This paper is devoted to the study of interactions between stationary electromagnetic sources for the minimal and nonminimal CPT-odd photon sector of the Standard Model Extension (SME), where we search mainly for physical phenomena not present in the Maxwell electrodynamics. First we consider the minimal CPT-odd sector, where the Lorentz violation is caused by the Carroll-Field-Jackiw (CFJ) term, namely $\simε^{μναβ}\left(k_{AF}\right)_μA_νF_{αβ}$, and we treat the Lorentz breaking parameter $\left(k_{AF}\right)^μ$ perturbatively up to second order. We consider effects due to the presence of point-like charges, Dirac strings and point-like dipoles. In special, we calculate the electromagnetic field produced outside the string and investigate the so called Aharonov-Bohm bound states in Lorentz violation context. After, we consider a model where the Lorentz violation is generated by the higher-derivative version of the CFJ model, namely $\simε^{μναβ}V_μA_ν\Box F_{αβ}$, which is a dimension five term of the CPT-odd sector of the nonminimal SME. For this higher-derivative model, we obtain effects up to second order in $V^μ$ related to the presence of point-like charges and a steady current line. We use overestimated constrains for the Lorentz violation parameters in order to investigate the physical relevance of some results found in atomic systems. We also make an overestimate for the background vectors using experimental data from the atomic electric field.
We propose a CPT-even and Lorentz-violating dimension-five nonminimal coupling between fermionic and gauge fields, involving the CPT-even and Lorentz-violating gauge tensor of the Standard-Model Extension. This nonminimal coupling modifies the nonrelativistic regime of Dirac particles, inducing new effects such as an electric-Zeeman-like spectrum splitting and an anomalous-like contribution to the electron magnetic moment. These new effects allow to constrain the magnitude of this nonminimal coupling in 1 part in $10^{16}.$
We propose a new \emph{CPT}-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal coupling between fermions and Abelian gauge fields involving the CPT-even tensor $(K_{F})_{μναβ}$ of the standard model extension. We thus investigate its effects on the cross section of the electron-positron scattering by analyzing the process $e^{+}+e^{-}\rightarrowμ^{+}+μ^{-}$. Such a study was performed for the parity-odd and parity-even nonbirefringent components of the Lorentz-violating $(K_{F})_{μναβ}$ tensor. Finally, by using experimental data available in the literature, we have imposed upper bounds as tight as $10^{-1…
In this work, we propose a CPT-even and Lorentz-violating dimension-five nonminimal coupling between fermionic and gauge fields, involving the CTP-even and Lorentz-violating gauge tensor of the SME. This nonminimal coupling modifies the Dirac equation, whose nonrelativistic regime is governed by a Hamiltonian which induces new effects, such as an electric-Zeeman-like spectrum splitting and an anomalous-like contribution to the electron magnetic moment, between others. Some of these new effects allows to constrain the magnitude of this nonminimal coupling in 1 part in 10^16.
We consider the Lorentz-violating extended QED involving all nonminimal dimension-5 additive CPT-odd terms. For this theory, we investigate the possibility of generating the Carroll-Field-Jackiw (CFJ) term of the first order in any of these nonminimal couplings. This term is demonstrated to vanish in certain regularization schemes. We also study the question of higher-derivative divergent contributions and demonstrate that they can be eliminated by considering a given proportionality between the coefficients.
In this letter we show for the first time that the usual CPT-even gauge term of the standard model extension (SME) can be radiatively generated, in a gauge invariant level, in the context of a modified QED endowed with a dimension-five nonminimal coupling term recently proposed in the literature. As a consequence, the existing upper bounds on the coefficients of the tensor $(K_{F}) $ can be used improve the bounds on the magnitude of the nonminimal coupling, $λ(K_{F}),$ by the factors $10^{5}$ or $10^{25}.$ The nonminimal coupling also generates higher-order derivative contributions to the gau…
We have studied the existence of topological self-dual configurations in a nonminimal CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating (LV) Maxwell-Higgs model, where the LV interaction is introduced by modifying the minimal covariant derivative. The Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield formalism has been implemented, revealing that the scalar self-interaction implying self-dual equations contains a derivative coupling. The CPT-odd self-dual equations describe electrically neutral configurations with finite total energy proportional to the total magnetic flux, which differ from the charged solutions of other CPT-odd a…
In this letter, we examine a new class of CPT-even nonminimal interactions, between fermions and photons, deprived of higher order derivatives, that yields electric dipole moment (EDM) and magnetic dipole moment (MDM) in the context of the Dirac equation. The couplings are dimension-five CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal structures, composed of a rank-2 tensor, $T_{μν}$, the electromagnetic tensor, and gamma matrices, being addressed in its axial and non-axial Hermitian versions, and also comprising general possibilities. We then use the electron's anomalous magnetic dipole moment and …
An effective model for QED with the addition of a nonminimal coupling with a chiral character is investigated. This term, which is proportional to a fixed 4-vector $b_μ$, violates Lorentz symmetry and may originate a CPT-even Lorentz breaking term in the photon sector. It is shown that this Lorentz breaking CPT-even term is generated and that,in addition, the chiral nonminimal coupling requires this term is present from the beginning. The nonrenormalizability of the model is invoked in the discussion of this fact and the result is confronted with the one from a model with a Lorentz-violating n…
In this work, we propose two possibilities of CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating (LV) nonminimal couplings in the Electroweak sector. These terms are gauge-invariant and couple a fixed 4-vector to the physical fields of the theory. After determining the LV contributions to the electroweak currents, we reassess the evaluation of the decay rate for the vector mediators $W$ and $Z$. Using the experimental uncertainty in these decay rates, upper bounds of $1$ part in $10^{-15}$ (eV )$^{-1}$ and $10^{-14}$ (eV )$^{-1}$ are imposed on the magnitude of the proposed nonmimal interactions.
We analyse some dimension-five CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal couplings between fermionic and gauge fields in the context of the Dirac equation. After evaluating the nonrelativistic Hamiltonian, we discuss the behavior of the terms under discrete symmetries and analyse the implied effects. We then use the anomalous magnetic dipole moment and electron electric dipole moment measurements to reach upper bounds of $1$ part in $10^{20}$ and $10^{24}$ $\left( eV\right) ^{-1}$, improving the level of restriction on such couplings by at least 8 orders of magnitude. These upper bounds are al…
Various ambiguous results on radiatively induced Lorentz and CPT violation in quantum electrodynamics with a modified fermionic sector are reviewed and possible explanations for this ambiguity appearing in the literature are commentated. Furthermore, joint between stringent limit from astrophysical observation and theoretical prediction on Lorenz and CPT violation is discussed.
We have studied the contributions of Lorentz-violating CPT-odd and CPT-even nonminimal couplings to the energy spectrum of the mesonic hydrogen and the higher-order radiative corrections to the effective action of the photon sector of a Lorentz-violating version of the scalar electrodynamics. By considering the complex scalar field describes charged mesons (pion or kaon), the non-relativistic limit of the model allows to attain upper-bounds by analyzing its contribution to the mesonic hydrogen energy. By using the experimental data for the $1S$ strong correction shift and the pure QED transiti…
If violation of Lorentz and CPT symmetry is introduced into the fermion sector of conventional quantum electrodynamics, then the Chern-Simons term is radiatively induced with finite nonzero coefficient, as well as the Maxwell term is with logarithmically divergent one. The heat kernel expansion and the proper time methods are used to determine the effective action in the one-loop approximation unambiguously.
Based on the motivation that some quantum gravity theories predicts the Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) around Planck-scale energy levels, this paper proposes a new formalism that addresses the possible effects of LIV in the electrodynamics. This formalism is capable of changing the usual electrodynamics through high derivative arbitrary mass dimension terms that includes a constant background field controlling the intensity of LIV in the models, producing modifications in the dispersion relations in a manner that is similar to the Myers-Pospelov approach. With this framework, it was possib…
In a Lorentz- and CPT-violating modification of electrodynamics, the fields of a moving charge are known to have unusual singularities. This raises the question of whether the singular behavior may include $δ$-function contact terms, similar to those that appear in the fields of idealized dipoles. However, by calculating the magnetic field of an infinite straight wire in this theory, we demonstrate that there are no such contact terms in the magnetic field of a moving point charge
We consider quantum electrodynamics with additional coupling of spinor fields to the space-time independent axial vector violating both Lorentz and CPT symmetries. The Fock-Schwinger proper time method is used to calculate the one-loop effective action up to the second order in the axial vector and to all orders in the space-time independent electromagnetic field strength. We find that the Chern-Simons term is not radiatively induced and that the effective action is CPT invariant in the given approximation.
In this letter we study the self-energy of a point-like charge for the electromagnetic field in a non minimal Lorentz symmetry breaking scenario in a $n+1$ dimensional space time. We consider two variations of a model where the Lorentz violation is caused by a background vector $d^ν$ that appears in a higher derivative interaction. We restrict our attention to the case where $d^μ$ is a time-like background vector, namely $d^{2}=d^μd_μ>0$, and we verify that the classical self-energy is finite for any odd spatial dimension $n$ and diverges for even $n$. We also make some comments regarding obst…
We have studied BPS vortices in a CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs (MCSH) electrodynamics attained from the dimensional reduction of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw-Higgs model. The Lorentz-violating parameter induces a pronounced behavior at origin (for the magnetic/electric fields and energy density) which is absent in the MCSH vortices. For some combination of the Lorentz-violating coefficients there always exist a sufficiently large winding number $n_{0}$ such that for all $% |n|\geq |n_{0}|$ the magnetic field flips its signal, yielding two well defined regions with oppos…
This work examines the finite temperature properties of the CPT-even and parity-odd electrodynamics of the standard model extension. We start from the partition function written into the functional integral formalism in Ref. \cite{Finite}. After specializing the Lorentz-violating tensor $ W_{ανρφ}$ for the nonbirefringent and parity-odd coefficients, the partition function is explicitly carry out, showing that it is a power of the Maxwell's partition function. Also, it is observed that the LIV coefficients induce an anisotropy in the black body angular energy density distribution. The Planck's…
In this paper, based on the Standard Model Extended gauge sector, we made a non-minimal coupling in the Klein-Gordon equation which characterizes the Lorentz symmetry violation and, through this nonminimal CPT-odd coupling, we investigate the effects of possible scenarios of Lorentz symmetry violation by electrical and magnetic field configurations on a massive scalar field in this background, where, analytically, we determine solutions of bound states.
In isotropic but Lorentz- and CPT-violating electrodynamics, it is known that a charge in unifom motion does not lose any energy to Cerenkov radiation. This presents a puzzle, since the radiation appears to be kinematically allowed for many modes. Studying the Fourier transforms of the most important terms in the modified magnetic field and Poynting vector, we confirm the vanishing of the the radiation rate. Moreover, we show that the Fourier transform of the field changes sign between small and large wave numbers. This enables modes with very long wavelengths to carry negative energies, which…
The one-loop divergences for the scalar field theory with Lorentz and/or CPT breaking terms are obtained in curved space-time. We analyze two separate cases: minimal coupled scalar field with gravity and nonminimal one. For the minimal case with real scalar field, the counterterms are evaluated in a nonperturbative form in the CPT-even parameter through a redefinition of space-time metric. In the most complicated case of complex scalar field nonminimally interacting with gravity, the solution for the divergences is obtained in the first order in the weak Lorentz violating parameter. The necess…
We examine the nonperturbative structure of the radiatively induced Chern-Simons term in a Lorentz- and CPT-violating modification of QED. Although the coefficient of the induced Chern-Simons term is in general undetermined, the nonperturbative theory appears to generate a definite value. However, the CPT-even radiative corrections in this same formulation of the theory generally break gauge invariance. We show that gauge invariance may yet be preserved through the use of a Pauli-Villars regulator, and, contrary to earlier expectations, this regulator does not necessarily give rise to a vanish…
We study CPT- and Lorentz-odd electrodynamics described by the Standard Model Extension. Its radiation is confined to the geometry of hollow conductor waveguide, open along $z$. In a special class of reference frames, with vanishing both 0-th and $z$ components of the background field, $(k_{\rm AF})^μ$, we realize a number of {\em huge and macroscopically detectable} effects on the confined waves spectra, compared to standard results. Particularly, if $(k_{\rm AF})^μ$ points along $x$ (or $y$) direction only transverse electric modes, with $E_z=0$, should be observed propagating throughout the…
We show that the ambiguity for the Chern-Simons-like term induced from quantum correction in the extended QED should have nothing to do with the approximation on the exact fermionic propagator, contradictory to the claim in Ref.[19]. Further, we investigate the induced Chern-Simons-like term using the original 't Hooft-Veltman dimensional regularization and reproduce the result obtained by gauge symmetry analysis. This fact demonstrates that the origin of the ambiguity should lie in different choices on regularization schemes.
We have established the Gupta-Bleuler quantization of the photon belonging to the anisotropic parity-even sector of the CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonbirefringent electrodynamics of the standard model extension. We first present a rule for the Maxwell electrodynamics to be successfully quantized via Gupta-Bleuler technique in the Lorentz gauge. Recognizing the failure of the Gupta-Bleuler method in the Lorentz gauge, $\partial _{μ}A^{μ}=0$, for this massless LV theory, we argue that Gupta-Bleuler can be satisfactorily implemented by choosing a modified Lorentz condition, $\partial _{μ}A^{μ…
This paper is dedicated to the study of interactions between external sources for the electromagnetic field in a model which exhibits Lorentz symmetry breaking. We investigate such interactions in the CPT-even photon sector of the Standard Model Extension (SME), where the Lorentz symmetry breaking is caused by a background tensor $K_{(F)αβστ}$. Since the background tensor is very tiny, we treat it perturbatively up to first order and we focus on physical phenomena which have no counterpart in Maxwell electrodynamics. We consider effects related to field sources describing point-like charges, s…

Some aspects of the nonbirefringent CPT-even gauge sector of the Standard Model Extension (SME), in the vicinity of a semi-transparent mirror, are investigated in this paper. We first consider a model where the Lorentz symmetry breaking is caused by a single background vector $v^μ$, and we obtain perturbative results up to second order in $v^μ$. Specifically, we compute the modified propagator for the gauge field due to the presence of the mirror and we analyze the corresponding interaction between the mirror and a stationary point-like charge. We show that when the charge is placed in the vic…
In this work, we employ algebraic renormalization technique to show the renormalizability to all orders in perturbation theory of the Lorentz and CPT violating QED. Essentially, we control the breaking terms by using a suitable set of external sources. Thus, with the symmetries restored, a perturbative treatment can be consistently employed. After showing the renormalizability, the external sources attain certain physical values, which allow the recovering of the starting physical action. The main result is that the original QED action presents the three usual independent renormalization param…
In this work, we examine the finite temperature properties of the CPT-even and Lorentz-invariance-violating (LIV) electrodynamics of the standard model extension, represented by the term $W_{ανρϕ}F^{αν}F^{ρϕ}$. We begin analyzing the hamiltonian structure following the Dirac's procedure for constrained systems and construct a well-defined and gauge invariant partition function in the functional integral formalism. Next, we specialize for the non-birefringent coefficients of the tensor $W_{ανρϕ}$. In the sequel, the partition function is explicitly carried out for the parity-even sector of the …
We consider the process of photon decay in quantum electrodynamics with a CPT-violating Chern-Simons-like term added to the action. For a simplified model with only the quadratic Maxwell and Chern-Simons-like terms and the quartic Euler-Heisenberg term, we obtain a nonvanishing probability for the decay of a particular photon state into three others.
In this paper, we investigate an electrodynamics in which the physical modes are coupled to a Lorentz-violating (LV) background by means of a higher-derivative term. We analyze the modes associated with the dispersion relations (DRs) obtained from the poles of the propagator. More specifically, we study Maxwell's electrodynamics modified by a LV operator of mass dimension 6. The modification has the form ${D_{βα}}\partial_σF^{σβ}\partial_λ F^{λα}$, i.e., it possesses two additional derivatives coupled to a \textit{CPT}-even tensor $D_{βα}$ that plays the role of the fixed background. We first …
We have performed a complete study of BPS vortex solutions in the Abelian sector of the standard model extension (SME). Specifically, we have coupled the SME electromagnetism with a Higgs field which is supplemented with a Lorentz-violating CPT-even term. We have verified that Lorentz violation (LV) belonging to the Higgs sector allows to interpolate between some well known models like, Maxwell-Higgs, Chern-Simons-Higgs and Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs. We can also observed that the electrical charged density distribution is nonnull in both CPT-even and CPT-odd models; however, the total electri…
We study magnetic monopoles in a Lorentz- and CPT-odd electrodynamical framework in (3+1) dimensions. This is the standard Maxwell model extended by means of a Chern-Simons-like term, $b_μ\tilde{F}^{μν}A_ν$ ($b_μ$ constant), which respects gauge invariance but violates both Lorentz and CPT symmetries (as a consequence, duality is also lost). Our main interest concerns the analysis of the model in the presence of Dirac monopoles, so that the Bianchi identity no longer holds, which naively yields the non-conservation of electric charge. Since gauge symmetry is respected, the issue of charge cons…
We have studied a (1+2)-dimensional Lorentz-violating model which is obtained from the dimensional reduction of the nonbirefringent sector of the CPT-even electrodynamics of the standard model extension (SME). The planar theory contains a gauge sector and a scalar sector which are linearly coupled by means of a Lorentz-invariance violating (LIV) vector, $S^μ$, while the kinetic terms of both sectors are affected by the components of a Lorentz-violating symmetric tensor, $κ^{μν}$. The energy-momentum tensor reveals that both sectors present energy stability for sufficiently small values of the …
In a nonperturbative formulation, radiative corrections arising from Lorentz and CPT violation in the fermion sector induce a definite and nonzero Chern-Simons addition to the electromagnetic action. If instead a perturbative formulation is used, an infinite class of theories characterized by the value of the Chern-Simons coefficient emerges at the quantum level.
In the current paper the properties of a quantum field theory based on certain sets of Lorentz-violating coefficients in the nonminimal fermion sector of the Standard-Model Extension are analyzed. In particular, three families of coefficients are considered, where two of them are CPT-even and the third is CPT-odd. As a first step the modified fermion dispersion relations are obtained. Then the positive- and negative-energy solutions of the modified Dirac equation and the fermion propagator are derived. These are used to demonstrate the validity of the optical theorem at tree-level, which provi…
We consider an effective model formed by usual QED (minimal coupling) with the addition of a nonminimal Lorentz violating interaction (proportional to a fixed 4-vector $b_μ$) which may radiatively generate both CPT even and odd terms in the pure gauge sector. We show that gauge invariance from usual QED, considered as a limit of the model for $b_μ\rightarrow 0$, plays an important role in the discussion of the radiatively induced Lorentz violating terms at one-loop order. Moreover, despite the nonrenormalizability of the (effective) model preventing us from readily extending our discussion to …
The CPT-even gauge sector of the Standard Model Extension is composed of nineteen components comprised in the tensor $(K_{F})_{μνρσ}$, of \ which nine do not yield birefringence. In this work, we examine the Maxwell electrodynamics supplemented by these nine nonbirefringent CPT-even components in aspects related to the Feynman propagator and full consistency (stability, causality, unitarity). We adopt a prescription that parametrizes the nonbirefringent components in terms of a symmetric and traceless tensor, $K_{μν},$ and second parametrization that writes $K_{μν}$ in terms of two arbitrary f…
We investigate the precisely measured anomalous magnetic moment and Lamb shift as tests for the possible existence of the radiatively induced Lorentz and CPT violation effects in quantum electrodynamics. To this end we calculate the one-loop vacuum polarization tensor and vertex radiative correction in dimensional reduction and on-shell renormalization scheme. We explicitly show how the Lorentz and CPT violation sector affects the anomalous magnetic moment and Lamb shift. Remarkably, we find infrared divergences coming from Lorentz and CPT violating term that do not cancel in physical cross se…
In this work, we consider the Hořava-Lifshitz scaling to rewrite higher-order derivatives in Lorentz-violating CPT-even electrodynamics. The possibility of the Lorentz invariance violation being originally suppressed by the quantum gravity energy scale $M_{\rm QG}$, may be indeed circumvented in a scenario with anisotropy between space and time above certain intermediate energy scale $Λ_{\rm HL} \ll M_{\rm QG}$. To test the model, we have used observational results of a cosmological time delay between high and low energy photons from gamma ray bursts (GRB090510) event. For specific values of t…
Lorentz and CPT symmetries may be violated in new physics that emerges at very high energy scale, i.e., at the Planck scale. The differential cross section of the Möller scattering, due to Lorentz violation at finite temperature is calculated. Lorentz-violating effects emerge from an interaction vertex due to a CPT-odd nonminimal coupling in the covariant derivative. The finite temperature effects are determined using the Thermo Field Dynamics (TFD) formalism.
We calculate the induced Lorentz- and CPT-violating Chern-Simons term arising from the Lorentz- and CPT-violating sector of quantum electrodynamics with a $b_μ\barψγ^μγ_5ψ$ term. The result to all orders in $b$ coincides with the previous linear-in-$b$ calulation by Chung and Oh [hep-th/9812132] as well as Jackiw and Kostelecký [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 82}, 3572 (1999)], since all higher order terms vanish.
Radiative corrections arising from Lorentz violation in the fermion sector induce a nonzero amplitude for vacuum photon splitting. At one loop, the on-shell amplitude acquires both CPT-even and CPT-odd contributions forbidden in conventional electrodynamics.
We show that the general Lorentz- and CPT-violating extension of quantum electrodynamics is one-loop renormalizable. The one-loop Lorentz-violating beta functions are obtained, and the running of the coefficients for Lorentz and CPT violation is determined. Some implications for theory and experiment are discussed.
The electrodynamics with a Chern-Simons term $p_μA_ν\widetilde{F}^{μν}$ violates Lorentz and $CPT$ symmetries with a non-vanishing $p_μ$. For a fixed vector $p_μ$, in this paper we point out that the energy-momentum tensor of this theory coupled to the gravity minimally is symmetric but not divergence free, which consequently makes the gravitational field equation inconsistent. To preserve the consistency, we introduce a Chern-Simons term in the gravity sector with the coefficient determined by the Lorentz and $CPT$ violating term in the electromagnetic field. Further we study the phenomenolog…
In the current paper, we construct a Lorentz-violating electrodynamics in (1+2) spacetime dimensions from the electromagnetic sector of the nonminimal Standard-Model Extension (SME) in (1+3) dimensions. Subsequently, we study some of the basic properties of this framework. We obtain the field equations, the Green's functions, and the perturbative Feynman rules. Furthermore, the modified dispersion relations are computed at leading order in Lorentz violation. We then remove the unphysical degrees of freedom from the electromagnetic Green's function that are present due to gauge invariance. The …
The Aharonov-Casher problem in the presence of a Lorentz-violating background nonminimally coupled to a spinor and a gauge field is examined. Using an approach based on the self-adjoint extension method, an expression for the bound state energies is obtained in terms of the physics of the problem by determining the self-adjoint extension parameter.

The two-dimensional aether-superspace is constructed and the superfield techniques are applied to the study of dynamical generation of mass in the Lorentz-violating supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics in two dimensions of spacetime. It is shown that such model presents a dynamical generation of mass to the gauge aether-superfield and its dispersion relation has the structure similar of the CPT-even Lorentz-breaking models.
We study a number of issues related to the emission and absorption radiation by non-relativistic electrons within the framework of a Lorentz-breaking electrodynamics in (3+1) dimensions. Our main results concern how Planck-like spectrum law is sensitive to terms that violate Lorentz symmetry. We have realized that Planck law acquires extra terms proportional to the violating parameters: for the CPT-odd model, the leading extra terms appear to be linear or quadratic in these violating parameters according to the background vector is parallel or perpendicular to the photon wave-vector. In the CP…
The Schwinger proper-time method is an effective calculation method, explicitly gauge invariant and nonperturbative. We make use of this method to investigate the radiatively induced Lorentz and CPT-violating effects in quantum electrodynamics when an axial vector interaction term is introduced in the fermionic sector. The induced Lorentz and CPT-violating Chern-Simons term coincides with the one obtained using a covariant derivative expansion but differs from the result usually obtained in other regularization schemes. A possible ambiguity in the approach is also discussed.
Renormalizability of the (minimal) single-fermion QED extension is investigated at all orders of perturbation theory in the framework of algebraic renormalization, a regularization-independent method. Relative to the standard QED, new structures that could lead to gauge anomalies are identified. Nevertheless, even if the anomaly coefficients fail to vanish in the general case, they shall be absent provided we require invariance of the action under C and/or PT transformations. Stability is also verified in this case, hence full renormalizability is attained.
Using the Fock-Schwinger proper time method, we calculate the induced Chern-Simons term arising from the Lorentz- and CPT-violating sector of quantum electrodynamics with a $b_μ\barψγ^μγ_5 ψ$ term. Our result to all orders in $b$ coincides with a recent linear-in-$b$ calculation by Chaichian et al. [hep-th/0010129 v2]. The coincidence was pointed out by Chung [Phys. Lett. {\bf B461} (1999) 138] and Pérez-Victoria [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 83} (1999) 2518] in the standard Feynman diagram calculation with the nonperturbative-in-$b$ propagator.
