By extending the new supersymmetric localization principle introduced in \cite{Choi:2021yuz}, we present a path integral derivation of the Selberg trace formula on arbitrary compact Riemann surfaces, including the case of vector-valued automorphic forms of arbitrary half-integer weight corresponding to Maass Laplacian. We also generalize the method to formulate the Selberg trace formula on generic compact locally symmetric space.
We show how SU(2) $N_f=4$ Seiberg-Witten prepotentials are derived form $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{2,k}$ ($k\to2$) four-point conformal blocks via considering Langlands duality.
We apply Selberg's trace formula to solve problems in hyperbolic band theory, a recently developed extension of Bloch theory to model band structures on experimentally realized hyperbolic lattices. For this purpose we incorporate the higher-dimensional crystal momentum into the trace formula and evaluate the summation for periodic orbits on the Bolza surface of genus two. We apply the technique to compute partition functions on the Bolza surface and propose an approximate relation between the lowest bands on the Bolza surface and on the $\{8,3\}$ hyperbolic lattice. We discuss the role of auto…
We show that the partition function of quantum Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity, including topological fluctuations, is equivalent to the partition function of a Maass-Laplace operator of large -- imaginary -- weight acting on non-compact, infinite area, hyperbolic Riemann surfaces of arbitrary genus. The resulting spectrum of this open quantum system is semiclasically exact and given by a regularized Selberg trace formula, namely, it is expressed as a sum over the lengths of primitive periodic orbits of these hyperbolic surfaces. By using semiclassical techniques, we compute analytically the sp…
The Selberg trace formula is specified for cosmological billiards in $4=3+1$ spacetime dimensions. The spectral formula is rewritten as an exact sum over the initial conditions for the Einstein field equations for which periodic orbits are implied. For this, a suitable density of measure invariant under the billiard maps has been defined, within the statistics implied by the BKL paradigm. The trace formula has also been specified for the stochastic limit of the dynamics, where the sum over initial conditions has been demonstrated to be equivalent to a sum over suitable symmetry operations on t…
We study the consequences of unbroken rigid supersymmetry of four-dimensional field theories placed on curved manifolds. We show that in Lorentzian signature the background vector field coupling to the R-current is determined by the Weyl tensor of the background metric. In Euclidean signature, the same holds if two supercharges of opposite R-charge are preserved, otherwise the (anti-)self-dual part of the vector field-strength is fixed by the Weyl tensor. As a result of this relation, the trace and R-current anomalies of superconformal field theories simplify, with the trace anomaly becoming p…
Given a matrix Lie algebra one can construct the 3-Lie algebra by means of the trace of a matrix. In the present paper we show that this approach can be extended to the infinite-dimensional Lie algebra of vector fields on a manifold if instead of the trace of a matrix we consider a differential 1-form which satisfies certain conditions. Then we show that the same approach can be extended to matrix Lie superalgebras if instead of the trace of a matrix we make use of the super trace of a matrix. It is proved that a graded triple commutator of matrices constructed with the help of the graded comm…
Three dimensional bosonization is a conjectured duality between non-supersymmetric Chern-Simons theories coupled to matter fields in the fundamental representation of the gauge group. There is a well-established supersymmetric version of this duality, which involves Chern-Simons theories with ${\cal N} = 2$ supersymmetry coupled to fundamental chiral multiplets. Assuming that the supersymmetric duality is valid, we prove that non-supersymmetric bosonization holds for all planar correlators of single-trace operators. The main tool we employ is a double-trace flow from the supersymmetric theory …

We find an exact solution to strongly-coupled matrix models with a single-trace monomial potential. Our solution yields closed form expressions for the partition function as well as averages of Schur functions. The results are fully factorized into a product of terms linear in the rank of the matrix and the parameters of the model. We extend our formulas to include both logarthmic and finite-difference deformations, thereby generalizing the celebrated Selberg and Kadell integrals. We conjecture a formula for correlators of two Schur functions in these models, and explain how our results follow…
The constraints imposed by maximal supersymmetry on multi-loop contributions to the scattering of four open superstrings in the U(N) theory are examined by use of the pure spinor formalism. The double-trace term k^2 t_8(tr F^2)^2 (where k represents an external momentum and F the Yang--Mills field strength) only receives contributions from L<=2 (where L is the loop number) while the single-trace term k^2 t_8(tr F^4) receives contributions from all L. We verified these statements up to L=5, but arguments based on supersymmetry suggest they extend to all L. This explains why the single-trace con…
The $γ_i$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory is a non-supersymmetric deformation of the maximally-supersymmetric gauge theory in four dimensions which is conformally-invariant at the planar level. At the non-planar level non-trivial renormalization of marginal double-trace operators appears to break conformal invariance. At non-planar level, however, the behavior of this theory is less well understood. We study the one loop renormalization of the theory and the resulting flow of Yukawa and scalar coupling at the order ${\cal O}(\fracλ{N^2})$, and find $γ_i$ parameters receive non…
