This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the Comparative Opinion Mining from Vietnamese Product Reviews shared task (ComOM), held as part of the 10$^{th}$ International Workshop on Vietnamese Language and Speech Processing (VLSP 2023). The primary objective of this shared task is to advance the field of natural language processing by developing techniques that proficiently extract comparative opinions from Vietnamese product reviews. Participants are challenged to propose models that adeptly extract a comparative "quintuple" from a comparative sentence, encompassing Subject, Object, Aspect, Predicate, and Comparison Type Label. We construct a human-annotated dataset comprising $120$ documents, encompassing $7427$ non-comparative sentences and $2468$ comparisons within $1798$ sentences. Participating models undergo evaluation and ranking based on the Exact match macro-averaged quintuple F1 score.

In recent years, Vietnamese Named Entity Recognition (NER) systems have had a great breakthrough when using Deep Neural Network methods. This paper describes the primary errors of the state-of-the-art NER systems on Vietnamese language. After conducting experiments on BLSTM-CNN-CRF and BLSTM-CRF models with different word embeddings on the Vietnamese NER dataset. This dataset is provided by VLSP in 2016 and used to evaluate most of the current Vietnamese NER systems. We noticed that BLSTM-CNN-CRF gives better results, therefore, we analyze the errors on this model in detail. Our error-analysis…

In the text classification problem, the imbalance of labels in datasets affect the performance of the text-classification models. Practically, the data about user comments on social networking sites not altogether appeared - the administrators often only allow positive comments and hide negative comments. Thus, when collecting the data about user comments on the social network, the data is usually skewed about one label, which leads the dataset to become imbalanced and deteriorate the model's ability. The data augmentation techniques are applied to solve the imbalance problem between classes o…

This paper describes our study on using mutilingual BERT embeddings and some new neural models for improving sequence tagging tasks for the Vietnamese language. We propose new model architectures and evaluate them extensively on two named entity recognition datasets of VLSP 2016 and VLSP 2018, and on two part-of-speech tagging datasets of VLSP 2010 and VLSP 2013. Our proposed models outperform existing methods and achieve new state-of-the-art results. In particular, we have pushed the accuracy of part-of-speech tagging to 95.40% on the VLSP 2010 corpus, to 96.77% on the VLSP 2013 corpus; and t…
In this paper, we present an empirical study of using pre-trained BERT models for the relation extraction task at the VLSP 2020 Evaluation Campaign. We applied two state-of-the-art BERT-based models: R-BERT and BERT model with entity starts. For each model, we compared two pre-trained BERT models: FPTAI/vibert and NlpHUST/vibert4news. We found that NlpHUST/vibert4news model significantly outperforms FPTAI/vibert for the Vietnamese relation extraction task. Finally, we proposed an ensemble model that combines R-BERT and BERT with entity starts. Our proposed ensemble model slightly improved agai…

Image captioning is currently a challenging task that requires the ability to both understand visual information and use human language to describe this visual information in the image. In this paper, we propose an efficient way to improve the image understanding ability of transformer-based method by extending Object Relation Transformer architecture with Attention on Attention mechanism. Experiments on the VieCap4H dataset show that our proposed method significantly outperforms its original structure on both the public test and private test of the Image Captioning shared task held by VLSP.
This study presents our approach on the automatic Vietnamese image captioning for healthcare domain in text processing tasks of Vietnamese Language and Speech Processing (VLSP) Challenge 2021, as shown in Figure 1. In recent years, image captioning often employs a convolutional neural network-based architecture as an encoder and a long short-term memory (LSTM) as a decoder to generate sentences. These models perform remarkably well in different datasets. Our proposed model also has an encoder and a decoder, but we instead use a Swin Transformer in the encoder, and a LSTM combined with an atten…
This paper describes our method for tuning a transformer-based pretrained model, to adaptation with Reliable Intelligence Identification on Vietnamese SNSs problem. We also proposed a model that combines bert-base pretrained models with some metadata features, such as the number of comments, number of likes, images of SNS documents,... to improved results for VLSP shared task: Reliable Intelligence Identification on Vietnamese SNSs. With appropriate training techniques, our model is able to achieve 0.9392 ROC-AUC on public test set and the final version settles at top 2 ROC-AUC (0.9513) on pri…

The overwhelming abundance of data has created a misinformation crisis. Unverified sensationalism that is designed to grab the readers' short attention span, when crafted with malice, has caused irreparable damage to our society's structure. As a result, determining the reliability of an article has become a crucial task. After various ablation studies, we propose a multi-input model that can effectively leverage both tabular metadata and post content for the task. Applying state-of-the-art finetuning techniques for the pretrained component and training strategies for our complete model, we ha…

This paper reports on the ReINTEL Shared Task for Responsible Information Identification on social network sites, which is hosted at the seventh annual workshop on Vietnamese Language and Speech Processing (VLSP 2020). Given a piece of news with respective textual, visual content and metadata, participants are required to classify whether the news is `reliable' or `unreliable'. In order to generate a fair benchmark, we introduce a novel human-annotated dataset of over 10,000 news collected from a social network in Vietnam. All models will be evaluated in terms of AUC-ROC score, a typical evalu…
In this paper, we present our methods for unrealiable information identification task at VLSP 2020 ReINTEL Challenge. The task is to classify a piece of information into reliable or unreliable category. We propose a novel multimodal ensemble model which combines two multimodal models to solve the task. In each multimodal model, we combined feature representations acquired from three different data types: texts, images, and metadata. Multimodal features are derived from three neural networks and fused for classification. Experimental results showed that our proposed multimodal ensemble model im…

Society needs to develop a system to detect hate and offense to build a healthy and safe environment. However, current research in this field still faces four major shortcomings, including deficient pre-processing techniques, indifference to data imbalance issues, modest performance models, and lacking practical applications. This paper focused on developing an intelligent system capable of addressing these shortcomings. Firstly, we proposed an efficient pre-processing technique to clean comments collected from Vietnamese social media. Secondly, a novel hate speech detection (HSD) model, which…
