Applying the perturbative approach to geodesic equations, we study motion of the test particles in time-dependent spherically symmetric spacetimes created by oscillating dark matter. Assuming the weakness of the gravitational field, we derive general formulas that describe infinite trajectories of the test particles and determine the total deflection angle in the leading order approximation. The obtained formulas are valid for both time-dependent and static matter configurations. Using these results, we calculate the deflection angle of a test particle passing through a spherically symmetric oscillating distribution of a self-gravitating scalar field with a logarithmic potential. It turned out that, in a wide range of amplitudes, oscillations in the deflection angle are sinusoidal and become small for ultrarelativistic particles.
We investigate numerically the process of the passage of a radiation pulse through a wormhole and the subsequent evolution of the wormhole that is caused by the gravitational action of this pulse. The initial static wormhole is modeled by the spherically symmetrical Armendariz-Picon solution with zero mass. The radiation pulses are modeled by spherically symmetrical shells of self-gravitating massless scalar fields. We demonstrate that the compact signal propagates through the wormhole and investigate the dynamics of the fields in this process for both cases: collapse of the wormhole into the …
Using the geodesic method and the perturbative approach, we study the deflection of light by time-periodic spherically symmetric gravitational fields. Assuming the weakness of the gravitational field, we derive general formulas that determine the deflection angle in the leading order approximation. The formulas are valid for both time-periodic and static metrics. Using these results, we calculate the deflection angle of a light ray passing through a spherically symmetric oscillating distribution of a self-gravitating scalar field with a logarithmic potential. It turned out that in this case th…
Numerical evidence is given that spherically symmetric perturbations of stable spherically symmetric steady states of the gravitational Vlasov-Poisson system lead to solutions which oscillate in time. The oscillations can be periodic in time or damped. Along one-parameter families of polytropic steady states we establish an Eddington-Ritter type relation which relates the period of the oscillation to the central density of the steady state. The numerically obtained periods are used to estimate possible periods for typical elliptical galaxies.
Static, spherically symmetric solutions of the Yang-Mills-Dilaton theory are studied. It is shown that these solutions fall into three different classes. The generic solutions are singular. Besides there is a discrete set of globally regular solutions further distinguished by the number of nodes of their Yang-Mills potential. The third class consists of oscillating solutions playing the role of limits of regular solutions, when the number of nodes tends to infinity. We show that all three sets of solutions are non-empty. Furthermore we give asymptotic formulae for the parameters of regular sol…
We study the dynamics of a spherically symmetric thin shell of perfect fluid embedded in d-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space-time. In global coordinates, besides collapsing solutions, oscillating solutions are found where the shell bounces back and forth between two radii. The parameter space where these oscillating solutions exist is scanned in arbitrary number of dimensions. As expected AdS3 appears to be singled out.
We study standard Einstein-Maxwell theory minimally coupled to a complex valued and self-interacting scalar field. We demonstrate that new, previously unnoticed spherically symmetric, charged black hole solutions with scalar hair exist in this model for sufficiently large gravitational coupling and sufficiently small electromagnetic coupling. The novel scalar hair has the form of a spatially oscillating ''wave packet'' and back-reacts on the space-time such that both the Ricci and the Kretschmann scalar, respectively, possess qualitatively similar oscillations.
We study the dominant late-time behaviors of massive scalar fields in static and spherically symmetric spacetimes. Considering the field evolution in the far zone where the gravitational field is weak, we show under which conditions the massive field oscillates with an amplitude that decays slowly as $t^{-5/6}$ at very late times, as previously found in (say) the Schwarzschild case. Our conclusion is that this long-lived oscillating tail is generally observed at timelike infinity in black hole spacetimes, while it may not be able to survive if the central object is a normal star. We also discu…
In this paper we describe a model of a four-dimensional spherically symmetric black hole in a limiting curvature theory of gravity. In this theory the Einstein-Hilbert action is modified by adding to the action terms providing inequality constraints on chosen curvature invariants. We demonstrated that in such a model, instead of formation of the curvature singularity, the spacetime remains regular in the black hole interior. For black holes with gravitational radius much larger than the radius $\ell$ of the critical curvature the obtained solutions describe a space exponentially expanding in o…
We present new accretion solutions of a polytropic perfect fluid onto an f(R)-gravity de Sitter-like black hole. We consider two f(R)-gravity models and obtain finite-period cyclic flows oscillating between the event and cosmological horizons as well as semi-cyclic critical flows executing a two-way motion from and back to the same horizon. Besides the generalizations and new solutions presented in this work, a corrigendum to Eur. Phys. J. C (2016) 76:280 is provided.
The time evolution of self-interacting spherically symmetric scalar fields in Minkowski spacetime is investigated based on the use of Green's theorem. It is shown that a massive Klein-Gordon field can be characterized by the formation of certain expanding shell structures where all the shells are built up by very high frequency oscillations. This oscillation is found to be modulated by the product of a simple time decaying factor of the form $t^{-{3}/{2}}$ and of an essentially self-similar expansion. Apart from this self-similar expansion the developed shell structure is preserved by the evol…
The gravitational frequency shift of light signals from the center of a spherically symmetric non-static matter distribution is considered. Explicit formulas for the ratio of the emitted and received frequencies are obtained in the case of the oscillating scalar dark matter with logarithmic potential.
We examine the spectrum of a massive scalar particle interacting with the strong gravitational field of a static, spherically symmetric object which is not quite massive enough to be a black hole. As was found in the case of massless particles, there exists a dense spectrum of long lived resonances (meta-stable states), which leads to an energy-averaged cross section for particle capture which approaches the absorption cross-section for a Schwarzschild black hole. However, the generalisation to non-zero mass introduces new phenomena, along with important qualitative changes to the scattering p…
Local solutions of the static, spherically symmetric Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) equations with SU(2) gauge group are studied on the basis of dynamical systems methods. This approach enables us to classify EYM solutions in the origin neighborhood, to prove the existence of solutions with the oscillating metric as well as the existence of local solutions for all known formal power series expansions, to study the extendibility of solutions, and to find two new local singular solutions.
Spherically symmetric gravitationally bound, oscillating scalar lumps (boson stars and oscillatons) are considered in Einstein's gravity coupled to massive scalar fields in 1+D dimensional de Sitter-type inflationary space-times. We show that due to inflation bosons stars and oscillatons lose mass through scalar radiation, but at a rate that is exponentially small when the expansion rate is slow.

We study a self-interacting scalar field theory coupled to gravity and are interested in spherically symmetric solutions with a regular origin surrounded by a horizon. For a scalar potential containing a barrier, and using the most general spherically symmetric ansatz, we show that in addition to the known static, oscillating solutions discussed earlier in the literature there exist new classes of solutions which appear in the strong field case. For these solutions the spatial sphere shrinks either beyond the horizon, implying a collapsing universe outside of the cosmological horizon, or it sh…
We study quasinormal modes and scattering properties via calculation of the $S$-matrix for scalar and electromagnetic fields propagating in the background of spherically and axially symmetric, traversable Lorentzian wormholes of a generic shape. Such wormholes are described by the Morris-Thorne ansatz and its axially symmetric generalization. The properties of quasinormal ringing and scattering are shown to be determined by the behavior of the wormhole's shape function $b(r)$ and shift factor $Φ(r)$ near the throat. In particular, wormholes with the shape function $b(r)$, such that $b'(r) \app…
We develop the large $D$ limit of general relativity for spherically symmetric scalar fields in both asymptotically flat and asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces. The leading order equations in the $1/D$ expansion can be solved analytically, providing a large $D$ description of oscillating soliton stars. When the amplitude reaches a critical threshold, certain divergences occur which we interpret as signal of horizon formation. We estimate the size of the resulting black hole and obtain, with respect to that definition, a Choptuik scaling exponent for our family of solutions.
Suppose General Relativity, provocatively governed by a dimensional coupling constant, is a spontaneously induced theory of Gravity. Invoking Zee's mechanism, we represent the reciprocal Newton constant by a Brans Dicke scalar field, and let it damped oscillating towards its General Relativistic VEV. The corresponding cosmological evolution, in the Jordan frame, averagely resembles the familiar dark radiation -> dark matter -> dark energy domination sequence. The fingerprints of the theory are fine ripples, hopefully testable, in the FRW scale factor; they die away at the strict General Relati…
Recently there has been interest in the physical properties of dark matter axion condensates. Due to gravitational attraction and self-interactions, they can organize into spatial localized clumps, whose properties were examined by us in Refs. [1, 2]. Since the axion condensate is coherently oscillating, it can conceivably lead to parametric resonance of photons, leading to exponential growth in photon occupancy number and subsequent radio wave emission. We show that while resonance always exists for spatially homogeneous condensates, its existence for a spatially localized clump condensate de…
Oscillatons are spherically symmetric solutions to the Einstein Klein Gordon (EKG) equations for soliton stars made of real time dependent scalar fields. These equations are non singular and satisfy flatness conditions asymptotically with periodic time dependency. In this paper, we investigate the geodesic motion of particles moving around an oscillaton related to a time dependent scalar field. Bound orbital is found for these particles under the condition of particular values of angular momentum L and initial radial position. We discuss this topic for an exponential scalar field potential whi…
