We analyze the $^{16}{\rm C}+p$ and $^{16}{\rm C}+d$ reactions within the four- and five-body Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel (CDCC) method. The $^{16}$C nucleus is described by a $^{14}{\rm C}+n+n$ configuration in hyperspherical coordinates. This description reproduces fairly well several $^{16}$C low-lying states. First we analyze the $2^+\rightarrow 0^+$ $E2$ transition amplitude, which confirms that an effective charge must be introduced to reproduce the experimental value. Then, proton and deuteron elastic and inelastic scattering are investigated by including $^{16}$C pseudostates, which simulate the $^{14}{\rm C}+n+n$ continuum. In $^{16}{\rm C}+d$, the deuteron breakup is taken into account with $p+n$ two-body pseudostates. A fair agreement with experiment is obtained without any fitting parameter. Breakup effects are in general small, but improve the agreement with experiment.
We present a novel method of smoothing discrete breakup cross sections calculated by the method of continuum-discretized coupled-channels. The method based on the complex scaling method is tested with success for $^{58}$Ni($d$, $pn$) reaction at 80 MeV as an example of a three-body breakup reaction, and applied to $^{12}$C($^6$He, $nn^4$He) reaction at 229.8 MeV as a typical example of a four-body breakup reaction. The new method does not need to derive continuum states of the projectile in order to evaluate the breakup cross section as a smooth factor of the excitation energy of the projectil…
We present a method for smoothing discrete breakup $S$-matrix elements calculated by the method of continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC). This smoothing method makes it possible to apply CDCC to four-body breakup reactions. The reliability of the smoothing method is confirmed for two cases, $^{58}$Ni($d$, $p n$) at 80 MeV and the $E1$ transition of $^6$He. We apply CDCC with the smoothing method to $^6$He breakup reaction at 22.5 MeV. Multi-step breakup processes are found to be important.
We study the postacceleration of charged fragments in reactions with unstable nuclear beams. For elastic breakup processes we show that the postaceleration effect can be well understood in terms of closed analytical forms derived in a quantum mechanical formulation. This gives theoretical support to the effect experimentally observed in the breakup of Li-11 projectiles at intermediate energies.
Comparing the capture cross sections calculated without the breakup effect and experimental complete fusion cross sections, the breakup was analyzed in reactions with weakly bound projectiles $^{6,7,9}$Li, $^{9,11}$Be, and $^{6,8}$He. A trend of a systematic behavior for the complete fusion suppression as a function of the target charge and bombarding energy is not achieved. The quasielastic backscattering is suggested to be an useful tool to study the behavior of the breakup probability in reactions with weakly bound projectiles.
We develop a three body classical trajectory Monte Carlo (CTMC) method to dicsuss the effect of the breakup process on heavy-ion fusion reactions induced by weakly bound nuclei. This method follows the classical trajectories of breakup fragments after the breakup takes place, and thus provides an unambiguous separation between complete and incomplete fusion cross sections. Applying this method to the fusion reaction $^{6}$Li + $^{209}$Bi, we find that there is a significant contribution to the total complete fusion cross sections from the process where all the breakup fragments are captured by…
In the paper the so-called modified Yamaguchi function for the Bethe-Salpeter equation with a separable kernel is discussed. The type of the functions is defined by the analytic stucture of the hadron current with breakup - the reactions with interacting nucleon-nucleon pair in the final state (electro-, photo-, and nucleon-disintegration of the deuteron).
Application of the absorbing boundary condition is discussed to analyse breakup reactions of weakly bound nuclei. The key ingredient is an introduction of the absorbing potential outside the physical area which simulates the outgoing boundary condition approximately. The scattering problem is then recasted into the Schroedinger like equation with a source term in the interaction region and with the vanishing boundary condition at the boundary. We demonstrate usefulness of the method taking a few examples. Deuteron breakup reactions are examined comparing present results with those by the conti…
The problem of the calculation of inclusive breakup cross sections in nuclear reactions is reexamined. For that purpose, the post-form theory proposed by Ichimura, Austern and Vincent [Phys. Rev. C32, 431 (1985) is revisited, and an alternative derivation of the non-elastic breakup part of the inclusive breakup is presented, making use of the coupled-channels optical theorem. Using the DWBA version of this model, several applications to deuteron and $^6$Li reactions are presented and compared with available data. The validity of the zero-range approximation of the DWBA formula is also investig…
We address the problem of the post-prior equivalence in inclusive breakup reactions induced by weakly-bound nuclei. The problem is studied within the DWBA model of Ichimura, Austern, Vincent [Phys. Rev. C32, 431 (1985)]. The post and prior formulas obtained in this model are briefly recalled, and applied to several breakup reactions induced by deuterons and $^6$Li projectiles, to test their actual numerical equivalence. The different contributions of the prior-form formula are also discussed. A critical comparison with the prior-form distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) model of Udagawa an…
We develop a four-body model for the inclusive breakup of two-fragment halo projectiles colliding with two-fragment targets. In the case of a short lived projectiles, such as halo nuclei, on a deuteron target, the model allows the extraction of the neutron capture cross section of such projectiles. We supply examples.
The breakup of the radioactive 17F nucleus into a proton and 16O is studied for the reaction 17F + 208Pb --> p + 16O + 208Pb at 65 MeV/nucleon. The possibility of using this reaction as a test case for studying dynamical Coulomb reacceleration effects is assessed. It is shown that the reaction is dominated by elastic nuclear breakup (diffraction dissociation).
We describe a reaction mechanism which is consistent with all available experimental information of high energy three-body breakup processes. The dominating channels are removal of one of the three halo particles leaving the other two either undisturbed or absorbed. We compare with the commonly used deceptive assumption of a decay through two-body resonance states. Our predictions can be tested by measuring neutron-neutron invariant mass spectra.
We calculate the nuclear induced breakup of Be11 and B8 using a more realistic treatment of the diffraction and stripping processes than in previous work. The breakup is treated in the eikonal approximation with a profile function calculated from a realistic optical potential at low energies and from free nucleon-nucleon cross sections at high energies. This treatment gives a good description of measured breakup cross sections, as well as the longitudinal momentum distribution of the core-like fragments, which is narrower than predicted in the transparent limit. The real part of the potential …
Some commonly used approximations for complete fusion and breakup transmission coefficients in collisions of weakly bound projectiles at near barrier energies are assessed. We show that they strongly depend on the adopted classical trajectory and can be significantly improved with proper treatment of the incident and emergent currents in the WKB approximation.
Absorbing boundary condition approach to nuclear breakup reactions is investigated. A key ingredient of the method is an absorbing potential outside the physical area, which simulates the outgoing boundary condition for scattered waves. After discretizing the radial variables, the problem results in a linear algebraic equation with a sparse coefficient matrix, to which efficient iterative methods can be applicable. No virtual state such as discretized continuum channel needs to be introduced in the method. Basic aspects of the method are discussed by considering a nuclear two-body scattering p…
The integral relations formalism introduced in \cite{bar09,rom11}, and designed to describe 1+$N$ reactions, is extended here to collision energies above the threshold for the target breakup. These two relations are completely general, and in this work they are used together with the adiabatic expansion method for the description of 1+2 reactions. The neutron-deuteron breakup, for which benchmark calculations are available, is taken as a test of the method. The s-wave collision between the $^4$He atom and $^4$He$_2$ dimer above the breakup threshold and the possibility of using soft-core two-b…
The sensitivity of elastic breakup to the interior of the projectile wave function is analyzed. Breakup calculations of loosely bound nuclei (8B and 11Be) are performed with two different descriptions of the projectile. The descriptions differ strongly in the interior of the wave function, but exhibit identical asymptotic properties, namely the same asymptotic normalization coefficient, and phase shifts. Breakup calculations are performed at intermediate energies (40-70 MeV/nucleon) on lead and carbon targets as well as at low energy (26 MeV) on a nickel target. No dependence on the projectile…
We investigated three-nucleon (3N) force effects in the final state interaction (FSI) configuration of the d(n, nn)p breakup reaction at the incoming nucleon energy E n = 200 MeV. Although 3N force effects for the elastic nucleon-deuteron scattering cross section at comparable energies are located predominantly in the region of intermediate and backward angles, the corresponding 3N force effects for the integrated FSI configuration breakup cross section are found also at forward scattering angles.
We discuss deuteron $A(d,p)X$ breakup and cumulative pion production $A(d,π)X$ in the framework of constituent quark model of the deuteron. We demonstrate that consideration of the Pauli principle at the quark level, as well as multiple scattering, affect drastically cross section and polarization observables of these reactions and provide good description of the experimental data.
An analysis of the elastic and one-neutron removal channel for the reaction 8Li+208Pb reaction at energies around the Coulomb barrier is presented. For the elastic scattering, an optical model analysis of the experimental data is performed. The observed 7Li is interpreted as the superposition of the one-neutron transfer reaction, 208Pb(8Li,7Li)209Pb, and the breakup reaction. The separate contribution of each one of these processes has been calculated within the DWBA formalism. The sum of both contributions explains adequately the experimental angular distribution of 7Li.
Reaction theory is an essential ingredient when performing studies of nuclei far from stability. One approach for the calculation of breakup reactions of exotic nuclei into two fragments is to consider inelastic excitations into the single particle continuum of the projectile. Alternatively one can also consider the transfer to the continuum of a system composed of the light fragment and the target. In this work we make a comparative study of the two approaches, underline the different inputs, and identify the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. Our test cases consist of the breakup…
A theoretical model able to describe fragmentation reactions of three--body halo nuclei on different targets, from light to heavy, is used to compute neutron and core momentum distributions. Both Coulomb and nuclear interactions are simultaneously included. We specify the different reaction mechanisms related to various processes. The method is applied to fragmentation of $^6$He and $^{11}$Li on C and Pb. We find good agreement with the available experimental results.
We discuss the quasi-adiabatic approximations to the three-body wavefunction in breakup processes, clarifying the assumptions underlying the model. This suggests alternative approximation schemes. Using different theoretical three-body models, calculated differential cross section angular distributions for the Be-11(p,d) reaction, for which new preliminary data have been reported at 35 MeV, are presented. We show that calculations are sensitive to the inclusion of deuteron breakup and to the breakup model used, particularly if used to deduce absolute spectroscopic information on the 0{+} and 2{…
Background: One-neutron removal reactions are used to study the single-particle structure of unstable nuclei, and in particular the exotic halo nuclei. The Eikonal Reaction Theory (ERT) has been developed by Yahiro, Ogata and Minomo in Prog. Theor. Phys. 126, 167 (2011) to include dynamical effects, which are missing in the usual eikonal description of these reactions. Encouraging results have been obtained for total breakup cross sections in comparison to more elaborate reaction models. Purpose: We extend these comparisons to more differential breakup cross sections expressed as functions of …
We propose a new method to describe three-body breakups of nuclei, in which the Lippmann-Schwinger equation is solved combining with the complex scaling method. The complex-scaled solutions of the Lippmann-Schwinger equation (CSLS) enables us to treat boundary conditions of many-body open channels correctly and to describe a many-body breakup amplitude from the ground state. The Coulomb breakup cross section from the 6He ground state into 4He+n+n three-body decaying states as a function of the total excitation energy is calculated by using CSLS, and the result well reproduces the experimental …
The reactions of nucleon and polarized deuteron scattered off a heavy target at large impact parameter with intermediate energies have been investigated by using the improved quantum molecular dynamics model. It is found that, due to the difference effect of isovector potential on proton and neutron, there is a significant difference between the angle distribution of elastic scattering protons and neutrons. To overcome the lack of monochromatic neutron beam, the reaction of polarized deuteron peripherally scattered off the heavy target is used to replace the reaction of individual proton and n…
Models for the description of breakup reactions used to study the structure of exotic cluster structures like halos are reviewed. The sensitivity of these models to the projectile description is presented. Calculations are sensitive to the projectile ground state mostly through its asymptotic normalisation coefficient (ANC). They also probe the continuum of the projectile. This enables studying not only the bound states of the projectile but also its continuum, both resonant and non-resonant. This opens the possibility to study correlations between both halo neutrons in two-neutron halo nuclei…
The breakup cross sections in the reaction $^6$He+$^{12}$C are calculated at about 40 MeV/nucleon using the high-energy approximation (HEA) and with the help of microscopic optical potentials (OP) of interaction with the target nucleus $^{12}$C of the projectile nucleus fragments $^4$He and 2n. Considering the di-neutron $h$=2n as a single particle the relative motion $hα$ wave function is estimated so that to explain both the separation energy of $h$ in $^6$He and the rms radius of the latter. The stripping and absorbtion total cross sections are calculated and their sum is compared with the …
A self-contained Fortran-90 program based on a classical trajectory model with stochastic breakup is presented, which should be a powerful tool for quantifying complete and incomplete fusion, and breakup in reactions induced by weakly-bound two-body projectiles near the Coulomb barrier. The code calculates complete and incomplete fusion cross sections and their angular momentum distribution, as well as breakup observables (angle, kinetic energy and relative energy distributions).
The Coulomb interaction between the two protons is included in the calculation of proton-deuteron breakup and of three-body electromagnetic disintegration of ${}^3\mathrm{He}$. The hadron dynamics is based on the purely nucleonic charge-dependent (CD) Bonn potential and its realistic extension CD Bonn + $Δ$ to a coupled-channel two-baryon potential, allowing for single virtual $Δ$-isobar excitation. Calculations are done using integral equations in momentum space. The screening and renormalization approach is employed for including the Coulomb interaction. Convergence of the procedure is found…
We review the current status of obtaining the spectroscopic information on the one-neutron halo nuclei from the Coulomb breakup reactions. The theory of these reactions formulated in the framework of the Distorted Wave Born Approximation, allows the use of the realistic wave functions corresponding to any orbital angular momentum structure for the core-valence neutron relative motion in the ground state of the projectile. The energy, angular and parallel momentum distributions of the projectile fragments calculated within this theory are selective about the ground state wave function of the pr…
We investigate the sensitivity of the non-exclusive nucleon induced deuteron breakup reaction to the three-nucleon interaction and distributions of three-nucleon force effects in inclusive spectra. To this end we solve the three-nucleon Faddeev equation at a number of incoming nucleon laboratory energies using the CD Bonn nucleon-nucleon interaction alone or combined with the 2π-exchange Tucson-Melbourne three-nucleon force. Based on these solutions energy spectra of an outgoing nucleon, at a specified detection angle as well as spectra integrated over that angle, are calculated. By integratin…
Breakup reactions are one of the favored probes to study loosely bound nuclei, particularly those in the limit of stability forming a halo. In order to interpret such breakup experiments, the continuum discretized coupled channel method is typically used. In this study, the first Bayesian analysis of a breakup reaction model is performed. We use a combination of statistical methods together with a three-body reaction model (the continuum discretized coupled channel method) to quantify the uncertainties on the breakup observables due to the parameters in the effective potential describing the l…
Use of deuteron-induced spallation reactions at intermediate energies has recently been proposed for transmutation of several long-lived fission products (LLFPs). In the design study of a transmutation system using a deuteron primary beam, accurate cross section data of deuteron-induced reactions on the LLFPs are indispensable. Reliable model predictions play an important role in completing the necessary cross section data since currently available experimental data are very limited. Under the circumstances, we have been developing a code system dedicated for deuteron-induced reactions, which …
Given the Astrophysical interest of $^7$Be$(p,γ)^8$B, there have been several experiments applying the Coulomb dissociation method for extracting the capture rate. Measurements at Michigan State are dominated by $E1$ contributions but have a small $E2$ component. On the other hand, a lower energy measurement at Notre Dame has a much stronger $E2$ contribution. The expectation was that the two measurements would tie down the $E2$ and thus allow for an accurate extraction of the $E1$ relevant for the capture process. The aim of this brief report is to show that the $E2$ factor in breakup reactio…
Breakup reactions are one of the main tools for the study of exotic nuclei, and in particular of their continuum. In order to get valuable information from measurements, a precise reaction model coupled to a fair description of the projectile is needed. We assume that the projectile initially possesses a cluster structure, which is revealed by the dissociation process. This structure is described by a few-body Hamiltonian involving effective forces between the clusters. Within this assumption, we review various reaction models. In semiclassical models, the projectile-target relative motion is …
Development of the method of CDCC (Continuum-Discretized Coupled-Channels) from the level of three-body CDCC to that of four-body CDCC is reviewed. Introduction of the pseudo-state method based on the Gaussian expansion method for discretizing the continuum states of two-body and three-body projectiles plays an essential role in the development. Furthermore, introduction of the complex-range Gaussian basis functions is important to improve the CDCC for nuclear breakup so as to accomplish that for Coulomb and nuclear breakup. A successful application of the four-body CDCC to $^6$He+$^{12}$C sca…
Calculations of inclusive $α$ particle production are performed to interpret reaction experimental data induced by the two-neutron halo $^6$He and the isotopes $^{6,7}$Li on different target nuclei. We have implemented the zero-range post-form DWBA to compute the elastic and nonelastic breakup cross sections. Integrated cross sections, angular distributions and spectra are presented. Projectiles are approximated as two-body clusters, namely $^6$He as $α$+dineutron and $^{6}$Li ($^{7}$Li) interpreted as $α$+deuteron(triton). The São Paulo optical potential is employed in the calculation of the …
The elastic and alpha-production channels for the 6He+208Pb reaction are investigated at energies around the Coulomb barrier (E_{lab}=14, 16, 18, 22, and 27 MeV). The effect of the two-neutron transfer channels on the elastic scattering has been studied within the Coupled-Reaction-Channels (CRC) method. We find that the explicit inclusion of these channels allows a simultaneous description of the elastic data and the inclusive alpha cross sections at backward angles. Three-body Continuum-Discretized Coupled-Channels (CDCC) calculations are found to reproduce the elastic data, but not the trans…
We propose a simple schematic model for two-neutron halo nuclei. In this model, the two valence neutrons move in a one-dimensional mean field, interacting with each other via a density-dependent contact interaction. We first investigate the ground state properties, and demonstrate that the dineutron correlation can be realized with this simple model due to the admixture of even- and odd-parity single-particle states. We then solve the time-dependent two-particle Schrödinger equation under the influence of a time-dependent one-body external field, in order to discuss the effect of dineutron cor…
Recent developments on the understanding of low energy reactions are highlighted. Emphasis is given to the CDCC framework where the breakup channels of the projectile are included explicitly. Properties of the breakup couplings are presented. Comments are given with regard to the separation between the nuclear and the Coulomb contributions to breakup cross sections as well as the dependence on the optical potentials. A discussion on the sensitivity of the CDCC basis is discussed, by comparing pure breakup results with transfer to the continuum calculations. Finally, some remaining controversie…
An isoscalar $pn$ pair is expected to emerge in nuclei that have similar proton and neutron numbers and it may be a candidate for a deuteron ``cluster.'' There is, however, no experimental evidence for it. The purpose of this paper is to construct a new reaction model for the ($p,pd$) reaction including the deuteron breakup in the elementary process and the deuteron reformation by the final-state interactions (FSIs). How these processes contribute to the observables of the reaction is investigated. The distorted wave impulse approximation is extended in twofold. The elementary processes of the…
The calculated rate of events in some of the existing solar neutrino detectors is directly proportional to the rate of the $^7$Be($p,γ)^8$B reaction measured in the laboratory at low energies. However, the low-energy cross sections of this reaction are quite uncertain as various measurements differ from each other by 30-40 %. The Coulomb dissociation process which reverses the radiative capture by the dissociation of $^8$B in the Coulomb field of a target, provides an alternate way of accessing this reaction. While this method has several advantages (like large breakup cross sections and flexi…
In 1985, Hussein and McVoy [Nuc. Phys. A445 (1985) 124] elucidated a formula for the evaluation of the nonelastic breakup ("stripping") contribution in inclusive breakup reactions. The formula, based on the spectator core model, acquires a particularly simple and appealing form in the eikonal limit, to the extent that it has become the standard procedure to analyze single-nucleon knockout reactions at intermediate energies. In this contribution, a critical assessment of this formula is presented and its connection with other, noneikonal expressions discussed. Some calculations comparing the di…
We have studied the transfer reaction $^{14}$N($^7$Be,$^8$B)$^{13}$C at (\mathrm{E}_{\mathrm{lab}}=84) MeV, paying special attention to the effects of the coupling to the continuum in the exit channel. Using the Continuum Discretized Coupled Channels (CDCC) formalism, we find that these effects are important for the description of the elastic scattering observables. However, for the transfer process, differences between the predictions of the differential cross section within the Distorted Wave Born Approximation (DWBA) and the CDCC-Born approximation (CDCC-BA) are found to be negligible. This…
This is a brief review of recent experimental and theoretical works aiming at extracting spectroscopic information from quasielasic projectile breakup reactions at intermediate energies.
The breakup of $^8$B on $^{58}$Ni below the Coulomb barrier was measured recently with the aim of determining the Coulomb breakup components. We reexamine this reaction, and perform one step quantum-mechanical calculations that include E1, E2 and nuclear contributions. We show that the nuclear contribution is by no means negligible at the intermediate angular range where data was taken. Our results indicate that, for an accurate description of this reaction, Coulomb E1, E2 and nuclear processes all have to be taken into account.
In this paper we study the energy spectra and related parallel momentum distributions of the neutrons from the breakup of 11Be. Earlier papers on transfer to the continuum reactions have shown that the breakup amplitude reduces to a simple eikonal approximation in the limit of weakly bound projectiles. The aim is to establish a reliable method to obtain information on the structure of the halo from the experimental results which depend on the reaction mechanism. Theoretical results for the widths of the parallel momentum distributions and for the total breakup cross section are compared to rec…
The open issues in the development of models for the breakup of exotic nuclei and the link with the extraction of structure information from experimental data are reviewed. The question of the improvement of the description of exotic nuclei within reaction models is approached in the perspective of previous analyses of the sensitivity of these models to that description. Future developments of reaction models are suggested, such as the inclusion of various channels within one model. The search for new reaction observables that can emphasise more details of exotic nuclear structure is also prop…
We present a theory of one-neutron halo breakup reactions within the framework of post-form distorted wave Born approximation wherein pure Coulomb, pure nuclear and their interference terms are treated consistently in a single setup. This formalism is used to study the breakup of one-neutron halo nucleus 11Be on several targets of different masses. We investigate the role played by the pure Coulomb, pure nuclear and the Coulomb-nuclear interference terms by calculating several reaction observables. The Coulomb-nuclear interference terms are found to be important for more exclusive observables.
Available experimental data on the exclusive $pd\to pnp$ reaction at 585 MeV show a narrow peak in the proton-neutron final-state interaction region. It was supposed previously, on the basis of a phenomenological analysis of the shape of this peak, that the final spin-singlet $pn$ state provided about one third of the observed cross section. By comparing the absolute value of the measured cross section with that of $pd$ elastic scattering using the Fäldt-Wilkin extrapolation theorem, it is shown here that the $pd\to pnp$ data can be explained mainly by the spin-triplet final state with a singl…
The Coulomb-nuclear interference is studied as a function of the projectile ground-state binding energy in the 8Li + 12C and 8Li + 208Pb breakup reactions, by considering an arbitrary range for the 8Li ground-state binding energies εb, varying from the experimental one 2.03 MeV down to 0.01 MeV. Regardless the target mass, we first show that the Coulomb breakup cross section is stronger dependent on εb than the nuclear breakup cross section, due to the long-range nature of the Coulomb forces and to the electromagnetic transition matrix elements. For example, in case of 8Li + 208Pb reaction at …
Within the pure Coulomb breakup mechanism, we investigate the one-neutron removal reaction of the type A(a,b$γ$)X with $^{11}$Be and $^{19}$C projectiles on a heavy target nucleus $^{208}$Pb at the beam energy of 60 MeV/nucleon. Our intention is to examine the prospective of using these reactions to study the structure of neutron rich nuclei. Integrated partial cross sections and momentum distributions for the ground as well as excited bound states of core nuclei are calculated within the finite range distorted wave Born approximation as well as within the adiabatic model of the Coulomb breaku…
The deuteron fragmentation by fast protons has been studied both near the kinematics of quasi-free proton - proton scattering and far away from it. We have concentrated on the interplay between different reaction mechanisms associated with the antisymmetrization of the initial and final states and rescattering contributions. A multiple-scattering-expansion technique has been applied to evaluate the reaction amplitude. An essential element of this approach in the momentum representation is the use of the effective nucleon- nucleon interaction constructed by Love and Franey as a two-body t-matri…
We review some simple mechanisms of breakup in nuclear reactions. We mention the spectator breakup, which is described in the post-form DWBA. The relation to other formulations is also indicated. An especially important mechanism is Coulomb dissociation. It is a distinct advantage that the perturbation due to the electric field of the nucleus is exactly known. Therefore firm conclusions can be drawn from such measurements. Some new applications of Coulomb dissociation for nuclear astrophysics are discussed.
The astrophysical factor of the 8B(p,gamma)9C at zero energy, S18(0), is determined from three-body model analysis of 9C breakup processes. The elastic breakup 208Pb(9C,p8B)208Pb at 65 MeV/nucleon and the one-proton removal reaction of 9C at 285 MeV/nucleon on C and Al targets are calculated with the continuum-discretized coupled-channels method (CDCC) and the eikonal reaction theory (ERT), respectively. The asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) of 9C in the p-8B configuration extracted from the two reactions show good consistency, in contrast to in the previous studies. As a result of th…
