Addressing the ${(g-2)_μ}$ anomaly and simultaneously being consistent with the tight bounds on ${μ\to e γ}$ requires a precise alignment of the lepton dipole operator in flavor space. We investigate this alignment condition in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory by considering the Renormalization Group mixing of the relevant operators. We find that semileptonic four-fermion operators, which are likely to yield a sizable contribution to the ${(g-2)_μ}$ anomaly, need to be tightly aligned to the lepton dipole operator and Yukawa coupling. We discuss how New Physics models can comply with these stringent conditions by employing particular dynamical assumptions or using flavor symmetries.
Motivated by the Xenon1T excess in electron-recoil measurements, we investigate the prospects of probing axion-like particles (ALP) in lepton flavor violation experiments. In particular, we identify such ALP as a pseudo-Goldstone from the spontaneous breaking of the flavor symmetries that explain the mixing structure of the Standard Model leptons. We present the case of the flavor symmetries being a non-Abelian U(2) and the ALP originating from its U(1) subgroup, which is anomaly-free with the Standard Model group. We build two explicit realistic examples that reproduce leptonic masses and mix…
We propose a SUSY scenario to explain the current electron and muon $g-2$ discrepancies without introducing lepton flavor mixings. Threshold corrections to the Yukawa couplings can enhance the electron $g-2$ and flip the sign of the SUSY contributions. The mechanism predicts a flavor-dependent slepton mass spectrum. We show that it is compatible with the Higgs mediation scenario.
We consider supersymmetric models where anomaly and gravity mediation give comparable contributions to the soft terms and discuss how this can be realized in a five-dimensional brane world. The gaugino mass pattern of anomaly mediation is preserved in such a hybrid setup. The flavorful gravity-mediated contribution cures the tachyonic slepton problem of anomaly mediation. The supersymmetric flavor puzzle is solved by alignment. We explicitly show how a working flavor-tachyon link can be realized with Abelian flavor symmetries and give the characteristic signatures of the framework, including O…
We study models with contributions of similar size to the soft masses from anomaly- and gravity mediation, thereby curing the tachyonic slepton problem of anomaly mediation. A possible origin of this hybrid setup in a 5-dimensional brane world is briefly discussed. The absence of excessive flavor violation is explained by alignment. The gravitino can be heavy enough so that the gravitino problem of supersymmetric theories with leptogenesis is avoided. The model has a characteristic signature: It predicts the distinctive gaugino mass pattern of anomaly mediation and, at the same time, O(1) slep…
The $R_{K^{(*)}}$ anomaly can be explained by tree level exchange of leptoquarks. We study the consequences of subjecting these models to the principle of minimal flavor violation (MFV). We consider MFV in the linear regime, and take the charged lepton Yukawa matrix to be the only spurion that violates lepton flavor universality. We find that a combination of constraints from a variety of processes -- $b\to sμμ$, $b\to sττ$, $b\to sνν$, $b\bar b\toττ$ and $b\to cτν$ -- excludes MFV in these models.
There has been persistent disagreement between the Standard Model (SM) prediction and experimental measurements of $R_{D^{(*)}}=\mathcal{B}(\bar B \rightarrow D^{(*)} τ\barν_τ)/\mathcal{B}(\bar B \rightarrow D^{(*)} l \barν_l)$ $(l=e,μ)$. This anomaly may be addressed by introducing interactions beyond the Standard Model involving new states, such as leptoquarks. Since the processes involved are quark flavor changing, any new states would need to couple to at least two different generations of quarks, requiring a non-trivial flavor structure in the quark sector while avoiding stringent constra…
Zero temperature properties of an (axial-) vector meson extended linear sigma model are discussed, concerning on the possible different realizations of the axial anomaly term. The different anomaly terms are compared with each other on the basis of a chi^2 minimalization process. It is found that there is no essential difference among the different realizations. This means that any of them can be equally used from phenomenological point of view.
We show that one can describe the quark and lepton masses with a single anomaly-free U(1) flavor symmetry provided a single order one parameter is enhanced by roughly 4-5. The flavor symmetry can be seen to arise from inside the $E_6$ symmetry group in such a way that it commutes with the SU(5) grand unified gauge group. The scenario does not distinguish between the left-handed lepton doublets and hence is a model of neutrino anarchy. It can therefore account for the large mixing observed in atmospheric neutrino experiments and predicts that the solar neutrino oscillation data is consistent wi…
We investigate whether postulating the existence of Lorentz-violating, CPT-conserving interactions allows three-neutrino solutions to the LSND anomaly that are also consistent with all other neutrino data. We show that Lorentz-violating interactions that couple only to one of the active neutrinos have the right properties to explain all the data. The details of the data make this solution unattractive. We find, for example, that a highly non-trivial energy dependence of the Lorentz-violating interactions is required.
The renormalization constant $Z_J$ of the flavor-singlet axial-vector current with a non-anticommuting $γ_5$ in dimensional regularization is determined to order $α_s^3$ in QCD with massless quarks. In addition, the equality between the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ renormalization constant $Z_{F\tilde{F}}$ associated with the operator $\big[F \tilde{F} \big]_{R}$ and that of $α_s$ is verified explicitly to hold true at 4-loop order.
We pursue a possibility that a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson is lurking around or below the intermediate scale. To this end we consider an anomaly-free global flavor symmetry, and construct models where the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson is coupled preferentially to leptons. The experimental and astrophysical bounds derived from couplings to photons and nucleons are significantly relaxed. If sufficiently light, the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson contributes to dark matter, and interestingly, it generally decays into photons through couplings arising from threshold corrections. We show that the rece…
We consider the flavor structure of supersymmetric theories that can account for the deviation of the observed time-dependent CP asymmetry in B --> phi K_S from the standard model prediction. Assuming simple flavor symmetries and effective field theory, we investigate possible correlations between sizable supersymmetric contributions to b --> s transitions and to flavor changing processes that are more tightly constrained. With relatively few assumptions, we determine the properties of minimal Yukawa and soft mass textures that are compatible with the desired supersymmetric flavor-changing eff…
We consider a simple setup with light squarks which is free from the gravitino and SUSY flavor problems. In our setup, a SUSY breaking sector is sequestered from the matter and gauge sectors, and it only couples to the Higgs sector directly with $\mathcal{O}(100)\,$TeV gravitino. Resulting mass spectra of sfermions are split: the first and second generation sfermions are light as $\mathcal{O}(1)\,$TeV while the third generation sfermions are heavy as $\mathcal{O}(10)\,$TeV. The light squarks of $\mathcal{O}(1)\,$TeV can be searched at the (high-luminosity) LHC and future collider experiments. …
Although the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly can be explained by New Physics (NP) involving only muons, a more general flavor structure is usually expected for NP operators in the Standard Model (SM) Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). In particular, if one wants to provide a combined explanation of several beyond the SM effects, like Lepton Flavor Universality (LFU) Violation, as indicated by the B anomalies, then a strong alignment of the NP operators in flavor space is required to satisfy the bounds from observables featuring Lepton Flavor Violation (LFV), like $μ\to e γ$. We derived the tight bound of $10^{…
Temperature dependence of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly is investigated by taking into account mesonic fluctuations in the $U(3)\times U(3)$ linear sigma model. A field dependent anomaly coefficient function of the effective potential is calculated within the finite temperature functional renormalization group approach. The applied approximation scheme is a generalization of the chiral invariant expansion technique developed in [G. Fejos, Phys. Rev. D 90, 096011 (2014)]. We provide an analytic expression and also numerical evidence that depending on the relationship between the two quartic couplings, m…
The muon $g-2$ anomaly is a long-standing discrepancy from its standard model prediction. The recent improved measurement of the fine structure constant makes the electron $g-2$ anomaly very interesting for both sign and magnitude in comparison to the muon $g-2$ anomaly. In order to explain both muon and electron $g-2$ anomalies, we introduce flavor violation in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) as a low energy theory. The lepton flavor violating process $τ\to eγ$ is one the major constraints to explain both $g-2$ anomalies simultaneously emerging from flavor violating terms. We…
We introduce two anomaly free versions of Froggatt-Nielsen (FN) models, based on either $G_{\rm FN}=U(1)^3$ or $G_{\rm FN}=U(1)$ horizontal symmetries, that generate the SM quark and lepton flavor structures. The structure of these "inverted" FN models is motivated by the clockwork mechanism: the chiral fields, singlets under $G_{\rm FN}$, are supplemented by chains of vector-like fermions charged under $G_{\rm FN}$. Unlike the traditional FN models the hierarchy of quark and lepton masses is obtained as an expansion in $M/\langle ϕ\rangle$, where $M$ is the typical vector-like fermion mass, a…
The discrepancy between the measured value and the Standard Model prediction of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most important issues in the particle physics. It is known that introducing a mediator boson X with the $μτ$ lepton flavor violating (LFV) couplings is one good solution to explain the discrepancy, due to the $τ$ mass enhancement in the one-loop correction. In this paper, we study the signal of this model, i.e. the same-sign leptons, in the Belle II experiment, assuming the flavor-diagonal couplings are suppressed. We show that the Belle II experiment is highly sensi…
We propose a novel mechanism to reproduce the observed mass hierarchy for the scalar mesons lighter than 1 GeV (called the inverse hierarchy) regarding them as mesons made of a quark and an anti-quark ($q\bar{q}$ mesons). The source is provided by the SU(3)-flavor symmetry-breaking induced by U(1) axial anomaly. In particular, the anomaly term including the explicit-chiral symmetry-breaking plays a significant role for the light scalar meson spectrum. To be concrete, we construct a linear sigma model for the scalar mesons of $q\bar{q}$ type together with their pseudoscalar chiral partners, inc…
One of the main motivations to look beyond the SM is the discrepancy between the theoretical prediction and observation of anomalous magnetic moment of muon. Alleviating this tension between theory and experiment and satisfying the bounds from lepton flavor violation data simultaneously is a challenging task. In this paper, we consider generalised Two Higgs Doublet Model, with a Yukawa structure as a perturbation of Type X Two Higgs Doublet Model. In view of this model, we explore muon anomaly and lepton flavor violation along with constraints coming from B-physics, theoretical constraints, el…
Any observation of charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV) implies the existence of new physics beyond the SM in charged lepton sector. CLFV interactions may also contribute to the muon magnetic moment and explain the discrepancy between the SM prediction and the recent muon $g-2$ precision measurement at Fermilab. We consider the most general SM gauge invariant Lagrangian of $ΔL=0$ bileptons with CLFV couplings and investigate the interplay of low-energy precision experiments and colliders in light of the muon magnetic moment anomaly. We go beyond previous work by demonstrating the sensitivity…
Within supersymmetric SU(5) Grand Unified Theory, we present several new scenarios with anomaly free flavor symmetry U(1)_F. Within each scenario, a variety of cases offer many possibilities for phenomenologically interesting model building. We present three concrete and economical models with anomaly free U(1)_F leading to natural understanding of observed hierarchies between charged fermion masses and CKM mixing angles.
An approach to solving the Strong CP Problem in supersymmetric theories is discussed which uses abelian family symmetries to align the mass matrices of the quarks and squarks. In this way both the Strong CP Problem and the characteristic flavor and CP problems of supersymmetry can be solved in a single way.
For all the success of the Standard Model (SM), it is on the verge of being surpassed. In this regard we argue, by showing a minimal flavor-structured model based on the non-Abelian discrete $SL_2(F_3)$ symmetry, that $U(1)$ mixed-gravitational anomaly cancellation could be of central importance in constraining the fermion contents of a new chiral gauge theory. Such anomaly-free condition together with the SM flavor structure demands a condition $k_1\,X_1/2=k_2\,X_2$ with $X_i$ being a charge of $U(1)_{X_i}$ and $k_i$ being an integer, both of which are flavor dependent. We show that axionic d…
We investigate simplified models involving an inert scalar triplet and vector-like leptons that can account for the muon $g-2$ anomaly. These simplified scenarios are embedded in a model that features W' and Z' bosons, which are subject to stringent collider bounds. The constraints coming from the muon $g-2$ anomaly are put into perspective with collider bounds, as well as bounds coming from lepton flavor violation searches. The region of parameter space that explains the $g-2$ anomaly is shown to be within reach of lepton flavor violation probes and future colliders such as HL-LHC and HE-LHC.
The most general two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) includes potentially large sources of flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) that must be suppressed in order to achieve a phenomenologically viable model. The flavor alignment ansatz postulates that all Yukawa coupling matrices are diagonal when expressed in the basis of mass-eigenstate fermion fields, in which case tree-level Higgs mediated FCNCs are eliminated. In this work, we explore models with the flavor alignment condition imposed at a very high energy scale, which results in the generation of Higgs-mediated FCNCs via renormalization gr…
A Supersymmetric Grand unified model is constructed based on SO(10)xSO(10) symmetry in which new types of Yukawa matrices couple standard and exotic fermions. Evolution of these couplings from the Grand Unified scale to the electroweak scale causes some of them to be driven to their fixed points. This solves the supersymmetric alignment problem and ensures that there are no observable flavor changing neutral currents mediated by supersymmetric particles. Fermion hierarchy and neutrino mixing constraints are automatically satisfied in this formalism.
We propose a simple model to simultaneously explain four observed flavor anomalies while generating the neutrino mass at the one-loop level. Specifically, we address the measured anomalous magnetic dipole moments of the muon, $Δa_μ$ , and electron, $Δa_e$, the observed anomaly of $b\rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ in the $B$-meson decays, and the Cabibbo-angle anomaly. The model consists of four colorful new degrees of freedom: three scalar leptoquarks with the Standard Model quantum numbers $(3,3,-1/3),(3,2,1/6)$, and $(3,1,2/3)$, and one pair of down-quark-like vector fermion in $(3,1,-1/3)$. The bary…
The various experimental bounds on flavor-changing interactions severely restrict the low-energy flavor structures of soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. In this work, we show that with a particular assumption of Yukawa couplings, the fermion mass and sfermion soft mass matrices are simultaneously diagonalized by common mixing matrices and we then obtain an alignment solution for the flavor problems. The required condition is generated by renormalization group evolutions and achieved at low-energy scale independently of high-energy structures of couplings. In this case, the diagonal entrie…
In this paper, we consider the Standard Model (SM) with one family of vector-like (VL) leptons, which couple to all three families of the SM leptons. We study the constraints on this model coming from the heavy charged lepton mass bound, electroweak precision data, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, lepton flavor violation, Higgs decay constraints and a recently measured lepton non-universality observable, $R_{K^{*0}}$. We find that the strongest constraints are coming from the muon $g-2, \ R_{μμ}=Γ(h\toμμ)/Γ(h\toμμ)_\text{SM}, \ R_{γγ}$ and $\text{BR}(μ\to eγ)$. Although VL leptons couple to…
Adding right-handed neutrino singlets and/or fermion triplets to the particle content of the Standard Model allows for the implementation of the seesaw mechanism to give mass to neutrinos and, simultaneously, for the construction of anomaly-free gauge group extensions of the theory. We consider Abelian extensions based on an extra U(1)_X gauge symmetry, where X is an arbitrary linear combination of the baryon number B and the individual lepton numbers L_{e,mu,tau}. By requiring cancellation of gauge anomalies, we perform a detailed analysis in order to identify the charge assignments under the…
We propose a one-loop radiative Majorana-type neutrino-mass matrix without any kind of additional symmetries by introducing two leptoquark-like bosons only. In this scenario, we show that the anomaly appearing in the process $b\to s\ell\bar\ell$ can be explained without any conflicts against various constraints such as lepton-flavor violations, flavor-changing neutral currents, oblique parameters $ΔS,\ ΔT$, and the Drell-Yan process. We make the predictions for the flavor-violating lepton-pair production ($eμ$, $eτ$, and $μτ$) at the LHC, as well as the cross sections for pair production of th…
The phase diagram of strongly interacting matter is studied within a three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, which contains the coupling between chiral and diquark condensates through the axial anomaly. Our results show that it is essential to include the 2SC phase in the analysis. While this is expected for realistic strange quark masses, we find that even for equal up, down, and strange bare quark masses, 2SC pairing can be favored due to spontaneous flavor-symmetry breaking by the axial anomaly. This can lead to a rich phase structure, including BCS- and BEC-like 2SC and CFL phases and new …
Using flavor basis we relate flavor axial anomalies to the mass matrix of pseudoscalar isoscalar fields in the context of a Linear Sigma Model which includes U_A(1) symmetry breaking. We incorporate additional contributions to these anomalies due to external electromagnetic fields invoking 't Hooft's argument on anomaly matching and work out the predictions of this formalism for eta to gamma gamma and eta' to gamma gamma decays. We show that the only effect of the U_A(1) anomaly in these processes is in the formation of the eta and eta' systems. From experimental data on their two photon decay…
We study the alignment of the vacuum in gauge theories with $N_f$ Dirac fermions transforming according to a complex representation of the gauge group. The alignment of the vacuum is produced by adding a small mass perturbation to the theory. We study in detail the $N_f=2,3$ and $4$ case. For $N_f=2$ and $N_f=3$ we reproduce earlier known results including the Dashen phase with spontaneous violation of the combined charge conjugation and parity symmetry, CP. For $N_f=4$ we find regions with and without spontaneous CP violation. We then generalize to an arbitrary number of flavors. Here it is s…
We present a class of warped extra dimensional models whose flavor violating interactions are much suppressed compared to the usual anarchic case due to flavor alignment. Such suppression can be achieved in models where part of the global flavor symmetry is gauged in the bulk and broken in a controlled manner. We show that the bulk masses can be aligned with the down type Yukawa couplings by an appropriate choice of bulk flavon field representations and TeV brane dynamics. This alignment could reduce the flavor violating effects to levels which allow for a Kaluza-Klein scale as low as 2-3 TeV,…
We present an economical model where an $S^{}_1$ leptoquark and an anomaly-free $U(1)^{}_X$ gauge symmetry with $X = B^{}_3-2L^{}_μ/3-L^{}_τ/3$ are introduced, to account for the muon anomalous magnetic moment $a^{}_μ\equiv (g^{}_μ-2)$ and flavor puzzles including $R^{}_{K^{(\ast)_{}}}$ and $R^{}_{D^{(\ast)_{}}}$ anomalies together with quark and lepton flavor mixing. The $Z^\prime_{}$ gauge boson associated with the $U(1)^{}_X$ symmetry is responsible for the $R^{}_{K^{(\ast)_{}}}$ anomaly. Meanwhile, the specific flavor mixing patterns of quarks and leptons can be generated after the spontan…
A model describing the 4.1σ Wjj anomaly observed by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron collider is introduced. It features new scalar particles which are charged both under the SU(3)_C and the SU(2)_L gauge groups and which couple to pairs of quarks. We introduce several identical replicas of the scalar multiplets in order to leave an unbroken U(3)_Q x U(3)_U x U(3)_D flavor symmetry to satisfy the constraints coming from flavor physics. We discuss the LHC reach on the new scalar resonances both in the resonant production channel (with the Wjj final state) and in the QCD pair production channe…
We study the QCD phase structure in the three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, incorporating the chiral-diquark interplay due to the axial anomaly. We demonstrate that for a certain range of model parameters, the low temperature critical point predicted by a Ginzburg-Landau analysis appears in the phase diagram. In addition, we show that the axial anomaly presents a new scenario for a possible BEC-BCS crossover in the color-flavor locked phase of QCD.
We investigate the indications of flavor oscillations that come from the anomalous flavor composition of the atmospheric neutrino flux observed in some underground experiments. We study the information coming from the neutrino-induced $μ$-like and $e$-like events both in the sub-GeV energy range (Kamiokande, IMB, Fr{é}jus, and NUSEX experiments) and in the multi-GeV energy range (Kamiokande experiment). First we analyze all the data in the limits of pure $ν_μ\leftrightarrowν_τ$ and $ν_μ\leftrightarrowν_e$ oscillations. We obtain that $ν_μ\leftrightarrowν_e$ oscillations provide a better fit, i…
Coupling of `t Hooft's determinant term is investigated in the framework of the three flavor linear sigma model as a function of the chiral condensate. Using perturbation theory around the minimum point of the effective action, we calculate the renormalization group flow of the first field dependent correction to the coupling of the conventional U_A(1) breaking determinant term. It is found that at low temperatures mesonic fluctuations make the anomaly increase when the chiral condensate decreases. As an application, we analyze the effect at the zero temperature nuclear liquid-gas transition.
We use strongly coupled lattice QED with two flavors of massless staggered fermions to model the physics of pions in two-flavor massless QCD. Our model has the right chiral symmetries and can be studied efficiently with cluster algorithms. In particular we can tune the strength of the QCD anomaly and thus study its effects on the chiral phase transition. Our study confirms the widely accepted view point that the chiral phase transition is first order in the absence of the anomaly. Turning on the anomaly weakens the transition and turns it second order at a critical anomaly strength. The anomal…
We study the QCD phase structure in the three-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, incorporating the interplay between the chiral and diquark condensates induced by the axial anomaly. We demonstrate that for an appropriate range of parameters of the model, the interplay leads to the low temperature critical point in the phase structure predicted by a previous Ginzburg-Landau analysis. We also show that a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of diquark molecules emerges in the intermediate density region, and as a result, a BEC-BCS crossover is realized with increasing quark chemical potential.
We investigate the phase structure of massless three-flavor QCD by extending the Nambu-Jona- Lasinio model to include the effects of confinement and the axial anomaly. We study the interplay between the chiral and diquark condensates induced by the axial anomaly, as well as their relationship with the Polyakov loop, which parameterizes confinement. By minimizing the thermodynamic potential we construct the QCD phase diagram and investigate the possibility of realizing a recently discovered low temperature critical point and an associated BEC-BCS crossover. We also perform a Ginzburg-Landau exp…
We show that the discrepancy between the observed value of the muon anomalous moment and the standard model prediction can be explained in the framework of nonlocal theories. We compute the leading order and next to leading order nonlocal correction to the anomalous magnetic moment $α_{NL}$ and we find that it depends on the nonlocality scale $M_f$ and the fermion mass $m_f$ as $α_{NL} \propto m_f^2/M_f^2$. Such a dependence of the anomalous magnetic momentum allows to explain, in a flavor-blind nonlocality scale, why the observed anomalous magnetic moment of the electron is much closer to the…
An extension of the Standard Model with anomaly free $U(1)_F$ flavor symmetry is studied in this paper. With this extension and the addition of the right-handed neutrino states, the solution of anomaly free charge assignments is found, which gives appealing texture zero and hierarchical Yukawa matrices. This gives us a natural understanding of the hierarchies between charged fermion masses and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements. Neutrino Dirac and Majorana coupling matrices also have desirable structures leading to successful neutrino oscillations with inverted neutrino mass order…
We study the charged Higgs couplings to fermions in the "democratic" three-Higgs-doublet model, in which one doublet couples to down-type quarks, one to up-type quarks, and one to charged leptons. Flavor-changing neutral Higgs couplings are absent because the Glashow-Weinberg-Paschos condition for natural flavor conservation is in effect. We show that this model reproduces the coupling structure of the charged Higgs boson in the recently-proposed Yukawa-aligned two-Higgs-doublet model, with two subtle constraints that arise from the unitarity of the charged Higgs mixing matrix. Adding a fourth…
We introduce a new model of supersymmetry breaking dominated by anomaly mediation. It has a viable spectrum, successful electroweak symmetry breaking, solves the mu-problem and maintains the anomaly-mediated form for soft-masses down to low energies thus solving the flavor problem. The model consists of the minimal supersymmetric standard model plus a singlet, anomaly-mediated soft masses and a dirac mass which marries the bino to the singlet. We describe a large class of models in the UV which can produce such boundary conditions. The dirac mass does not affect the so-called "UV insensitivity…
We interpret the newly observed muon g-2 anomaly in the framework of a leptonic Higgs doublet model with nearly degenerate neutrino masses and nearly bi-maximal neutrino mixing. Useful constraints are obtained on the rates of lepton-flavor-violating rare decays $τ\to μγ$, $μ\to e γ$ and $τ\to e γ$ as well as the $μ$-$e$ conversion ratio $R_{μe}$. We find that $Γ(μ\to e γ)$, $Γ(τ\to e γ)$ and $R_{μe}$ depend crucially on possible non-zero but samll values of the neutrino mixing matrix element $V_{e3}$, and they are also sensitive to the Dirac-type CP-violating phase. In particular, we show that…
The $SU(2)_A \times U(2)_V$-symmetric chiral linear sigma model in the presence of the axial anomaly is studied in the local-potential approximation of the Functional Renormalization Group (FRG). The renormalization group (RG) flow is investigated in a truncation which reproduces recent results for the $U(2)_A \times U(2)_V$-symmetric model in the limit of vanishing axial anomaly strength. We search for the conjectured O(4) fixed point in the presence of the $U(1)_A$ anomaly and analyze its stability properties.
The three neutrino mass matrices in the $SU(5)\times U(2)$ model are studied focusing on the neutrino oscillation experiments. The atmospheric neutrino anomaly could be explained by the large $ν_μ - ν_τ$ oscillation. The long baseline experiments are expected to detect signatures of the neutrino oscillation even if the atmospheric neutrino anomaly is not due to the neutrino oscillation. However, the model cannot solve the solar neutrino deficit while it could be reconciled with the LSND data.
I discuss the mass parameters appearing in the gauge theory of the strong interactions, concentrating on the two flavor case. I show how the effect of the CP violating parameter $θ$ is simply interpreted in terms of the state of the æther via an effective potential for meson fields. For degenerate flavors I show that a first order phase transition is expected at $θ=π.$ I speculate on the implications of this structure for Wilson's lattice fermions.
We consider an explanation of CDF II W bosom mass anomaly by $Z-Z'$ mixing with $U(1)_R$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed fermions are charged. It is found that $U(1)_R$ is preferred to be leptophobic to accommodate the anomaly while avoiding other experimental constraints. In such a case we require extra charged leptons to cancel quantum anomalies and the SM charged leptons get masses via interactions with the extra ones. These interactions also induce muon $g-2$ and lepton flavor violations. We discuss muon $g-2$, possible flavor constraints, neutrino mass generation via inverse seesa…
Supersymmetry is still a viable explanation for the muon $g-2$ anomaly, if the sleptons and electroweak gauginos are $\mathcal{O}(100)$ GeV. However, for supersymmetry breaking masses this light, the SUSY flavor and CP-problem are exacerbated. To address this issue, we consider a flavor-safe gauge mediated explanation of the muon $g-2$ with additional Higgs soft supersymmetry breaking mass parameters. The setup provides a generic parameter space within minimal gauge mediation. Furthermore, we show that the problematic CP violating phase can be dynamically suppressed. We find that gauge mediati…
The gluonic contributions to the conventional PCAC formulas due to flavor singlet axial anomaly have been instrumental in explaining the mass of the $η^{\prime}$ and providing a plausible explanation for solving the spin crisis. We show that they also play an important role in the description of photo- and electroproduction of vector mesons at low energy and high momentum transfers. We calculate the contributions of this type to $ϕ$ meson electromagnetic production in a model, which contains also a soft pomeron, and find agreement with recent CLAS data.
In previous studies we found that models with flavor-universal suppression of the neutrino-gauge couplings are compatible with NuTeV and Z-pole data. In this paper we expand our analysis to obtain constraints on flavor-dependent coupling suppression by including lepton universality data from W, tau, pi and K decays in fits to model parameters. We find that the data are consistent with a variety of patterns of coupling suppression. In particular, in scenarios in which the suppression arises from the mixing of light neutrinos with heavy gauge singlet states (neutrissimos), we find patterns of fl…
