Title is slightly changed. We've added a subsection in the Introduction to show the application of our results to a realistic oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction system. Comments are welcome!
Reaction-diffusion systems with mass dissipation are known to possess blow-up solutions in high dimensions when the nonlinearities have super quadratic growth rates. In dimension one, it has been shown recently that one can have global existence of bounded solutions if nonlinearities are at most cubic. For the cubic intermediate sum condition, i.e. nonlinearities might have arbitrarily high growth rates, an additional entropy inequality had to be imposed. In this article, we remove this extra entropy assumption completely and obtain global boundedness for reaction-diffusion systems with cubic intermediate sum condition. The novel idea is to show a non-concentration phenomenon for mass dissipating systems, that is the mass dissipation implies a dissipation in a Morrey space $\mathsf{M}^{1,δ}(Ω)$ for some $δ>0$. As far as we are concerned, it is the first time such a bound is derived for mass dissipating reaction-diffusion systems. The results are then applied to obtain global existence and boundedness of solutions to an oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky system, which satisfies cubic intermediate sum condition but does not fulfill the entropy assumption. Extensions include global existence mass controlled systems with slightly-super cubic intermediate sum condition.
In this paper we establish some results concerning the existence, regularity and concentration phenomenon of nontrivial solitary waves for a Generalized Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (GKP) equation in $\mathbb{R}^2.$ Variational methods are used to get an existence result and to study the concentration phenomenon, while the regularity is more delicate because we are leading with functions in an anisotropic Sobolev space.
We observe a link between the window size of mass concentration and the rate of explosion of the Strichartz norm by revisiting Bourgain's mass concentration for the L^2-critical nonlinear Schrodinger equations.
A nonlinear profile decomposition is established for solutions of supercritical generalized Korteweg-de Vries equations. As a consequence, we obtain a concentration result for finite time blow-up solutions that are of Type II.
In this paper, we'll prove a L^2-concentration result of Zakharov system in space dimension two, with radial initial data (u_0,n_0,n_1)\in H^s\times L^2\times H^{-1} ({16/17}<s<1), when blow up of the solution happens by I-method. In additional to that we find a blow up character of this system. Furthermore, we improve the global existence result of Bourgain's to above spaces.
We consider the $L^{2}$-critical quintic focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on ${\bf R}$. It is well known that $H^{1}$ solutions of the aforementioned equation blow up in finite time. In higher dimensions, for $H^{1}$ spherically symmetric blow-up solutions of the $L^{2}$-critical focusing NLS, there is a minimal amount of concentration of the $L^{2}$-norm (the mass of the ground state) at the origin. In this paper we prove the existence of a similar phenomenon for the one-dimensional case and rougher initial data, $(u_{0}\in H^{s}, s<1)$, without any additional assumption.
This paper is devoted to the analysis of the classical Keller-Segel system over $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 3$. We describe as much as possible the dynamics of the system characterized by various criteria, both in the parabolic-elliptic case and in the fully parabolic case. The main results when dealing with the parabolic-elliptic case are: local existence without smallness assumption on the initial density, global existence under an improved smallness condition and comparison of blow-up criteria. A new concentration phenomenon criteria for the fully parabolic case is also given. The analysis is co…
We study a variational problem for the first Schrodinger eigenvalue on closed Riemannian surfaces. More precisely, we explore concentration-compactness properties of sequences formed by its extremal potentials.
In this paper, we consider concentration phenomenon of semiclassical states to the following $2M$-component reaction-diffusion system in $\R \times \R^N$, \begin{align*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} \partial_t u &=\eps^2 Δ_x u-u-V(x)v + \partial_v H(u, v),\\ \partial_t v &=-\eps^2 Δ_x v+v + V(x)u - \partial_u H(u, v), \end{aligned} \right. \end{align*} where $M \geq 1$, $N \geq 1$, $\eps>0$ is a small parameter, $V \in C^1(\R^N, \, \R)$, $H \in C^1(\R^M \times \R^M, \, \R)$ and $(u, v): \R \times \R^N \to \R^M \times \R^M$. It is proved that there exist semiclassical states concentrating around the…
The concentration phenomenon of the kinetic energy, $ρ|\mathbf{u}|^2$, associated to isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations, is addressed in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $n=2,3$ and the adiabatic constant $γ\in[1,\frac{n}{2}]$. Except a space-time set with Hausdorff dimension less than or equal to $Γ(n)+1$ with $$ Γ(n)=\max\left\{γ(n), n-\frac{nγ}{γ(n)+1}\right\}\quad\textrm{and}\quadγ(n)=\frac{n(n-1)-nγ}{n-γ},$$ no concentration phenomenon occurs.
We consider the mass concentration phenomenon for the $L^2$-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations of higher orders. We show that any solution $u$ to $iu_{t} + (-Δ)^{\fracα2} u =\pm |u|^\frac{2α}{d}u$, $u(0,\cdot)\in L^2$ for $α>2$, which blows up in a finite time, satisfies a mass concentration phenomenon near the blow-up time. We verify that as $α$ increases, the size of region capturing a mass concentration gets wider due to the stronger dispersive effect.
For a domain $Ω\subset\dR^N$ we consider the equation $ -Δu + V(x)u = Q_n(x)\abs{u}^{p-2}u$ with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions and $p\in(2,2^*)$. Here $V\ge 0$ and $Q_n$ are bounded functions that are positive in a region contained in $Ω$ and negative outside, and such that the sets $\{Q_n>0\}$ shrink to a point $x_0\inΩ$ as $n\to\infty$. We show that if $u_n$ is a nontrivial solution corresponding to $Q_n$, then the sequence $(u_n)$ concentrates at $x_0$ with respect to the $H^1$ and certain $L^q$-norms. We also show that if the sets $\{Q_n>0\}$ shrink to two points and $u_n$ are ground …
Physical experiments and numerical simulations have observed a remarkable stabilizing phenomenon: a background magnetic field stabilizes and damps electrically conducting fluids. This paper intends to establish this phenomenon as a mathematically rigorous fact on a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) system with anisotropic dissipation in $\mathbb R^3$. The velocity equation in this system is the 3D Navier-Stokes equation with dissipation only in the $x_1$-direction while the magnetic field obeys the induction equation with magnetic diffusion in two horizontal directions. We establish that any perturbat…
We study the concentration phenomenon for solutions of the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which is nonlocal. We mainly use the Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method. Precisely, consider the nonlinear equation \begin{equation}\label{e:abstract} (-\varepsilon^2Δ)^sv+Vv-|v|^αv=0\quad\mbox{in}\quad\mathbf R^n, \end{equation} where $n =1, 2, 3$, $\max\{\frac{1}{2}, \frac{n}{4}\}< s < 1$, $1 \leq α< α_*(s,n)$, $V\in C^3_{b}(\mathbf{R}^n)$. Here the exponent $α_*(s,n)=\frac{4s}{n-2s}$ for $0 < s < \frac{n}{2}$ and $α_*(s,n)=\infty$ for $s \geq\frac{n}{2}$. Then for each non-degenerate critica…
In this paper, we study the existence and the concentration behavior of minimizers for $i_V(c)=\inf\limits_{u\in S_c}I_V(u)$, here $S_c=\{u\in H^1(\R^N)|~\int_{\R^N}V(x)|u|^2<+\infty,~|u|_2=c>0\}$ and $$I_V(u)=\frac{1}{2}\ds\int_{\R^N}(a|\nabla u|^2+V(x)|u|^2)+\frac{b}{4}\left(\ds\int_{\R^N}|\nabla u|^2\right)^2-\frac{1}{p}\ds\int_{\R^N}|u|^{p},$$ where $N=1,2,3$ and $a,b>0$ are constants. By the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality, we get the sharp existence of global constraint minimizers for $2<p<2^*$ when $V(x)\geq0$, $V(x)\in L^{\infty}_{loc}(\R^N)$ and $\lim\limits_{|x|\rightarrow+\infty}V(x)…
We consider absorbing chemical reactions in a fluid flow modeled by the coupled advection-reaction-diffusion equations. In these systems, the interplay between chemical diffusion and fluid transportation causes the enhanced dissipation phenomenon. We show that the enhanced dissipation time scale, together with the reaction coupling strength, determines the characteristic time scale of the reaction.
We consider the drift-diffusion equation $u_t-εΔu + \nabla \cdot(u\nabla K^*u)=0$ in the whole space with global-in-time solutions bounded in all Sobolev spaces; for simplicity, we restrict ourselves to the model case $K(x)=-|x|$. We quantify the mass concentration phenomenon, a genuinely nonlinear effect, for radially symmetric solutions of this equation for small diffusivity $ε$ studied in our previous paper [3], obtaining optimal sharp upper and lower bounds for Sobolev norms.
In this paper we consider the 3-dimensional incompressible Oldroyd-B model. First, we establish two results of the global existence for different kinds of the coupling coefficient $k$. Then, we prove that the solutions $(u,τ)$ are globally steady when $k^m\rightarrow k>0$, though $(u,τ)$ corresponds to different decays for different kinds of $k>0~$. Finally, we show that the energy of $u(t,x)$ will have a jump when $k\rightarrow 0$ in large time, which implies a non-steady phenomenon. In a word, we find an interesting physical phenomenon of \eqref{1} such that smaller coupling coefficient $k$ …
We are interested in the long time behaviour of the positive solutions of the Cauchy problem involving the following integro-differential equation $$\partial\_t u(t, x) = \left(a(x) -- \int\_Ω k(x, y)u(t, y) dy\right ) u(t, x) + \int\_Ω m(x, y)[u(t, y) -- u(t, x)] dy\quad \text{ for}\quad (t, x) $\in$ \mathbb{R}\_{+} \times Ω,$$ together with the initial condition $u(0, \cdot) = u0 \quad \text{ in }\quad Ω$. Such a problem is used in population dynamics models to capture the evolution of a clonal population structured with respect to a phenotypic trait. In this context, the function u represen…
A dyadic shell model for the Navier-Stokes equations is studied in the context of turbulence. The model is an infinite nonlinearly coupled system of ODEs. It is proved that the unique fixed point is a global attractor, which converges to the global attractor of the inviscid system as viscosity goes to zero. This implies that the average dissipation rate for the viscous system converges to the anomalous dissipation rate for the inviscid system (which is positive) as viscosity goes to zero. This phenomenon is called the dissipation anomaly predicted by Kolmogorov's theory for the actual Navier-S…
We let $Ω$ be a smooth bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^4$ and a sequence of fonctions $(V_k)_{k\in\mathbb{N}}\in C^0(Ω)$ such that $\lim_{k\to +\infty}V_k=1$ in $C^0_{loc}(Ω)$. We consider a sequence of functions $(u_k)_{k\in\mathbb{N}}\in C^4(Ω)$ such that $$Δ^2 u_k=V_k e^{4u_k}$$ in $Ω$ for all $k\in\mathbb{N}$. We address in this paper the question of the asymptotic behaviour of the $(u_k)'s$ when $k\to +\infty$. The corresponding problem in dimension 2 was considered by Brézis-Merle and Li-Shafrir (among others), where a blow-up phenomenon was described and where a quantization of this blow-…
We characterize the dynamics of the finite time blow up solutions with minimal mass for the focusing mass critical Hartree equation with $H^1(\mathbb{R}^4)$ data and $L^2(\mathbb{R}^4)$ data, where we make use of the refined Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality of convolution type and the profile decomposition. Moreover, we also analyze the mass concentration phenomenon of such blow up solutions.
We study the long time dynamics of the Schrödinger equation on Zoll manifolds. We establish criteria under which the solutions of the Schrödinger equation can or cannot concentrate on a given closed geodesic. As an application, we derive some results on the set of semiclassical measures for eigenfunctions of Schrödinger operators: we prove that adding a potential to the Laplacian on the sphere results on the existence of geodesics $γ$ such that $δ_γ$ cannot be obtained as a semiclassical measure for some sequence of eigenfunctions. We also show that the same phenomenon occurs for the free Lapl…
We prove local and global energy decay for the wave equation in a wave guide with damping at infinity. More precisely, the absorption index is assumed to converge slowly to a positive constant, and we obtain the diffusive phenomenon typical for the contribution of low frequencies when the damping is effective at infinity. On the other hand, the usual Geometric Control Condition is not necessarily satisfied so we may have a loss of regularity for the contribution of high frequencies. Since our results are new even in the Euclidean space, we also state a similar result in this case.
