In the present paper we show that the Hamiltonian describing the resonant interaction of $N$ two-level systems with a single-mode electromagnetic quantum field in the Coulomb gauge can be diagonalized with a high degree of accuracy using a simple basis set of states. This allows one to find an analytical approximation for the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the system, which interpolates the numerical solution in a broad range of the coupling constant values. In addition, the introduced basis states provide a regular way of calculating the corrections and estimating the convergence to the exact numerical solution. The obtained results are valid for both quantum Rabi model ($N = 1$) and the Dicke model for $N \geq 2$ atoms.
We systematically study the chaotic signatures in a quantum many-body system consisting of an ensemble of interacting two-level atoms coupled to a single-mode bosonic field, the so-called extended Dicke model. The presence of the atom-atom interaction also leads us to explore how the atomic interaction affects the chaotic characters of the model. By analyzing the energy spectral statistics and the structure of eigenstates, we reveal the quantum signatures of chaos in the model and discuss the effect of the atomic interaction. We also investigate the dependence of the boundary of chaos extracte…
We investigate the spectrum of energy and eigenstates of a hybrid cavity optomechanical system, where a cavity field mode interacts with a mechanical mode of a vibrating end mirror via radiation pressure and with a two level atom via electric dipole interaction. In the spirit of approximations developed for the quantum Rabi model beyond rotating-wave approximation (RWA), we implement the so-called generalized RWA (GRWA) to diagonalize the tripartite Hamiltonian for arbitrary large couplings. Notably, the GRWA approach still allows to rewrite the hybrid Hamiltonian in a bipartite form, like a R…
We propose a method to create selective interactions with Dicke-Stark model by means of time-dependent perturbation theory. By choosing the proper rotating framework, we find that the time oscillating terms depend on the number of atomic excitations and the number of photonic excitations. Consequently, the Rabi oscillation between selective states can be realized by properly choosing the frequency of the two-level system. The second order selective interactions can also be studied with this method. Then various states such as Dicke states, superposition of Dicke states and GHZ states can be cr…
There has been an extensive development in the use of multi-partite entanglement as a resource for various quantum information processing tasks. In this paper we focus on preparing arbitrary spin eigenstates whose subset contain important entangled resources like Dicke states as well as some other sub-radiant states that are difficult to prepare. Leveraging on the symmetry of these states we consider uniform pairwise exchange coupling between every pair of qubits. Starting from a product state of a given spin eigenstate with a single qubit state, another spin eigenstate can be prepared using s…
The scientific interest in the analytical solution of the quantum Rabi model is due to the widespread use of this simple model in quantum optics, quantum computing, cavity QED, and nanoelectromechanical systems. This interest is related to the need for the theoretical description of the interaction of a two-level system with a quantum oscillator in the case when the rotating wave approximation fails. In this Letter, we present an approach to the exact diagonalization of the quantum Rabi Hamiltonian. This approach is based on the properties of the Pauli operators and allows us to readily solve …
An analytical approach is proposed to study the two-photon, two-mode and intensity-dependent Rabi models. By virtue of the su(1,1) Lie algebra, all of them can be unified to the same Hamiltonian with $\mathcal{Z}_2$ symmetry. There exist exact isolated solutions, which are located at the level crossings between different parities and correspond to eigenstates with finite dimension. Beyond the exact isolated solutions, the regular spectrum can be achieved by finding the roots of the G-function. The corresponding eigenstates are of infinite dimension. It is noteworthy that the expansion coeffici…

Parity describing the symmetry of quantum mechanics wavefunction under space inversion transformation not only plays an essential role in solving quantum systems but also can be used to manipulate and measure the motional quantum states of such hybrid quantum systems as quantum Rabi model(QRM) and/or its variants through parity measurements. Here we address an exotic parity behavior of the QRM in its superradiant phase by numerical exact diagonalization, namely, the parities of eigenstates of the QRM behave irregular in the strong coupling regime but the sum of parities for each pair of eigens…
We present a detailed analysis of the connection between chaos and the onset of thermalization in the spin-boson Dicke model. This system has a well-defined classical limit with two degrees of freedom, and it presents both regular and chaotic regions. Our studies of the eigenstate expectation values and the distributions of the off-diagonal elements of the number of photons and the number of excited atoms validate the diagonal and off-diagonal eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) in the chaotic region, thus ensuring thermalization. The validity of the ETH reflects the chaotic structure o…
We investigate the quantum phase transition in the dissipative anisotropic quantum Rabi model in the framework of quantum dressed master equation. From perspectives of both numerical and analytical analysis, we unravel the implication of the giant photon-bunching feature on the first-order quantum phase transition. The observed two-photon statistics can be well described analytically within a few lowest eigenstates at the low temperature. Moreover, such significant photon-bunching peak is generally exhibited at the deep-strong qubit-photon coupling, which is however lacking in the dissipative …
The interplay of interactions, symmetries and gauge fields usually leads to intriguing quantum many-body phases. To explore the nature of emerging phases, we study a quantum Rabi triangle system as an elementary building block for synthesizing an artificial magnetic field. We develop an analytical approach to study the rich phase diagram and the associated quantum criticality. Of particular interest is the emergence of a chiral-coherent phase, which breaks both the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ and the chiral symmetry. In this chiral phase, photons flow unidirectionally and the chirality can be tuned by the …
We report the experimental observation of superradiant emission emanating from an elongated dense ensemble of laser cooled two-level atoms, with a radial extent smaller than the transition wavelength. In the presence of a strong driving laser, we observe that the system is superradiant along its symmmetry axis. This occurs even though the driving laser is orthogonal to the superradiance direction. This superradiance modifies the spontaneous emission, and, resultantly, the Rabi oscillations. We also investigate Dicke superradiance in the emission of an almost fully-inverted system as a function…
We show how the Jaynes--Cummings--Rabi model of cavity quantum electrodynamics can be realized via an isomorphism to the Hamiltonian of a qubit inside a parametric amplifier cavity. This realization clears the way to observe the full spectrum of the Rabi model via a probe applied to a parametric amplifier cavity containing a qubit and a parametric oscillator operating below threshold. An important outcome of the isomorphism is that the actual frequencies are replaced by detunings which make it feasible to reach the ultra-strong coupling regime. We find that inside this regime the probed spectr…
