On large partial ovoids of symplectic and Hermitian polar spaces

In this paper we provide constructive lower bounds on the sizes of the largest partial ovoids of the symplectic polar spaces ${\cal W}(3, q)$, $q$ odd square, $q \not\equiv 0 \pmod{3}$, ${\cal W}(5, q)$ and of the Hermitian polar spaces ${\cal H}(4, q^2)$, $q$ even or $q$ odd square, $q \not\equiv 0 \pmod{3}$, ${\cal H}(6, q^2)$, ${\cal H}(8, q^2)$.

Weighted Intriguing Sets in Finite Polar Spaces

We provide new proofs for the non-existence of ovoids in hyperbolic spaces of rank at least four in even characteristic, and for the Hermitian polar space $\mathsf{H}(5, 4)$. We also improve the results of A. Klein on the non-existence of ovoids of Hermitian spaces and hyperbolic quadrics.

The $m$-ovoids of ${\cal W}(5,2)$

In this paper we are concerned with $m$-ovoids of the symplectic polar space ${\cal W}(2n+1, q)$, $q$ even. In particular we show the existence of an elliptic quadric of ${\rm PG}(2n+1, q)$ not polarizing to ${\cal W}(2n+1, q)$ forming a $\left(\frac{q^n-1}{q-1}\right)$-ovoid of ${\cal W}(2n+1, q)$. A further class of $(q+1)$-ovoids of ${\cal W}(5, q)$ is exhibited. It arises by glueing together two orbits of a subgroup of ${\rm PSp}(6, q)$ isomorphic to ${\rm PSL}(2, q^2)$. DW(6,n), n>2, has no ovoid: A single proof

An ovoid of a dual polar space is a point set meeting every line in exactly one point. For the symplectic dual polar space DW(6,q), Cooperstein and Pasini have recently proved no ovoid exists if q is odd. Earlier, Shult has proved the same for even q. In this paper, we prove the non-existence of ovoids of DW(6,q) independently from the parity of q.

New Bounds for Partial Spreads of $H(2d-1, q^2)$ and Partial Ovoids of the Ree-Tits Octagon

Two results are obtained that give upper bounds on partial spreads and partial ovoids respectively. The first result is that the size of a partial spread of the Hermitian polar space $\mathsf{H}(3, q^2)$ is at most $\left(\frac{2p^3+p}{3} \right)^t+1$, where $q=p^t$, $p$ is a prime. For fixed $p$ this bound is in $o(q^3)$, which is asymptotically better than the previous best known bound of $(q^3+q+2)/2$. Linear codes associated with the Desarguesian ovoids in $Q^+(7,q)$

The Desarguesian ovoids in the orthogonal polar space $Q^+(7,q)$ with $q$ even have first been introduced by Kantor by examining the $8$-dimensional absolutely irreducible modular representations of $\text{PGL}(2,q^3)$. We investigate this module for all prime power values of $q$. The shortest $\text{PGL}(2,q^3)$-orbit $O$ gives the Desarguesian ovoid in $Q^+(7,q)$ for even $q$ and it is known to give a complete partial ovoid of the symplectic polar space $W(7,q)$ for odd~$q$. Constant rank-distance sets of hermitian matrices and partial spreads in hermitian polar spaces

In this paper we investigate partial spreads of $H(2n-1,q^2)$ through the related notion of partial spread sets of hermitian matrices, and the more general notion of constant rank-distance sets.
