Topology is a promising approach toward to the light ring in a generic black hole background, and equatorial timelike circular orbit in a stationary black hole background. In this paper, we consider the distinct topological configurations of the timelike circular orbits in static, spherically symmetric, and asymptotic flat black holes. By making use of the equation of motion of the massive particles, we construct a vector with its zero points exactly relating with the timelike circular orbits. Since each zero point of the vector can be endowed with a winding number, the topology of the timelike circular orbits is well established. Stable and unstable timelike circular orbits respectively have winding number +1 and -1. In particular, for given angular momentum, the topological number of the timelike circular orbits also vanishes whether they are rotating or not. Moreover, we apply the study to the Schwarzschild, scalarized Einstein-Maxwell, and dyonic black holes, which have three distinct topological configurations, representations of the radius and angular momentum relationship, with one or two pairs timelike circular orbits at most. It is shown that although the existence of scalar hair and quasi-topological term leads to richer topological configurations of the timelike circular orbits, they have no influence on the total topological number. These results indicate that the topological approach indeed provides us a novel way to understand the timelike circular orbits. Significantly, different topological configurations can share the same topology number, and hence belong to the same topological class. More information is expected to be disclosed when other different topological configurations are present.
Null and timelike equatorial orbits are investigated in a family of hairy black holes in the cubic Galileon theory. These include rotating generalizations of static black hole metrics supporting a time-dependent scalar field. Depending on the coupling and rotation, the properties of the geodesics expectedly deviate from general relativity. In particular, it is found that stable circular geodesics only exist below a critical coupling, which is related to the existence of an outermost stable circular orbit. Focusing on the strong-field region, images of an accretion disk are also produced to hig…
A topological approach has been successfully used to study the properties of the light ring and the null circular orbit, in a generic black hole background. However, for the equatorial timelike circular orbit, quite different from the light ring case, its radius is closely dependent of the energy and angular momentum of a test particle. This fact seems to restrict the extension of the topological treatment to the timelike circular orbit. In this paper, we confirm that the angular momentum does not affect the asymptotic behavior of the constructed vector with its zero points denoting the equato…
In a very interesting paper, Hod has proven that the equatorial null circular geodesic provides the extreme orbital period to circle a kerr black hole, which is closely related to the Fermat's principle. In the present paper, we extend the discussion to kerr black holes with scalar field hair. We show that the circle with the extreme orbital period is still identical to the null circular geodesic. Our analysis also implies that the Hod's theorem may be a general property in any axially symmetric spacetime with reflection symmetry on the equatorial plane.
We analyze the stability of circular geodesics for timelike as well as null geodesics of the Kerr BH spacetime with rotation parameter on the equatorial plane by Lyapunov stability analysis. Also, we verify the results of stability by presenting the phase portrait for both timelike and null geodesics. Further, by reviewing the Kosambi-Cartan-Chern (KCC) theory, we analyze the Jacobi stability for Kerr spacetime and present a comparative study of the methods used for stability analysis of geodesics.
It has recently been demonstrated that magnetized black holes in composed Einstein-Maxwell-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet field theories with a non-minimal negative coupling of the scalar field to the Gauss-Bonnet curvature invariant may support spatially regular scalar hairy configurations. In particular, it has been revealed that, for Schwarzschild-Melvin black-hole spacetimes, the onset of the near-horizon spontaneous scalarization phenomenon is marked by the numerically computed dimensionless critical relation $(BM)_{\text{crit}}\simeq0.971$, where $\{M,B\}$ are respectively the mass and the magnetic…
We construct novel solutions to the effective Einstein equation with four dimensional cosmological constant on a 3-brane in Randall-Sundrum II scenario. The charged solution is obtained by assuming the existence of localized Maxwell fields on the 3-brane. Timelike and null circular geodesics in the neutral rotating braneworld spacetime with NUT parameter are discussed, and we find that such geodesics cannot occur on the equatorial plane. On non-equatorial planes, timelike circular geodesics can occur for the negative tidal charge, but we cannot find numerical results to support the existence o…
We study the order ten polynomial equation satisfied by the radius of the spherical timelike orbits for a massive particle with a generic energy around a Kerr black hole. Even though the radii of the prograde and retrograde orbits at the equatorial or polar plane for particles with zero or unit energy have a monotonic dependence on the rotation parameter of the black hole, we show that there is a critical inclination angle above which the retrograde orbits have a nonmonotonic dependency on the rotation of the black hole. Thus the capture cross-section of these retrograde orbits decrease with i…
Einstein gravity supplemented by a scalar field non-minimally coupled to a Gauss-Bonnet term provides an example of model of scalar-tensor gravity where hairy black holes do exist. We consider the classical equations within a metric endowed with a NUT-charge and obtain a two-parameter family of nutty-hairy black holes. The pattern of these solutions in the exterior and the interior of their horizon is studied in some details. The influence of both -- the hairs and the NUT-charge -- on the lightlike and timelike geodesics is emphasized.
We present exact solutions in Einstein-aether theory in a static spherically symmetric background space with a spacelike aether field, as a difference with the usual selection of timelike aether field. We assume a coupling between the scalar field and the aether field introduced in the aether coefficients. The exact spacetimes describe hairy black hole solutions for which the limits of the Schwarzschild, de-Sitter Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström metrics are recovered.
In this article, we look into geodesics in the Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter metric in (3+1) spacetime dimensions. We investigate the class of marginally bound geodesics (timelike and null), while comparing their behavior with the normal Schwarzschild metric. Using $\textit{Mathematica}$, we calculate the shear and rotation tensors, along with other components of the Raychaudhuri equation in this metric and we argue that marginally bound timelike geodesics, in the equatorial plane, always have a turning point, while their null analogues have at least one family of geodesics that are unbound. We…
Astrometric observations of S-stars provide a unique opportunity to probe the nature of Sagittarius-A* (Sgr-A*). In view of this, it has become important to understand the nature and behavior of timelike bound trajectories of particles around a massive central object. It is known now that whereas the Schwarzschild black hole does not allow the negative precession for the S-stars, the naked singularity spacetimes can admit the positive as well as negative precession for the bound timelike orbits. In this context, we study the perihelion precession of a test particle in the Kerr spacetime geomet…
The precession angular velocity of a gyroscope moving along a general geodesic in the Kerr spacetime is analyzed using the geometric properties of the spacetime. Natural frames along the gyroscope world line are explicitly constructed by boosting frames adapted to fundamental observers. A novel geometrical description is given to Marck's construction of a parallel propagated orthonormal frame along a general geodesic, identifying and clarifying the special role played by the Carter family of observers in this general context, thus extending previous discussion for the equatorial plane case.
In this paper we study geodesic motion around a distorted Schwarzschild black hole. We consider both timelike and null geodesics which are confined to the black hole's equatorial plane. Such geodesics generically exist if the distortion field has only even interior multipole moments and so the field is symmetric with respect to the equatorial plane. We specialize to the case of distortions defined by a quadrupole Weyl moment. An analysis of the effective potential for equatorial timelike geodesics shows that finite stable orbits outside the black hole are possible only for $q\in(q_{\text{min}}…

The existence and stability of timelike and null circular orbits (COs) in the equatorial plane of general static and axisymmetric (SAS) spacetime are investigated in this work. Using the fixed point approach, we first obtained a necessary and sufficient condition for the non-existence of timelike COs. It is then proven that there will always exist timelike COs at large $ρ$ in an asymptotically flat SAS spacetime with a positive ADM mass and moreover, these timelike COs are stable. Some other sufficient conditions on the stability of timelike COs are also solved. We then found the necessary and…
For a static and spherically symmetric black hole, a photon sphere is composed of circular null geodesics of fixed radius, and plays an important role in observing the black hole. Recently, in an Einstein-Maxwell-scalar model with a non-minimal coupling between the scalar and electromagnetic fields, a class of hairy black holes has been found to possess two unstable and one stable circular null geodesics on the equatorial plane, corresponding to three photon spheres outside the event horizon. In this paper, we study quasinormal modes of the scalar field, which are associated with these circula…
We show that gravitational floating orbits may exist for black holes with rotating hairs. These black hole hairs could originate from the superradiant growth of a light axion field around the rotating black holes. If a test particle rotates around the black hole, its tidal field may resonantly trigger the dynamical transition between a co-rotating state and a dissipative state of the axion cloud. A tidal bulge is generated by the beating of modes, which feeds angular momentum back to the test particle. Following this mechanism, an extreme-mass-ratio-inspiral (EMRI) system, as a source for LISA…
In this work we have presented a special class of Kerr-Newman-NUT black hole, having its horizon located precisely at $r=2M$, for $Q^{2}=l^{2}-a^{2}$, where $M$, $l$, $a$ and $Q$ are respectively mass, NUT, rotation and electric charge parameters of the black hole. Clearly this choice radically alters the causal structure as there exists no Cauchy horizon indicating spacelike nature of the singularity when it exists. On the other hand, there is no curvature singularity for $l^2 > a^2$, however it may have conical singularities. Furthermore there is no upper bound on specific rotation parameter…
A new CUDA-C code for tracing orbits around non-charged black holes is presented. This code, named MALBEC, take advantage of the graphic processing units and the CUDA platform for tracking null and timelike test particles in Schwarzschild and Kerr. Also, a new general set of equations that describe the closed circular orbits of any timelike test particle in the equatorial plane is derived. These equations are extremely important in order to compare the analytical behavior of the orbits with the numerical results and verify the correct implementation of the Runge-Kutta algorithm in MALBEC. Fina…
During the last few decades, there has been a growing interest in exact solutions of Einstein equations describing razor-thin disks. Despite the progress in the area, the analytical study of geodesic motion crossing the disk plane in these systems is not yet so developed. In the present work, we propose a definite vertical stability criterion for circular equatorial timelike geodesics in static, axially symmetric thin disks, possibly surrounded by other structures preserving axial symmetry. It turns out that the strong energy condition for the disk stress-energy content is sufficient for verti…
Herein we explore the non-equatorial constant-$r$ ("quasi-circular") geodesics (both timelike and null) in the Painleve-Gullstrand variant of the Lense-Thirring spacetime recently introduced by the current authors. Even though the spacetime is not spherically symmetric, shells of constant-$r$ geodesics still exist. Whereas the radial motion is (by construction) utterly trivial, determining the allowed locations of these constant-$r$ geodesics is decidedly non-trivial, and the stability analysis is equally tricky. Regarding the angular motion, these constant-$r$ orbits will be seen to exhibit b…
We investigate the stability of both timelike as well as null circular geodesics in the vicinity of a dual (3+1) dimensional stringy black hole (BH) spacetime by using an excellent tool so-called Lyapunov exponent. The proper time ($τ$) Lyapunov exponent ($λ_{p}$) and coordinate time ($t$) Lyapunov exponent~($λ_{c}$) are explicitly derived to analyze the stability of equatorial circular geodesics for the stringy BH spacetime with \emph{electric charge} parameter ($α$) and \emph{magnetic charge} parameter~($Q$). By computing these exponents for both the cases of BH spacetime, it is observed tha…

We present new equilibrium solutions of stationary models of magnetized thick disks (or tori) around Kerr black holes with synchronised scalar hair. The models reported here largely extend our previous results based on constant radial distributions of the specific angular momentum along the equatorial plane. We introduce a new way to prescribe the distribution of the disk's angular momentum based on a combination of two previous proposals and compute the angular momentum distribution outside the equatorial plane by resorting to the construction of von Zeipel cylinders. We find that the effect …
We investigate gravitational lensing and particle motions around non-asymptotically flat black hole spacetime in non-linear, ghost-free massive gravity theory, called de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity. Deflection angle formulae are derived in terms of perihelion parameter. The deflection angle can be positive, zero or even negative with various perihelion distance. The negative angle reveals repulsive behaviour of gravity from a linear term $γ$ in the dRGT black hole solution. We also find an analytically approximated formula of deflection angle in two regimes: large and small $γ…
The Wigner rotations arising from the combination of boosts along two different directions are rederived from a relative boost point of view and applied to gyroscope spin precession along timelike geodesics in a Kerr spacetime, clarifying the geometrical properties of Marck's recipe for describing parallel transport along such world lines expressed in terms of the constants of the motion. His final angular velocity isolates the cumulative spin precession angular velocity independent of the spacetime tilting required to keep the spin 4-vector orthogonal to the gyro 4-velocity. As an explicit ex…
We investigate the redshift and blueshift of light emitted by timelike geodesic particles in orbits around a Kerr-Newman-(anti) de Sitter (KN(a)dS) black hole. Specifically we compute the redshift and blueshift of photons that are emitted by geodesic massive particles and travel along null geodesics towards a distant observer-located at a finite distance from the KN(a)dS black hole. For this purpose we use the Killing-vector formalism and the associated first integrals-constants of motion. We consider in detail stable timelike equatorial circular orbits of stars and express their corresponding…
