High-precision HERA data corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb$^{-1}$ have been used in the framework of $eeqq$ contact interactions (CI) to set limits on possible high-energy contributions beyond the Standard Model to electron-quark scattering. Measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current $ep$ scattering were considered. The analysis of the $ep$ data has been based on simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions including contributions of CI couplings to $ep$ scattering. Several general CI models and scenarios with heavy leptoquarks were considered. Improvements in the description of the inclusive HERA data were obtained for a few models. Since a statistically significant deviation from the Standard Model cannot be established, limits in the TeV range were set on all models considered.
A search for first generation scalar and vector leptoquarks produced in ep collisions is performed by the H1 Collaboration at HERA. The full H1 data sample is used in the analysis, corresponding to an integrated luminosity 446 pb^-1. No evidence for the production of leptoquarks is observed in final states with a large transverse momentum electron or with large missing transverse momentum, and constraints on leptoquark models are derived. For leptoquark couplings of electromagnetic strength lambda=0.3, first generation leptoquarks with masses up to 800 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.
We demonstrate that in the presence of mixing between different scalar leptoquark multiplets it is possible to simultaneously account for the HERA high-$Q^2$ neutral current anomaly, and produce a charged current anomaly of comparable magnitude. The reduced branching ratio to electrons and jets of the lightest leptoquark state results in a significant weakening of the CDF/D0 limits on scalar leptoquarks; masses consistent with the HERA neutral current excess are comfortably within the allowed range. We show that the possibilities for such a successful mixed leptoquark scenario are quite limite…
A search for first-generation leptoquarks was performed in electron-proton and positron-proton collisions recorded with the ZEUS detector at HERA in 2003-2007 using an integrated luminosity of 366 pb^-1. Final states with an electron and jets or with missing transverse momentum and jets were analysed, searching for resonances or other deviations from the Standard Model predictions. No evidence for any leptoquark signal was found. The data were combined with data previously taken at HERA, resulting in a total integrated luminosity of 498 pb^-1. Limits on the Yukawa coupling, lambda, of leptoqua…

The HERA ep collider and the experiments H1 and ZEUS operated from 1994-2007. A total integrated luminosity of almost 1 fb^-1 was collected at centre-of-mass energies up to 320 GeV. Results from searches for leptoquarks and squarks, final states with an isolated lepton and missing transverse momentum and final states with multi-leptons are presented. The leptoquark limits are interpreted in terms of limits on squark production in SUSY models with R-parity violating couplings.
A search for scalar and vector leptoquarks coupling to first generation fermions is performed in the H1 experiment at the ep collider HERA. The analysis uses e^- p data collected in 1998 and 1999 at a centre-of-mass energy of 320 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 15 pb^-1. No evidence for the direct production of such particles is found in a data sample with a large transverse momentum final state electron or with large missing transverse momentum, and constraints on leptoquark models are established. For a Yukawa coupling of electromagnetic strength leptoquarks are excluded fo…
A search for second and third generation scalar and vector leptoquarks produced in ep collisions via the lepton flavour violating processes ep to mu-X and ep to tau-X is performed by the H1 Collaboration at HERA. The full H1 ep data sample taken at a centre-of-mass energy of 319 GeV is used for the analysis, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 411 pb^-1. No evidence for the production of such leptoquarks is observed in the H1 data. Leptoquarks produced in ep collisions with a coupling strength of lambda=0.3 and decaying with the same coupling strength to a muon-quark pair or a tau-qua…
Various searches for leptoquarks, scalar quarks in $R_p$-violating supersymmetric models, and excited fermions performed by the HERA experiments H1 and ZEUS are reviewed. No evidence for new particle production was observed from data collected by both experiments since 1994 in either electron-proton and positron-proton collisions. Stringent limits derived on the masses and couplings of these new particles are compared whenever appropriate with those from LEP, the Tevatron and low energy experiments.
A search for scalar and vector leptoquarks coupling to first generation fermions is performed using the e^+p and e^-p scattering data collected by the H1 experiment between 1994 and 2000. The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 117 pb^{-1}. No evidence for the direct or indirect production of such particles is found in data samples with a large transverse momentum final state electron or with large missing transverse momentum. Constraints on leptoquark models are established. For leptoquark couplings of electromagnetic strength, leptoquarks with masses up to 275-325 GeV are rul…
Recent results on searches for new particles at the electron-proton collider HERA are reported. Based on roughly 100pb-1 of e^+p data and 16pb-1 of e^-p data per experiment, taken in the years 1994-2000, the H1 and ZEUS collaborations have derived new exclusion limits for the direct production of excited fermion states and leptoquarks. The latter are searched for in different decay channels, including lepton-flavor violating decays. The production of R_P-violating squarks followed by leptoquark-like decays to lepton and quark is studied, as are cascade decays yielding multi-jet plus lepton sig…
A search for leptoquarks at HERA was performed in H1 using 1994 $e^+ p$ data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about $3 \pb^{-1}$. Single leptoquarks were searched for in direct positron-quark fusion processes taking into account possible decays into lepton-quark pairs of either the first, the second, or the third generation. No significant deviation from the Standard Model predictions is found in the various final states studied and mass dependent exclusion limits are derived on the Yukawa couplings of the leptoquarks. Compared with earlier results from an analysis of $e^-p$ data, …
A search for narrow-width resonances that decay into electron+jet or neutrino+jet has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA operating at center-of-mass energies of 300 and 318 GeV. An integrated e+p luminosity of 114.8 pb-1 and e-p luminosity of 16.7 pb-1 were used. No evidence for any resonance was found. Limits were derived on the Yukawa coupling as a function of the mass of a hypothetical resonance that has arbitrary decay branching ratios into electron+quark or neutrino+quark. These limits also apply to squarks predicted by R-parity-violating supersymmetry. Limits for the productio…
Recent results on searches for new particles at the electron-proton collider HERA are reported. Based on roughly 40pb-1 of e^+p data taken in the years 1994-1997, the H1 and ZEUS collaborations have derived new exclusion limits for the direct production of excited fermion states and of leptoquarks in different decay channels, including lepton-flavor violating decays. The results of searches for contact interactions further constrain the parameter space for such particles and their couplings in the high-mass regime, where direct production is kinematically prohibited. Also preliminary analyses …
A contact interaction analysis is presented to search for new phenomena beyond the Standard Model in deep inelastic $e^\pm p \rightarrow e^\pm \, hadrons$ scattering. The data are collected with the H1 detector at HERA and correspond to integrated luminosities of $0.909 \ {\rm pb}^{-1}$ and $2.947 \ {\rm pb}^{-1}$ for electron and positron beams, respectively. The differential cross sections $dσ/ dQ^2$ are measured in the $Q^2$ range bet\-ween $160 \ \GeV^2$ and $20,000 \ \GeV^2$. The absence of any significant deviation from the Standard Model prediction is used to constrain the couplings and…
The reaction e+p --> e+X is studied with the H1 detector at Hera. The data cover momentum transfers Q^2 between 200 GeV^2 and 30,000 GeV^2 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.6 pb^(-1). The differential cross section dsigma/dQ^2 is compared to the Standard Model expectation for neutral current scattering and analysed to search for bar(e)e bar(q)q contact interactions. No evidence for new phenomena is observed. The results are used to set limits on scales within models of electron--quark compositeness, quark form factors and the exchange of virtual heavy leptoquarks. A search for g…
We explore interpretations of the anomaly observed by H1 and ZEUS at HERA in deep-inelastic e^+ p scattering at very large Q^2. We discuss the possibilities of new effective interactions and the production of a narrow state of mass 200 GeV with leptoquark couplings. We compare these models with the measured Q^2 distributions: for the contact terms, constraints from LEP2 and the Tevatron allow only a few choices of helicity and flavour structure that could roughly fit the HERA data. The data are instead quite consistent with the Q^2 distribution expected from a leptoquark state. We study the pr…
The recent measurement of atomic parity violation in cesium atoms shows a $2.3σ$ deviation from the standard model prediction. We show that such an effect can be explained by four-fermion contact interactions with specific chiralities or by scalar leptoquarks which couple to the left-handed quarks. For a coupling of electromagnetic strength, the leptoquark mass is inferred to be 1.1 to 1.3 TeV. We also show that these solutions are consistent with all other low-energy and high-energy neutral-current data.
A search for second and third generation scalar and vector leptoquarks produced in ep collisions via the lepton flavour violating processes ep -> mu X and ep -> tau X is performed by the H1 experiment at HERA. The full H1 ep data sample taken at a centre-of-mass energy of 319 GeV is used for the analysis. No evidence for the production of such leptoquarks is observed in the H1 data. Leptoquarks produced in ep collisions with a coupling strength of 0.3 and decaying with the same coupling strength to a muon-quark pair or a tau-quark pair are excluded at 95% confidence level up to leptoquark mass…
The cross section for production of R-parity violating squarks ($\tilde{q}$) or leptoquarks ($LQ$) with masses above 200 GeV by positron-proton scattering at HERA can be substantially increased by a moderate increase of the beam energies. If, for example, the positron energy is raised from 27.5 to 32.5 GeV and the proton energy from 820 to 1000 GeV, the $\tilde{q}/LQ$ production cross section for masses of 200 - 230 GeV increases by a factor of about 2-6 and the search range for $\tilde{q}/LQ$ is extended by about 40 GeV to masses of 270 - 280 GeV. In this report event yields are presented for…
A search for second and third generation scalar and vector leptoquarks produced in ep collisions via the lepton flavour violating processes ep -> mu X and ep -> tau X is performed by the H1 experiment at HERA. The full data sample taken at a centre-of-mass energy sqrt{s} = 319 GeV is used for the analysis, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 245 pb^-1 of e^+ p and 166 pb^-1 of e^- p collision data. No evidence for the production of such leptoquarks is observed in the H1 data. Leptoquarks produced in e^+- p collisions with a coupling strength of lambda=0.3 and decaying with the same co…
The $e^+p$-data collected with the ZEUS (${\cal L}=47.7$ pb$^{-1}$) and the H1 (${\cal L}=37$ pb$^{-1}$) detectors at HERA in 1994--1997 are analysed for signals of lepton flavour violation mediated by leptoquark exchange, both in the muon and the tau channels. No evidence for lepton flavour violation is found and limits on the leptoquarks' Yukawa couplings are set.
We update the global constraint on four-fermion $ee q q$ contact interactions. In this update, we included the published data of H1 and ZEUS for the 94--96 run in the $e^+ p$ mode and the newly published data of H1 for the 1999 run in the $e^- p$ mode. Other major changes are the new LEPII data on hadronic cross sections above 189 GeV, and the atomic parity violation measurement on Cesium because of a new and improved atomic calculation, which drives the data within $1σ$ of the standard model value. The global data do not show any evidence for contact interactions, and we obtain 95% C.L. limit…
Distributions from high-pT HERA event data analyzed in a general search for new physics at H1 have been incorporated into Quaero, an algorithm designed to automate tests of specific hypotheses with high energy collider data. The use of Quaero@H1 to search for leptoquarks, R-parity violating supersymmetry, and excited quarks provides examples to develop intuition for the algorithm's performance.
We compute the predictions of intrinsic charm for deep-inelastic scattering at high-Q^2 and compare to HERA data. With the inclusion of constraints from low-energy data, enhancements beyond the predictions of standard structure functions are very modest, but peaking in the leptoquark mass variable is present near 200 GeV. Ultimately, the ability of HERA to probe the intrinsic charm hypothesis could be very substantial.
Taking the reported high-Q^2 anomaly at HERA as a signal of new physics, we show that several independent considerations point towards s-channel leptoquark production as the most attractive interpretation. We argue that even this option is highly constrained by flavor-changing processes: the couplings must be accurately diagonal in the quark and lepton mass eigenstate basis and should preserve individual quark and lepton family numbers. We propose a dynamical mechanism that might produce this pattern; it has distinctive experimental consequences.
Searches for contact interactions, leptoquark bosons and excited fermions carried out at the HERA ep collider are presented here. The searches are based on ~ 40 pb^-1 of e+ p data per experiment collected at a centre of mass energy ~ 300 GeV. First results on e- p data collected in 1998-1999 are also presented.
A search for physics beyond the Standard Model has been performed with high-Q^2 neutral current deep inelastic scattering events recorded with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Two data sets, e^+ p \to e^+ X and e^- p \to e^- X, with respective integrated luminosities of 112 pb^-1 and 16 pb^-1, were analyzed. The data reach Q^2 values as high as 40000 GeV^2. No significant deviations from Standard Model predictions were observed. Limits were derived on the effective mass scale in eeqq contact interactions, the ratio of leptoquark mass to the Yukawa coupling for heavy leptoquark models and the mass sc…
We obtain bounds on the mass scales characterizing four-fermion contact interactions in charged current processes. The bounds arise from the Q^2 and x distributions in the processes e p -> νX measured by the two HERA experiments, H1 and ZEUS.
A search for new bosons possessing couplings to lepton-quark pairs is performed in the H1 experiment at HERA using 1994 to 1997 data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 37pb^-1. First generation leptoquarks (LQs) are searched in very high Q^2 neutral (NC) and charged (CC) current data samples. The measurements are compared to Standard Model (SM) expectations from deep-inelastic scattering (DIS). A deviation in the Q^2 spectrum previously observed in the 1994 to 1996 dataset at Q^2 \gsim 15000GeV^2 remains, though with less significance. This deviation corresponded to a clustering in t…
The e^+ jet invariant mass spectrum produced in the reaction e^+ p -> e^+ X has been studied at a center-of-mass energy of 300 GeV. The data were collected using the ZEUS detector operating at the HERA collider, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 47.7 pb^{-1}. The observed mass spectrum is in good agreement with Standard Model expectations up to an e^+ jet mass of 210 GeV. Above this mass, some excess is seen. The angular distribution of these events is typical of high-Q^2 neutral current events and does not give convincing evidence for the presence of a narrow scalar or vector stat…
The electron-proton collisions collected by the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA comprise a unique particle physics data set, and a comprehensive range of measurements has been performed to provide new insight into the structure of the proton. The high centre of mass energy at HERA has also allowed rare processes to be studied, including the production of W and Z bosons and events with multiple leptons in the final state. The data have also opened up a new domain to searches for physics beyond the Standard Model including contact interactions, leptoquarks, excited fermions and a number of super…
We have searched for the pair production of first generation scalar leptoquarks in the eejj channel using the full data set (123 pb-1) collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1992--1996. We observe no candidates with an expected background of approximately 0.4 events. Comparing the experimental 95% confidence level upper limit to theoretical calculations of the cross section with the assumption of a 100% branching fraction to eq, we set a lower limit on the mass of a first generation scalar leptoquark of 225 GeV/c^2. The results of this analysis rule out the interpretati…
Recent results of searches for new physics at HERA using the complete data sample corresponding to about 0.5/fb per experiment are reviewed. Searches for leptoquarks, isolated leptons (electrons, muons and taus) and a generic search for new physics in many topologies are reported. No evidence for new physics is found. The ep collisions at HERA are ideally suited to search for resonantly produced squarks in SUSY with R-parity violation. It is highlighted how the present results can be interpreted in this way.
We explore the possible interpretation of the large-$Q^2$ anomaly reported by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations in terms of stop squark production off a strange quark in the proton via an R-violating interaction. This "strange stop" interpretation is constrained by LEP measurements of the $Z \to e^+ e^-$ decay rate in addition to constraints from the electroweak $ρ$ parameter and CDF and D0 searches for first-generation leptoquarks. We investigate the interplay between these constraints, taking full account of stop mixing effects. We find that if $m_{\tilde t} \le 200$ GeV only relatively small d…
Searches for physics beyond the Standard Model have been performed in high-energy $e^{\pm}p$ collisions at HERA. No significant deviation from the Standard Model has been observed while searching for contact interactions, extra dimensions, leptoquarks, R-parity violating squarks and excited fermions. Exclusion limits have been inferred which extend or complement bounds from other colliders. The H1 collaboration has observed a puzzling excess of events with an high $P_t$ isolated lepton and missing transverse momentum, and interpretation as flavour changing neutral currents has been explored.
The H1 and ZEUS collaborations at HERA have searched for signatures of physics beyond the Standard Model using high Q^2 neutral current deep inelastic electron-proton and positron-proton scattering events. No significant deviations from Standard Model predictions were observed. Various eeqq contact interaction models have been considered. Limits on the compositeness scale in general eeqq contact interaction models, mass to the Yukawa coupling ratio for heavy leptoquarks, the effective Planck mass scale in models with large extra dimensions and the effective quark charge radius are presented.
Signals of physics beyond the Standard Model at HERA have been searched for by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. Results are reported about searches of contact interaction effects, leptoquarks, R-parity violating squarks, excited fermions and single top production. The analyses used the data set collected during the HERA phase I, consisting in about 110 (15) pb^{-1} of e^+p (e^-p) collisions per experiment. No evidence for new physics has been found and limits have been set on the parameters of the models considered.

No significant deviations from Standard Model predictions were observed. Various eeqq contact nteraction models have been considered. Limits on the compositeness scale in general eeqq contact interaction models, mass to the Yukawa coupling ratio for heavy leptoquarks, the effective Planck mass scale in models with large extra dimensions and the effective quark charge radius are presented.
The high energy programme of the HERA collider ended in March 2007. During the whole HERA programme, a combined total integrated luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$ was collected by the H1 and ZEUS experiments. In this context, an overview of the most recent results of both experiments concerning searches for new physics is presented. The topics covered are searches for contact interactions, leptoquarks and excited leptons, as well as studies of the isolated lepton and multi-lepton topologies, and a general signature based search.
The high-precision HERA data allow searches for up to TeV scales "Beyond the Standard Model" contributions to electron-quark scattering. Combined H1 and ZEUS measurements of inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current ep scattering are considered, corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb$^{-1}$. A new approach to the beyond the Standard Model analysis of the inclusive $ep$ data is presented; simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions and contributions of "new physics" processes are performed. Considered are possible deviations from the Standard Model due …
A search has been made for lepton-flavor-violating interactions, e+ p -> mu/tau X, at a center-of-mass energy of 300 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 47.7 pb^-1 using the ZEUS detector at HERA. No evidence was found for lepton-flavor violation and constraints were derived on leptoquarks that could mediate such interactions. Some of the constraints are also applicable to lepton-flavor-violating processes mediated by squarks in R-parity-violating supersymmetric models. In some cases involving heavy quarks and especially for the tau channel, the ZEUS constraints are the most stringent publish…
HERA is the only high energy electron-proton collider in the world today and hence has unique opportunities both to probe the structure of the proton and to search for physics beyond the Standard Model. Results are presented for measurements of both neutral and charged current cross sections, and for searches for exotic processes involving direct electron-quark interactions (leptoquarks and R-parity violating SUSY), generic coupling models (contact interactions) and exclusive final states (isolated leptons and missing PT, single top production and pentaquarks). Exclusion limits on proposed mod…
Recent results of searches for leptoquarks, lepton flavour violating leptoquarks and excited fermions (electrons, neutrinos and quarks) with the H1 experiment at HERA are presented, which use up to the full ep H1 data set. No evidence for the direct or indirect production of such particles is found. The results are interpreted in terms of limits on the Yukawa coupling of leptoquarks and lepton flavour violating processes and for excited fermions on the ratio of the coupling parameter to the compositeness scale f/Lambda, mainly in the framework of gauge mediated interactions. The derived limits…
Recent results from searches for physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) in electron/positron-proton collisions at HERA at center-of-mass energies of 300 and 320 GeV are presented. They were performed on a data sample collected in the period 1994-2004 by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. The data have been analysed searching for leptoquarks, light gravitinos in R-parity violating supersymmetric models and magnetic monopoles. Results of a general search for new phenomena at high transverse momentum and of a dedicated search for events with isolated leptons and missing transverse momentum are also …
The latest results from the H1 and ZEUS collaborations are presented on leptoquark production and rare Standard Model processes. The data were taken in the period 1994-2005, at a centre of mass energy of up to 319 GeV. Intriguing events containing isolated leptons and missing transverse momentum, as well as multi-lepton events, are observed by H1 in regions of phase space where the SM prediction is low. Interpretations of the observed excesses in terms of physics Beyond the Standard Model are also discussed.
We have searched for the pair production of first generation scalar leptoquarks using the full data set (123 pb**-1) collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1992-1996. We observe no candidates, consistent with the expected background. We combine these new results from the ee + jets and enu + jets channels with the published nunu + jets result to obtain a 95% CL upper limits on the LQ pair production cross section as a function of mass and beta, the branching ratio to a charged lepton and a quark. Comparing to the NLO theory predictions, we set 95% CL lower limits on the …
Recent results from searches for new physics at HERA are reviewed. Exploiting the uniqueness of lepton-hadron collisions at high energy, searches are performed for electron-quark resonant states (leptoquarks or squarks in R-parity-violating supersymmetry) or excited states of fermions. New phenomena at a very high energy scale, manifested at present energies as effective four-fermion contact interaction, are also investigated, including cases with lepton-flavor violation. Finally, the status of events with a high-energy lepton and missing transverse momentum is presented, resulting in the most…
In a search for signatures of physics processes beyond the Standard Model, various eeqq vector contact-interaction hypotheses have been tested using the high-Q^2, deep inelastic neutral-current e^+p scattering data collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 47.7pb-1 of e^+p interactions at 300GeV center-of-mass energy. No significant evidence of a contact-interaction signal has been found. Limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the contact-interaction amplitudes. The effective mass scales Lambda corresponding to these limits range from 1…
A study of the antineutrino-jet mass spectrum in e^+p -> antineutrino+X events at center-of-mass energy 300 GeV has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 47.7 pb^-1. The mass spectrum is in good agreement with that expected from Standard Model processes over the antineutrino -jet mass range studied. No significant excess attributable to the decay of a narrow resonance is observed. By using both e^+p -> e^+ X and e^+p -> antineutrino X data, mass-dependent limits are set on the s-channel production of scalar and vector resonant states. Couplings to firs…
Using the ZEUS detector at the HERA electron-proton collider, we have searched for lepton flavor violation in ep collisions at a center-of-mass energy s^1/2 of 300 GeV. Events of the type e + p -> lepton + X with a final-state lepton (mu or tau) of high transverse momentum, were sought. No evidence was found for lepton flavor violation in the combined 1993 and 1994 data samples, for which the integrated luminosities were 0.84 pb^-1 for e- p collisions and 2.94 pb^-1 for e+ p collisions. Limits on coupling vs. mass are provided for leptoquarks and R-parity violating squarks. For flavor violatin…
Deep-inelastic e^\pm p scattering at high squared momentum transfer Q^2 up to 30000 GeV^2 is used to search for eq contact interactions associated to scales far beyond the HERA centre of mass energy. The neutral current cross section measurements d sigma / d Q^2, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 16.4 pb^-1 of e^- p data and 100.8 pb^-1 of e^+ p data, are well described by the Standard Model and are analysed to set constraints on new phenomena. For conventional contact interactions lower limits are set on compositeness scales Lambda ranging between 1.6 - 5.5 TeV. Couplings and masses…
A search for physics beyond the Standard Model in neutral current deep inelastic scattering at high negative four-momentum transfer squared Q^2 is performed in e^{\pm}p collisions at HERA. The differential cross section ds/dQ^2, measured using the full H1 data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 446 pb^{-1}, is compared to the Standard Model prediction. No significant deviation is observed. Limits on various models predicting new phenomena at high Q^2 are derived. For general four-fermion eeqq contact interaction models, lower limits on the compositeness scale Lambda are set in…
Search for excited $τ$-leptons and leptoquarks in the final state with $τ$-leptons and jets in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector
The most severe constraints on quark-lepton four-fermion contact interactions come from the agreement of atomic parity violation measurements with the Standard Model. In this letter I note that for contact interactions which arise in theories of composite quarks and leptons, other approximate global symmetries than parity can eliminate the contribution of contact terms to atomic parity violation. The most stringent tests of compositeness therefore come from the high energy collider experiments at LEP II, HERA, and the Tevatron.
Recent results on searches for signals of physics beyond Standard Model at the ep collider HERA are reviewed. Limits obtained for contact interaction models, large extra dimensions and finite quark radius are presented. Searches for excited-fermion resonances yield unique limits on excited electrons and neutrinos. Finally, measurement of W production cross section in ep collision is presented.
In this paper searches are presented for the pair production of first and second generation scalar leptoquarks and limits are given on the quark-lepton compositeness scale from proton-antiproton collision data at a center-of-mass energy 1.96 TeV, collected with Run II D0 Detector in 2002-2004. No evidence for a leptoquark signal has been observed. From the upper bounds on the product of cross section times branching ratio beta=Br(LQ to lj), a lower mass limits of M(LQ1) > 241 GeV and M(LQ2) > 247 GeV for the first and second LQ generation are set for beta=1. These results, combined with those …
In this talk, I summarize a global analysis on electron-quark contact interactions using the updated NC DIS data at HERA, Drell-yan production at the Tevatron, total hadronic cross sections at LEP, atomic parity violation measurement, low energy $e$-nucleon scattering data, and the $ν$-nucleon scattering data. The global data do not show any evidence for contact interactions. Thus, we obtain limits of 8--15 TeV on the compositeness scale, which are significantly better than those published by each individual experiment.
A search for lepton-flavor-violating interactions $e p \to μX $ and $e p\to τX $ has been performed with the ZEUS detector using the entire HERA I data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 130 pb^{-1}. The data were taken at center-of-mass energies, $\sqrt{s}$, of 300 and 318 GeV. No evidence of lepton-flavor violation was found, and constraints were derived on leptoquarks (LQs) that could mediate such interactions. For LQ masses below $\sqrt{s}$, limits were set on $λ_{eq_1} \sqrt{β_{\ell q}}$, where $λ_{eq_1}$ is the coupling of the LQ to an electron and a first-generation qu…
A search for excited electrons is performed using the full $e^{\pm}p$ data sample collected by the H1 experiment at HERA, corresponding to a total luminosity of 475 pb$^{-1}$. The electroweak decays of excited electrons ${e}^{*}\to{e}γ$, ${e}^{*}\to{e}Z$ and ${e}^{*}{\to}νW$ with subsequent hadronic or leptonic decays of the $W$ and $Z$ bosons are considered. No evidence for excited electron production is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits on $e^*$ production cross sections and on the ratio $f/Λ$ of the coupling to the compositeness scale are derived within gauge mediated models. These lim…
The cross sections and forward-backward asymmetries of hadronic and leptonic events produced in e+e- collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 130-183 GeV are presented. Results for ee, mumu, tautau, qq, bb and cc production show no significant deviation from the Standard Model predictions. This enable constraints to be set upon physics beyond the Standard Model such as four-fermion contact interactions, leptoquarks, Z' bosons and R-parity violating squarks and sneutrinos. Limits on the energy scale Lambda of eeff contact interactions are typically in the range from 2-10 TeV. Limits on R-parity…
