We propose novel goodness-of-fit tests for the Weibull distribution with unknown parameters. These tests are based on an alternative characterizing representation of the Laplace transform related to the density approach in the context of Stein's method. Asymptotic theory of the tests is derived, including the limit null distribution, the behaviour under contiguous alternatives, the validity of the parametric bootstrap procedure, and consistency of the tests against a large class of alternatives. A Monte Carlo simulation study shows the competitiveness of the new procedure. Finally, the procedure is applied to real data examples taken from the materials science.
In this paper, we address the problem of testing goodness-of-fit for discrete distributions, where we focus on the geometric distribution. We define new likelihood-based goodness-of-fit tests using the beta-geometric distribution and the type I discrete Weibull distribution as alternative distributions. The tests are compared in a simulation study, where also the classical goodness-of-fit tests are considered for comparison. Throughout the paper we consider conditional testing given a minimal sufficient statistic under the null hypothesis, which enables the calculation of exact p-values. For t…
We introduce a new characterization of the Cauchy distribution and propose a class of goodness-of-fit tests to the Cauchy family. The limit distribution is derived in a Hilbert space framework under the null hypothesis and under fixed alternatives. The new tests are consistent against a large class of alternatives. A comparative Monte Carlo simulation study shows that the test is competitive to the state of the art procedures, and we apply the tests to log-returns of cryptocurrencies.
We consider goodness-of-fit tests for uniformity of a multinomial distribution by means of tests based on a class of symmetric statistics, defined as the sum of some function of cell-frequencies. We are dealing with an asymptotic regime, where the number of cells grows with the sample size. Most attention is focused on the class of power divergence statistics. The aim of this article is to study the intermediate asymptotic relative efficiency of two tests, where the powers of the tests are asymptotically non-degenerate and the sequences of alternatives converge to the hypothesis, but not too f…
The object of study is the problem of testing for uniformity of the multinomial distribution. We consider tests based on symmetric statistics, defined as the sum of some function of cell-frequencies. Mainly, attention is focused on the class of power divergence statistics, in particular, on the chi-square and log-likelihood ratio statistics. The main issue of the article is to study the asymptotic properties of tests at the concept of an intermediate setting in terms of so called -intermediate asymptotic efficiency due to Ivchenko and Mirakhmedov (1995), when the asymptotic power of tests are …

We propose two nonparametric statistical tests of goodness of fit for conditional distributions: given a conditional probability density function $p(y|x)$ and a joint sample, decide whether the sample is drawn from $p(y|x)r_x(x)$ for some density $r_x$. Our tests, formulated with a Stein operator, can be applied to any differentiable conditional density model, and require no knowledge of the normalizing constant. We show that 1) our tests are consistent against any fixed alternative conditional model; 2) the statistics can be estimated easily, requiring no density estimation as an intermediate…
Finding anonymization mechanisms to protect personal data is at the heart of recent machine learning research. Here, we consider the consequences of local differential privacy constraints on goodness-of-fit testing, i.e. the statistical problem assessing whether sample points are generated from a fixed density $f_0$, or not. The observations are kept hidden and replaced by a stochastic transformation satisfying the local differential privacy constraint. In this setting, we propose a testing procedure which is based on an estimation of the quadratic distance between the density $f$ of the unobs…
Taking the goodness of fit test (Chi test) as an example, this paper attempts to calculate the Bayesian factor BF10 of n-fold Bernoulli test by the Excel software (using JASP software as the evidence). The results showed that in the range of 0.15-0.55 (the rate of samples which are all "true"), the calculated results of Excel were more accurate, and the differences between the two (Excel and JASP) were not statistically significant (P>0.3).
In many applications, we encounter data on Riemannian manifolds such as torus and rotation groups. Standard statistical procedures for multivariate data are not applicable to such data. In this study, we develop goodness-of-fit testing and interpretable model criticism methods for general distributions on Riemannian manifolds, including those with an intractable normalization constant. The proposed methods are based on extensions of kernel Stein discrepancy, which are derived from Stein operators on Riemannian manifolds. We discuss the connections between the proposed tests with existing ones …
