The hyperon dynamics in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energy has been investigated within the quantum molecular dynamics transport model. The isospin and momentum dependent hyperon-nucleon potential and the threshold energy correction on the hyperon elementary cross section are included in the model. It is found that the high-density symmetry energy is dependent on the isospin ratios $Σ^{-}/Σ^{+}$ and $Ξ^{-}/Ξ^{0}$, in particular in the domain of high kinetic energies. The isospin diffusion in heavy-ion collisions influences the neutron/proton ratio in the high-density region. The $Σ^{-}/Σ^{+}$ ratio depends on the stiffness of symmetry energy, in particular at the beam energy below the threshold value (E$_{th}$=1.58 GeV), i.e., the kinetic energy spectra of the single ratios, excitation functions and energy spectra of the double ratios in the isotopic reactions of $^{108}$Sn + $^{112}$Sn, $^{112}$Sn + $^{112}$Sn, $^{124}$Sn + $^{124}$Sn and $^{132}$Sn + $^{124}$Sn. The double strangeness ratio $Ξ^{-}/Ξ^{0}$ weakly depends on the symmetry energy because of the hyperon-hyperon collision mainly contributing the $Ξ$ production below the threshold energy (E$_{th}$ = 3.72 GeV).
Using a gauged flavor SU(3)-invariant hadronic Lagrangian, we calculate the cross sections for the strangeness-exchange reactions YY to NΞ(Y=Λ, Σ) in the Born approximation. These cross sections are then used in the Relativistic Vlasov-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (RVUU) transport model to study Ξproduction in Ar+KCl collisions at incident energy of 1.76A GeV and impact parameter b=3.5 fm. We find that including the contributions of hyperon-hyperon scattering channels strongly enhances the yield of Ξ, leading to the abundance ratio Ξ^{-}/(Λ+Σ^{0})=3.38E-3, which is essentially consistent with the recentl…
We present an analysis of $Ξ^-$ baryon production in subthreshold proton--nucleus ($p+A$) collisions in the framework of a BUU type transport model. We propose a new mechanism for $Ξ$ production in the collision of a secondary $Λ$ or $Σ$ hyperon and a nucleon from the target nucleus. We find that the $Ξ^-$ multiplicity in $p+A$ collisions is sensitive to the angular distribution of hyperon production in the primary $N+N$ collision. Using reasonable assumptions on the unknown elementary cross sections we are able to reproduce the $Ξ^-$ multiplicity and the $Ξ^-/(Λ+Σ^0)$ ratio obtained in the HA…
We present a minimal statistical model designed for the description of rare-hadron multiplicities in nucleus-nucleus collisions at energies below the threshold of the particle production in binary elementary collisions. Differences to more conventional canonical statistical model are explained. The minimal statistical model is applied to the description of multiplicity ratios involving $Ξ$ hyperons, which are measured by the HADES collaboration at GSI-SIS. It is argued that the HADES data cannot be reproduced by the model based on the statistical equilibrium and the strangeness conservation. T…
Within a BUU type transport model we study $ϕ$ meson production in subthreshold Ni+Ni and Ru+Ru reactions. For the first time we included in our model the elementary reaction channels $ρ+N,Δ\to ϕ+N$, $π+N(1520) \to ϕ+N$ and $πρ$ $\to$ $ϕ$. In spite of a substantial increase of the $ϕ$ multiplicities by these channels our results stay significantly below the preliminary experimental data.
Within the framework of the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics model, the deep subthreshold antiproton production in heavy-ion collisions has been investigated thoroughly. The elastic scattering, annihilation and charge exchange reactions associated with antiproton channels are implemented in the model. The attractive antiproton potential extracted from the G-parity transformation of the nucleon selfenergies enhance the antiproton yields to some extent. The calculated invariant spectra are consistent with the available experimental data. The primordial antiproton yields increase with the mass …
Within a transport code of BUU type the production of phi-mesons in the reactions Ni+Ni at 1.93 AGeV and Ru+Ru at 1.69 AGeV is studied. New elementary reaction channels rho+N(Delta) to phi+N and pi+N(1520) to phi+N are included. In spite of a substantial increase of the ϕmultiplicities by these channels the results stay below the tentative numbers extracted from experimental data.
Subthreshold kaon (K$^{0}$ and K$^{+}$) production in neutron-rich nuclear reactions to probe the kaon-nucleon interaction in nuclear medium and to extract the isospin dependent part of the nuclear equation of state at high-baryon densities, is investigated within an isospin and momentum dependent transport model. A repulsive kaon-nucleon potential is implemented in the model through fitting the flow data and inclusive spectra in heavy-ion collisions, which enhances the energetic kaon emission squeezed out in the reaction zone and leads to a variation of the high-momentum spectrum of the K$^{0…
Subthreshold events (pion production, for instance) at energies $E< m_π$ are treated as rare events. The associated multiplicity distribution $P_c (n)$ and the unconstrained distribution P(n), when there is no rare event-trigger, are related by the model independent relation $P_c (n) = {n^2 \over \average{n^2}} P(n)$. This relation, and in particular its improved version inspired in clustering of nucleons, is in fair agreement with data. Moreover, it allows to extract from the multiplicity data information on the number of nucleons involved in meson production processes, occuring at energies b…
We investigate the origin of subthreshold $K^+$ production in heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies. In particular we study the influence of the pion induced $K^+$ creation processes. We find that this channel shows a strong dependence on the size of the system, i.e., the number of participating nucleons as well as on the incident energy of the reaction. In an energy region between 1--2 GeV/nucleon the pion induced processes essentially contribute to the total yield and can even become dominant in reactions with a large number of participating nucleons. Thus we are able to reproduce re…
The inclusive K+ mesons production in proton-nucleus collisions in the near threshold and subthreshold energy regimes is analyzed with respect to the one-step (pN->K+YN, Y=Lambda,Sigma) and the two-step (pN->NNpi, NN2pi; piN->K+Y) incoherent production processes on the basis of an appropriate new folding model, which takes properly into account the struck target nucleon removal energy and momentum distribution (nucleon spectral function), extracted from recent quasielastic electron scattering experiments and from many-body calculations with realistic models of the NN interaction. Comparison of…
Within the framework of quantum molecular dynamics transport model, the isospin and in-medium effects on the hyperon production in the reaction of $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au are investigated thoroughly. A repulsive hyperon-nucleon potential from the chiral effective field theory is implemented into the model, which is related to the hyperon momentum and baryon density. The correction on threshold energy of the elementary hyperon cross section is taken into account. It is found that the $Σ$ yields are suppressed in the domain of midrapidity and kinetic energy spectra with the potential. The hypero…
Based on the chiral kinetic approach using initial conditions from a multiphase transport model, we study the spin polarizations of quarks and antiquarks in non-central heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Because of the non-vanishing vorticity field in these collisions, quarks and antiquarks are found to acquire appreciable spin polarizations in the direction perpendicular to the reaction plane. Converting quarks and antiquarks to hadrons via the coalescence model, we further calculate the spin polarizations of Lambda and anti-Lambda hyperons and find their values comp…
Within the microscopic transport, systematic investigation of the many facets of hyperons and hypernuclei up to strangeness $S = -2$ are carried out for $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au and $^{40}$Ca + $^{40}$Ca at the incident energy of $3A$ GeV. The spatial, temporal and density distributions of hyperon production, absorption and freeze-out are thoroughly investigated. The rapidity and kinetic energy spectra of $Ξ$ hyperons and double $Λ$ hypernuclei are analyzed. It is revealed that the chemical balance of hyperon production is established in baryon-baryon channels while the opposite is found in bar…
We summarize what we have learnt about the kaon production in nucleus-nucleus collisions in the last decade. We will address three questions: a) Is the $K^+$ production sensitive to the nuclear equation of state? b) How can it happen that at the same excess energy the same number of $K^+$ and $K^-$ are produced in heavy ion collisions although the elementary cross section in pp collisions differs by orders of magnitudes? and c) Why kaons don't flow?
The momentum distribution of Lambda^0 hyperons produced from the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions is calculated in dependence on their polarization. The momentum distribution of Lambda^0 hyperons is defined by matrix elements of relativistic quark Wigner operators, which are calculated within the Effective quark model with chiral U(3)xU(3) symmetry and the Quark-Gluon transport theory. We show that the polarization of the Lambda^0 hyperon depends of the spin of the strange quark that agrees well with the DeGrand-Miettinen model. We show that Lambda^0 hyperons…
Global spin polarization of hyperons is an important observable to probe the vorticity of the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy-ion collisions. We calculate the global polarizations of $Λ$, $Ξ^-$, and $Ω^-$ in Au+Au collisions at energies $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=$ 7.7--200 GeV based on a multiphase transport model. Our calculations suggest that their primary global polarizations fulfill $P_{Ω^-}\simeq 5/3P_{Ξ^-}\simeq 5/3P_Λ$. We also estimate the feed-down effect of particle decay on the global polarization. With the feed-down effect taken into account, the global polarizations of $Λ$ and $Ξ^-…
Weak SU(3) symmetry is successfully applied to the weak hadronic decay amplitudes of octet hyperons. Weak nonmesonic and mesonic decays of various dibaryons with strangeness, their dominant decay modes, and lifetimes are calculated. Production estimates for BNL's Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider are presented employing wave function coalescence. Signals for detecting strange dibaryon states in heavy-ion collisions and revealing information about the unknown hyperon-hyperon interactions are outlined.
We systematically study the hyperon global polarization's sensitivity to the collision systems' initial longitudinal flow velocity in hydrodynamic simulations. By explicitly imposing local energy-momentum conservation when mapping the initial collision geometry to macroscopic hydrodynamic fields, we study the evolution of systems' orbital angular momentum (OAM) and fluid vorticity. We find that a simultaneous description of the $Λ$ hyperons' global polarization and the slope of pion's directed flow can strongly constrain the size of longitudinal flow at the beginning of hydrodynamic evolution.…
Mapping out the equation of state (EOS) of nuclear matter is a long standing problem in nuclear physics. Recent emphasis is onto the density dependence of the symmetry energy, with experiments needing dedicated symmetry-energy observables. Towards the latter goal, we employ pBUU transport model to simulate pion production in heavy ion collision (HIC). We find that the net pion yield tests the momentum dependence of nuclear mean field (MF). In exploring the sensitivity of pion observables to the symmetry energy at higher than normal densities, we find that our calculations of pion ratios contra…
The cross sections for producing K$^-$ mesons in nucleon-hyperon elementary processes are estimated assuming one-pion exchange and using the experimentally known pion-hyperon cross sections. The results are implemented in a transport model which is applied to calculation of proton-nucleus collisions. In significant difference to earlier estimates for heavy-ion collisions the inclusion of the nucleon-hyperon cross section roughly doubles the K$^-$ production in near-threshold proton-nucleus collisions.
We investigate the hidden strange $ϕ$ meson production in heavy-ion collisions from subthreshold ($E_{kin}\approx 1$ A GeV) to relativistic ($E_{kin}\approx 21$ A TeV) energies as well as its coupling to the open strange mesons (kaons, antikaons) and their productions. Our study is based on the off-shell microscopic Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach which is applicable for the dynamical description of strongly interacting hadronic and partonic degrees-of-freedom created in heavy-ion collisions. Implementing novel meson-baryon and meson-hyperon production channels for $ϕ$ …

Only a fraction of all $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons detected in heavy ion collisions are produced from the hot and dense matter directly at the hadronization. These hyperons are called the {\em primary} hyperons. The rest of the hyperons are products of the decays of heavier hyperon states, which in turn are produced at the hadronization. As such, the polarization of only primary hyperons can be described with the formulae introduced in Sect. 8. For the rest of the hyperons, the polarization transfer in the decays has to be computed, and convoluted with the polarization of the mother hyperon. In t…

We use the Isospin Quantum Molecular Dynamics approach supplemented with a phase space coalescence to study the properties of the production of hypertritons. We see strong influences of the hyperon rescattering on the yields. The hypertritons show up to be quite aligned to the properties of nuclear matter underlining the necessity of rescattering to transport the hyperons to the spectator matter.
The phase diagram of nuclear matter is extended to strangeness and antimatter. It offers fascinating features for heavy ion physics and astrophysics. We will discuss some regions of this phase diagram as strange matter at zero temperature, hypermatter at high densities and the antiworld at high densities and strangeness fraction.
Dynamics of pseudoscalar mesons ($π$, $η$, $K$ and $\overline{K}$ ) and hyperons ($Λ$ and $Σ$) produced in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model. The in-medium modifications on particle production in dense nuclear matter are implemented in the model through corrections on the elementary cross sections and by inclusion of the meson (hyperon)-nucleon potentials, in which the isospin effects are considered. It is found that the transportation of particles are influenced with the in-medium corrections…
We study the structure of vorticity and hydrodynamic helicity fields in peripheral heavy-ion collisions using the kinetic Quark-Gluon String Model. The angular momentum conservation within this model holds with a good accuracy. We observe the formation of specific toroidal structures of vorticity field (vortex sheets). Their existence is mirrored in the polarization of hyperons of the percent order.
Experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) have measured the net polarization of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons and attributed it to a coupling between their spin and the vorticity of the fluid created in heavy ion collisions, but how the spin comes to equilibrium with vorticity is an open problem. Recently we found that vorticity fluctuations and helicity flip of strange quarks in quark-gluon plasma through perturbative QCD processes resulted in equilibration times far too long to be relevant. Here we consider the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the inclusion of the six-quark Kobayash…
We study the formation of fluid vorticity and the hyperon polarization in heavy-ion collisions at NICA energies in the framework of the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamic Model, taking into account both hadronic and quark-gluonic (partonic) degrees of freedom. The vorticity properties in peripheral Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$7.7\,GeV are demonstrated and confronted with other models. The obtained result for the $Λ$ polarization is in agreement with the experimental data by the STAR collaboration, whereas the model is not able to explain the observed high values of the anti-hyperon $\barΛ$ p…
We examine the $Λ$ potential from the chiral effective field theory ($χ$EFT) via the $Λ$ directed flow from heavy-ion collisions. We implement the $Λ$ potential obtained from the $χ$EFT in a vector potential version of relativistic quantum molecular dynamics. We find that the $Λ$ potentials obtained from the $χ$EFT assuming weak momentum dependence reproduce the $Λ$ directed flow measured by the STAR collaboration in the Beam Energy Scan program. While the $Λ$ directed flow is not very sensitive to the density dependence of the potential, the directed flow at large rapidities is susceptible to…
We argue that the enhancement in the spin polarization of anti-hyperons compared to the polarization of the hyperons in noncentral relativistic heavy-ion collisions arises as a result of an interplay between the chiral and helical vortical effects. The chiral vortical effect generates the axial current of quarks along the vorticity axis while the recently found helical vortical effect generates the helicity flow -- the projection of the quark's polarization vector onto its momentum -- along the same axis. For massless fermions, the helical charge corresponds to a difference in the contribution…

Kaon production cross sections in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions are studied in a boson exchange model. For the latter two interactions, the exchanged pion can be on-mass shell, only contributions due to a virtual pion are included via the Peierls method by taking into account the finite delta width. With these cross sections and also those for pion-baryon interactions, subthreshold kaon production from heavy ion collisions is studied in the relativistic transport model.
We study the energy dependence of global polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in peripheral $Au-Au$ collisions. We combine the calculation of vorticity and strange chemical potential in the framework of kinetic Quark-Gluon String Model with the anomalous mechanism related to axial vortical effect. The earlier found effect of helicity separation implies the quadrupole structure of longitudinal vorticity. We pay special attention to the temperature dependent contribution related to gravitational anomaly and found that the preliminary RHIC data are compatible with its suppression discovered earlier in la…
The excitation function of freeze-out time, average freeze-out temperature and freeze-out energy density of (multi-) strange baryons created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is investigated in the framework of a microscopic transport model. We find that the Omega on average freezes out earlier than the nucleon, Xi and Lambda. The average freeze-out temperature and energy density as well as the spread between the different baryonicstates increase monotonously with increasing beam energy and should approach a universal value in the case of a hadronizing Quark-Gluon-Plasma.
We report on the core-corona model developed to describe the main features of hyperon global polarization in semicentral relativistic heavy-ion collisions as a function of the collision energy. We first neglect the contribution to polarization from hyperons produced in the corona. In this scenario, the global polarization turns out to be described by a delicate balance between the vorticity-to-spin transferring reactions in the core and the predominance of corona over core matter at low energies. We show how this last feature provides a key ingredient missing in our original model that helps t…
We discuss strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions within and around the energy range of the planned NICA facility. We describe the minimal statistical model, in which the total strangeness yield is fixed by the observed or calculated $K^+$ multiplicity. We show how the exact strangeness conservation can be taken into account on the event-by-event basis in such a model. We argue that from strange particle yields one can reveal information about the collision dynamics and about possible modifications of particle properties in medium. This can be best achieved if the complete strangeness …
The properties of strange hadrons, i.e. of kaons and hyperons, in the nuclear medium are discussed in connection with neutron star properties and relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Firstly, the relevant medium modifications of a kaon in a medium as provided by heavy-ion collisions is critically examined within a coupled channel calculation. We demonstrate, that particle ratios for kaons are not a sensitive probe of in-medium effects while the K- flow is more suited to pin down the K- optical potential in dense matter. Secondly, the interaction between hyperons is studied and may form bound sta…
Collective flow of Lambda hyperons in heavy ion reactions at SIS energies is investigated. It is found that a $Λ$ mean field constructed on the basis of the quark model leads to a good description of the experimental data of the in-plane transverse flow of $Λ$'s. The attractive mean field can also give rise to an additional "virtual" $Λ$ radial flow directed inwards, which is reflected by a "concave" structure of the transverse mass spectrum of the $Λ$ hyperons emitted at midrapidity. The $Λ$ radial flow is found to exhibit a strong mass dependence: The flow is visible in the Ni+Ni system, but…
We investigate the observable effects of off-shell propagation of nucleons in heavy-ion collisions at SIS energies. Within a semi-classical BUU transport model we find a strong enhancement of subthreshold particle production when off-shell nucleons are propagated.
We study the antikaon-induced inclusive cascade $Ξ^-$ hyperon production from $^{12}$C and $^{184}$W target nuclei near threshold within a nuclear spectral function approach. The approach describes incoherent direct $Ξ^-$ hyperon production in elementary ${K^-}p \to {K^+}Ξ^-$ and ${K^-}n \to {K^0}Ξ^-$ processes as well as takes into account the influence of the scalar nuclear $K^-$, $K^+$, $K^0$, $Ξ^-$ and their Coulomb potentials on these processes. We calculate the absolute differential and total cross sections for the production of $Ξ^-$ hyperons off these nuclei at laboratory angles $\le$ …
Characteristics of the nuclear equation of state (EOS) and its importance, in particular for astrophysics, are discussed. Selected observables in nuclear collisions are sensitive to the EOS and can be used to constrain it. For central collisions, these include collective flow asymmetries, subthreshold kaon yields and isospin diffusion. Comparisons between the data and transport theory suggest an energy per nucleon that rises relatively slowly with density for symmetric matter and symmetry energy that rises relatively quickly around the normal nuclear density.
On the basis of the $pΞ^-$ interaction extracted from (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD simulations at the physical point, the momentum correlation of $p$ and $Ξ^-$ produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions is evaluated. $C_{\rm SL}(Q)$ defined by a ratio of the momentum correlations between the systems with different source sizes is shown to be largely enhanced at low momentum due to the strong attraction between $p$ and $Ξ^-$ in the $I=J=0$ channel. Thus, measuring this ratio at RHIC and LHC and its comparison to the theoretical analysis will give a useful constraint on the $pΞ^-$ interaction.

We address the issue of energy and charge dependence of global polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in peripheral $Au-Au$ collisions recently observed by the STAR collaboration at RHIC. We compare different contributions to the anomalous mechanism relating polarization to vorticity and hydrodynamic helicity in QCD matter. We stress that the suppression of the gravitational anomaly contribution in strongly correlated matter observed in lattice simulations confirms our earlier prediction of rapid decrease of polarization with increasing collision energy. Our mechanism leads to polarization of $\bar Λ$ o…
We perform a systematic study of the spin polarization of hyperons in heavy-ion collisions using the MUSIC hydrodynamic model with A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) pre-equilibrium dynamics. Our model calculations nicely describe the measured collision-energy, centrality, rapidity, and $p_T$ dependence of $Λ$ polarization. We also study and predict the global spin polarization of $Ξ^-$ and $Ω^-$ as a function of collision energy, which provides a baseline for the studies of the magnetic moment, spin, and mass dependence of the spin polarization. For the local spin polarization, we calculate the r…
Global polarization of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons in Au+Au collisions at collision energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 4-40 GeV in the midrapidity region and total polarization, i.e. averaged over all rapidities, are studied within the scope of the thermodynamical approach. The relevant vorticity is simulated within the model of the three-fluid dynamics (3FD). It is found that the performed rough estimate of the global midrapidity polarization quite satisfactorily reproduces the experimental STAR data on the polarization, especially its collision-energy dependence. The total polarization increases with th…
We revisit the azimuthal angle dependence of the local spin polarization of hyperons in heavy-ion collisions at 200 GeV in the framework of the (3+1)D viscous hydrodynamic model CLVisc. Two different initial conditions are considered in our simulation: the optical Glauber initial condition without initial orbital angular momentum and the AMPT initial condition with an initial orbital angular momentum. We find that the azimuthal angle dependence of the hyperon polarization strongly depends on the choice of the so-called "spin chemical potential" $Ω_{μν}$. With $Ω_{μν}$ chosen to be proportional…
Due to the presence of a large orbital angular momentum of the parton system produced at the early stage of non-central heavy-ion collisions, quarks and anti-quarks are shown to be polarized in the direction opposite to the reaction plane which is determined by the impact-parameter and the beam momentum. The global quark polarization via elastic scattering was first calculated in an effective static potential model, then using QCD at finite temperature with the hard-thermal-loop re-summed gluon propagator. The measurable consequences are discussed. Global hyperon polarization from the hadroniz…
The formation of dibaryons with strangeness are discussed for the interior of neutron stars and for central relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We derive limits for the properties of H-dibaryons from pulsar data. Signals for the formation of possible bound states with hyperons at BNL's Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) are investigated by studying their weak decay patterns and production rates.
We predict the polarization of Lambda and antiLambda hyperons in peripheral heavy ion collisions at ultrarelativistic energy, based on the assumption of local thermodynamical equilibrium at freeze-out. The polarization vector is proportional to the curl of the inverse temperature four-vector field and its length, of the order of percents, is maximal for particle with moderately high momentum lying on the reaction plane. A selective measurement of these particles could make Lambda polarization detectable.
