In previous articles we have studied the A_n tt*-Toda equations (topological-antitopological fusion equations of Toda type) of Cecotti and Vafa, giving details mainly for n=3. Here we give a proof of the existence and uniqueness of global solutions for any n, and a new treatment of their asymptotic data, monodromy data, and Stokes data.
We give a Lie-theoretic explanation for the convex polytope which parametrizes the globally smooth solutions of the topological-antitopological fusion equations of Toda type (tt$^*$-Toda equations) which were introduced by Cecotti and Vafa. It is known from [GL] [GIL1] [M1] [M2] that these solutions can be parametrized by monodromy data of a certain flat $SL_{n+1}\mathbb{R}$-connection. Using Boalch's Lie-theoretic description of Stokes data, and Steinberg's description of regular conjugacy classes of a linear algebraic group, we express this monodromy data as a convex subset of a Weyl alcove …
We propose a Lie-theoretic definition of the tt*-Toda equations for any complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, based on the concept of topological-antitopological fusion which was introduced by Cecotti and Vafa. Our main result concerns the Stokes data of a certain meromorphic connection, whose isomonodromic deformations are controlled by these equations. Exploiting a framework introduced by Boalch, we show that this data has a remarkable structure, which can be described using Kostant's theory of Cartan subalgebras in apposition and Steinberg's theory of conjugacy classes of regular eleme…
We relate the quantum cohomology of minuscule flag manifolds to the tt*-Toda equations, a special case of the topological-antitopological fusion equations which were introduced by Cecotti and Vafa in their study of supersymmetric quantum field theories. To do this, we combine the Lie-theoretic treatment of the tt*-Toda equations of Guest-Ho with the Lie-theoretic description of the quantum cohomology of minuscule flag manifolds from Chaput-Manivel-Perrin and Golyshev-Manivel.
We give a construction which produces a positive energy representation of the affine Lie algebra of type A_n from the Stokes data of a solution of the tt*-Toda equations of type A_n. The construction appears to play a role in conformal field theory. We illustrate this with several examples: the fusion ring, W-algebra minimal models (Argyres-Douglas theory), as well as topological-antitopological fusion itself. (Minor typographical changes for this version.)
We evaluate explicitly, in terms of the asymptotic data, the ratio of the constant pre-factors in the large and small $x$ asymptotics of the tau functions for global solutions of the tt{*}-Toda equations. This constant problem for the sinh-Gordon equation, which is the case $n=1$ of the tt{*}-Toda equations, was solved by C. A. Tracy. We also introduce natural symplectic structures on the space of asymptotic data and on the space of monodromy data for a wider class of solutions, and show that these symplectic structures are preserved by the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence.
We introduce a class of Higgs bundles called cyclic which lie in the Hitchin component of representations of a compact Riemann surface into the split real form of a simple Lie group. We then prove that such a Higgs bundle is equivalent to a certain class of solutions to the affine Toda equations. We further explain this relationships in terms of lifts of harmonic maps.
On a Riemann surface with a holomorphic $r$-differential, one can naturally define a Toda equation and a cyclic Higgs bundle with a grading. A solution of the Toda equation is equivalent to a harmonic metric of the Higgs bundle for which the grading is orthogonal. Here we focus on a general non-compact Riemann surface with an $r$-differential which is not necessarily meromorphic at infinity. We introduce the notion of complete solution of the Toda equation, and we prove the existence and uniqueness of a complete solution by using techniques for both Toda equations and harmonic bundles. Moreove…
We establish an explicit correspondence between two--dimensional projective structures admitting a projective vector field, and a class of solutions to the $SU(\infty)$ Toda equation. We give several examples of new, explicit solutions of the Toda equation, and construct their mini--twistor spaces. Finally we discuss the projective-to-Einstein correspondence, which gives a neutral signature Einstein metric on a cotangent bundle $T^*N$ of any projective structure $(N, [\nabla])$. We show that there is a canonical Einstein of metric on an $\R^*$--bundle over $T^*N$, with a connection whose curva…
I show that solutions of the SU(infinity) Toda field equation generating a fixed Einstein-Weyl space are governed by a linear equation on the Einstein-Weyl space. From this, obstructions to the existence of Toda solutions generating a given Einstein-Weyl space are found. I also give a classification of Einstein-Weyl spaces arising from the Toda equation in more than one way. This classification coincides with a class of spaces found by Ward and hence clarifies some of their properties. I end by discussing the simplest examples.
This paper establishes certain existence and classification results for solutions to $SU(n)$ Toda systems with three singular sources at 0, 1, and $\infty$. First, we determine the necessary conditions for such an $SU(n)$ Toda system to be related to an $n$th order hypergeometric equation. Then, we construct solutions for $SU(n)$ Toda systems that satisfy the necessary conditions and also the interlacing conditions from Beukers and Heckman. Finally, for $SU(3)$ Toda systems satisfying the necessary conditions, we classify, under a natural reality assumption, that all the solutions are related …
We consider the Toda systems of VHS type with singular sources and provide a criterion for the existence of solutions with prescribed asymptotic behaviour near singularities. We also prove the uniqueness of solution. Our approach uses Simpson's theory of constructing Higgs-Hermitian-Yang-Mills metrics from stability.
On the base of Lie algebraic and differential geometry methods, a wide class of multidimensional nonlinear systems is obtained, and the integration scheme for such equations is proposed.
We show that any cyclically symmetric monopole is gauge equivalent to Nahm data given by Sutcliffe's ansatz, and so obtained from the affine Toda equations. Further the direction (the Ercolani-Sinha vector) and base point of the linearising flow in the Jacobian of the spectral curve associated to the Nahm equations arise as pull-backs of Toda data. A theorem of Accola and Fay then means that the theta-functions arising in the solution of the monopole problem reduce to the theta-functions of Toda.
We obtain explicitly all solutions of the SU(infinity) Toda field equation with the property that the associated Einstein-Weyl space admits a 2-sphere of divergence-free shear-free geodesic congruences. The solutions depend on an arbitrary holomorphic function and give rise to new hyperKahler and selfdual Einstein metrics with one dimensional isometry group. These metrics each admit a compatible hypercomplex structure with respect to which the symmetries are triholomorphic.
