Quantum state preparation of spin eigenstates including the Dicke states with generalized all-coupled interaction in a spintronic quantum computing architecture
There has been an extensive development in the use of multi-partite entanglement as a resource for various quantum information processing tasks. In this paper we focus on preparing arbitrary spin eigenstates whose subset contain important entangled resources like Dicke states as well as some other sub-radiant states that are difficult to prepare. Leveraging on the symmetry of these states we consider uniform pairwise exchange coupling between every pair of qubits. Starting from a product state of a given spin eigenstate with a single qubit state, another spin eigenstate can be prepared using simple time evolutions. This expansion paves a deterministic approach to prepare arbitrary Dicke states in linear steps. We discuss an improvement in this cost building up on a previous work for W states deterministic preparation in logarithmic circuit depth. The modified algorithm requires several iterations of pumping spin angular momentum into the system and is akin to the amplitude amplification in Grover search. As a use case to demonstrate the proposed scheme, we choose a system of non-interacting static spin qubits connected to a ferromagnetic reservoir. The flying qubits emerging from the reservoir locally interact with static qubits successively, mediating an in-direct exchange interaction between all the pairs.
In the present paper we show that the Hamiltonian describing the resonant interaction of $N$ two-level systems with a single-mode electromagnetic quantum field in the Coulomb gauge can be diagonalized with a high degree of accuracy using a simple basis set of states. This allows one to find an analytical approximation for the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the system, which interpolates the numerical solution in a broad range of the coupling constant values. In addition, the introduced basis states provide a regular way of calculating the corrections and estimating the convergence to the exac…
We systematically study the chaotic signatures in a quantum many-body system consisting of an ensemble of interacting two-level atoms coupled to a single-mode bosonic field, the so-called extended Dicke model. The presence of the atom-atom interaction also leads us to explore how the atomic interaction affects the chaotic characters of the model. By analyzing the energy spectral statistics and the structure of eigenstates, we reveal the quantum signatures of chaos in the model and discuss the effect of the atomic interaction. We also investigate the dependence of the boundary of chaos extracte…
We present a detailed analysis of the connection between chaos and the onset of thermalization in the spin-boson Dicke model. This system has a well-defined classical limit with two degrees of freedom, and it presents both regular and chaotic regions. Our studies of the eigenstate expectation values and the distributions of the off-diagonal elements of the number of photons and the number of excited atoms validate the diagonal and off-diagonal eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) in the chaotic region, thus ensuring thermalization. The validity of the ETH reflects the chaotic structure o…
We study the focus-focus type of monodromy in an integrable version of the Dicke model. Classical orbits forming a pinched torus represent analogues of the dynamic superradiance under conditions of a closed system. Quantum signatures of monodromy appear in lattices of expectation values of various quantities in the Hamiltonian eigenstates and are related to an excited-state quantum phase transition. We demonstrate the breakdown of these structures with an increasing strength of non-integrable perturbation.
The N=3 Dicke model couples three qubits to a single radiation mode via dipole interaction and constitutes the simplest quantum-optical system allowing for Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states. In contrast to the case N=1 (the Rabi model), it is non-integrable if the counter-rotating terms are included. The spectrum is determined analytically, employing the singularity structure of an associated differential equation. While quasi-exact eigenstates known from the Rabi model do not exist, a novel type of spectral degeneracy becomes possible which is not associated with a symmetry of the system.
We study the dynamical properties of the Dicke model for increasing spin length, as the system approaches the limit of a classical spin. First, we describe the emergence of collective excitations above the groundstate that converge to the coupled spin-oscillator oscillations found in the classical limit. The corresponding Green functions reveal quantum dynamical signatures close to the superradiant quantum phase transition. Second, we identify signatures of classical quasi-periodic orbits in the quantum time evolution using numerical time-propagation of the wave function. The resulting phase s…
We try to classify the spectrum of the two-qubit Dicke model by calculating two quantum information measures of its eigenstates: the Wooters concurrence and the mutual quantum information. We are able to detect four spectral sets in each parity subspace of the model: one set is regular and given by the product of a Fock state of the field times the singlet Bell state of the qubits; the rest are fairly regular and related to the triplet states of the Bell basis. The singlet states become trapping states when we couple the Dicke model to an environment of harmonic oscillators, making them candid…
We propose a method for generating a spin-squeezed state that is a symmetric Dicke state, with trapped ions using only global access. The eigenstates of the ions under a strong dressing field become symmetric Dicke states and the M$ø$lmer--S$ø$rensen interaction selectively couples one of them to an initially populated auxiliary state. A $\mid D_{2n}^n>$ state, which is maximally spin squeezed, can be generated with high fidelity using only square pulses. Using an adiabatic technique, the ideal maximally spin-squeezed state is generated.
The average entanglement entropy (EE) of the energy eigenstates in non-vanishing partitions has been recently proposed as a diagnostic of integrability in quantum many-body systems. For it to be a faithful characterization of quantum integrability, it should distinguish quantum systems with a well-defined classical limit in the same way as the unequivocal classical integrability criteria. We examine the proposed diagnostic in the class of collective spin models characterized by permutation symmetry in the spins. The well-known Lipkin-Meshov-Glick (LMG) model is a paradigmatic integrable system…
Entanglement constitutes a main feature that distinguishes quantum from classical physics and is a key resource of quantum technologies. Here we show, however, that entanglement may also serve as the essential ingredient for the emergence of classical behavior in a composite nonlinear radiating system. We consider the radiation from a macroscopic spin emitter, such as the collective radiation from an atomic ensemble. We introduce a new class of macroscopic spin states, the coherently radiating spin states (CRSS), defined as the asymptotic eigenstates of the SU(2) lowering operator. We find tha…
Nonlinear coherent states are an interesting resource for quantum technologies. Here we investigate some critical features of the single-boson nonlinear coherent states, which are theoretically constructed as eigenstates of the annihilation operator and experimentally realized as stationary states of a trapped laser-driven ion. We show that the coherence and the minimum-uncertainty properties of such states are broken for values of the Lamb-Dicke parameter corresponding to the roots of the Laguerre polynomials, which enter their explicit expression. The case of the multiboson nonlinear coheren…
In a classically chaotic system that is ergodic, any trajectory will be arbitrarily close to any point of the available phase space after a long time, filling it uniformly. Using Born's rules to connect quantum states with probabilities, one might then expect that all quantum states in the chaotic regime should be uniformly distributed in phase space. This simplified picture was shaken by the discovery of quantum scarring, where some eigenstates are concentrated along unstable periodic orbits. Despite of that, it is widely accepted that most eigenstates of chaotic models are indeed ergodic. Ou…
As the name indicates, a periodic orbit is a solution for a dynamical system that repeats itself in time. In the regular regime, periodic orbits are stable, while in the chaotic regime, they become unstable. The presence of unstable periodic orbits is directly associated with the phenomenon of quantum scarring, which restricts the degree of delocalization of the eigenstates and leads to revivals in the dynamics. Here, we study the Dicke model in the superradiant phase and identify two sets of fundamental periodic orbits. This experimentally realizable atom-photon model is regular at low energi…
Magnetic molecules, modelled as finite-size spin systems, are test-beds for quantum phenomena and could constitute key elements in future spintronics devices, long-lasting nanoscale memories or noise-resilient quantum computing platforms. Inelastic neutron scattering is the technique of choice to probe them, characterizing molecular eigenstates on atomic scales. However, although large magnetic molecules can be controllably synthesized, simulating their dynamics and interpreting spectroscopic measurements is challenging because of the exponential scaling of the required resources on a classica…
The interplay between interaction, disorder, and dissipation has shown a rich phenomenology. Here we investigate a disordered XXZ spin chain in contact with a bath which, alone, would drive the system towards a highly delocalized and coherent Dicke state. We show that there exist regimes for which the natural orbitals of the single-particle density matrix of the steady state are all localized in the presence of strong disorders, either for weak interaction or strong interaction. We show that the averaged steady-state occupation in the eigenbasis of the open system Hamiltonian could follow an e…
Spin squeezing - a central resource for quantum metrology - can be generated via the non-linear, entangling evolution of an initially factorized spin state. Here we show that robust (i.e. persistent) squeezing dynamics is generated by a very large class of $S=1/2$ spin Hamiltonians with axial symmetry, in relationship with the existence of a peculiar structure of the low-lying Hamiltonian eigenstates - the so-called Anderson's tower of states. Such states are fundamentally related to the appearance of spontaneous symmetry breaking in quantum systems; and, for models with sufficiently high conn…
