In this note we propose a definition of weak solution for an abstract Cauchy problem in a Hilbert space, and we discuss existence and uniqueness results.
We deal with a class of semilinear nonlocal differential equations in Hilbert spaces which is a general model for some anomalous diffusion equations. By using the theory of integral equations with completely positive kernel together with local estimates, some existence, regularity and stability results are established. An application to nonlocal partial differential equations is shown to demonstrate our abstract results.
A first order differential equation with a periodic operator coefficient acting in a pair of Hilbert spaces is considered. This setting models both elliptic equations with periodic coefficients in a cylinder and parabolic equations with time periodic coefficients. Our main results are a construction of a pointwise projector and a spectral splitting of the system into a finite dimensional system of ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients and an infinite dimensional part whose solutions have better properties in a certain sense. This complements the well-known asymptotic resul…
We introduce a notion of weak solution for abstract fractional differential equations, motivated by the definition of Caputo derivative. We prove existence results for weak and strong solutions. We also give two examples as application of our results: time-fractional wave equations and time-fractional Petrovsky systems.
A logarithmic type Harnack inequality is established for the semigroup of solutions to a stochastic differential equation in Hilbert spaces with non-additive noise. As applications, the strong Feller property as well as the entropy-cost inequality for the semigroup are derived with respect to the corresponding distance (cost function).
In this paper, we consider a class of fractional integro-differential inclusions in Hilbert spaces. This paper deals with the approximate controllability for a class of fractional integro-differential control systems. First, we establishes a set of sufficient conditions for the approximate controllability for a class of fractional semilinear integro-differential inclusions in Hilbert spaces. We use Bohnenblust-Karlin's fixed point theorem to prove our main results. Further, we extend the result to study the approximate controllability concept with nonlocal conditions. An example is also given …
In this work we study the long time behavior of nonlinear stochastic functional-differential equations in Hilbert spaces. In particular, we start with establishing the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions. We proceed with deriving a priory uniform in time bounds for the solutions in the appropriate Hilbert spaces. These bounds enable us to establish the existence of invariant measure based on Krylov-Bogoliubov theorem on the tightness of the family of measures. Finally, under certain assumptions on nonlinearities, we establish the uniqueness of invariant measures.
In this paper, we consider a class of second-order evolution differential inclusions in Hilbert spaces. This paper deals with the approximate controllability for a class of second-order control systems. First, we establish a set of sufficient conditions for the approximate controllability for a class of second-order evolution differential inclusions in Hilbert spaces. We use Bohnenblust-Karlin's fixed point theorem to prove our main results. Further, we extend the result to study the approximate controllability concept with nonlocal conditions and extend the result to study the approximate con…
Many time-dependent linear partial differential equations of mathematical physics and continuum mechanics can be phrased in the form of an abstract evolutionary system defined on a Hilbert space. In this paper we discuss a general framework for homogenization (periodic and stochastic) of such systems. The method combines a unified Hilbert space approach to evolutionary systems with an operator-theoretic reformulation of the well-established periodic unfolding method in homogenization. Regarding the latter, we introduce a well-structured family of unitary operators on a Hilbert space that allow…
On Wave-Like Differential Equations in General Hilbert Space. The Functional Analytic Investigation of Euler-Bernoulli Bending Vibrations of a Beam as an Application in Engineering Science
For a sequence of uniformly bounded, degenerate semigroups on a Hilbert space, we compare various types of convergences to a limit semigroup. Among others, we show that convergence of the semigroups, or of the resolvents of the generators, in the weak operator topology, in the strong operator topology or in certain integral norms are equivalent under certain natural assumptions which are frequently met in applications.
We propose a novel weak solution theory for the Mullins-Sekerka equation primarily motivated from a gradient flow perspective. Previous existence results on weak solutions due to Luckhaus and Sturzenhecker (Calc. Var. PDE 3, 1995) or Röger (SIAM J. Math. Anal. 37, 2005) left open the inclusion of both a sharp energy dissipation principle and a weak formulation of the contact angle at the intersection of the interface and the domain boundary. To incorporate these, we introduce a functional framework encoding a weak solution concept for Mullins-Sekerka flow essentially relying only on (i) a sing…
A new method of determining Bäcklund transformations for nonlinear partial differential equations of the evolution type is introduced. Using the Hilbert space approach the problem of finding Bäcklund transformations is brought down to the solution of an abstract equation in Hilbert space.
We generalize some classical results for the Schlesinger system of partial differential equations and give the explicit form of its solution, associated with rational matrix functions in general position.

A novel approach to Riemann--Hilbert problems of particular class is introduced. The approach is applicable to problems in which the multiplicative jump is set on a half-line. Such problems are linked to some Wiener--Hopf problems motivated by diffraction theory. The new approach is based on ordinary differential equations: the Riemann--Hilbert problem is reduced to finding a coefficient of an ordinary differential equation and solving this equation. The new method leads to an efficient numerical algorithm and opens a road to new asymptotical and analytical advances.
We prove global and local versions of the so-called div-curl-lemma, a crucial result in the homogenization theory of partial differential equations, for mixed boundary conditions on bounded weak Lipschitz domains in 3D with weak Lipschitz interfaces. We will generalize our results using an abstract Hilbert space setting, which shows corresponding results to hold in arbitrary dimensions as well as for various differential operators. The crucial tools and the core of our arguments are Hilbert complexes and related compact embeddings.
In this paper, we consider evolution problems involving time dependent maximal monotone operators in Hilbert spaces. Existence and relaxation theorems are proved.
We generalize the notion of harmonic conjugate functions and Hilbert transforms to higher dimensional euclidean spaces, in the setting of differential forms and the Hodge-Dirac system. These conjugate functions are in general far from being unique, but under suitable boundary conditions we prove existence and uniqueness of conjugates. The proof also yields invertibility results for a new class of generalized double layer potential operators on Lipschitz surfaces and boundedness of related Hilbert transforms.
A matrix factorization problem is considered. The matrix to be factorized is algebraic, has dimension 2 X 2 and belongs to Moiseev's class. A new method of factorization is proposed. First, the matrix factorization problem is reduced to a Riemann-Hilbert problem using the Hurd's method. Secondly, the Riemann-Hilbert problem is embedded into a family of Riemann-Hilbert problems indexed by a variable b taking values on a half-line. A linear ordinary differential equation (ODE1) with respect to b is derived. The coefficient of this equation remains unknown at this step. Finally, the coefficient o…
We consider a large class of self-adjoint elliptic problem associated with the second derivative acting on a space of vector-valued functions. We present two different approaches to the study of the associated eigenvalues problems. The first, more general one allows to replace a secular equation (which is well-known in some special cases) by an abstract rank condition. The latter seems to apply particularly well to a specific boundary condition, sometimes dubbed "anti-Kirchhoff" in the literature, that arise in the theory of differential operators on graphs; it also permits to discuss interest…
