In this paper, we defined two new games - the mildly Menger game and the compact-clopen game. In a zero-dimensional space, the Menger game is equivalent to the mildly Menger game and the compact-open game is equivalent to the compact-clopen game. An example is given for a space on which the mildly Menger game is undetermined. Also we introduced a new game namely K-quasi-component-clopen game and proved that this game is equivalent to the compact-clopen game. Then we proved that if a topological space is a union of countably many quasi-components of compact sets, then TWO has a winning strategy in the mildly Menger game.
By adapting techniques of Arhangel'skii, Barman, and Dow, we may equate the existence of perfect-information, Markov, and tactical strategies between two interesting selection games. These results shed some light on Gruenhage's question asking whether all strategically selectively separable spaces are Markov selectively separable.
We provide conceptual proofs of the two most fundamental theorems concerning topological games and open covers: Hurewicz's Theorem concerning the Menger game, and Pawlikowski's Theorem concerning the Rothberger game.
This work presents proofs for Hurewicz's and Pawlikowski's Theorems about topological games in the context of lattices, in which one cannot argue with points.
In this paper we study connections between topological games such as Rothberger, Menger and compact-open, and relate these games to properties involving covers by G_δ subsets. The results include: (1) If Two has a winning strategy in the Menger game on a regular space X, then X is an Alster space. (2) If Two has a winning strategy in the Rothberger game on a topological space X, then the G_δ-topology on X is Lindelof. (3) The Menger game and the compact-open game are (consistently) not dual.
We prove that in any Hausdorff space, the Rothberger game is equivalent to the $k$-Rothberger game, i.e. the game in which player II chooses $k$ open sets in each move. This result follows from a more general theorem in which we show these games are equivalent to a game we call the restricted Menger game. In this game I knows immediately in advance of playing each open cover how many open sets II will choose from that open cover. This result illuminates the relationship between the Rothberger and Menger games in Hausdorff spaces. The equivalence of these games answers a question posed by Auric…
The main purpose of the paper is the proof of a cardinal inequality for a space with points $G_δ$, obtained with the help of a long version of the Menger game. This result improves a similar one of Scheepers and Tall.
In this paper, we prove the following Theorems 1. An extremally disconnected space $X$ has the semi-Menger property if and only if One does not have a winning strategy in the game $G_{fin}(sO,sO)$. 2. An extremally disconnected space $X$ has the semi-Rothberger property if and only if One does not have a winning strategy in the game $G_1(sO,sO)$.
We prove that if X is a separable metric space with the Hurewicz covering property, then the Banach-Mazur game played on X is determined. The implication is not true when "Hurewicz covering property" is replaced with "Menger covering property".
We explore the connections between selection games on Hausdorff spaces and their corresponding Vietoris space of compact subsets. These considerations offer a similar relationship as the well-known relationship between $ω$-covers of $X$ and regular open covers of the finite powers of $X$. The primary utility of this method is to establish similar relationships with $k$-covers and the Vietoris space of compact subsets. Particularly, we show that some commonly studied selection principles are equivalent to a related hyperspace being Menger or Rothberger. We then apply these equivalences to corre…
We investigate game-theoretic properties of selection principles related to weaker forms of the Menger and Rothberger properties. For appropriate spaces some of these selection principles are characterized in terms of a corresponding game. We use generic extensions by Cohen reals to illustrate the necessity of some of the hypotheses in our theorems.
In this paper we connect selection principles on a topological space to corresponding selection principles on one of its hyperspaces. We unify techniques and generalize theorems from the known results about selection principles for common hyperspace constructions. This includes results of Lj.D.R. Kočinac, Z. Li, and others. We use selection games to generalize selection principles and we work with strategies of various strengths for these games. The selection games we work with are primarily abstract versions of the selection principles of Rothberger, Menger, and Hurewicz type, as well as game…
Never has an issue of the SPM Bulletin contained as much interesting information as this issue does. In addition to the interesting research announcements, this issue contains announcements of solutions for three open problems, one of which being a Problem of the Month in an earlier issue. Whereas the Gerlits-Nagy gamma-property is strictly weaker than the Galvin-Miller strong gamma-property, the corresponding strong notions for the Menger, Hurewicz, Rothberger, Gerlits-Nagy (*), Arkhangel'skii and Sakai properties are equivalent to the original ones. The main result is that almost each of these properties admits the game theoretic characterization suggested by the stronger notion. We also solve a related problem of Kocinac and Scheepers, and answer a question of Iliadis.
