HD165052 is a short-period massive eccentric binary system that undergoes apsidal motion. As the rate of apsidal motion is directly related to the internal structure constants of the binary components, its study allows to get insight into the internal structure of the stars. We use medium- and high-resolution spectroscopic observations of HD165052 to provide constraints on the fundamental properties of the binary system and the evolutionary state of its components. We apply a spectral disentangling code to reconstruct artefact-free spectra of the individual stars and derive the radial velocities (RVs) at the times of the observations. We perform the first analysis of the disentangled spectra with the non-LTE model atmosphere code CMFGEN to determine the stellar properties. We derive the first self-consistent orbital solution of all existing RV data, including those reported in the literature, accounting for apsidal motion. We build, for the very first time, dedicated stellar evolution tracks with the Clés code requesting the theoretical effective temperatures and luminosities to match those obtained from our spectroscopic analysis. The binary system HD165052, consisting of an O6.5V((f)) primary and an O7V((f)) secondary, displays apsidal motion at a rate of (11.30+0.64-0.49)$°$yr$^{-1}$. Evolutionary masses are compared to minimum dynamical masses to constrain the orbital inclination. Evolutionary masses Mev,P=24.8$\pm$1.0M$_\odot$ and Mev,S=20.9$\pm$1.0M$_\odot$ and radii Rev,P=7.0+0.5-0.4R$_\odot$ and Rev,S=6.2+0.4-0.3R$_\odot$ are derived, and the inclination is constrained to 22.1$°\le i\le 23.3°$. Theoretical apsidal motion rates, derived assuming an age of 2.0+/-0.5 Myr for the binary, are in agreement with the observational determination. The agreement with theoretical apsidal motion rates enforces the inferred values of the evolutionary stellar masses and radii.
We present an extensive study of 162 early-type binary systems located in the LMC galaxy that show apsidal motion and have never been studied before. For the ample systems, we performed light curve and apsidal motion modelling for the first time. These systems have a median orbital period of 2.2 days and typical periods of the apsidal motion were derived to be of the order of decades. We identified two record-breaking systems. The first, OGLE LMC-ECL-22613, shows the shortest known apsidal motion period among systems with main sequence components (6.6 years); it contains a third component with…
We present the first modern analysis of two young, eclipsing binaries, EK Cep and HS Her, based on new, ground-based, CCD multicolour light curves as well as the TESS observations, radial velocity curves, and eclipse timing measurements. The orbital and stellar parameters of the stars are determined by Roche modelling, and their evolutionary status is examined using a grid of isochrones and evolutionary tracks. We find that HS Her is 25-32 Myr old and its components are on the zero-age main sequence; at the age of 16-20 Myr, the primary of EK Cep is also on the ZAMS, but its secondary is a pre…
This paper is part of a study of the apsidal motion in close eccentric massive binary systems, which aims to constrain the internal structure of the stars. We focus on the binary CPD-41°7742 and revisit HD152218. Independent studies of CPD-41°7742 in the past showed large discrepancies in the longitude of periastron of the orbit, hinting at the presence of apsidal motion. We perform a consistent analysis of all observational data, explicitly accounting for the apsidal motion. We use spectroscopic and photometric observations of CPD-41°7742 to infer values for the fundamental stellar and binary…
The measurement of the apsidal motion in close eccentric massive binary systems provides essential information to probe the internal structure of the stars that compose the system. Following the determination of the fundamental stellar and binary parameters, we make use of the tidally induced apsidal motion to infer constraints on the internal structure of the stars composing the binary system HD152219. The extensive set of spectroscopic, photometric, and radial velocity observations allows us to constrain the fundamental parameters of the stars together with the rate of apsidal motion of the …
We analyze the eccentric response of a low mass coplanar circumbinary disc to secular tidal forcing by a Keplerian eccentric orbit central binary. The disc acquires a forced eccentricity whose magnitude depends on the properties of the binary and disc. The largest eccentricities occur when there is a global apsidal resonance in the disc. The driving frequency by the binary is its apsidal frequency that is equal to zero. A global resonance occurs when the disc properties permit the existence of a zero apsidal frequency free eccentric mode. Resonances occur for different free eccentric modes tha…
Here we present an ensemble study of spin-orbit alignment in 51 close double star systems. We determine spin-orbit angles, obliquities, in 39 of these systems making use of recently improved apsidal motion rate measurements and apsidal motion constants. In the remaining 12 systems researchers have constrained spin-orbit alignment by different combinations of measurements of apsidal motion rates, projected obliquities and stellar inclinations. Of the 51 systems 48 are consistent with alignment albeit with some measurements having large uncertainties. A Fisher distribution with mean zero and a c…
Apsidal motion in massive eccentric binaries offers precious information about the internal structure of the stars. This is especially true for twin binaries consisting of two nearly identical stars. We make use of the tidally induced apsidal motion in the twin binary HD152248 to infer constraints on the internal structure of the O7.5 III-II stars composing this system. We build stellar evolution models with the code Clés assuming different prescriptions for the internal mixing occurring inside the stars. We identify the models that best reproduce the observationally determined present-day pro…
We report long-termed UBVRIRcIc photometry of the highly eccentric 12.04 day detached eclipsing binary V490 Sct (V =13.1, B9.5+A0, e = 0.40), which we use to determine its relative and absolute parameters. The absolute masses, radii, and temperatures are Ma = 2.33+/-0.1 Msun, Ra = 1.91+/-0.04 Rsun, and Ta = 9960+/-60 K for the primary and Mb = 2.24+/-0.1 Msun, Rb = 1.86+/-0.04 Rsun, and Tb = 9700+/-80 K for the secondary. The system displays a slow periastron advance that is dominated by general relativity (GR). Our measurement, dw/dt = 0.86 deg/century, is 32% less then the expected rate, dw/…

The change in the argument of periastron of eclipsing binaries, i.e., the apsidal motion caused by classical and relativistic effects, can be measured from variations in the difference between the time of minimum light of the primary and secondary eclipses. Poor apsidal motion rate determinations and large uncertainties in the classical term have hampered previous attempts to determine the general relativistic term with sufficient precision to test General Relativity predictions. As a product of the TESS mission, thousands of high-precision light curves from eclipsing binaries are now availabl…
Double-lined eclipsing binaries allow the direct determination of masses and radii, which are key to test stellar models. With the launch of the TESS mission, many well-known eclipsing binaries have been observed at higher photometric precision, permitting the improvement of the absolute dimensions determinations. Using TESS data and newly-obtained spectroscopic observations, we aim at determining the masses and radii of the eccentric eclipsing binary systems V889 Aql and V402 Lac, together with their apsidal motion parameters. We modelled simultaneously radial velocity curves and times of ecl…
Classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs) are young stellar objects that accrete materials from their accretion disc influenced by their strong magnetic field. The magnetic pressure truncates the disc at a few stellar radii and forces the material to leave the disc plane and fall onto the stellar surface by following the magnetic field lines. However, this global scheme may be disturbed by the presence of a companion interacting gravitationally with the accreting component. This work is aiming to study the accretion and the magnetic field of the tight eccentric binary DQ Tau, composed of two equal-mass …
Apsidal motion is a gradual shift in the position of periastron. The impact of dynamic tides on apsidal motion has long been debated, because the contribution could not be quantified due to the lack of high quality observations. KIC 4544587 with tidally excited oscillations has been observed by \textit{Kepler} high-precision photometric data based on long time baseline and short-cadence schema. In this paper, we compute the rate of apsidal motion that arises from the dynamic tides as $19.05\pm 1.70$ mrad yr$^{-1}$ via tracking the orbital phase shifts of tidally excited oscillations. We also c…
