A search for excited electrons is performed using the full $e^{\pm}p$ data sample collected by the H1 experiment at HERA, corresponding to a total luminosity of 475 pb$^{-1}$. The electroweak decays of excited electrons ${e}^{*}\to{e}γ$, ${e}^{*}\to{e}Z$ and ${e}^{*}{\to}νW$ with subsequent hadronic or leptonic decays of the $W$ and $Z$ bosons are considered. No evidence for excited electron production is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits on $e^*$ production cross sections and on the ratio $f/Λ$ of the coupling to the compositeness scale are derived within gauge mediated models. These limits extend the excluded region compared to previous excited electron searches. The $e^*$ production via contact interactions is also addressed for the first time in $ep$ collisions.
Heavy excited electrons and neutrinos have been sought by the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA. For the e* (nu*) searches, 120 pb^-1 (16 pb^-1) of ep collision data have been analysed. No evidence for any excited lepton has been found, and limits on the characteristic couplings have been derived.
Recent results from searches for physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) in $e^\pm$-proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 300 -- 318 GeV at HERA are presented. Searches for excitations of fermions and for the production of squarks in R-parity-violating Supersymmetry (SUSY) are reviewed.
Various searches for leptoquarks, scalar quarks in $R_p$-violating supersymmetric models, and excited fermions performed by the HERA experiments H1 and ZEUS are reviewed. No evidence for new particle production was observed from data collected by both experiments since 1994 in either electron-proton and positron-proton collisions. Stringent limits derived on the masses and couplings of these new particles are compared whenever appropriate with those from LEP, the Tevatron and low energy experiments.
We present a search for excited neutrinos using e^-p data taken by the H1 experiment at HERA at a center-of-mass energy of 318 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 15 pb-1. No evidence for excited neutrino production is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits are determined for the ratio of the coupling to the compositeness scale, f/Lambda, independently of the relative couplings to the SU(2) and U(1) gauge bosons. These limits extend the excluded region to higher masses than has been possible in previous searches at other colliders.
A search for excited neutrinos produced in electron--proton collisions is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 114 pb$^{-1}$ recently collected by the H1 detector at HERA. In absence of a signal, the measurement is interpreted within a minimal model parameterised in terms of couplings and compositness scale. New parameter regions, beyond other colliders sensitivities, are explored by the present preliminary analysis.

The electroweak decays of excited quarks q* -> q gamma, q* -> q Z and q* -> q W with subsequent hadronic or leptonic decays of the W and Z bosons are considered. No evidence for first generation excited quark production is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits on q* production cross sections and on the ratio f/Lambda of the coupling to the compositeness scale are derived within gauge mediated models. These limits extend the…
Searches for excited electrons and neutrinos have been performed using the complete HERA I and II data samples collected by the H1 detector at $\sqrt{s}=320$ GeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 435 pb$^{-1}$. In absence of a signal, the limits on the ratio of the coupling to the compositeness scale derived extend the excluded region to higher masses than has been possible in previous searches.
A search for excited fermions f^* of the first generation in e^+p scattering at the collider HERA is presented using H1 data with an integrated luminosity of 37 pb^(-1). All electroweak decays of excited fermions, f^* -> f gamma, f W, f Z are considered and all possible final states resulting from the Z or W hadronic decays or decays into leptons of the first two generations are taken into account. No evidence for f^* production is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits on cross-sections and on the ratio of coupling constants to the compositeness scale are derived.

Masses, widths and helicity parameters were determined. The measured yields were converted to the rates of c quarks hadronising as a given excited charm meson and to the ratios of the dominant D_2^*(2460)^0 and D_{s1}(2536)^+- branching fractions. A search for the radially excited charm meson, D^{*'}(2640)^+-, was also performed. The results are compared with those measured previously…
Using the ZEUS detector at HERA, we have searched for heavy excited states of electrons, neutrinos, and quarks in $e^+p$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 300~GeV. With an integrated luminosity of 9.4~pb$^{-1}$, no evidence was found for electroweak production and decay of such states. Limits on the production cross section times branching ratio and on the characteristic couplings, $f/Λ$, are derived for masses up to 250~GeV. For the particular choice $f/Λ= 1/M_{f^*}$, we exclude at the 95% confidence level excited electrons with mass between 30 and 200~GeV, excited electron neutrinos w…

The data used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 120 pb^(-1) taken in e^(+-)p collisions from 1994 to 2000 with the H1 detector at HERA at centre-of-mass energies of 300 and 318 GeV. No evidence for a signal is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits are derived for the ratio of the couplings to the compositeness scale, f/Lambda. These limits extend the excluded region to higher masses than has been possible in previous direct searches for excited ele…

No evidence for excited neutrino production is found. Mass dependent exclusion limits on $ν^*$ production cross sections and on the ratio of the coupling to the compositeness scale $f/Λ$ are derived within gau…
Recent results on searches for new particles at the electron-proton collider HERA are reported. Based on roughly 100pb-1 of e^+p data and 16pb-1 of e^-p data per experiment, taken in the years 1994-2000, the H1 and ZEUS collaborations have derived new exclusion limits for the direct production of excited fermion states and leptoquarks. The latter are searched for in different decay channels, including lepton-flavor violating decays. The production of R_P-violating squarks followed by leptoquark-like decays to lepton and quark is studied, as are cascade decays yielding multi-jet plus lepton sig…
Recent results on searches for new particles at the electron-proton collider HERA are reported. Based on roughly 40pb-1 of e^+p data taken in the years 1994-1997, the H1 and ZEUS collaborations have derived new exclusion limits for the direct production of excited fermion states and of leptoquarks in different decay channels, including lepton-flavor violating decays. The results of searches for contact interactions further constrain the parameter space for such particles and their couplings in the high-mass regime, where direct production is kinematically prohibited. Also preliminary analyses …

Results shown include (i) inclusive neutral and charged current cross sections and structure functions measurements at HERA-I, (ii) the impact of these measurements on parton density functions, on electroweak parameters and searches for new physics and (iii) the first results at HERA-II and its future prospects.
Recent results on searches for signals of physics beyond Standard Model at the ep collider HERA are reviewed. Limits obtained for contact interaction models, large extra dimensions and finite quark radius are presented. Searches for excited-fermion resonances yield unique limits on excited electrons and neutrinos. Finally, measurement of W production cross section in ep collision is presented.
The production of the excited charm mesons D_1(2420) and D^*_2(2460) in ep collisions has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 373 pb^{-1}. The masses of the neutral and charged states, the widths of the neutral states, and the helicity parameter of D_1(2420)^{0} were determined and compared with other measurements and with theoretical expectations. The measured helicity parameter of the D^0_1 allows for some mixing of S- and D-waves in its decay to D^{*\pm}π^{\mp}. The result is also consistent with a pure D-wave decay. Ratios of branching fractions o…
Recent results from H1 and ZEUS on searches for exotic baryons in $ep$ collisions at HERA are reviewed. Evidence for the production of the strange pentaquark $Θ^+$ and of a narrow anti-charmed baryon decaying to $D^{*-} p$ together with negative results of pentaquark searches at HERA are presented.
The production of tau leptons in ep collisions is investigated using data recorded by the H1 detector at HERA in the period 1994-2000. Tau leptons are identified by detecting their decay products, using leptonic and hadronic decay modes. The cross section for the production of tau lepton pairs is measured for the first time at HERA. Furthermore, a search for events with an energetic isolated tau lepton and with large missing transverse momentum is performed. The results are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model predictions.
Multi-electron and multi-muon production have been measured at high transverse momentum in electron-proton collisions at HERA.Good overall agreement is found with the Standard Model predictions, dominated by photon-photon interactions. Events are observed with a di-electron mass above 100 GeV, a domain where the Standard Model prediction is low.
Forward jet and multijet production has been measured at low Bjorken x at HERA. The measured cross sections and correlations were compared to predictions from DGLAP-based fixed-order calculations. Further comparisons were made to DGLAP-based and CCFM-based leading-order Monte Carlo predictions, as well as to Colour-Dipole model predictions. For the majority of the phase space covered in the HERA kinematic region, fixed-order calculations describe the data well, while the leading-order models provide an inconsistent description of the data.
In this talk a search for the single production of top quarks performed at the H1 experiment is presented. No evidence for anomalous top production via FCNC processes is found and limits on the anomalous magnetic coupling constant κ_{tuγ} are given.
A direct search has been made for magnetic monopoles produced in e^+ p collisions at a centre of mass energy of 300 GeV at HERA. The beam pipe surrounding the interaction region in 1995-1997 was investigated using a SQUID magnetometer to look for stopped magnetic monopoles. During this time an integrated luminosity of 62 pb^{-1} was delivered. No magnetic monopoles were observed and charge and mass dependent upper limits on the e^+ p production cross section are set.
Events with a final-state proton carrying a large fraction of the proton-beam momentum, x_L>0.6, and the square of the transverse momentum p_T^2 <0.5 GeV^2, have been studied in e^+p collisions with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Data with different photon virtualities were used: Q^2<0.02 GeV^2, 0.1 <Q^2<0.74 GeV^2 and 3<Q^2<254 GeV^2.
Recent spectroscopy studies performed in high energy ep collisions by the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations are described. The status of the searches for the strange pentaquark, the Theta+, is presented as well as results on searches for further exotic states such as the Sigma--. The evidence for the observation of a pentaquark state containing the charmed quark, the Theta_c, is discussed and the result is given on searches for glueball candidates at HERA.
The results of complementary tests of perturbative QCD in DIS at large centre-of-mass energies at HERA are presented. The analysis of event shape variables allows for the investigation of approaches to understand aspects of non-perturbative QCD such as the formation of the hadronic final state. The strong coupling constant, $α_s$, is extracted from both inclusive jet cross sections and dijet rates and is found to be competitive with the world average.
A search for first generation scalar and vector leptoquarks produced in ep collisions is performed by the H1 experiment at HERA. The full H1 data sample is used in the analysis, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 446 pb^-1. No evidence for the production of leptoquarks is observed in final states with a large transverse momentum electron or with large missing transverse momentum, and constraints on leptoquark models are derived. For leptoquark couplings of electromagnetic strength lambda=0.3, first generation leptoquarks with masses up to 800 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.
Multi-electron production is studied at high electron transverse momentum in positron- and electron-proton collisions using the H1 detector at HERA. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 115 pb-1. Di-electron and tri-electron event yields are measured. Cross sections are derived in a restricted phase space region dominated by photon-photon collisions. In general good agreement is found with the Standard Model predictions. However, for electron pair invariant masses above 100 GeV, three di-electron events and three tri-electron events are observed, compared to Standard Model expect…
Production of final states containing open charm and beauty quarks at HERA is reviewed. Photoproduction (PHP) of the charm meson resonances D^*, D^0 and D_s, as well as D^* production in the deep inelastic scattering (DIS) regime, are measured and compared to QCD predictions. The excited charm mesons D^0_1(2420), D^{*0}_2(2460) and D^{+-}_{s1}(2536) have been observed and the rates of charm quarks hadronising to these mesons were extracted. A search for radially excited charm mesons has been performed. PHP and DIS beauty cross sections are higher than expected in next-to-leading order QCD.
The HERA collider with its center of mass energy of 318 GeV makes it possible to study a wide range of electroweak physics as well as to search for physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). In this article, recent results, obtained by the two collider experiments H1 and ZEUS, are reviewed. The cross sections for inclusive neutral current and charged current processes are shown, and results from a combined electroweak and QCD analysis of the data are discussed. Selected results from searches for physics beyond the SM are presented.
At HERA, new physics processes beyond the SM are probed in e^+/- proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 300-318 GeV. Recent results on searches obtained by the H1 and ZEUS experiments are presented with an emphasis on data taken in e^-p collisions in the years 1998/99 and in e^+p collisions in the years 1999 and 2000.
Properties of the hadronic final state in photoproduction events with large transverse energy are studied at the electron-proton collider HERA. Distributions of the transverse energy, jets and underlying event energy are compared to $\overline{p}p$ data and QCD calculations. The comparisons show that the $γp$ events can be consistently described by QCD models including -- in addition to the primary hard scattering process -- interactions between the two beam remnants. The differential jet cross sections $dσ/dE_T^{jet}$ and $dσ/dη^{jet}$ are measured.
Inclusive production of K0S K0S in ep collisions was studied with the ZEUS detector. Significant production of JPC=2++ tensor mesons and of the 0++ glueball candidate f0(1710) was seen. Masses and widths were compared with previous experiments. The H1 Collaboration saw a charm pentaquark candidate in the D*p spectrum at 3.1 GeV, which was not confirmed by a ZEUS higher statistics search. With the full HERA data, H1 did not see a signal in this region. Masses, widths and helicity parameters of excited charm and charm-strange mesons were measured by ZEUS. Rates of c-quarks hadronising into these…

They were performed on a data sample collected in the period 1994-2004 by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. The data have been analysed searching for leptoquarks, light gravitinos in R-parity violating supersymmetric models and magnetic monopoles. We have searched for the production of a selectron and a squark in $e^+p$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 300 GeV using the ZEUS detector at HERA. The selectron and squark are sought in the direct decay into the lightest neutralino in the framework of supersymmetric extensions to the Standard Model which conserve R-parity. No evidence for the production of supersymmetric particles has been found in a data sample corresponding to 46.6~pb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. We express upper limits on the product of the cross section times the decay branching ratios as excluded regions in t…
The analysis of events with isolated leptons and missing transverse momentum in the H1 experiment is discussed for the electron, muon and tau channels. In the Standard Model (SM) framework, production of real W-bosons gives rise to such topologies. Contributions to the background are dominated by QCD processes. An excess of observed signal over background presents a chance of the discovery of new physics. The results using the HERA 1994-2006 data set corresponding to 341 pb^-1 are presented. While the e- p sample shows good agreement between data and SM expectation, in e+ p collisions an exces…

The results are in good agreement with Standard Model predictions, the dominant process being photon-photon interactions. Additional muons or electrons are searched for in events with two high transverse momentum muons using the full data sample corresponding to 114 pb^-1, where data at sqrt{s} = 301 GeV and sqrt{s} = 319 GeV are combine…
Inclusive K0SK0S production in ep collisions at HERA was studied with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 0.5 fb-1. Enhancements in the mass spectrum were observed and are attributed to the production of f2(1270)/a02(1320), f'2(1525) and f0(1710). Masses and widths were obtained using a fit which takes into account theoretical predictions based on SU(3) symmetry arguments, and are consistent with the PDG values. The f0(1710) state, which has a mass consistent with a glueball candidate, was observed with a statistical significance of 5 standard deviations. However, if this state…
A search for scalar and vector leptoquarks coupling to first generation fermions is performed in the H1 experiment at the ep collider HERA. The analysis uses e^- p data collected in 1998 and 1999 at a centre-of-mass energy of 320 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 15 pb^-1. No evidence for the direct production of such particles is found in a data sample with a large transverse momentum final state electron or with large missing transverse momentum, and constraints on leptoquark models are established. For a Yukawa coupling of electromagnetic strength leptoquarks are excluded fo…
An overview of the recent results on strangeness production and spectroscopy from the electron-proton collider experiments H1 and ZEUS at HERA is presented. Production of particles with light and strange quarks is discussed and compared with both theoretical predictions and with data from e+e- experiments. Measurements in the charm sector cover studies of the radially and orbitally excited charm states. Finally, the investigation of exotic states in the strangeness sector at HERA is reviewed.
A search has been made for lepton-flavor-violating interactions, e+ p -> mu/tau X, at a center-of-mass energy of 300 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 47.7 pb^-1 using the ZEUS detector at HERA. No evidence was found for lepton-flavor violation and constraints were derived on leptoquarks that could mediate such interactions. Some of the constraints are also applicable to lepton-flavor-violating processes mediated by squarks in R-parity-violating supersymmetric models. In some cases involving heavy quarks and especially for the tau channel, the ZEUS constraints are the most stringent publish…
The measured D*+/-, D0, D+/-, D_s+/- and /\_c+/- photoproduction cross sections have been used to determine charm fragmentation ratios and fractions of c quarks hadronising as a particular charm hadron, f(c -> D, /\_c). Events with a D*+/- meson produced in association with an energetic jet have been used to measure the charm fragmentation function. The results are compared with different models and with previous measurements.

No evidence for lepton flavour violation is found. Limits are derived on the mass and the couplings of leptoquarks inducing lepton flavour violation in an extension of the Buchm"uller-R"uckl-Wyler effective model. Leptoquarks produced in ep c…
A resonance search has been made in the D^*+/- p^-/+ invariant-mass spectrum with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 126 pb^-1. The decay channels D^*+ -> D^0 pi^+_s -> (K^- pi^+) pi^+_s and D^*+ -> D^0 pi^+_s -> (K^- pi^+ pi^+ pi^-) pi^+_s (and the corresponding antiparticle decays) were used to identify D^*+/- mesons. No resonance structure was observed in the D^*+/- p^-/+ mass spectrum from more than 60000 reconstructed D^*+/- mesons. The results are not compatible with a report of the H1 Collaboration of a charmed pentaquark, Theta^0_c.

The cross section sigma(ep --> D*X) integrated over the kinematic region pt(D*) > 3 GeV and -1.5 < eta(D*) < 1.0 is (10.6+-1.7(stat.)+1.6(syst.)-1.3(syst.)) nb. Differential cross sections as functions of pt(D*), eta(D*) and W are given. The data are compared with two next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions. For a calculation using a massive charm scheme the predicted cross …
We report the latest results of the ZEUS collaboration on the photoproduction of D* mesons in a low W range. Differential cross sections as function of pt(D*) and eta(D*) are measured and compared with several recent NLO pQCD calculations. The differential cross-sections in a restricted kinematical region are higher than the NLO calculations, in particular in the forward (proton) direction. A recent pQCD model (BKL) describes the data reasonably well.

Deep inelastic scattering (DIS) events, selected from 1993 data taken by the H1 experiment at HERA, are studied in the Breit frame of reference. The fragmentation function of the quark is compared with those of \ee data. It is shown that certain aspects of the quarks emerging from within the proton in \ep interactions are essentially the same as those of quarks pair-created from the vacuum in \ee annihilation. The measured area, peak position and widthof the fragmentation function show that the kinematic evolution variable, equivalent to the \ee squared centre of mass energy, is in the Breit f…

The searches use data samples of ep collisions with a centre-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=320 GeV collected by the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA in the years 1994-2005 with integrated luminosities up to 296 pb^-1. Overall no significant deviations of the experimental observations from the Standard Model (SM) expectation are found.
Diffractive photoproduction of dijets was measured with the ZEUS detector at the ep collider HERA using an integrated luminosity of 77.2 pb-1. The measurements were made in the kinematic range Q^2 < 1 GeV^2, 0.20 < y < 0.85 and x_pom < 0.025, where Q^2 is the photon virtuality, y is the inelasticity and x_pom is the fraction of the proton momentum taken by the diffractive exchange. The two jets with the highest transverse energy, E_T^jet, were required to satisfy E_T^jet > 7.5 and 6.5 GeV, respectively, and to lie in the pseudorapidity range -1.5 < eta^jet < 1.5. Differential cross sections we…
