Pose based video sychronization can have applications in multiple domains such as gameplay performance evaluation, choreography or guiding athletes. The subject's actions could be compared and evaluated against those performed by professionals side by side. In this paper, we propose an end to end pipeline for synchronizing videos based on pose. The first step crops the region where the person present in the image followed by pose detection on the cropped image. This is followed by application of Dynamic Time Warping(DTW) on angle/ distance measures between the pose keypoints leading to a scale and shift invariant pose matching pipeline.
There is a natural correlation between the visual and auditive elements of a video. In this work we leverage this connection to learn general and effective models for both audio and video analysis from self-supervised temporal synchronization. We demonstrate that a calibrated curriculum learning scheme, a careful choice of negative examples, and the use of a contrastive loss are critical ingredients to obtain powerful multi-sensory representations from models optimized to discern temporal synchronization of audio-video pairs. Without further finetuning, the resulting audio features achieve per…

Aligning video sequences is a fundamental yet still unsolved component for a broad range of applications in computer graphics and vision. Most classical image processing methods cannot be directly applied to related video problems due to the high amount of underlying data and their limit to small changes in appearance. We present a scalable and robust method for computing a non-linear temporal video alignment. The approach autonomously manages its training data for learning a meaningful representation in an iterative procedure each time increasing its own knowledge. It leverages on the nature …
Stereo vision is essential for many applications. Currently, the synchronization of the streams coming from two cameras is done using mostly hardware. A software-based synchronization method would reduce the cost, weight and size of the entire system and allow for more flexibility when building such systems. With this goal in mind, we present here a comparison of different deep learning-based systems and prove that some are efficient and generalizable enough for such a task. This study paves the way to a production ready software-based video synchronization system.

We present VideoReTalking, a new system to edit the faces of a real-world talking head video according to input audio, producing a high-quality and lip-syncing output video even with a different emotion. Our system disentangles this objective into three sequential tasks: (1) face video generation with a canonical expression; (2) audio-driven lip-sync; and (3) face enhancement for improving photo-realism. Given a talking-head video, we first modify the expression of each frame according to the same expression template using the expression editing network, resulting in a video with the canonical…

This paper addresses the problem of building an affordable easy-to-setup synchronized multi-view camera system, which is in demand for many Computer Vision and Robotics applications in high-dynamic environments. In our work, we propose a solution for this problem -- a publicly-available Android application for synchronized video recording on multiple smartphones with sub-millisecond accuracy. We present a generalized mathematical model of timestamping for Android smartphones and prove its applicability on 47 different physical devices. Also, we estimate the time drift parameter for those smart…
Current state-of-the-art methods cast monocular 3D human pose estimation as a learning problem by training neural networks on large data sets of images and corresponding skeleton poses. In contrast, we propose an approach that can exploit small annotated data sets by fine-tuning networks pre-trained via self-supervised learning on (large) unlabeled data sets. To drive such networks towards supporting 3D pose estimation during the pre-training step, we introduce a novel self-supervised feature learning task designed to focus on the 3D structure in an image. We exploit images extracted from vide…

During the training for snowboard big air, one of the most popular winter sports, athletes and coaches extensively shoot and check their jump attempts using a single camera or smartphone. However, by watching videos sequentially, it is difficult to compare the precise difference in performance between two trials. Therefore, side-by-side display or overlay of two videos may be helpful for training. To accomplish this, the spatial and temporal alignment of multiple performances must be ensured. In this study, we propose a conventional but plausible solution using the existing image processing te…

A simple method for synchronization of video streams with a precision better than one millisecond is proposed. The method is applicable to any number of rolling shutter cameras and when a few photographic flashes or other abrupt lighting changes are present in the video. The approach exploits the rolling shutter sensor property that every sensor row starts its exposure with a small delay after the onset of the previous row. The cameras may have different frame rates and resolutions, and need not have overlapping fields of view. The method was validated on five minutes of four streams from an i…

We present a new method and a large-scale database to detect audio-video synchronization(A/V sync) errors in tennis videos. A deep network is trained to detect the visual signature of the tennis ball being hit by the racquet in the video stream. Another deep network is trained to detect the auditory signature of the same event in the audio stream. During evaluation, the audio stream is searched by the audio network for the audio event of the ball being hit. If the event is found in audio, the neighboring interval in video is searched for the corresponding visual signature. If the event is not …

Transformation Synchronization is the problem of recovering absolute transformations from a given set of pairwise relative motions. Despite its usefulness, the problem remains challenging due to the influences from noisy and outlier relative motions, and the difficulty to model analytically and suppress them with high fidelity. In this work, we avoid handcrafting robust loss functions, and propose to use graph neural networks (GNNs) to learn transformation synchronization. Unlike previous works which use complicated multi-stage pipelines, we use an iterative approach where each step consists o…

Lack of audio-video synchronization is a common problem during television broadcasts and video conferencing, leading to an unsatisfactory viewing experience. A widely accepted paradigm is to create an error detection mechanism that identifies the cases when audio is leading or lagging. We propose ModEFormer, which independently extracts audio and video embeddings using modality-specific transformers. Different from the other transformer-based approaches, ModEFormer preserves the modality of the input streams which allows us to use a larger batch size with more negative audio samples for contra…
We study the problem of syncing the lip movement in a video with the audio stream. Our solution finds an optimal alignment using a dual-domain recurrent neural network that is trained on synthetic data we generate by dropping and duplicating video frames. Once the alignment is found, we modify the video in order to sync the two sources. Our method is shown to greatly outperform the literature methods on a variety of existing and new benchmarks. As an application, we demonstrate our ability to robustly align text-to-speech generated audio with an existing video stream. Our code and samples are …

With the development of media and networking technologies, multimedia applications ranging from feature presentation in a cinema setting to video on demand to interactive video conferencing are in great demand. Good synchronization between audio and video modalities is a key factor towards defining the quality of a multimedia presentation. The audio and visual signals of a multimedia presentation are commonly managed by independent workflows - they are often separately authored, processed, stored and even delivered to the playback system. This opens up the possibility of temporal misalignment …
Human pose is a useful feature for fine-grained sports action understanding. However, pose estimators are often unreliable when run on sports video due to domain shift and factors such as motion blur and occlusions. This leads to poor accuracy when downstream tasks, such as action recognition, depend on pose. End-to-end learning circumvents pose, but requires more labels to generalize. We introduce Video Pose Distillation (VPD), a weakly-supervised technique to learn features for new video domains, such as individual sports that challenge pose estimation. Under VPD, a student network learns to…
The effectiveness of the approaches to predict 3D poses from 2D poses estimated in each frame of a video has been demonstrated for 3D human pose estimation. However, 2D poses without appearance information of persons have much ambiguity with respect to the joint depths. In this paper, we propose to estimate a 3D pose in each frame of a video and refine it considering temporal information. The proposed approach reduces the ambiguity of the joint depths and improves the 3D pose estimation accuracy.

Current approaches in video forecasting attempt to generate videos directly in pixel space using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) or Variational Autoencoders (VAEs). However, since these approaches try to model all the structure and scene dynamics at once, in unconstrained settings they often generate uninterpretable results. Our insight is to model the forecasting problem at a higher level of abstraction. Specifically, we exploit human pose detectors as a free source of supervision and break the video forecasting problem into two discrete steps. First we explicitly model the high level …
Video annotation is expensive and time consuming. Consequently, datasets for multi-person pose estimation and tracking are less diverse and have more sparse annotations compared to large scale image datasets for human pose estimation. This makes it challenging to learn deep learning based models for associating keypoints across frames that are robust to nuisance factors such as motion blur and occlusions for the task of multi-person pose tracking. To address this issue, we propose an approach that relies on keypoint correspondences for associating persons in videos. Instead of training the net…

Human pose analysis is presently dominated by deep convolutional networks trained with extensive manual annotations of joint locations and beyond. To avoid the need for expensive labeling, we exploit spatiotemporal relations in training videos for self-supervised learning of pose embeddings. The key idea is to combine temporal ordering and spatial placement estimation as auxiliary tasks for learning pose similarities in a Siamese convolutional network. Since the self-supervised sampling of both tasks from natural videos can result in ambiguous and incorrect training labels, our method employs …
Due to the emergence of Generative Adversarial Networks, video synthesis has witnessed exceptional breakthroughs. However, existing methods lack a proper representation to explicitly control the dynamics in videos. Human pose, on the other hand, can represent motion patterns intrinsically and interpretably, and impose the geometric constraints regardless of appearance. In this paper, we propose a pose guided method to synthesize human videos in a disentangled way: plausible motion prediction and coherent appearance generation. In the first stage, a Pose Sequence Generative Adversarial Network …

Modern approaches for multi-person pose estimation in video require large amounts of dense annotations. However, labeling every frame in a video is costly and labor intensive. To reduce the need for dense annotations, we propose a PoseWarper network that leverages training videos with sparse annotations (every k frames) to learn to perform dense temporal pose propagation and estimation. Given a pair of video frames---a labeled Frame A and an unlabeled Frame B---we train our model to predict human pose in Frame A using the features from Frame B by means of deformable convolutions to implicitly …
Video based fall detection accuracy has been largely improved due to the recent progress on deep convolutional neural networks. However, there still exists some challenges, such as lighting variation, complex background, which degrade the accuracy and generalization ability of these approaches. Meanwhile, large computation cost limits the application of existing fall detection approaches. To alleviate these problems, a video based fall detection approach using human poses is proposed in this paper. First, a lightweight pose estimator extracts 2D poses from video sequences and then 2D poses are…

We present a method to infer the 3D pose of mice, including the limbs and feet, from monocular videos. Many human clinical conditions and their corresponding animal models result in abnormal motion, and accurately measuring 3D motion at scale offers insights into health. The 3D poses improve classification of health-related attributes over 2D representations. The inferred poses are accurate enough to estimate stride length even when the feet are mostly occluded. This method could be applied as part of a continuous monitoring system to non-invasively measure animal health.
