We prove that the weak-$L^{p}$ norms, and in fact the sparse $(p,1)$-norms, of the Carleson maximal partial Fourier sum operator are $\lesssim (p-1)^{-1}$ as $p\to 1^+$. This is an improvement on the Carleson-Hunt theorem, where the same upper bound on the growth order is obtained for the restricted weak-$L^p$ type norm, and which was the strongest quantitative bound prior to our result. Furthermore, our sparse $(p,1)$-norms bound imply new and stronger results at the endpoint $p=1$. In particular, we obtain that the Fourier series of functions from the weighted Arias de Reyna space $ QA_{\infty}(w) $, which contains the weighted Antonov space $L\log L\log\log\log L(\mathbb T; w)$, converge almost everywhere whenever $w\in A_1$. This is an extension of the results of Antonov and Arias De Reyna, where $w$ must be Lebesgue measure.
The backbone of our treatment is a new, sharply quantified near-$L^1$ Carleson embedding theorem for the modulation-invariant wave packet transform. The proof of the Carleson embedding relies on a newly developed smooth multi-frequency decomposition which, near the endpoint $p=1$, outperforms the abstract Hilbert space approach of past works, including the seminal one by Nazarov, Oberlin and Thiele. As a further example of application, we obtain a quantified version of the family of sparse bounds for the bilinear Hilbert transforms due to Culiuc, Ou and the first author.
We prove $L^p$-boundedness of variational Carleson operators for functions valued in intermediate UMD spaces. This provides quantitative information on the rate of convergence of partial Fourier integrals of vector-valued functions. Our proof relies on bounds on wave packet embeddings into outer Lebesgue spaces on the time-frequency-scale space $\mathbb{R}^3_+$, which are the focus of this paper.
We prove generalized Carleson embeddings for the continuous wave packet transform from $L^p(\mathbb{R},w)$ into an outer $L^p$ space for $2< p < \infty$ and weight $w \in A_{p/2}$. This work is a weighted extension of the corresponding Lebesgue result in arXiv:1309.0945v3 and generalizes a similar result in arXiv:1207.1150. The proof in this article relies on $L^2$ restriction estimates for the wave packet transform which are geometric and may be of independent interest.
We prove a weak-$L^p$ bound for the Walsh-Carleson operator for $p $ near 1, improving on a theorem of Sjolin. We relate our result to the conjectures that the Walsh-Fourier and Fourier series of a function $f\in L\log L(\mathbb T)$ converge for almost every $x \in \mathbb T$.
We prove that the generalized Carleson operator with polynomial phase function of degree two is of weak type (2,2). For this, we introduce a new approach to the time-frequency analysis of the quadratic phase.
The theory of Carleson measures, stopping time arguments, and atomic decompositions has been well-established in harmonic analysis. More recent is the theory of phase space analysis from the point of view of wave packets on tiles, tree selection algorithms, and tree size estimates. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that the two theories are in fact closely related, by taking existing results and reproving them in a unified setting. In particular we give a dyadic version of extrapolation for Carleson measures, with two separate proofs, as well as a two-sided local dyadic $T(b)$ theore…
The article arXiv:1309.0945 by Do and Thiele develops a theory of Carleson embeddings in outer $L^p$ spaces for the wave packet transform of functions in $ L^p(\mathbb R)$, in the $2\leq p\leq \infty$ range referred to as local $L^2$. In this article, we formulate a suitable extension of this theory to exponents $1<p<2$, answering a question posed in arXiv:1309.0945. The proof of our main embedding theorem involves a refined multi-frequency Calderón-Zygmund decomposition. We apply our embedding theorem to recover the full known range of $L^p$ estimates for the bilinear Hilbert transforms witho…
We prove weak $(2,2)$ bounds for maximally modulated anisotropically homogeneous smooth multipliers on $\mathbb{R}^n$. These can be understood as generalizing the classical one-dimensional Carleson operator. For the proof we extend the time-frequency method by Lacey and Thiele to the anistropic setting. We also discuss a related open problem concerning Carleson operators along monomial curves.
We consider a basic $d$-adic model for the scattering transform on the line. We prove $L^2$ bounds for this scattering transform and a weak $L^2$ bound for a Carleson type maximal operator. The latter implies boundedness of $d$-adic models of generalized eigenfunctions of Dirac type operators with potential in $L^2(R)$. We show that this result cannot be obtained by estimating the terms in the natural multilinear expansion of the scattering transform.
In this paper, we introduce the Carleson measure spaces with variable exponents $CMO^{p(\cdot)}$. By using discrete Littlewood$-$Paley$-$Stein analysis as well as Frazier and Jawerth's $φ-$transform in the variable exponent settings, we show that the dual space of the variable Hardy space $H^{p(\cdot)}$ is $CMO^{p(\cdot)}$. As applications, we obtain that Carleson measure spaces with variable exponents $CMO^{p(\cdot)}$, Campanato space with variable exponent $\mathfrak{L}_{q,p(\cdot),d}$ and Hölder-Zygmund spaces with variable exponents $\mathcal {\dot{H}}_d^{p(\cdot)}$ coincide as sets and th…
In the dyadic case the union of the Reverse Hölder classes, $RH_p^d$ is strictly larger than the union of the Muckenhoupt classes $ A_p^d$. We introduce the $RH_1^d$ condition as a limiting case of the $RH_p^d$ inequalities as $p$ tends to 1 and show the sharp bound on $RH_1^d$ constant of the weight $w$ in terms of its $A_\infty^d$ constant. We also take a look at the summation conditions of the Buckley type for the dyadic Reverse Hölder and Muckenhoupt weights and deduce them from an intrinsic lemma which gives a summation representation of the bumped average of a weight. Our lemmata also al…
We provide a Fefferman-Stein type weighted inequality for maximally modulated Calderón-Zygmund operators that satisfy \textit{a priori} weak type unweighted estimates. This inequality corresponds to a maximally modulated version of a result of Pérez. Applying it to the Hilbert transform we obtain the corresponding Fefferman-Stein inequality for the Carleson operator $\mathcal{C}$, that is $\mathcal{C}: L^p(M^{\lfloor p \rfloor +1}w) \to L^p(w)$ for any $1<p<\infty$ and any weight function $w$, with bound independent of $w$. We also provide a maximal-multiplier weighted theorem, a vector-valued…
Let $Ω$ be an open set with Ahlfors-David regular boundary satisfying the corkscrew condition. When $Ω$ is connected in some quantitative form one can establish that for any real elliptic operator with bounded coefficients, the quantitative absolute continuity of elliptic measures is equivalent to the fact that all bounded null solutions satisfy Carleson measure estimates. In turn, in the same setting these equivalent properties are stable under Fefferman-Kenig-Pipher perturbations. However, without connectivity, there is no Fefferman-Kenig-Pipher perturbation result available. In this paper, …
Operators such as Carleson operator are known to be bounded on $L^p$ for all $1<p<\infty$, but not from $L^1$ to weak-$L^1$ and from $H^p$ to $L^p$ for each $0<p\leq 1$, the object of this article is to give a estimate for all $0<p<\infty$. For the weights $w$ satisfying the doubling condition of order $q$ with $0<q<p$ and the reverse Hölder condition, by using some new functions spaces, we prove that: $\bullet$ some sublinear operators are bounded from some subspaces of $L^p_w$ to $L^p_w$ and to themselves for all $0<p< \infty$; in particular, these imply the endpoint estimates from $H^p_w$ t…
Lacey and Thiele have recently obtained a new proof of Carleson's theorem on almost everywhere convergence of Fourier series. This paper is a generalization of their techniques (known broadly as time-frequency analysis) to higher dimensions. In particular, a weak-type (2,2) estimate is derived for a maximal dyadic sum operator on R^n, n > 1. As an application one obtains a new proof of Sjölin's theorem on weak L^2 estimates for the maximal conjugated Calderón-Zygmund operator on R^n.

We provide a near-complete classification of the Lorentz spaces $Λ_φ$ for which the sequence $\{S_{n}\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ of partial Fourier sums is almost everywhere convergent along lacunary subsequences. Moreover, under mild assumptions on the fundamental function $φ$, we identify $Λ_φ:= L\log\log L\log\log\log\log L$ as the \emph{largest} Lorentz space on which the lacunary Carleson operator is bounded as a map to $L^{1,\infty}$. In particular, we disprove a conjecture stated by Konyagin in his 2006 ICM address. Our proof relies on a newly introduced concept of a "Cantor Multi-tower Embed…
We show that an Ahlfors $d$-regular set $E$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ is uniformly rectifiable if the set of pairs $(x,r)\in E\times (0,\infty)$ for which there exists $y \in B(x,r)$ and $0<t<r$ satisfying $\mathscr{H}^{d}_{\infty}(E\cap B(y,t))<(2t)^{d}-\varepsilon(2r)^d$ is a Carleson set for every $\varepsilon>0$. To prove this, we generalize a result of Schul by proving, if $X$ is a $C$-doubling metric space, $\varepsilon,ρ\in (0,1)$, $A>1$, and $X_{n}$ is a sequence of maximal $2^{-n}$-separated sets in $X$, and $\mathscr{B}=\{B(x,2^{-n}):x\in X_{n},n\in \mathbb{N}\}$, then \[ \sum \left\{r_{B}…
Let b be a function on the plane. Let H_j, j=1,2, be the Hilbert transform acting on the j-th coordinate on the plane. We show that the operator norm of the double commutator [[ M_b, H_1], H_2] is equivalent to the Chang-Fefferman BMO norm of b. Here, M_b denotes the operator which is multiplication by b. This result extends a well known theorem of Nehari on weak factorization in the Hardy space H^1 to the same theorem on H^1 of a product domain. The product setting is more delicate because of the presence of a two parameter family of dilations. The method of proof depends upon (a) A dyadic de…
