Spectral machine learning methods based on spectral graph theory are powerful but scale poorly due to costly eigen-analysis. Although various eigenvector approximation methods have been proposed, the construction of a partial kernel matrix still remains within their frameworks. This work presents compact quantum circuit designs for spectral clustering in which the eigenproblem is approximated via a Rayleigh-Ritz formulation that bypasses kernel matrix construction and whose overall depth is dominated by the data-embedding routine. A rigorous shot complexity analysis is provided, showing that the sampling-based estimation remains tractable for the spectral clustering objective including a penalty term. Simulations on canonical datasets demonstrate reliable optimization behavior with an under-parameterized hardware-efficient ansatz. Finite-shot simulations further confirm the predicted sampling behavior of the penalty estimator, validating the main claims as a proof of concept.
In this paper we address the problem of translating one-way quantum computation (1WQC) into the circuit model. We start by giving a straightforward circuit representation of any 1WQC, at the cost of introducing many ancilla wires. We then propose a set of four simple circuit identities that explore the relationship between the entanglement resource and correction structure of a 1WQC, allowing one to obtain equivalent circuits acting on fewer qubits. We conclude with some examples and a discussion of open problems.
Quantum circuits are time dependent diagrams describing the process of quantum computation. Usually, a quantum algorithm must be mapped into a quantum circuit. Optimal synthesis of quantum circuits is intractable and heuristic methods must be employed. With the use of heuristics, the optimality of circuits is no longer guaranteed. In this paper, we consider a local optimization technique based on templates to simplify and reduce the depth of non-optimal quantum circuits. We present and analyze templates in the general case, and provide particular details for the circuits composed of NOT, CNOT …
It is challenging to transform an arbitrary quantum circuit into a form protected by surface code quantum error correcting codes (a variant of topological quantum error correction), especially if the goal is to minimise overhead. One of the issues is the efficient placement of magic state distillation sub circuits, so-called distillation boxes, in the space-time volume that abstracts the computation's required resources. This work presents a general, systematic, online method for the synthesis of such circuits. Distillation box placement is controlled by so-called schedulers. The work introduc…
In this brief paper, we go through the theoretical steps of the spectral clustering on quantum computers by employing the phase estimation and the amplitude amplification algorithms. We discuss circuit designs for each step and show how to obtain the clustering solution from the output state. In addition, we introduce a biased version of the phase estimation algorithm which significantly speeds up the amplitude amplification process. The complexity of the whole process is analyzed: it is shown that when the circuit representation of a data matrix of order $N$ is produced through an ancilla bas…
In this work, we propose three-dimensional photonic circuit designs that guarantee a considerable reduction in the complexity of circuits for the purpose of performing quantum state tomography of N-dimensional path qudits. The POVM (Positive Operator-Valued Measure) chosen in this work ensures that, for odd dimensions, such process is minimal. Our proposal consists of organizing the waveguides that form the circuit as a square array formed by N vertical sectors composed of N waveguides each, arranged in the vertical direction. Based on the symmetry of the chosen POVM, the interferometer acting…
The fragile nature of quantum information limits our ability to construct large quantities of quantum bits suitable for quantum computing. An important goal, therefore, is to minimize the amount of resources required to implement quantum algorithms, many of which are serial in nature and leave large numbers of qubits idle much of the time unless compression techniques are used. Furthermore, quantum error-correcting codes, which are required to reduce the effects of noise, introduce additional resource overhead. We consider a strategy for quantum circuit optimization based on topological deform…
We present a compact and efficient design in terms of gain, bandwidth and dynamical range for the Josephson mixer, the superconducting circuit performing three-wave mixing at microwave frequencies. In an all lumped-element based circuit with galvanically coupled ports, we demonstrate non degenerate amplification for microwave signals over a bandwidth up to 50 MHz for a power gain of 20 dB. The quantum efficiency of the mixer is shown to be about 70$\%$ and its saturation power reaches $-112$ dBm.
Constructing compact quantum circuits for universal quantum gates on solid-state systems is crucial for quantum computing. We present some compact quantum circuits for a deterministic solid-state quantum computing, including the CNOT, Toffoli, and Fredkin gates on the diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers confined inside cavities, achieved by some input-output processes of a single photon. Our quantum circuits for these universal quantum gates are simple and economic. Moreover, additional electron qubits are not employed, but only a single-photon medium. These gates have a long coherent time. We di…
Of late, we are witnessing spectacular developments in Quantum Information Processing with the availability of Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum devices of different architectures and various software development kits to work on quantum algorithms. Different problems, which are hard to solve by classical computation, but can be sped up (significantly in some cases) are also being populated. Leveraging these aspects, this paper examines unsupervised graph clustering by quantum algorithms or, more precisely, quantum-assisted algorithms. By carefully examining the two cluster Max-Cut problem withi…
Photonic chip based time-bin entanglement has attracted significant attention because of its potential for quantum communication and computation. Useful time-bin entanglement systems must be able to generate, manipulate and analyze entangled photons on a photonic chip for stable, scalable and reconfigurable operation. Here we report the first time-bin entanglement photonic chip that integrates time-bin generation, wavelength demultiplexing and entanglement analysis. A two-photon interference fringe with an 88.4% visibility is measured (without subtracting any noise), indicating the high perfor…
Clustering is one of the most crucial problems in unsupervised learning, and the well-known $k$-means clustering algorithm has been shown to be implementable on a quantum computer with a significant speedup. However, many clustering problems cannot be solved by $k$-means, and a powerful method called spectral clustering is introduced to solve these problems. In this work, we propose a circuit design to implement spectral clustering on a quantum processor with a substantial speedup, by initializing the processor into a maximally entangled state and encoding the data information into an efficien…
The engineering of quantum devices has reached the stage where we now have small scale quantum processors containing multiple interacting qubits within them. Simple quantum circuits have been demonstrated and scaling up to larger numbers is underway. However as the number of qubits in these processors increases, it becomes challenging to implement switchable or tunable coherent coupling among them. The typical approach has been to detune each qubit from others or the quantum bus it connected to, but as the number of qubits increases this becomes problematic to achieve in practice due to freque…
Real-time clustering of big performance data generated by the telecommunication networks requires domain-specific high performance compute infrastructure to detect anomalies. In this paper, we evaluate noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers characterized by low decoherence times, for K-means clustering and propose three strategies to generate shorter-depth quantum circuits needed to overcome the limitation of NISQ computers. The strategies are based on exploiting; i) quantum interference, ii) negative rotations and iii) destructive interference. By comparing our implementations on I…
Paul traps are widely used to confine electrically charged particles like atomic and molecular ions by using an intense radiofrequency (RF) field, typically obtained by a voltage drop on capacitative electrodes placed in vacuum. We present a RF drive realized on a compact printed circuit board (PCB) and providing a high-voltage RF signal to a quadrupole Paul trap. The circuit is formed by four interdependent resonant circuits $-$ each of which connected to an electrode of a Paul trap $-$ fed by low-noise amplifiers, leading to an output voltage of peak-to-peak amplitude up to 200 V at 3.23 MHz…

For quantum computer circuits, it is proposed that they have, besides the presently used compact graphs, an expanded system of subgraphs, in line with the quantum mechanics superposition axiom. The representation of each process by these suggested graphs is equivalent to the algebraic notation of the process.
We demonstrate the design of an integrated conditional quantum teleportation circuit and a readout circuit using a two-dimensional photonic crystal single chip. Fabrication and testing of the proposed quantum circuit can be accomplished with current or near future semiconductor process technology and experimental techniques. The readout part of our device, which has potential for independent use as an atomic interferometer, can also be used on its own or integrated with other compatible optical circuits to achieve atomic state detection. Further improvement of the device in terms of compactnes…
This article defines encrypted gate, which is denoted by $EG[U]:|α\rangle\rightarrow\left((a,b),Enc_{a,b}(U|α\rangle)\right)$. We present a gate-teleportation-based two-party computation scheme for $EG[U]$, where one party gives arbitrary quantum state $|α\rangle$ as input and obtains the encrypted $U$-computing result $Enc_{a,b}(U|α\rangle)$, and the other party obtains the random bits $a,b$. Based on $EG[P^x](x\in\{0,1\})$, we propose a method to remove the $P$-error generated in the homomorphic evaluation of $T/T^\dagger$-gate. Using this method, we design two non-interactive and perfectly …
The extreme miniaturization of a cold-atom interferometer accelerometer requires the development of novel technologies and architectures for the interferometer subsystems. Here we describe several component technologies and a laser system architecture to enable a path to such miniaturization. We developed a custom, compact titanium vacuum package containing a microfabricated grating chip for a tetrahedral grating magneto-optical trap (GMOT) using a single cooling beam. In addition, we designed a multi-channel photonic-integrated-circuit-compatible laser system implemented with a single seed la…
We study the case where quantum computing could improve jet clustering by considering two new quantum algorithms that might speed up classical jet clustering algorithms. The first one is a quantum subroutine to compute a Minkowski-based distance between two data points, while the second one consists of a quantum circuit to track the rough maximum into a list of unsorted data. When one or both algorithms are implemented in classical versions of well-known clustering algorithms (K-means, Affinity Propagation and $k_T$-jet) we obtain efficiencies comparable to those of their classical counterpart…

In the strive for scalable quantum processors, significant effort is being devoted to the development of cryogenic classical hardware for the control and readout of a growing number of qubits. Here we report on a cryogenic circuit incorporating a CMOS-based active inductor enabling fast impedance measurements with a sensitivity of 10 aF and an input-referred noise of 3.7 aF/sqrt(Hz). This type of circuit is especially conceived for the readout of semiconductor spin qubits. As opposed to commonly used schemes based on dispersive rf reflectometry, which require mm-scale passive inductors, it all…
Quantum machine learning (QML) is the use of quantum computing for the computation of machine learning algorithms. With the prevalence and importance of classical data, a hybrid quantum-classical approach to QML is called for. Parameterized Quantum Circuits (PQCs), and particularly Quantum Kernel PQCs, are generally used in the hybrid approach to QML. In this paper we discuss some important aspects of PQCs with quantum kernels including PQCs, quantum kernels, quantum kernels with quantum advantage, and the trainability of quantum kernels. We conclude that quantum kernels with hybrid kernel met…
We present a new scheme for quantum homomorphic encryption which is compact and allows for efficient evaluation of arbitrary polynomial-sized quantum circuits. Building on the framework of Broadbent and Jeffery and recent results in the area of instantaneous non-local quantum computation, we show how to construct quantum gadgets that allow perfect correction of the errors which occur during the homomorphic evaluation of T gates on encrypted quantum data. Our scheme can be based on any classical (leveled) fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) scheme and requires no computational assumptions beside…
Current quantum computer designs will not scale. To scale beyond small prototypes, quantum architectures will likely adopt a modular approach with clusters of tightly connected quantum bits and sparser connections between clusters. We exploit this clustering and the statically-known control flow of quantum programs to create tractable partitioning heuristics which map quantum circuits to modular physical machines one time slice at a time. Specifically, we create optimized mappings for each time slice, accounting for the cost to move data from the previous time slice and using a tunable lookahe…
Clustering is one of the most frequent problems in many domains, in particular, in particle physics where jet reconstruction is central in experimental analyses. Jet clustering at the CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is computationally expensive and the difficulty of this task will increase with the upcoming High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). In this paper, we study the case in which quantum computing algorithms might improve jet clustering by considering two novel quantum algorithms which may speed up the classical jet clustering algorithms. The first one is a quantum subroutine to compute a Min…
Implementation of variational Quantum Machine Learning (QML) algorithms on Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) devices is known to have issues related to the high number of qubits needed and the noise associated with multi-qubit gates. In this paper, we propose a variational QML algorithm using a dressed quantum network to address these issues. Using the "super compressed encoding" scheme that we follow here, the classical encoding layer in our dressed network drastically scales down the input-dimension, before feeding the input to the variational quantum circuit. Hence, the number of qubi…
We investigate the circuit quantum electrodynamics of anharmonic superconducting nanowire oscillators. The sample circuit consists of a capacitively shunted nanowire with a width of about 20 nm and a varying length up to 350 nm, capacitively coupled to an on-chip resonator. By applying microwave pulses we observe Rabi oscillations, measure coherence times and the anharmonicity of the circuit. Despite the very compact design, simple top-down fabrication and high degree of disorder in the oxidized (granular) aluminum material used, we observe lifetimes in the microsecond range.
We report a compact, scalable, quantum photonic integrated circuit realised by combining multiple, independent InGaAs/GaAs quantum-light-emitting-diodes (QLEDs) with a silicon oxynitride waveguide circuit. Each waveguide joining the circuit can then be excited by a separate, independently electrically contacted QLED. We show that the emission from neighbouring QLEDs can be independently tuned to degeneracy using the Stark Effect and that the resulting photon streams are indistinguishable. This enables on-chip Hong-Ou-Mandel-type interference, as required for many photonic quantum information p…
