Hand-held light field cameras suffer from low spatial resolution due to the inherent spatio-angular tradeoff. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the spatial resolution of light field images with the aid of the Texture Transformer Network (TTSR). The proposed method consists of three modules: the first module produces an all-in focus high-resolution perspective image which serves as a reference image for the second module, i.e. TTSR, which in turn produces a high-resolution light field. The last module refines the spatial resolution by imposing a light field prior. The results demonstrate around 4 dB to 6 dB PSNR gain over a bicubically resized light field image

We study on image super-resolution (SR), which aims to recover realistic textures from a low-resolution (LR) image. Recent progress has been made by taking high-resolution images as references (Ref), so that relevant textures can be transferred to LR images. However, existing SR approaches neglect to use attention mechanisms to transfer high-resolution (HR) textures from Ref images, which limits these approaches in challenging cases. In this paper, we propose a novel Texture Transformer Network for Image Super-Resolution (TTSR), in which the LR and Ref images are formulated as queries and keys…
Reference-based image super-resolution (RefSR) aims to exploit auxiliary reference (Ref) images to super-resolve low-resolution (LR) images. Recently, RefSR has been attracting great attention as it provides an alternative way to surpass single image SR. However, addressing the RefSR problem has two critical challenges: (i) It is difficult to match the correspondence between LR and Ref images when they are significantly different; (ii) How to transfer the relevant texture from Ref images to compensate the details for LR images is very challenging. To address these issues of RefSR, this paper p…
State of the art magnetic resonance (MR) image super-resolution methods (ISR) using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) leverage limited contextual information due to the limited spatial coverage of CNNs. Vision transformers (ViT) learn better global context that is helpful in generating superior quality HR images. We combine local information of CNNs and global information from ViTs for image super resolution and output super resolved images that have superior quality than those produced by state of the art methods. We include extra constraints through multiple novel loss functions that pres…

Video Super-Resolution (VSR) aims to restore high-resolution (HR) videos from low-resolution (LR) videos. Existing VSR techniques usually recover HR frames by extracting pertinent textures from nearby frames with known degradation processes. Despite significant progress, grand challenges are remained to effectively extract and transmit high-quality textures from high-degraded low-quality sequences, such as blur, additive noises, and compression artifacts. In this work, a novel Frequency-Transformer (FTVSR) is proposed for handling low-quality videos that carry out self-attention in a combined …

Learned image compression methods have exhibited superior rate-distortion performance than classical image compression standards. Most existing learned image compression models are based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Despite great contributions, a main drawback of CNN based model is that its structure is not designed for capturing local redundancy, especially the non-repetitive textures, which severely affects the reconstruction quality. Therefore, how to make full use of both global structure and local texture becomes the core problem for learning-based image compression. Inspired …

Compressed video super-resolution (VSR) aims to restore high-resolution frames from compressed low-resolution counterparts. Most recent VSR approaches often enhance an input frame by borrowing relevant textures from neighboring video frames. Although some progress has been made, there are grand challenges to effectively extract and transfer high-quality textures from compressed videos where most frames are usually highly degraded. In this paper, we propose a novel Frequency-Transformer for compressed video super-resolution (FTVSR) that conducts self-attention over a joint space-time-frequency …

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a valuable clinical diagnostic modality for spine pathologies with excellent characterization for infection, tumor, degenerations, fractures and herniations. However in surgery, image-guided spinal procedures continue to rely on CT and fluoroscopy, as MRI slice resolutions are typically insufficient. Building upon state-of-the-art single image super-resolution, we propose a reference-based, unpaired multi-contrast texture-transfer strategy for deep learning based in-plane and across-plane MRI super-resolution. We use the scattering transform to relate the te…

Hallucinating high frequency image details in single image super-resolution is a challenging task. Traditional super-resolution methods tend to produce oversmoothed output images due to the ambiguity in mapping between low and high resolution patches. We build on recent success in deep learning based texture synthesis and show that this rich feature space can facilitate successful transfer and synthesis of high frequency image details to improve the visual quality of super-resolution results on a wide variety of natural textures and images.

We present a super-resolution method capable of creating a high-resolution texture map for a virtual 3D object from a set of lower-resolution images of that object. Our architecture unifies the concepts of (i) multi-view super-resolution based on the redundancy of overlapping views and (ii) single-view super-resolution based on a learned prior of high-resolution (HR) image structure. The principle of multi-view super-resolution is to invert the image formation process and recover the latent HR texture from multiple lower-resolution projections. We map that inverse problem into a block of suita…

While implicit generative models such as GANs have shown impressive results in high quality image reconstruction and manipulation using a combination of various losses, we consider a simpler approach leading to surprisingly strong results. We show that texture loss alone allows the generation of perceptually high quality images. We provide a better understanding of texture constraining mechanism and develop a novel semantically guided texture constraining method for further improvement. Using a recently developed perceptual metric employing "deep features" and termed LPIPS, the method obtains …

With the recent advancement in deep learning, we have witnessed a great progress in single image super-resolution. However, due to the significant information loss of the image downscaling process, it has become extremely challenging to further advance the state-of-the-art, especially for large upscaling factors. This paper explores a new research direction in super resolution, called reference-conditioned super-resolution, in which a reference image containing desired high-resolution texture details is provided besides the low-resolution image. We focus on transferring the high-resolution tex…

Deep Learning (DL) based methods for magnetic resonance (MR) image reconstruction have been shown to produce superior performance in recent years. However, these methods either only leverage under-sampled data or require a paired fully-sampled auxiliary modality to perform multi-modal reconstruction. Consequently, existing approaches neglect to explore attention mechanisms that can transfer textures from reference fully-sampled data to under-sampled data within a single modality, which limits these approaches in challenging cases. In this paper, we propose a novel Texture Transformer Module (T…

In addition, we also propose a mask-fusion strategy to combine the advantages of the RGB-based and texture-flow-based models. We further introduce a part-style loss to help reconstruct high-fidelity colors without introducing unpleasant artifacts. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of t…

However, due to the complexity and high aesthetic requirements of medical imaging, image super-resolution reconstruction remains a difficult challenge. In this paper, we offer a deep learning-based strategy for reconstructing medical images from low resolutions utilizing Transformer and Generative Adversarial Networks (T-GAN). Image completion has made tremendous progress with convolutional neural networks (CNNs), because of their powerful texture modeling capacity. However, due to some inherent properties (e.g., local inductive prior, spatial-invariant kernels), CNNs do not perform well in understanding global structures or naturally support pluralistic completion. Recently, transformers demonstrate their power in modeling the long-term relationship and generating diverse results, but their computation complexity is quadratic to input length, thus hampering the application in processing high-resolution images. This…
Face forgery by deepfake is widely spread over the internet and this raises severe societal concerns. In this paper, we propose a novel video transformer with incremental learning for detecting deepfake videos. To better align the input face images, we use a 3D face reconstruction method to generate UV texture from a single input face image. The aligned face image can also provide pose, eyes blink and mouth movement information that cannot be perceived in the UV texture image, so we use both face images and their UV texture maps to extract the image features. We present an incremental learning…

Image inpainting has achieved remarkable progress and inspired abundant methods, where the critical bottleneck is identified as how to fulfill the high-frequency structure and low-frequency texture information on the masked regions with semantics. To this end, deep models exhibit powerful superiority to capture them, yet constrained on the local spatial regions. In this paper, we delve globally into texture and structure information to well capture the semantics for image inpainting. As opposed to the existing arts trapped on the independent local patches, the texture information of each patch…

Methods by k-space undersampling and deep learning based reconstruction have been popularised to accelerate the scanning process. This work focuses on investigating how powerful transformers are for fast MRI by exploiting and comparing different novel network architectures. In particular, a generative adversarial network (GAN) based Swin transformer (ST-GAN) was introduced for the fast MRI reconstruction. T…

We first evaluate state-of-the-art models on diverse public datasets, which have never been seen during the network training. Next, we investigate the effects of texture-biased and shape-biased re…

Video inpainting aims to fill the given spatiotemporal holes with realistic appearance but is still a challenging task even with prosperous deep learning approaches. Recent works introduce the promising Transformer architecture into deep video inpainting and achieve better performance. However, it still suffers from synthesizing blurry texture as well as huge computational cost. Towards this end, we propose a novel Decoupled Spatial-Temporal Transformer (DSTT) for improving video inpainting with exceptional efficiency. We tackle the problem of texture inpainting where the input images are textures with missing values along with masks that indicate the zones that should be generated. Many works have been done in image inpainting with the aim to achieve global and local consistency. But these works still suffer from limitations when dealing with textures. In fact, the local information in the image to be completed needs to be used in order to achieve local continuities and visually realistic texture inpainting. For this, we propose a new segmentor discriminator that performs a patch-wise real/fake classificati…
