This manuscript is based on an investigation of bouncing cosmology in a 4D Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity. Various bouncing models such as symmetric bounce, matter bounce, super bounce, and oscillatory bounce have been examined. Expressions for energy density, pressure, equation of state parameter have been derived in the most general manner and then reduced to 4D Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity for isotropic, homogenous, FLRW cosmos. Physical interpretation of Hubble and deceleration parameters has also been discussed and plotted for each model from non-vanishing scale factors. Non-singular bouncing models indulge in accelerating late-time cosmic acceleration phenomenon. It has been analysed that the Gauss-Bonnet coupling parameter has a lesser contribution to the dynamics of modified gravity while the bouncing parameter has noticeable effects. We have examined various energy conditions and witnessed the violation of strong and null energy conditions in bouncing models. Analytical expressions for jerk and snap parameters have also been calculated in terms of cosmic time and redshift. We have explored bouncing models through specific cosmographic tests to check their validity. Also, through stability analysis, matter bounce becomes the most stable model by increasing the value of the bouncing parameter. To find best-fit values, bouncing models have been constrained with Hubble data set and $Λ$CDM. We have calculated the values of parameters by applying the least-square fitting method. To make this analysis quantified, we have employed reduced chi-squared method on $H(z)$ data sets for each model.
In this paper, we have studied the bouncing behavior of the cosmological models formulated at the background of the Hubble function in the F(R, G) theory of gravity, where R and G denote the Ricci scalar and Gauss-Bonnet invariant. The actions of bouncing cosmology are studied under consideration of different viable models and can resolve the difficulty of singularity in standard Big-Bang cosmology. Both models show bouncing behavior and satisfy the bouncing cosmological properties. Models based on dynamical, deceleration, and energy conditions indicate the accelerating behavior at the late ev…
In this paper, a bouncing cosmological scenario is studied in the background of a flat FLRW model with a specific parametrized hyperbolic form of scale factor $ a $ in terms of $ t $, where $ λ$ is taken as the model parameter. This model is discussed in $ f(R,G) $ formalism having structured as $ f(R,G)=R+F(G) $, where $ R $ is Ricci scalar and $ G $ is the Gauss-Bonnet invariant. The proposed functional form of the Hubble parameter is considered in such a way that it satisfies the bouncing criteria of the model, which is free from the initial singularity. The physical consequences of the mod…
It is generically believed that higher-order curvature corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action might cure the curvature singularities that plague general relativity. Here we consider Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, the only four-dimensional, ghost-free theory with quadratic curvature terms. For any choice of the coupling function and of the scalar potential, we show that the theory does not allow for bouncing solutions in the flat and open Friedmann universe. For the case of a closed universe, using a reverse-engineering method, we explicitly provide a bouncing solution which is never…
Cyclic universes with bouncing solutions are candidates for solving the big bang initial singularity problem. Here we seek bouncing solutions in a modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity theory, of the type $R+f(G)$, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar, $G$ is the Gauss-Bonnet term, and $f$ some function of it. In finding such a bouncing solution we resort to a technique that reduces the order of the differential equations of the $R+f(G)$ theory to second order equations. As general relativity is a theory whose equations are of second order, this order reduction technique enables one to find solutions which a…
We show the existence of some bouncing cosmological solutions in the braneworld scenario. More specifically, we consider a dynamical three-brane in the background of Born-Infeld and electrically charged Gauss-Bonnet black hole. We find that, in certain range of parameter space, the brane universe, at least classically, never shrinks to a zero size, resulting in a singularity-free cosmology within the classical domain.
We explore some cosmological features of the newly suggested 4D Gauss-Bonnet gravity through two different models assuming a varying cosmological constant. Observational constraints, such as the cosmic transit and the flat curvature, have been considered in constructing the models. The cosmology in the current work has been probed using a given scale factor derived from the desired cosmic behavior which is the inverse of the usual viewpoint. The stability and cosmography have been studied for the two models.
We study how a cosmological bounce with a Type IV singularity at the bouncing point, can be generated by a classical vacuum $F(G)$ gravity. We focus our investigation on the behavior of the vacuum $F(G)$ theory near the Type IV singular bouncing point and also we address the stability of the resulting solution, by treating the equations of motion as a dynamical system. In addition, we investigate how the scalar perturbations of the background metric evolve, emphasizing to cosmological times near the Type IV singular bouncing point. Finally, we also investigate which mimetic vacuum $F(G)$ gravi…
We explore bounce cosmology in $F(\mathcal{G})$ gravity with the Gauss-Bonnet invariant $\mathcal{G}$. We reconstruct $F(\mathcal{G})$ gravity theory to realize the bouncing behavior in the early universe and examine the stability conditions for its cosmological solutions. It is demonstrated that the bouncing behavior with an exponential as well as a power-law scale factor naturally occurs in modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We also derive the $F(\mathcal{G})$ gravity model to produce the ekpyrotic scenario. Furthermore, we construct the bounce with the scale factor composed of a sum of two expo…
The following issue is addressed: how the addition of a Gauss-Bonnet term (generically coming from most fundamental theories, as string and M theories), to a viable model, can change the specific properties, and even the physical nature, of the corresponding cosmological solutions? Specifically, brand new original dark energy models are obtained in this way with quite interesting properties, which exhibit, in a unified fashion, the three distinguished possible cosmological phases corresponding to phantom matter, quintessence, and ordinary matter, respectively. A model, in which the equation of…
We propose a new scenario for the bouncing universe in a simple five-dimensional braneworld model in the framework of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, which works even with ordinary matter on the brane. In this scenario, the so-called branch singularity located at a finite physical radius in the bulk spacetime plays an essential role. We show that a three-brane moving in the bulk may reach and pass through it in spite of the fact that it is a curvature singularity. The bulk spacetime is extended beyond the branch singularity in the C^0 sense and then the branch singularity is identified as a mas…
We develop a Gauss-Bonnet extension of Loop Quantum Cosmology, by introducing holonomy corrections in modified $F(\mathcal{G})$ theories of gravity. Within the context of our formalism, we provide a perturbative expansion in the critical density, a parameter characteristic of Loop Quantum Gravity theories, and we result in having leading order corrections to the classical $F(\mathcal{G})$ theories of gravity. After extensively discussing the formalism, we present a reconstruction method that makes possible to find the Loop Quantum Cosmology corrected $F(\mathcal{G})$ theory that can realize va…
We consider the most general quadratic in curvature stringy motivated non-local action for the modified Einstein's gravity. We present exact analytic cosmological solutions including the bouncing ones and develop the relevant techniques for the further study of this type of models. We also elaborate on the perturbation formalism and argue that the found bouncing solution is stable during the bounce phase.
We construct a holographic dark energy model with a non-minimally coupled scalar field on the brane where Gauss-Bonnet and Induced Gravity effects are taken into account. This model provides a wide parameter space with several interesting cosmological implications. Especially, the equation of state parameter of the model crosses the phantom divide line and it is possible to realize bouncing solutions in this setup.
We investigate gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric thin shell in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. Under the recently proposed 4D limit, we find that the collapsing shell will be bounced back at a small radius, without forming a singularity. This bouncing behavior is similar to those of a test particle and a homogeneous spherical dust star, in accordance with the expectation that the Gauss-Bonnet term will modify the small scale behavior of the Einstein gravity. We analyze the causal structure of the dynamic spacetime that represents the bouncing process, finding that the …
In the context of extended Teleparallel gravity theories with a 3+1 dimensions Gauss-Bonnet analog term, we address the possibility of these theories reproducing several well-known cosmological bouncing scenarios in a four-dimensional Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker geometry. We shall study which types of gravitational Lagrangians are capable of reconstructing bouncing solutions provided by analytical expressions for symmetric, oscillatory, superbounce, the matter bounce and singular bounce. Some of the Lagrangians discovered are both analytical at the origin having Minkowski and Schwarzsc…
This work is concerned to study the bouncing nature of the universe for an isotropic configuration of fluid $\mathcal{T}_{αβ}$ and Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric scheme. This work is carried out under the novel $f(\mathcal{G},\mathcal{T}_{αβ} \mathcal{T}^{αβ})$ gravitation by assuming a specific model i.e, $f(\mathcal{G},\mathcal{T}^2)=\mathcal{G}+α\mathcal{G}^2+2λ\mathcal{T}^2$ with $α$ and $λ$ are constants, serving as free parameters. {The terms $\mathcal{G}$ and $\mathcal{T}^2$ served as an Gauss-Bonnet invariant and square of the energy-momentum trace term as an inclusion in t…
Theoretical arguments and cosmological observations suggest that Einstein's theory of general relativity needs to be modified at high energies. One of the best motivated higher-curvature extensions of general relativity is Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, in which a scalar field is coupled to quadratic curvature invariants. This theory is inspired by an effective string-theory model and its predictions dramatically differ from Einstein's theory in high-curvature regions - such as the interior of black holes and the early universe - where it aims at resolving curvature singularities. In th…
In this paper we propose and extensively study mimetic $f({\cal G})$ modified gravity models, with various scenarios of cosmological evolution, with or without extra matter fluids. The easiest formulation is based on the use of Lagrange multiplier constraint. In certain versions of this theory, it is possible to realize accelerated expansion of the Universe or even unified evolution which includes inflation with dark energy, and at the same time in the same theoretical framework, dark matter is described by the theory. This is achieved by the re-parametrization of the metric tensor, which intr…
This work explains how the presence of a Type-IV singularity (a mild singularity) can influence the dynamics of a bouncing universe. In particular, we examine bounce cosmology that appears with a Type-IV singularity in the context of a ghost free Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity. Depending on the time of occurrence of the Type-IV singularity, three different cases may arise -- when the singularity occurs before the bounce or after the bounce or at the instant of the bounce respectively. However in all of these cases, we find that in the case when the singularity "globally" affects the spacetime,…
In the context of a ghost free $f(R,\mathcal{G})$ model, an extended matter bounce scenario is studied where the form of the scale factor is given by $a(t) = (a_0t^2 + 1)^n$. The ghost free character of the model is ensured by the presence of a Lagrange multiplier, as developed in \cite{Nojiri:2018ouv}. The conditions under which, in this model, the speed of gravitational waves becomes equal to the speed of light (equal to one, in natural units), thus becoming compatible with the striking event GW170817, is investigated. It is shown that this happens for a class of Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling f…
