The gauge-Miura correspondence establishes a map between the entire KdV and mKdV hierarchies, including positive and also negative flows, from which new relations besides the standard Miura transformation arise. We use this correspondence to classify solutions of the KdV hierarchy in terms of elementary tau functions of the mKdV hierarchy under both zero and nonzero vacua. We illustrate how interesting nonlinear phenomena can be described analytically from this construction, such as ``rogue waves'' of a complex KdV system that corresponds to a limit of a vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation.
Using the fact that Miura transformation can be expressed in the form of gauge transformation connecting the KdV and mKdV equations, we discuss the derivation of the Bäcklund transformation and its Miura-gauge transformation connecting both hierarchies.
The construction of Miura and Bäcklund transformations for $A_n$ mKdV and KdV hierarchies are presented in terms of gauge transformations acting upon the zero curvature representation. As in the well known $sl(2)$ case, we derive and relate the equations of motion for the two hierarchies. Moreover, the Miura-gauge transformation is not unique, instead, it is shown to be connected to a set of generators labeled by the exponents of $A_n$ The construction of generalized gauge-Bäcklund transformation for the $A_n$-KdV hierarchy is obtained as a composition of Miura and Bäcklund-gauge transformatio…
We show that the KdV flow evolves any real singular initial profile q of the form q=r'+r^2, where r\inL_{loc}^2, r|_{R_+}=0 into a meromorphic function with no real poles.
We present reciprocal transformations for the spectral problems of Korteveg de Vries (KdV) and modified Korteveg de Vries (mKdV) equations. The resulting equations, RKdV (reciprocal KdV) and RmKdV (reciprocal mKdV), are connected through a transformation that combines both Miura and reciprocal transformations. Lax pairs for RKdV and RmKdV are straightforwardly obtained by means of the aforementioned reciprocal transformations. We have also identified the classical Lie symmetries for the Lax pairs of RKdV and RmKdV. Non-trivial similarity reductions are computed and they yield non-autonomous or…
We relate Miura type transformations (MTs) over an evolution system to its zero-curvature representations with values in Lie algebras g. We prove that certain homogeneous spaces of g produce MTs and show how to distinguish these spaces. For a scalar translation-invariant evolution equation this allows to classify all MTs in terms of homogeneous spaces of the Wahlquist-Estabrook algebra of the equation. For other evolution systems this allows to construct some MTs. As an example, we study MTs over the KdV equation, a 5th order equation of Harry-Dym type, and the coupled KdV-mKdV system of Kerst…
We present a multi-parameter family of rational solutions to the complex Korteweg-de Vries(KdV) equations. This family of solutions includes particular cases with high-amplitude peaks at the centre, as well as a multitude of cases in which high-order rogue waves are partially split into lower-order fundamental components. We present an empirically-found symmetry which introduces a parameter controlling the splitting of the rogue wave components into multi-peak solutions, and allows for nonsingular solutions at higher order in certain cases.
We address the most general periodic travelling wave of the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation written as a rational function of Jacobian elliptic functions. By applying an algebraic method which relates the periodic travelling waves and the squared periodic eigenfunctions of the Lax operators, we characterize explicitly the location of eigenvalues in the periodic spectral problem away from the imaginary axis. We show that Darboux transformations with the periodic eigenfunctions remain in the class of the same periodic travelling waves of the mKdV equation. In a general setting, there …
An elementary yet remarkable similarity between the Cole-Hopf transformation relating the Burgers and heat equation and Miura's transformation connecting the KdV and mKdV equations is studied in detail.
An extension of the super Korteweg-de Vries integrable system in terms of operator valued functions is obtained. In particular the extension contains the $N=1$ Super KdV and coupled systems with functions valued on a symplectic space. We introduce a Miura transformation for the extended system and obtain its hamiltonian structure. We also obtain an extended Gardner transformation which allows to find an infinite number of conserved quantities of the extended system.
The Miura transformation plays a crucial role in the study of integrable systems. There have been various extensions of the Miura transformation, which have been used to relate different kinds of integrable equations and to classify the bi-Hamiltonian structures. In this paper, we are mainly concerned with the geometric aspects of the Miura transformation. The generalized Miura transformations from the mKdV-type hierarchies to the KdV-type hierarchies are constructed under both algebraic and geometric settings. It is shown that the Miura transformations not only relate integrable curve flows i…
We provide a new natural interpretation of the Lax representation for an integrable system; that is, the spectral problem is the linearized form of a Miura transformation between the original system and a modified version of it. On the basis of this interpretation, we formulate a systematic method of identifying modified integrable systems that can be mapped to a given integrable system by Miura transformations. Thus, this method can be used to generate new integrable systems from known systems through inverse Miura maps; it can be applied to both continuous and discrete systems in 1+1 dimensi…
We present a novel integrable non-autonomous partial differential equation of the Schwarzian type, i.e. invariant under Möbius transformations, that is related to the Korteweg-de Vries hierarchy. In fact, this PDE can be considered as the generating equation for the entire hierarchy of Schwarzian KdV equations. We present its Lax pair, establish its connection with the SKdV hierarchy, its Miura relations to similar generating PDEs for the modified and regular KdV hierarchies and its Lagrangian structure. Finally we demonstrate that its similarity reductions lead to the {\it full} Painlevé VI e…
The dynamics of the highly nonlinear fifth order $KdV$-type equation is discussed in the framework of the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms. The symmetries of the Lagrangian produce three commuting conserved quantities that are found to be recursively related to one-another for a certain specific value of the power of nonlinearity. The above cited recursion relations are obeyed with a second Poisson bracket which sheds light on the integrability properties of the above nonlinear equation. It is shown that a Miura-type transformation can be made to obtain the fifth order $mKdV$-type equatio…
We study group theoretical structures of the mKdV equation. The Schwarzian type mKdV equation has the global Möbius group symmetry. The Miura transformation makes a connection between the mKdV equation and the KdV equation. We find the special local Möbius transformation on the mKdV one-soliton solution which can be regarded as the commutative KdV Bäcklund transformation can generate the mKdV cyclic symmetric $N$-soliton solution. In this algebraic construction to obtain multi-soliton solutions, we could observe the addition formula.
We put forth two physics-informed neural network (PINN) schemes based on Miura transformations and the novelty of this research is the incorporation of Miura transformation constraints into neural networks to solve nonlinear PDEs. The most noteworthy advantage of our method is that we can simply exploit the initial-boundary data of a solution of a certain nonlinear equation to obtain the data-driven solution of another evolution equation with the aid of PINNs and during the process, the Miura transformation plays an indispensable role of a bridge between solutions of two separate equations. It…
We consider equations in the modified KdV (mKdV) hierarchy and make use of the Miura transformation to construct expressions for their Lax pair. We derive a Lagrangian-based approach to study the bi-Hamiltonian structure of the mKdV equations. We also show that the complex modified KdV (cmKdV) equation follows from the action principle to have a Lagrangian representation. This representation not only provides a basis to write the cmKdV equation in the canonical form endowed with an appropriate Poisson structure but also help us construct a semianalytical solution of it. The solution obtained b…
Miura-type transformations (MTs) are an essential tool in the theory of integrable nonlinear partial differential and difference equations. We present a geometric method to construct MTs for differential-difference (lattice) equations from Darboux-Lax representations (DLRs) of such equations. The method is applicable to parameter-dependent DLRs satisfying certain conditions. We construct MTs and modified lattice equations from invariants of some Lie group actions on manifolds associated with such DLRs. Using this construction, from a given suitable DLR one can obtain many MTs of different orde…
Familiar nonlinear and in particular soliton equations arise as zero curvature conditions for GL(1,R) connections with noncommutative differential calculi. The Burgers equation is formulated in this way and the Cole-Hopf transformation for it attains the interpretation of a transformation of the connection to a pure gauge in this mathematical framework. The KdV, modified KdV equation and the Miura transformation are obtained jointly in a similar setting and a rather straightforward generalization leads to the KP and a modified KP equation. Furthermore, a differential calculus associated with t…
Employing the Hirota's method, a class of soliton solutions for the N=2 super mKdV equations is proposed in terms of a single Grassmann parameter. Such solutions are shown to satisfy two copies of N=1 supersymmetric mKdV equations connected by nontrivial algebraic identities. Using the super Miura transformation, we obtain solutions of the N=2 super KdV equations. These are shown to generalize solutions derived previously. By using the mKdV/sinh-Gordon hierarchy properties we generate the solutions of the N=2 super sinh-Gordon as well.
We show that the 2-matrix string model corresponds to a coupled system of $2+1$-dimensional KP and modified KP ($\KPm$) integrable equations subject to a specific ``symmetry'' constraint. The latter together with the Miura-Konopelchenko map for $\KPm$ are the continuum incarnation of the matrix string equation. The $\KPm$ Miura and Bäcklund transformations are natural consequences of the underlying lattice structure. The constrained $\KPm$ system is equivalent to a $1+1$-dimensional generalized KP-KdV hierarchy related to graded ${\bf SL(3,1)}$. We provide an explicit representation of this hi…
By applying Darboux-Crum transformations to a Lax pair formulation of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, we construct new sets of multi-soliton solutions to it as well as to the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation. The obtained solutions exhibit a chiral asymmetry in propagation of different types of defects in crystalline backgrounds. We show that the KdV solitons of pulse and compression modulation types, which support bound states in semi-infinite and finite forbidden bands in the spectrum of the perturbed quantum one-gap Lame system, propagate in opposite directions with respect …
We consider a family of homogeneous nonlinear dispersive equations with two arbitrary parameters. Conservation laws are established from the point symmetries and imply that the whole family admits square integrable solutions. Recursion operators are found to two members of the family investigated. For one of them, a Lax pair is also obtained, proving its complete integrability. From the Lax pair we construct a Miura-type transformation relating the original equation to the KdV equation. This transformation, on the other hand, enables us to obtain solutions of the equation from the kernel of a …
This thesis extends a previously found relation between the integrable KdV hierarchy and the boundary dynamics of pure gravity on AdS$_3$ described in the highest weight gauge, to a more general class of integrable systems associated to three-dimensional gravity on AdS$_3$ and higher spin gravity with gauge group $SL(N,\mathbb{R})\times SL(N,\mathbb{R})$ in the diagonal gauge. We present new sets of boundary conditions for the (higher spin) gravitational theories on AdS$_3$, where the dynamics of the boundary degrees of freedom is described by two independent left and right members of a hierar…
