$ resulting in the HERAPDF1.5 sets, with full estimation of uncertainties. The precision of the new PDFs at high $x$ is considerably improved, particularly in the valence sector. In addition, inclusion of the HERA jet…
The status is reviewed of recent high precision measurements of inclusive-jet, dijet and trijet production in deep-inelastic scattering and photoproduction by the HERA experiments H1 and ZEUS. The measurements are in good agreement with perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading order and are used for the extraction of the value of the strong coupling at the mass of the Z boson, α_s(M_Z). The methods and results of the QCD analyses are presented and a summary of the values of α_s(M_Z) from recent jet measurements at HERA is given.
We analyse, within a dipole model, the inclusive DIS cross section data, obtained from the combination of the H1 and ZEUS HERA measurements. We show that these high precision data are very well described within the dipole model framework, which is complemented with a valence quark structure functions. We discuss the properties of the gluon density obtained in this way.
We analyse, within a dipole model, the final, inclusive HERA DIS cross section data in the low $x$ region, using fully correlated errors. We show, that these highest precision data are very well described within the dipole model framework starting from $Q^2$ values of 3.5 GeV$^2$ to the highest values of $Q^2 =$ 250 GeV$^2$.
We suggest a modified form of a unitarized BFKL equation imposing the so-called kinematic constraint on the gluon evolution in multi-Regge kinematics. The underlying nonlinear effects on the gluon evolution are investigated by solving the unitarized BFKL equation analytically. We obtain an equation of the critical boundary between dilute and dense partonic system, following a new differential geometric approach and sketch a phenomenological insight on geometrical scaling. Later we illustrate the phenomenological implication of our solution for unintegrated gluon distribution $f(x,k_T^2)$ towar…
A QCD fit analysis to the combined HERA-I inclusive deep inelastic cross sections measured by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations for $e^\pm p$ scattering resulting into a competitive NLO PDF set, HERAPDF1.0 is presented. HERAPDF at NNLO fits are presented as well, resulting, however, in a worse description of the combined HERA data. In addition, a preliminary analysis including the HERA II measurements of lower proton-beam energies is performed. The effect of including the new data on the determination of HERA parton distribution functions is analysed, using fits similar to those performed for HER…
We analyse, in NLO, the physical properties of the discrete eigenvalue solution for the BFKL equation. We show that a set of eigenfunctions with positive eigenvalues, ω, together with a small contribution from a continuum of eigenfunctions with negative ω, provide an excellent description of high-precision HERA F_2 data in the region, x<0.001, Q^2 > 6 GeV^2. The phases of the eigenfunctions can be obtained from a simple parametrisation of the pomeron spectrum, which has a natural motivation within BFKL. The data analysis shows that the first eigenfunction decouples completely or almost complet…
High-precision HERA data corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb$^{-1}$ have been used in the framework of $eeqq$ contact interactions (CI) to set limits on possible high-energy contributions beyond the Standard Model to electron-quark scattering. Measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current $ep$ scattering were considered. The analysis of the $ep$ data has been based on simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions including contributions of CI couplings to $ep$ scattering. Several general CI models and scenarios with heavy leptoquarks w…
The latest results from the H1 and ZEUS collaborations which challenge the QCD description of high energy $ep$ collisions are presented. Data from HERA continue to provide precision measurements and are compared to the latest theoretical predictions. Measurements of new processes are also presented as well as investigation of regions where perturbative QCD fails to describe the data. Four themes are presented here. Measurements of hard QCD processes, prompt photon and jet production, are used to compare to the latest theoretical predictions and, in the case of jet production, used to make high…
We present an analysis of the most precise set of HERA data within the color dipole formalism, by using an analytical gluon density, based on the double-logarithm approximation of the DGLAP equations in the asymptotic limit of the scaling variable, $σ=\log{(1/x)}\log{(\log{(Q^2/Q_ 0^2)})}\rightarrow \infty$. Fits to data, including charm and bottom quarks are performed and demonstrate the efficiency of the model in describing the reduced cross section, $σ_{r}$, in the wide range $Q^2:(1.5,500)$ GeV$^2$ for two dipole models including parton saturation effects. We also give predictions to $F_{2…
We determine the charm-quark mass mc(mc) in the MS-bar scheme using measurements of charm production in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA in the kinematic range of photon virtuality from 5 to 1000 GeV squared and Bjorken scaling variable from 0.0001 to 0.5. The extraction of charm quark mass from this process with space-like kinematics provides complementary information to results from hadronic processes. The QCD analysis of the HERA data yields a value of mc(mc) of 1.27 plus minus 0.05(exp) plus 0.06 minus 0.01(scale) GeV at next-to-leading order and mc(mc) of 1.36 plus minus 0.04(exp) plu…
The Impact-Parameter dependent Color Glass Condensate (b-CGC) and Saturation (IP-Sat) dipole models incorporate key features of small-x physics properties and match smoothly to the perturbative QCD regime at large $Q^2$ for a given $x$. Although both models include saturation effects and depend on impact-parameter, the former is based on the non-linear BK equation, while the latter is based on DGLAP evolution. After confronting the models to the recently released high precision combined HERA data, we show that in both models, the typical impact-parameter probed in the total $γ^{*}p$ cross-sect…
The parameters of the electroweak theory are determined in a combined electroweak and QCD analysis using all deep-inelastic $e^+p$ and $e^-p$ neutral current and charged current scattering cross sections published by the H1 Collaboration, including data with longitudinally polarised lepton beams. Various fits to Standard Model parameters in the on-shell scheme are performed. The mass of the $W$ boson is determined as $m(W)=80.520\pm 0.115$ GeV. The axial-vector and vector couplings of the light quarks to the $Z$ boson are also determined. Both results improve the precision of previous H1 deter…
The high-precision HERA data allow searches for up to TeV scales "Beyond the Standard Model" contributions to electron-quark scattering. Combined H1 and ZEUS measurements of inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current ep scattering are considered, corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb$^{-1}$. A new approach to the beyond the Standard Model analysis of the inclusive $ep$ data is presented; simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions and contributions of "new physics" processes are performed. Considered are possible deviations from the Standard Model due …
The last two decades have seen a growing trend towards the experimental efforts at the electron-proton collider HERA in which have collected high precision data on the spectrum of leading neutron (LN) and leading-proton (LP) carrying a large fraction of the proton's energy. In our recent study [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{95} (2017), 074011], we have proposed an approach based on the Fractures Functions (FF) formalism and have extracted the neutron Fracture Functions (neutron FFs) from a global QCD analysis of LN production data measured by H1 and ZEUS collaborations at HERA. We have shown that consi…
Inclusive e^\pm p single and double differential cross sections for neutral (NC) and charged current (CC) deep inelastic scattering processes are measured with the H1 detector at HERA. The data were taken at a centre-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s} = 319 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 327.8 pb^{-1} shared between two lepton beam charges and two longitudinal lepton polarisation modes. The differential cross sections are measured in the range of negative four-momentum transfer squared, Q2, between 60 and 50 000 GeV2, and Bjorken x between 0.0008 and 0.65. The measurements are combined with…
Deep inelastic scattering of $e^{\pm}$ off protons is sensitive to contributions from "dark photon" exchange. Using HERA data fit to HERA's parton distribution functions, we obtain the model-independent bound $ε\lesssim 0.02$ on the kinetic mixing between hypercharge and the dark photon for dark photon masses $\lesssim 10$ GeV. This slightly improves on the bound obtained from electroweak precision observables. For higher masses the limit weakens monotonically; $ε\lesssim 1$ for a dark photon mass of $5$ TeV. Utilizing PDF sum rules, we demonstrate that the effects of the dark photon cannot be…
We analyse the high precision HERA $F_2$ data in the low-$x$ regions, $x<0,01$ and the very-low-$x$, $x<0.001$, regions using $λ$-Fits. $λ$ is a measure of the rate of rise of $F_2$ defined by $F_2 \propto (1/x)^λ$. We show that $λ$ determined in these two regions, at various $Q^2$ values, is systematically smaller in the very-low-$x$ region as compared to the low-$x$ region. We discuss some possible physical interpretations of this effect.
The parton distribution functions (PDFs) are a non-negotiable input to almost all theory predictions at hadron colliders. In this talk, I introduce PDF determination by global analysis and discuss selected topics concerning recent relevant data from HERA and the Tevatron, before giving some prospects for the LHC. The combination of H1 and ZEUS cross sections reduces uncertainties and will be an important input to future global PDF analyses. The theoretical description of the heavy-quark contribution to structure functions at HERA has a significant influence on predictions at the LHC. New W and…
In recent years, several experiments at the $e^-p$ collider HERA have collected high precision deep inelastic scattering (DIS) data on the spectrum of leading nucleon carrying a large fraction of the proton's energy. In this paper, we have analyzed recent experimental data on the production of forward proton and neutron in DIS at HERA in the framework of a perturbative QCD. We propose a technique based on the fractures functions framework, and extract the nucleon fracture functions (nucleon FFs) ${\cal M}_2^{(n/p)} (x, Q^2; x_L)$ from global QCD analysis of DIS data measured by ZEUS collaborat…
A precision measurement of jet cross sections in neutral current deep-inelastic scattering for photon virtualities $5.5<Q^2<80\,{\rm GeV}^2$ and inelasticities $0.2<y<0.6$ is presented, using data taken with the H1 detector at HERA, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $290\,{\rm pb}^{-1}$. Double-differential inclusive jet, dijet and trijet cross sections are measured simultaneously and are presented as a function of jet transverse momentum observables and as a function of $Q^2$. Jet cross sections normalised to the inclusive neutral current DIS cross section in the respective $Q^2$-i…
To resolve the long-standing discrepancy between the precision measurement of bottom quark forward-backward asymmetry at LEP/SLC and the Standard Model prediction, we propose a novel method to probe the $Zb\bar{b}$ coupling by measuring the single-spin asymmetry $A_e^b$ of the polarized lepton cross section in neutral current DIS processes with a $b$-tagged jet at HERA and EIC. Depending on the tagging efficiency of the final state $b$-jet, the measurement of $A_e^b$ at HERA can already partially break the degeneracy found in the anomalous $Zb\bar{b}$ coupling, as implied by the LEP and SLC pr…
Experiments at the LHC are collecting a wealth of data with an unprecedented level of precision. As a consequence, the theoretical error is now starting to lag behind the experimental one, and a ceaseless effort is required to reduce the theory uncertainty to match the precision of the data. At hadron colliders, QCD predictions are obtained by convoluting perturbative parton-level results with non-perturbative PDFs, whose precise determination is crucial to reach percent-accurate theoretical predictions. At the parton level, cross sections are obtained through a perturbative expansion in the s…
We use an anti-de Sitter/Quantum Chromodynamics (AdS/QCD) holographic light-front wavefunction for the $ρ$ and $ϕ$ mesons, in conjunction with the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) dipole cross-section whose parameters are fitted to the most recent 2015 high precision HERA data on inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS), in order to predict the cross-sections for diffractive $ρ$ and $ϕ$ electroproduction. Our results suggest that the holographic meson light-front wavefunction is able to give a simultaneous description of the $ρ$ and $ϕ$ production data provided we use a set of light quark masses …
Several experiments at the electron-proton ($ep$) collider HERA have collected high precision data on the spectrum of leading-proton and leading-neutron carrying a large fraction of the proton's energy. In this paper, we have analyzed recent experimental data on the production of leading-nucleon in deep inelastic scattering (DIS) processes at HERA in the framework of a perturbative QCD (pQCD). An approach based on the fractures functions framework has been used, and the nucleon fracture functions (nucleon FFs) ${\cal M}_2^{(n/p)} (x, Q^2, x_L)$ have been extracted from global QCD analysis of D…
The high-precision HERA data can be used as an input to a QCD analysis within the DGLAP formalism to obtain the detailed description of the proton structure in terms of the parton distribution functions (PDFs). However, when searching for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) contributions in the data one should take into account the possibility that the PDF set may already have been biased by partially or totally absorbing previously unrecognised new physics contributions. The ZEUS Collaboration has proposed a new approach to the BSM analysis of the inclusive $ep$ data based on the simultaneous QCD fit…
We present the new MSHT20 set of parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton, determined from global analyses of the available hard scattering data. The PDFs are made available at NNLO, NLO, and LO, and supersede the MMHT14 sets. They are obtained using the same basic framework, but the parameterisation is now adapted and extended, and there are 32 pairs of eigenvector PDFs. We also include a large number of new data sets: from the final HERA combined data on total and heavy flavour structure functions, to final Tevatron data, and in particular a significant number of new LHC 7 and 8 Te…
The combined measurements of proton's structure functions in deeply inelastic scattering at the HERA collider provide high-precision data capable of constraining parton density functions over a wide range of the kinematic variables. We perform fits to these data using transverse momentum dependent QCD factorization and CCFM evolution. The results of the fits to precision measurements are used to make a determination of the nonperturbative transverse momentum dependent gluon density function, including experimental and theoretical uncertainties. We present an application of this density functio…
The process pe -> pe+gamma with the photon emitted along the electron beam axis is used for luminosity measurement at HERA. In this paper the process is calculated including one-loop QED radiative corrections. In the ZEUS experiment, both the electron and the photon can be detected. Therefore both photon and electron spectra with and without the gamma-e coincidence are analyzed. We also calculate the process pe -> pel+l- which contributes to the background in the electron tagger.
We determine the strong coupling alpha_s from a next-to-leading order analysis of processes used for the NNPDF2.1 parton determination, which includes data from neutral and charged current deep-inelastic scattering, Drell-Yan and inclusive jet production. We find alpha_s(M_Z)=0.1191+-0.0006 (exp), where the uncertainty includes all statistical and systematic experimental uncertainties, but not purely theoretical uncertainties. We study the dependence of the results on the dataset, by providing further determinations based respectively on deep-inelastic data only, and on HERA data only. The dee…
The Impact-Parameter dependent Saturation Model (IP-Sat) is a simple dipole model that incorporates key features of the physics of gluon saturation and matches smoothly to the perturbative QCD dipole expression at large Q^2 for a given x. It was previously shown that the model gives a good description of HERA data suggesting evidence for gluon saturation effects at small x. The model has also been applied to proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions and provides the basis for the IP-Glasma model of initial conditions in heavy ion collisions. Here we present a reanalysis of available data in …
The high-precision HERA data allows searches up to TeV scales for Beyond the Standard Model contributions to electron-quark scattering. Combined measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current $ep$ scattering corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb$^{-1}$ have been used in this analysis. A new approach to the beyond the Standard Model analysis of the inclusive $ep$ data is presented; simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions together with contributions of "new physics" processes were performed. Results are presented considering a finite …
The Impact-Parameter dependent Color Glass Condensate (b-CGC) dipole model is based on the Balitsky-Kovchegov non-linear evolution equation and improves the Iancu-Itakura-Munier dipole model by incorporating the impact-parameter dependence of the saturation scale. Here we confront the model to the recently released high precision combined HERA data and obtain its parameters. The b-CGC results are then compared to data at small-x for the structure function, the longitudinal structure function, the charm structure function, exclusive vector meson (J/ψ, ϕ, ρ) production and Deeply Virtual Compton…
We present the new parton distribution functions (PDFs) from the CTEQ-TEA collaboration, obtained using a wide variety of high-precision Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, in addition to the combined HERA I+II deep-inelastic scattering data set, along with the data sets present in the CT14 global QCD analysis. New LHC measurements in single-inclusive jet production with the full rapidity coverage, as well as production of Drell-Yan pairs, top-quark pairs, and high-$p_T$ $Z$ bosons, are included to achieve the greatest sensitivity to the PDFs. The parton distributions are determined at NLO and N…
