In this paper, we introduced the mildly version of the Hurewicz basis covering property, studied by Babinkostova, Kočinac, and Scheepers. A space $X$ is said to have mildly-Hurewicz property if for each sequence $\langle \mathcal{U}_n : n\in ω\rangle$ of clopen covers of $X$ there is a sequence $\langle \mathcal{V}_n : n\in ω\rangle$ such that for each $n$, $\mathcal{V}_n$ is a finite subset of $\mathcal{U}_n$ and for each $x\in X$, $x$ belongs to $\bigcup\mathcal{V}_n$ for all but finitely many $n$. Then we characterized mildly-Hurewicz property by mildly-Hurewicz Basis property and mildly-Hurewicz measure zero property for metrizable spaces.
In this paper, we continue to investigate topological properties of $\mathcal{I}H$ and its two star versions namely $SS \mathcal{I} H$ and $S \mathcal{I} H$. We characterized $\mathcal{I}$-Hurewicz property by $\mathcal{I}$-Hurewicz Basis property and $\mathcal{I}$-Hurewicz measure zero property for metrizable spaces. We also characterized $\mathcal{I}$-Hurewicz property, star-$\mathcal{I}$-Hurewicz property and strongly star-$\mathcal{I}$-Hurewicz property using selection principles.
We prove that under certain set-theoretic assumptions every productively Lindelöf space has the Hurewicz covering property, thus improving upon some earlier results of Aurichi and Tall.
For a Tychonoff space $X$, we denote by $C_p(X)$ the space of all real-valued continuous functions on $X$ with the topology of pointwise convergence. We give the functional characterization of the covering property of Hurewicz.
According to a result of Kocinac and Scheepers, the Hurewicz covering property is equivalent to a somewhat simpler selection property: For each sequence of large open covers of the space one can choose finitely many elements from each cover to obtain a groupable cover of the space. We simplify the characterization further by omitting the need to consider sequences of covers: A set of reals $X$ satisfies the Hurewicz property if, and only if, each large open cover of $X$ contains a groupable subcover. This solves in the affirmative a problem of Scheepers. The proof uses a rigorously justified a…
A space $X$ is said to have the set star Hurewicz property if for each nonempty subset $A$ of $X$ and each sequence $(\mathcal{U}_n: n \in \mathbb{N})$ of sets open in $X$ such that for each $n\in \mathbb N$, $\overline{A} \subset \cup \mathcal{U}_n$, there is a sequence $(\mathcal{V}_n: n \in \mathbb{N})$ such that for each $n \in \mathbb{N}$, $\mathcal{V}_n$ is a finite subset of $\mathcal{U}_n$ and for each $x \in A$, $x \in {\rm St}(\cup \mathcal{V}_n, \mathcal{U}_n)$ for all but finitely many $n$. In this paper, we investigate the relationships among set star Hurewicz, set strongly star H…
This article is devoted to the interplay between forcing with fusion and combinatorial covering properties. We illustrate this interplay by proving that in the Laver model for the consistency of the Borel's conjecture, the product of any two metrizable spaces with the Hurewicz property has the Menger property.

We study the preservation of selective covering properties, including classic ones introduced by Menger, Hurewicz, Rothberger, Gerlits and Nagy, and others, under products with some major families of concentrated sets of reals. Our methods include the projection method introduced by the authors in an earlier work, as well as several new methods. Some special consequences of our main results are (definitions provided in the paper): \be \item Every product of a concentrated space with a Hurewicz $\sone(\Ga,\Op)$ space satisfies $\sone(\Ga,\Op)$. On the other hand, assuming \CH{}, for each Sierpi…
Which Isbell--Mrówka spaces ($Ψ$-spaces) satisfy the star version of Menger's and Hurewicz's covering properties? Following Bonanzinga and Matveev, this question is considered here from a combinatorial point of view. An example of a $Ψ$-space that is (strongly) star-Menger but not star-Hurewicz is obtained. The PCF-theory function $κ\mapsto\cof([κ]^\alephes)$ is a key tool. Using the method of forcing, a complete answer to a question of Bonanzinga and Matveev is provided. The results also apply to the mentioned covering properties in the realm of Pixley--Roy spaces, to the extent of spaces wit…
This article is a continuation of the study of bornological open covers and related selection principles in metric spaces done in (Chandra et al. 2020) using the idea of strong uniform convergence (Beer and Levi, 2009) on bornology. Here we explore further ramifications, presenting characterizations of various selection principles related to certain classes of bornological covers using the Ramseyan partition relations, interactive results between the cardinalities of bornological bases and certain selection principles involving bornological covers, producing new observations on the $\mathfrak{…
A classical theorem of Hurewicz characterizes spaces with the Hurewicz covering property as those having bounded continuous images in the Baire space. We give a similar characterization for spaces X which have the Hurewicz property hereditarily. We proceed to consider the class of Arhangel'skii alpha_1 spaces, for which every sheaf at a point can be amalgamated in a natural way. Let C_p(X) denote the space of continuous real-valued functions on X with the topology of pointwise convergence. Our main result is that C_p(X) is an alpha_1 space if, and only if, each Borel image of X in the Baire sp…
We prove that the Hurewicz property is not preserved by finite products in the Miller model. This is a consequence of the fact that Miller forcing preserves ground model $γ$-spaces.
We provide simplified solutions of Menger's and Hurewicz's problems and conjectures, concerning generalizations of sigma-compactness. The reader who is new to this field will find a self-contained treatment in Sections 1, 2, and 5. Sections 3 and 4 contain new results, based on the mentioned simplified solutions. The main new result is that there is a set of reals X of cardinality equal to the unbounding number b, and which has the following property: "Given point-cofinite covers U_1,U_2,... of X, there are for each n sets u_n,v_n in U_n, such that each member of X is contained in all but fini…
Using the idea of strong uniform convergence on bornology, Caserta, Di Maio and Kočinac studied open covers and selection principles in the realm of metric spaces (associated with a bornology) and function spaces (w.r.t. the topology of strong uniform convergence). We primarily continue in the line initiated before and investigate the behaviour of various selection principles related to these classes of bornological covers. In the process we obtain implications among these selection principles resulting in Scheepers' like diagrams. We also introduce the notion of strong-$\mathfrac{B}$-Hurewicz…
Hurewicz' characterized the dimension of separable metrizable spaces by means of finite-to-one maps. We investigate whether this characterization also holds in the class of compact F-spaces of weight c. Our main result is that, assuming the Continuum Hypothesis, an n-dimensional compact F-space of weight c is the continuous image of a zero-dimensional compact Hausdorff space by an at most 2n-to-1 map.
We study productive properties of gamma spaces, and their relation to other, classic and modern, selective covering properties. Among other things, we prove the following results: 1. Solving a problem of F. Jordan, we show that for every unbounded tower set of reals X of cardinality aleph_1, the space Cp(X) is productively FU. In particular, the set X is productively gamma. 2. Solving problems of Scheepers and Weiss, and proving a conjecture of Babinkostova-Scheepers, we prove that, assuming CH, there are gamma spaces whose product is not even Menger. 3. Solving a problem of Scheepers-Tall, we…
An inverse limit of a sequence of covering spaces over a given space $X$ is not, in general, a covering space over $X$ but is still a lifting space, i.e. a Hurewicz fibration with unique path lifting property. Of particular interest are inverse limits of finite coverings (resp. finite regular coverings), which yield fibrations whose fiber is homeomorphic to the Cantor set (resp. profinite topological group). To illustrate the breadth of the theory, we present in this note some curious examples of lifting spaces that cannot be obtained as inverse limits of covering spaces.
Let $\mathcal{P}$ be a topological property. A.V. Arhangel'skii calls $X$ projectively $\mathcal{P}$ if every second countable continuous image of $X$ is $\mathcal{P}$. Lj.D.R. Ko$\check{c}$inac characterized the classical covering properties of Menger, Rothberger, Hurewicz and Gerlits-Nagy in term of continuous images in $\mathbb{R}^ω$. In this paper we study the functional characterizations of all projective versions of the selection properties in the Scheepers Diagram.
In this paper we develop a new approach to the study of uncountable fundamental groups by using Hurewicz fibrations with the unique path-lifting property (lifting spaces for short) as a replacement for covering spaces. In particular, we consider the inverse limit of a sequence of covering spaces of $X$. It is known that the path-connectivity of the inverse limit can be expressed by means of the derived inverse limit functor $\varprojlim^1$, which is, however, notoriously difficult to compute when the $π_1(X)$ is uncountable. To circumvent this difficulty, we express the set of path-components o…
The_additivity_number_ of a topological property (relative to a given space) is the minimal number of subspaces with this property whose union does not have the property. The most well-known case is where this number is greater than Aleph_0, i.e. the property is sigma-additive. We give a rather complete survey of the known results about the additivity numbers of a variety of topological covering properties, including those appearing in the Scheepers diagram (which contains, among others, the classical properties of Menger, Hurewicz, Rothberger, and Gerlits-Nagy). Some of the results proved her…
We study products of general topological spaces with Menger's covering property, and its refinements based on filters and semifilters. To this end, we extend the projection method from the classic real line topology to the Michael topology. Among other results, we prove that, assuming \CH{}, every productively Lindelöf space is productively Menger, and every productively Menger space is productively Hurewicz. None of these implications is reversible.
