The distribution of entangled states is a key task of utmost importance for many quantum information processing protocols. A commonly adopted setup for distributing quantum states envisages the creation of the state in one location, which is then sent to (possibly different) distant receivers through some quantum channels. While it is undoubted and, perhaps, intuitively expected that the distribution of entangled quantum states is less efficient than that of product states, a thorough quantification of this inefficiency (namely, of the difference between the quantum-state transfer fidelity for entangled and factorized states) has not been performed. To this end, in this work, we consider $n$-independent amplitude-damping channels, acting in parallel, i.e., each, locally, on one part of an $n$-qubit state. We derive exact analytical results for the fidelity decrease, with respect to the case of product states, in the presence of entanglement in the initial state, for up to four qubits. Interestingly, we find that genuine multipartite entanglement has a more detrimental effect on the fidelity than two-qubit entanglement. Our results hint at the fact that, for larger $n$-qubit states, the difference in the average fidelity between product and entangled states increases with increasing single-qubit fidelity, thus making the latter a less trustworthy figure of merit.
Hybrid entangled states, having entanglement between different degrees-of-freedom (DoF) of a particle pair, are of great interest for quantum information science and communication protocols. Among different DoFs, the hybrid entangled states encoded with polarization and orbital angular momentum (OAM) allow the generation of qubit-qudit entangled states, macroscopic entanglement with very high quanta of OAM and improvement in angular resolution in remote sensing. Till date, such hybrid entangled states are generated by using a high-fidelity polarization entangled state and subsequent imprinting…

We propose a method for transferring quantum entangled states of two photonic cat-state qubits (cqubits) from two microwave cavities to the other two microwave cavities. This proposal is realized by using four microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting flux qutrit. Because of using four cavities with different frequencies, the inter-cavity crosstalk is significantly reduced. Since only one coupler qutrit is used, the circuit resources is minimized. The entanglement transfer is completed with a single-step operation only, thus this proposal is quite simple. The third energy level of the co…
High-precision time transfer is of fundamental interest in physics and metrology. Quantum time transfer technologies that use frequency-entangled pulses and their coincidence detection have been proposed, offering potential enhancements in precision and better guarantees of security. In this paper, we describe a fiber-optic two-way quantum time transfer experiment. Using quantum nonlocal dispersion cancellation, time transfer over a 20-km fiber link achieves a time deviation of 922 fs over 5 s and 45 fs over 40960 s. The time transfer accuracy as a function of fiber lengths from 15 m to 20 km …
We propose a way for transferring Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled states from $n$ qubits in one cavity onto another $n$ qubits in the other cavity. It is shown that $n$-qubit GHZ states $α\left\vert 00...0\right\rangle +β\left\vert 11...1\right\rangle $ with arbitrary degree of entanglement can be transferred deterministically. Both of the GHZ state transfer and the operation time are not dependent on the number of qubits, and there is no need of measurement. This proposal is quite general and can be applied to accomplish the same task for a wide range of physical qubits. Furthermo…
We present a way to transfer maximally- or partially-entangled states of n single-photon-state (SPS) qubits onto n coherent-state (CS) qubits, by employing 2n microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting flux qutrit. The two logic states of a SPS qubit here are represented by the vacuum state and the single-photon state of a cavity, while the two logic states of a CS qubit are encoded with two coherent states of a cavity. Because of using only one superconducting qutrit as the coupler, the circuit architecture is significantly simplified. The operation time for the state transfer does not i…
We propose the generation of entangled qubits by utilizing the properties of edge states appearing at one end of a periodically driven (Floquet) superconducting qubit chain. Such qubits are naturally protected by the system's topology and their manipulation is possible through adiabatic control of the system parameters. By utilizing a Y-junction geometry, we then develop a protocol to perform high-fidelity transfer of entangled qubits from one end to another end of a qubit chain. Our quantum state transfer protocol is found to be robust against disorder and imperfection in the system parameter…
Quantum state transfer is one of the basic tasks in quantum information processing. We here propose a theoretical approach to realize arbitrary entangled state transfer through a qubit chain, which is a class of extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger models and accommodates multiple topological edge states separated from the bulk states. We show that an arbitrary entangled state, from $2$-qubit to $\mathcal{N}$-qubit, can be encoded in the corresponding edge states, and then adiabatically transferred from one end to the other of the chain. The dynamical phase differences resulting from the time evoluti…
Long-distance transfer of quantum states is an indispensable part of large-scale quantum information processing. We propose a novel scheme for the transfer of two-electron entangled states, from one edge of a quantum dot array to the other by coherent adiabatic passage. This protocol is mediated by pulsed tunneling barriers. In a second step, we seek for a speed up by shortcut to adiabaticity techniques. This significantly reduces the operation time and, thus, minimizes the impact of decoherence. For typical parameters of state-of-the-art solid state devices, the accelerated protocol has an op…
Coupled oscillators are among the simplest composite quantum systems in which the interplay of entanglement and interaction may be explored. We examine the effects of coupling on fluctuations of the coordinates and momenta of the oscillators in a single-excitation entangled state. We discover that coupling acts as a mechanism for noise transfer between one pair of coordinate and momentum and another. Through this noise transfer mechanism, the uncertainty product is lowered, on average, relatively to its non-coupled level for one pair of coordinate and momentum and it is enhanced for the other …
Inspired by the unique nonclassical character of two-photon interactions induced by entangled photons, we develop a new comprehensive Förster-type formulation for entangled two-photon resonance energy transfer (E2P-RET) mediated by inhomogeneous, dispersive and absorptive media with any space-dependent and frequency-dependent dielectric function and with any size of donor/acceptor. In our theoretical framework, two uncoupled particles are jointly excited by the temporally entangled field associated with two virtual photons that are produced by three-level radiative cascade decay in a donor par…
A scheme for generating continuous beams of atoms in non-classical or entangled quantum states is proposed and analyzed. For this the recently suggested transfer technique of quantum states from light fields to collective atomic excitation by Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage [M.Fleischhauer and M.D. Lukin, Phys.Rev.Lett. 84, 5094 (2000)] is employed and extended to matter waves.
We investigate the generation and transfer of entangled states between two coupled microtoroidal cavities considering two different types of couplings, namely i) via a bridge qubit and ii) via evanescent fields. The cavities support two counter-propagating whispering-gallery modes (WGMs) that may also interact with each other. We firstly show that it is possible to transfer, with high fidelity, a maximally entangled state between the two modes of the first cavity (cavity 1) to the two modes of the second cavity (cavity 2), independently of the type of coupling. Interesting differences, though,…
Different from the previous works on generating entangled states, this work is focused on how to transfer the prepared entangled states onto memory qubits for protecting them against decoherence. We here consider a physical system consisting of $n$ operation qubits and $2n$ memory qubits placed in a cavity or coupled to a resonator. A method is presented for transferring $n$-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled states from the operation qubits (i.e., information processing cells) onto the memory qubits (i.e., information memory elements with long decoherence time). The transferred…
Maximally entangled states play a central role in quantum information processing. Despite much progress throughout the years, robust protocols for manipulations of such states in many-level systems are still scarce. Here we present a control scheme that allow efficient manipulation of complete population transfer between two maximally entangled states. Exploiting the self-duality of $\mathrm{SU}\left(2\right)$, we present in this work a family of ${\mathrm{2}}^{\mathrm{2}N}$-level systems with couplings related to Pythagorean triples that make a complete population transfer from one state to a…
Quantum entanglement is a fundamental resource for quantum information processing and is widely used in quantum communication, quantum computation and quantum metrology. Early research on quantum entanglement mainly focus on qubit states, but in recent years, more and more research has begun to focus on high-dimensional entangled states. Compared with qubit entangled states, higher-dimensional entangled states have a larger information capacity and the potential to realize more complex quantum applications. In this Letter, we have experimentally prepared a special high-dimensional entangled st…
Quantum state transfer between microwave and optical frequencies is essential for connecting superconducting quantum circuits to coherent optical systems and extending microwave quantum networks over long distances. To build such a hybrid `quantum Internet,' an important experiment in the quantum regime is to entangle microwave and optical modes. Based on the model of a generic cavity electro-optomechanical system, we present a heralded scheme to generate entangled microwave--optical photon pairs, which can bypass the efficiency threshold for quantum channel capacity in direct transfer protoco…
The transfer of data is a fundamental task in information systems. Microprocessors contain dedicated data buses that transmit bits across different locations and implement sophisticated routing protocols. Transferring quantum information with high fidelity is a challenging task, due to the intrinsic fragility of quantum states. We report on the implementation of the perfect state transfer protocol applied to a photonic qubit entangled with another qubit at a different location. On a single device we perform three routing procedures on entangled states with an average fidelity of 97.1%. Our pro…
Motivated by recent experimental study on coherent dynamics transfer in three interacting atoms or electron spins \cite{Barredo:2015,Rosenfeld:2018}, here we study entanglement entropy transfer in three interacting qubits. We analytically calculate time evolutions of wave function, density matrix and entanglement of the system. We find that initially entangled two qubits may alternatively transfer their entanglement entropy to other two qubit pairs. So that dynamical evolution of three interacting qubits may produce a genuine three-partite entangled state through entanglement entropy transfers…
Detailed analysis of behavior of spin-entangled particle pairs under arbitrary rotations in their Hilbert space has been performed. It shows a rich range of varieties (faces) of entanglement in different bases. Analytic criteria are obtained for the respective faces of an entangled state. The corresponding conditions generally depend on both the state itself and the chosen basis. The most important result is revealing a deep analogy between a spin-entangled electronic qubit pair and momentum-entangled photon pair. Both cases exhibit coherence transfer from individual particles to nonlocal stat…
Analysis of the recently proposed thought experiment with the path entangled photon pairs is extended here to spin entangled electron pairs. The detailed comparison of the two cases showed the range of distinctions and similarities in their monitoring. The general results contradict the Concurrency Rule stating that intimately linked characteristics of a simple system must change concurrently under changing conditions. Instead, the analysis showed that the systems coherence, while changing continuously with entanglement strength on the global scale, remains zero on the local level. This effect…
Realising a global quantum network requires combining individual strengths of different quantum systems to perform universal tasks, notably using flying and stationary qubits. However, transferring coherently quantum information between different systems is challenging as they usually feature different properties, notably in terms of operation wavelength and wavepacket. To circumvent this problem for quantum photonics systems, we demonstrate a polarisation-preserving quantum frequency conversion device in which telecom wavelength photons are converted to the near infrared, at which a variety o…
