We present high-quality angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) and density functional theory calculations (DFT+U) of SmCoIn$_5$. We find broad agreement with previously published studies of LaCoIn$_5$ and CeCoIn$_5$, confirming that the Sm $4f$ electrons are mostly localized. Nevertheless, our model is consistent with an additional delocalized Sm component, stemming from hybridization between the $4f$ electrons and the metallic bands at "hot spot" positions in the Brillouin zone. The dominant hot spot, called $γ_Z$, is similar to a source of delocalized $f$ states found in previous experimental and theoretical studies of CeCoIn$_5$. In this work, we identify and focus on the role of the Co $d$ states in exploring the relationship between heavy quasiparticles and the magnetic interactions in SmCoIn$_5$, which lead to a magnetically ordered ground state from within an intermediate valence scenario. Specifically, we find a globally flat band consisting of Co $d$ states near $E=-0.7$ eV, indicating the possibility of enhanced electronic and magnetic interactions in the "115" family of materials through localization in the Co layer, and we discuss a possible origin in geometric frustration. We also show that the delocalized Sm $4f$ states can hybridize directly with the Co $3d_{xz}$/$3d_{yz}$ orbitals, which occurs in our model at the Brillouin zone boundary point $R$ in a band that is locally flat and touches the Fermi level from above. Our work identifies microscopic ingredients for additional magnetic interactions in the "115" materials beyond the RKKY mechanism, and strongly suggests that the Co $d$ bands are an important ingredient in the formation of both magnetic and superconducting ground states.
The topology of the Fermi surface of an extended $d-p$ Hubbard model is investigated using the Green's function technique in a n-pole approximation. The effects of the $d-p$ hybridization on the Fermi surface are the main focus in the present work. Nevertheless, the effects of doping, Coulomb interaction and hopping to second-nearest-neighbors on the Fermi surface, are also studied. Particularly, it is shown that the crossover from hole-like to electron-like Fermi surface (Lifshitz transition) is deeply affected by the $d-p$ hybridization. Moreover, the pseudogap present in the low doping regi…
We use high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to investigate the electronic structure of the antiferromagnetic heavy fermion compound CePt2In7, which is a member of the CeIn3-derived heavy fermion material family. Weak hybridization among 4f electron states and conduction bands was identified in CePt2In7 at low temperature much weaker than that in the other heavy fermion compounds like CeIrIn5 and CeRhIn5. The Ce 4f spectrum shows fine structures near the Fermi energy, reflecting the crystal electric field splitting of the 4f^1_5/2 and 4f^1_7/2 states. Also, we find that the…
Plaquette lattices with each unit cell containing multiple atoms are good candidates for disconnected Fermi surfaces, which are shown by Kuroki and Arita to be favorable for spin-flucutation mediated superconductivity from electron repulsion. Here we find an interesting example in a tetramer lattice where the structure within each unit cell dominates the nodal structure of the gap function. We trace its reason to the way in which a Cooper pair is formed across the hybridized molecular orbitals, where we still end up with a T_c much higher than usual.
The Fermi surface (FS) of an extended $d-p$ Hubbard model is investigated by a two-pole approximation in both situations with hole and electron doping. Using the factorization procedure proposed by Beenen and Edwards, superconductivity with singlet $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave pairing is considered. The effects of the $d-p$ hybridization on the FS are the main focus in the present work. Nevertheless, the asymmetries between the hole- and electron-doped regimes and the effects of doping and Coulomb interaction on FS are also investigated. Particularly, it is shown that the crossover from hole-like to ele…
We systemically investigate the nature of Ce 4f electrons in structurally layered heavy-fermion compounds CcmMnIn3m+2n (with M =Co, Rh, Ir, and Pt, m=l, 2, n=0 - 2), at low temperature using on-resonance angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Three heavy quasiparticle bands f^0, f^1_7/2 and f^1_5/2 are observed in all compounds, but their intensities and energy locations vary greatly with materials. The strong f^0 states imply that the localized electron behavior dominates the Ce 4f states. The Ce 4f electrons are partially hybridized with the conduction electrons, making them have the dua…
High-resolution laser-based angle-resolved photoemission measurements have been carried out on Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (Bi2212) and Bi$_2$Sr$_{2-x}$La$_x$CuO$_{6+δ}$ (Bi2201) superconductors. Unexpected hybridization between the main band and the superstructure band in Bi2212 is clearly revealed. In the momentum space where one main Fermi surface intersects with one superstructure Fermi surface, four bands are observed instead of two. The hybridization exists in both superconducting state and normal state, and in Bi2212 samples with different doping levels. Such a hybridization is not ob…
We have investigated the low-energy electronic structure of the heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 by angle-resolved photoemission. We focus on the dispersion and the peak width of the prominent quasi-two-dimensional Fermi surface sheet at the corner of the Brillouin zone as a function of temperature along certain k-directions with a photon energy of hn = 100 eV. We find slight changes of the Fermi vector and an anomalous broadening of the peak width when the Fermi energy is approached. Additionally we performed resonant ARPES experiments with hn = 121 eV. A flat f-derived band is observed w…
Ce 3d-4f resonant angle-resolved photoemission measurements on CeCoGe$_{1.2}$Si$_{0.8}$ and CeCoSi$_{2}$ have been performed to understand the Fermi surface topology as a function of hybridization strength between Ce 4$f$- and conduction electrons in heavy-fermion systems. We directly observe that the hole-like Ce 4$f$-Fermi surfaces of CeCoSi$_{2}$ is smaller than that of CeCoGe$_{1.2}$Si$_{0.8}$, indicating the evolution of the Ce 4$f$-Fermi surface with the increase of the hybridization strength. In comparision with LDA calculation, the Fermi surface variation cannot be understood even thou…
We utilized high-resolution resonant angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) to study the band structure and hybridization effect of the heavy-fermion compound Ce2IrIn8. We observe a nearly flat band at the binding energy of 7 meV below the coherent temperature Tcoh ~ 40 K, which characterizes the electrical resistance maximum indicating the onset temperature of hybridization. However, the Fermi vector kF and the Fermi surface (FS) volume have little change around Tcoh, challenging the widely believed evolution from a high-temperature small FS to a low-temperature large FS. Our exper…
We use the X-boson method to study the heavy fermion superconductivity employing an extension of the periodic Anderson model in the $ U = \infty $ limit with a nearest neighbor attractive interaction between the localized $ f $-electrons and we show that higher values of the hybridization parameter implies in lower values associated to the maximum of the superconducting critical temperature $ T_{c} $, indicating that the real charge transfer between bands tends to destabilizes the Cooper pairing. Moreover, we show that superconductivity are constrained to the vicinity of a range of occupations…
The study of multi-band superconductivity is relevant for a variety of systems, from ultra cold atoms with population imbalance to particle physics, and condensed matter. As a consequence, this problem has been widely investigated bringing to light many new and interesting phenomena. In this work we point out and explore a correspondence between a two-band metal with a $k$-dependent hybridization and a uniformly polarized fermionic system in the presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC). We study the ground state phase diagram of the metal in the presence of an attractive interaction. We find rema…
The importance of taking into account inter-site $f-f$ hybridization in electron structure calculations for Ce metal and cerium heavy fermion compounds was studied. We demonstrate that for heavy-fermion systems such as cerium compound CeCu$_2$Si$_2$ $f-f$ hybridization can be neglected and Anderson model application is well justified. On another hand for cerium metal $f-f$ hybridization is strong enough to provide the contribution to hybridization function comparable to hybridization between $4f$ and itinerant electrons. We argue that in the case of Ce only the most general Hamiltonian combini…
In heavy-fermion compounds, f electrons show both itinerant and localized behaviour depending on the external conditions, and the hybridization between localized f electrons and itinerant conduction bands gives rise to their exotic properties like heavy-fermions, magnetic orders and unconventional superconductivity. Duo to the risk of handling radioactive actinide materials, the direct experimental evidence of the band structure evolution across the localized-itinerant and magnetic transitions for 5f electrons is lacking. Here, by using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy, we revealed th…
A Kondo lattice of strongly interacting f-electrons immersed in a sea of conduction electrons remains one of the unsolved problems in condensed matter physics. The problem concerns localized f-electrons at high temperatures which evolve into hybridized heavy quasi-particles at low temperatures, resulting in the appearance of a hybridization gap. Here, we unveil the presence of hybridization gap in Ce2RhIn8 and find the surprising result that the temperature range at which this gap becomes visible by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy is nearly an order of magnitude lower than the temper…
We report angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first-principles numerical calculations for the band structure evolution of the 3d heavy-fermion compound CaCu3Ru4O12. Below 200 K, we observed an emergent hybridization gap between the Cu 3d electron-like band and the Ru 4d hole-like band and the resulting flat band features near the Fermi energy centered around the Brillouin zone corner. Our results confirm the non-Kondo nature of CaCu3Ru4O12, in which the Cu 3dxy electrons are less correlated and not in the Kondo limit. Comparison between theory and experiment also suggests that other …
Microscopic models for heavy-fermion materials often assume a local, i.e., momentum-independent, hybridization between the conduction band and the local-moment f electrons. Motivated by recent experiments, we consider situations where this neglect of momentum dependence is inappropriate, namely when the hybridization function has nodes in momentum space. We explore the thermodynamic and optical properties of the highly anisotropic heavy Fermi liquid, resulting from Kondo screening in a higher angular-momentum channel. The dichotomy in momentum space has interesting consequences: While e.g. the…
We study the effects of hybridization between the two electron pockets in Fe-based superconductors with s-wave gap with accidental nodes. We argue that hybridization reconstructs the Fermi surfaces and also induces an additional inter-pocket pairing component. We analyze how these two effects modify the gap structure by tracing the position of the nodal points of the energy dispersions in the superconducting state. We find three possible outcomes. In the first, the nodes simply shift their positions in the Brillouin zone; in the second, the nodes merge and disappear, in which case the gap func…
We study two-band one-dimensional superconducting chains of spinless fermions with inter and intra-band pairing. These bands hybridize and depending on the relative angular momentum of their orbitals this can be symmetric or anti-symmetric. The competition between intra and inter-band superconductivity and how it is affected by the symmetry of the hybridization is investigated. The interband pairing is shown to be dominant on a large region of parameter space. A rich phase diagram is found in the presence of anti-symmetric hybridization. The topological properties of the model are obtained thr…
The Fermi surface (FS) nesting properties of URu$_2$Si$_2$ are analyzed with particular focus on their implication for the mysterious hidden order phase. We show that there exist two Fermi surfaces that exhibit a strong nesting at the antiferromagnetic wavevector, $\boldsymbol{Q}_0$=(0,\,0,\,1). The corresponding energy dispersions fulfill the relation $ε_{1}(\boldsymbol{k})$=$- ε_{2} (\boldsymbol{k}\pm \boldsymbol{Q}_0)$ at eight FS hotspot lines. The spin-orbital characters of the involved $5f$ states are {\it distinct} ($j_z$=$\pm$5/2 {\it vs.} $\pm$3/2) and hence the degenerate Dirac cross…
We present the exact solution of a one-dimensional model of a spin-gapped correlated electron system with hybridization impurities exhibiting both magnetic and mixed-valence properties. The host supports superconducting fluctuations, with a spin gap. The localized electrons create a band of antiferromagnetic spin excitations inside the gap for concentrations x of the impurities below some critical value x_c. When x = x_c the spin gap closes and a ferrimagnetic phase appears. This is the first example of an exactly solvable model with coexisting superconducting and antiferromagnetic fluctuation…
We use the density matrix renormalization group method to study the properties of the one-dimensional Kondo-Heisenberg model doped with Kondo holes. We find that the perturbation of the Kondo holes to the local hybridization exhibits spatial oscillation pattern and its amplitude decays exponentially with distance away from the Kondo hole sites. The hybridization oscillation is correlated with both the charge density oscillation of the conduction electrons and the oscillation in the correlation function of the Heisenberg spins. In particular, we find that the oscillation wavelength for intermed…
We present results from point-contact spectroscopy of the antiferromagnetic heavy-fermion superconductor UPd$_2$Al$_3$: conductance spectra are taken from single crystals with two major surface orientations as a function of temperature and magnetic field, and analyzed using a theory of co-tunneling into an Anderson lattice. Spectroscopic signatures are clearly identified including the distinct asymmetric double-peak structure arising from the opening of a hybridization gap when a coherent heavy Fermi liquid is formed. Both the hybridization gap, found to be 7.2 $\pm$ 0.3 meV at 4 K, and the co…
Multi-band systems as intermetallic and heavy fermion compounds have quasi-particles arising from different orbitals at their Fermi surface. Since these quasi-particles have different masses or densities, there is a natural mismatch of the Fermi wave-vectors associated with different orbitals. This makes these materials potential candidates to observe exotic superconducting phases as Sarma or FFLO phases, even in the absence of an external magnetic field. The distinct orbitals coexisting at the Fermi surface are generally hybridized and their degree of mixing can be controlled by external pres…
We investigate the anomalous metal arising by hole doping the Mott insulating state of the periodic Anderson model. Using Dynamical Mean-Field Theory we show that, as opposed to the electron-doped case, in the hole-doped regime the hybridization between localized and delocalized orbitals leads to the formation of composite quasi-particles reminiscent of the Zhang-Rice singlets. We compute the coherence temperature of this state, showing its exponentially small value at low dopings. As a consequence the weakly-doped Mott state deviates from the predictions of Fermi-liquid theory already at smal…
The low-carrier ordered phase below the metal-non-metal transition temperature T_MI ~ 63 K of PrRu4P12 is explored by probing magnetoresistance, magnetic susceptibility, thermoelectric power, and Hall effect on high quality single crystals. All the measured properties exhibit the signature of decimation of the Fermi surface below T_MI and anomalous behaviors below 30 K including a large thermoelectric power ~-200 uV/K and a giant negative magnetoresistance (93% at ~0.4 K). The results indicate an additional structure below 30 K and a semimetal-like ground state. The observed anomalous behavior…
Spin- and angle-resolved resonant (Ce $4d\to4f$) photoemission spectra of a monolayer Ce on Fe(110) reveal spin-dependent changes of the Fermi-level peak intensities. That indicate a spin-dependence of $4f$ hybridization and, thus, of $4f$ occupancy and local moment. The phenomenon is described in the framework of the periodic Anderson model by $4f$ electron hopping into the exchange split Fe 3d derived bands that form a spin-gap at the Fermi energy around the $\barΓ$ point of the surface Brillouin zone.
We analyze non-Fermi liquid (NFL) properties along a line of critical points in a two-channel Anderson model with phonon-assisted hybridizations. We succeed in identifying hidden nonmagnetic SO(5) degrees of freedom for valence-fluctuation regime and analyze the model on the basis of boundary conformal field theory. We find that the NFL spectra along the critical line, which is the same as those in the two-channel Kondo model, can be alternatively derived by a fusion in the nonmagnetic SO(5) sector. The leading irrelevant operators near the NFL fixed points vary as a function of Coulomb repuls…
A spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Kitaev sublattice interacting with a subsystem of spinless fermions is studied on a honeycomb lattice when the fermion band is half filled. The model Hamiltonian describes a topological Kondo lattice with the Kitaev interaction, it is solved exactly by reduction to free Majorana fermions in a static $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge field. An yet unsolved problem of a hybridization of fermions and local moments in the Kondo lattice at low temperatures is solved in the framework of the model proposed. The Kondo hybridization gap is opened and the system is fixed in insulator and spin in…
Hybridization between $f$ electrons and conduction bands ($c$-$f$ hybridization) is a driving force for many unusual phenomena. To provide insight into it, systematic studies of CeCoIn$_5$ heavy fermion superconductor have been performed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) in a large angular range at temperature of $T=6$ K. The used photon energy of 122 eV corresponds to Ce $4d$-$4f$ resonance. Calculations carried out with relativistic multiple scattering Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method and one-step model of photoemission yielded realistic simulation of the ARPES spectra indica…
We investigate the evolution of the heavy fermion ground state under application of a strong external magnetic field. We present a richer version of the usual hybridization mean field theory that allows for hybridization in both the singlet and triplet channels and incorporates a self-consistent Weiss field. We show that for a magnetic field strength B*, a filling-dependent fraction of the zero-field hybridization gap, the spin up quasiparticle band becomes fully polarized--an event marked by a sudden jump in the magnetic susceptibility. The system exhibits a kind of quantum rigidity in which …
The intermediate valence compound YbAl$_3$ is known to undergo a hybridization process between itinerant and localized electrons. The resulting heavy Fermi liquid remains non-magnetic and non-superconducting. A microscopic understanding of the hybridization process in YbAl$_3$ is still lacking although some characteristic temperature and energy scales have been identified. Here we report results from novel spectroscopic measurements based on quasiparticle scattering. From the conductance spectra taken over a wide temperature range, we deduce that the band renormalization and hybridization proc…
We study the Kondo resonance in a spin-1/2 single impurity Anderson model with a gapless conduction band using the equation of motion approach in order to obtain the impurity spectral function. We study two different scenarios for gapless systems: a purely power-law energy dependence of the density of states or a constant density of states with a gapless behavior near the Fermi level. We demonstrate that strong electron-electron correlations lead to a sharp peak in the impurity spectral function in the case of a large exchange coupling ($J>J_{c}$) or equivalently, a strong hybridization ($V>V_…
High magnetic fields induce a pronounced in-plane electronic anisotropy in the tetragonal antiferromagnetic metal CeRhIn$_{5}$ at $H^{*} \gtrsim 30$ T for fields $\simeq 20^{\mathrm{o}}$ off the $c$-axis. Here we investigate the response of the underlying crystal lattice in magnetic fields to $45$ T via high-resolution dilatometry. Within the antiferromagnetic phase of CeRhIn$_{5}$, a finite magnetic field component in the tetragonal $ab$-plane explicitly breaks the tetragonal ($C_{4}$) symmetry of the lattice well below $H^{*}$ revealing a finite nematic susceptibility at low fields. A modest…
Heavy fermion compounds exhibiting a ferromagnetic quantum critical point have attracted considerable interest. Common to two known cases, i.e., CeRh$_6$Ge$_4$ and YbNi$_4$P$_2$, is that the 4f moments reside along chains with a large inter-chain distance, exhibiting strong magnetic anisotropy that was proposed to be vital for the ferromagnetic quantum criticality. Here we report an angle-resolved photoemission study on CeRh6Ge4, where we observe sharp momentum-dependent 4f bands and clear bending of the conduction bands near the Fermi level, indicating considerable hybridization between condu…
Tuning of the electronic properties of heavy fermion compounds by chemical substitutions provides excellent opportunities to further understand the physics of hybridized ions in crystal lattices. Here we present an investigation on the effects of Cd doping in flux-grown single crystals of the complex intermetallic cage compound YbFe$_{2}$Zn$_{20}$, that has been described as a heavy fermion with Sommerfeld coefficient of 535 mJ/mol.K$^{2}$. Substitution of Cd for Zn disturbs the system by expanding the unit cell and, in this case, the size of the Zn cages that surround Yb and Fe. With increasi…

The variation in the quasiparticle weight $Z$ on moving around the fermi surface in correlated metals is studied theoretically. Our primary example is a heavy Fermi liquid treated within the standard hybridization mean field theory. The most dramatic variation in the quasiparticle weight happens in situations where the hybridization vanishes along certain directions in momentum space. Such a "hybridization node" is demonstrated for a simplified model of a Cerium-based cubic heavy electron metal. We show that the quasiparticle weight varies from almost unity in some directions, to values approa…
We present a powerful and general approach to describe the coupling of Majorana fermions to external leads, of interacting or non-interacting electrons. Our picture has the Klein factors of bosonization appearing as extra Majoranas hybridizing with the physical ones. We demonstrate the power of this approach by solving a highly nontrivial SO(M) Kondo problem arising in topological superconductors with M Majorana-lead couplings, allowing for arbitrary M and for conduction electron interactions. We find that these topological Kondo problems give rise to robust non-Fermi liquid behavior, even for…
Kondo hybridization in partially filled f-electron systems conveys significant amount of electronic states sharply near the Fermi energy leading to various instabilities from superconductivity to exotic electronic orders. UGe2 is a 5f heavy fermion system, where the Kondo hybridization is interrupted by the formation of two ferromagnetic phases below a 2nd order transition Tc ~ 52 K and a crossover transition Tx ~ 32 K. These two ferromagnetic phases are concomitantly related to a spin-triplet superconductivity that only emerges and persists inside the magnetically ordered phase at high pressu…
This work investigates a d-p Hubbard model by the n-pole approximation in the hole-doped regime. In particular, the spectral function $A(ω,\vec{k})$ is analyzed varying the filling, the local Coulomb interaction and the $d-p$ hybridization. It should be remarked that the original n-pole approximation (Phys. Rev. 184 (1969) 451) has been improved in order to include adequately the $\vec{k}$-dependence of the important correlation function $< \vec{S}_j\cdot\vec{S}_i>$ present in the poles of the Green's functions. It has been verified that the topology of the Fermi surface (defined by $A(ω=0,\ve…
We studied the electronic structure of the Kondo lattice system Ce2Co0.8Si3.2 by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The spectra obtained below the coherence temperature consist of a Kondo resonance, its spin-orbit partner and a number of dispersing bands. The quasiparticle weight related to the Kondo peak depends strongly on Fermi vectors associated with bulk bands. This indicates a highly anisotropic hybridization between conduction band and 4f electrons - V_{cf} in Ce2Co0.8Si3.2.
We study the dopant-induced inhomogeneity effect on the electronic properties of heavy fermionCeCoIn5using a combined approach of density functional theory (DFT) and dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). The inhomogeneity of the hybridization between Ce-4fand conduction electrons is introduced to impose the inequivalent Ce atoms with respect to the dopant. From the DFT to the DFT+DMFT results, we demonstrate a variation of the hybridization strength depending on the hole or electron doping. A drastic asymmetric mass renormalization could be reproduced in the DFT+DMFT calculation. Finally, the ca…
Among the Cerium compounds, the heavier monochalcogenides CeY (Y=S,Se,Te) of cerium provide a class of compounds which together with the heavier monopnictides CeX (X=N,P,As,Sb,Bi) exhibit extremely interesting physical properties. The hybridization of the partially delocalized f-electrons seems to be responsible for the unusual properties, in particular the magnetic ones which show great chemical sensitivity. As compared to the monopnictides, the monochalcogenides have an additional anion p-electron which shifts the Fermi energy into the p-region of the Cerium 5d-derived density of states, and…
The heavy fermion state with Kondo-hybridization (KH), usually manifested in f-electron systems with lanthanide or actinide elements, was recently discovered in several 3d transition metal compounds without f-electrons. However, KH has not yet been observed in 4d/5d transition metal compounds, since more extended 4d/5d orbitals do not usually form flat bands that supply localized electrons appropriate for Kondo pairing. Here, we report a doping- and temperature-dependent angle-resolved photoemission study on 4d Ca2-xSrxRuO4, which shows the signature of KH. We observed a spectral weight transf…
A phenomenological model for the 'hidden order' transition in the heavy Fermion material URu$_2$Si$_2$ is introduced. The 'hidden order' is identified as an incommensurate, momentum-carrying hybridization between the light hole band and the heavy electron band. This modulated hybridization appears after a Fano hybridization at higher temperatures takes place. We focus on the hybridization wave as the order parameter in URu$_2$Si$_2$ and possibly other materials with similar band structures. The model is qualitatively consistent with numerous experimental results obtained from e.g. neutron scat…
The interaction between localized f and itinerant conduction electrons is crucial in the electronic properties of heavy fermion and valence fluctuating compounds. Using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we systematically investigate the electronic structure of the archetypical valence fluctuating compound EuNi2P2 that hosts multiple f electrons. At low temperatures, we reveal the hybridization between Eu 4f and Ni 3d states, which contributes to the electron mass enhancement, consistent with the periodic Anderson model. With increasing temperature, interestingly, we ob…
Single band theories of quantum criticality successfully describe a single-particle lifetime with non-Fermi liquid temperature dependence. But, they fail to obtain a charge transport rate with the same dependence unless the interaction is assumed to be momentum independent. Here we demonstrate that a quantum critical material, with a long range mode that transmutes electrons between light and heavy bands, exhibits a quasi-linear temperature dependence for {\it both} the single-particle and the charge transport lifetimes, despite the strong momentum dependence of the interaction.
Filled-skutterudite heavy fermion (HF) compounds host rich ground states depending on the f electron configurations. CeOs4Sb12 (COS) with Ce 4f1, and PrOs4Sb12 (POS) with Pr 4f2 configurations show distinct properties of Kondo insulating and HF superconductivity, respectivity. We unveiled the underlying microscopic origin by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy studies. Their eV-scale band structure matches well, representing the common characters of conduction electrons in ROs4Sb12 systems (R = rare earth). However, f electrons interact differently with conduction electrons in them. Stro…
We propose efficient measurement procedures for the self-energy and vertex function of the Anderson impurity model within the hybridization expansion continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo algorithm. The method is based on the measurement of higher-order correlation functions related to the quantities being sought through the equation of motion, a technique previously introduced in the NRG context. For the case of interactions of density-density type, the additional correlators can be obtained at essentially no additional computational cost. In combination with a recently introduced method for fi…
We propose that competition between Kondo and magnetic correlations results in a novel universality class for heavy fermion quantum criticality in the presence of strong randomness. Starting from an Anderson lattice model with disorder, we derive an effective local field theory in the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) approximation, where randomness is introduced into both hybridization and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interactions. Performing the saddle-point analysis in the U(1) slave-boson representation, we reveal its phase diagram which shows a quantum phase transition from a spi…
