The recently developed quantum mechanical string+${}^3P_0$ model of polarized quark fragmentation with pseudoscalar and vector meson production has been implemented in a stand alone Monte Carlo program. The simulation enables the detailed study of the quark spin dependent effects in the fragmentation process such as the transverse spin asymmetries. In particular, it allows to investigate the effects of the production and decay of vector mesons on the Collins and dihadron asymmetries of the observed hadrons, and to study the still unknown Collins effect for vector mesons. The main results of the Monte Carlo simulations obtained so far are summarized and the comparison with the existing experimental data on SIDIS and $e^+e^-$ annihilation to hadrons processes are presented.
The Sivers Function is briefly reviewed and the Collins Fragmentation Function to produce a hadron from a polarized quark is defined. We estimate $π^{+},π^{-}$ +X production, where X represents particles which are not detected, via proton collisions with a polarized proton target using the Collins Fragmentation Function derived using the gluon distribution functions for polarized p-p collisions at E=$\sqrt{s}$=200 GeV.
In this talk I present a review on the theoretical status of polarized fragmentation functions and the prospects for conceivable future semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and proton-proton collision experiments to measure them.
Fragmentation functions for heavy-light mesons, like the charmed D, D^* mesons, are proposed. They rest on next-to-leading QCD Perturbative Fragmentation Functions for heavy quarks, with the addition of a non-perturbative term describing phenomenologically the quark --> meson transition. The cross section for production of large p_T D, D^* mesons at the Tevatron is evaluated in this framework.
We show that measurements of semi-inclusive $π^\pm$ asymmetries on $p$ and $n$ with polarized and unpolarized target and beams allow, without any knowledge of the polarized parton densities 1) to test independent fragmentation and SU(2) symmetry for the polarized sea, and 2) to determine separately the polarized strange and valence quark densities, and the ratio of the fragmentation functions $D_s^{π^+ + π^-}/D_u^{π^+ +π^-}$
We study the fragmentation of a transversely polarized quark into a non collinear (k_T not= 0) spinless hadron and the fragmentation of an unpolarized quark into a non collinear transversely polarized spin 1/2 baryon. These nonperturbative properties are described by spin and k_T dependent fragmentation functions and are revealed in the observation of single spin asymmetries. Recent data on the production of pions in polarized semi-inclusive DIS and long known data on Lambda polarization in unpolarized p-N processes are considered: these new fragmentation functions can describe the experimenta…
I give an overview of the present knowledge about nonperturbative functions parametrizing the fragmentation into one or two hadrons of (un)polarized light quarks in vacuum, including information on their transverse momentum dependence.
It is well known that large nonfragmentational contributions to inclusive production of charmed particles appear at low energies. In the case of charm production in $B$-meson decays these contributions arise from the participation of the light valent quark from the $B$-meson and can be easily described phenomenologically. These contributions affect $D$-meson spectra and essentially change ratios between yields of different $D$-meson states.
Using the recent measurement of the total production rate for $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ mesons in electron-positron annihilation to determine the strange quark mass parameter in the $\bar b\to B_s,\, B_s^*$ fragmentation functions we calculate the momentum distributions of the $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ mesons.
The cross sections for the production of $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ mesons through the fragmentation process in $\bar{p}p$ collisions were calculated. The input parameters were determined from the measured $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ production rates in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. The transverse momentum distributions $dσ/dp_{T}$ are given for $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV, the Fermilab Tevatron energy.
We determine the two-loop 'time-like' Altarelli-Parisi splitting functions, appearing in the next-to-leading order Q^2-evolution equations for fragmentation functions, via analytic continuation of the corresponding 'space-like' splitting functions for the evolution of parton distributions. We do this for the case of unpolarized fragmentation functions and - for the first time - also for the functions describing the fragmentation of a longitudinally polarized parton into a longitudinally polarized spin-1/2 hadron such as a Lambda baryon. Our calculation is based on the method proposed and emplo…
We extract the pion fragmentation functions and their uncertainties from a judicious choice of e+e- and semi-inclusive DIS data. These are used to study the error propagation in the extraction of polarized parton densities from semi-inclusive DIS asymmetries. We conclude that the uncertainties on polarized PDs have been underestimated in the past.
An SU(3) symmetric model with high predictivity for octet meson (π, K) quark fragmentation functions with a simple approach to SU(3) symmetry breaking (due to the relatively heavy strange quarks) is extended to the singlet sector, with some reasonable assumptions, in order to study ηand η' fragmentation. Due to the presence of SU(3) symmetry, fits to the πand K data help to constrain the fragmentation functions for ηand η' mesons. The use of 2-jet and 3-jet (especially the gluon jet) inclusive meson production in e^+e^- collisions and π, ηinclusive production in p p collisions enable the extra…
In the framework of the kT-factorization approach we have calculated in the fragmentation model the pT-spectra of B(c) mesons at the energies of the Tevatron and the LHC Colliders and at the large pT domain. We compare the obtained results with the existing experimental data and with the predictions obtained in the collinear parton model.
We considered the electro- and photoproduction of ρand other vector mesons with moderately large transverse momentum in the scattering of unpolarized electrons on unpolarized nucleons and nuclei. For these processes we have analyzed how to extract the novel fragmentation functions \bar b_1^q(z), \bar b_1^G(z), describing tensor polarization, and the photon double spin-flip distribution Δ^γfrom the angular distribution of meson decay products.
A detailed study of fragmentation of vector mesons at the next-to-leading order (NLO) is given for e^+ e^- scattering. A model with broken SU(3) symmetry uses three input fragmentation functions α(x, Q^2), β(x,Q^2) and γ(x,Q^2) and a strangeness suppression parameter λto describe all the light quark fragmentation functions for the entire vector meson octet. At a starting low energy scale of Q_0^2 = 1.5 GeV^2 for three light quarks (u, d, s) along with initial parameterization, the fragmentation functions are evolved through DGLAP evolution equations at NLO and the cross-section is calculated. …
We discuss the possibility of the asymmetry in $D^-/D^+$ production, from $π^-$ beams, being a direct consequence of the properties of the light quark fragmentation function into heavy mesons. The main features of the asymmetry, as a function of $x_F$, are easily described. An integrated sum-rule for the $D^-, D^+$ difference, is presented. Predictions for the asymmetry, in $B$ meson production, are given.
Using the linear sigma model to describe quark--pion interactions, we compute polarization asymmetries in quark fragmentation. We show that the effects of transverse quark polarizations appear in the correlation between the two leading pions in a jet produced by the fragmentation of a quark. Such asymmetries provide a window to the nature of chiral symmetry breaking in QCD.
Study of the polarized heavy quarkonium production in recently proposed QCD factorization formalism requires knowledge of a large number of input fragmentation functions (FFs) from a single parton or a heavy quark-antiquark pair to a polarized heavy quarkonium. In this paper, we calculate these FFs at the input scale in terms of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization. We derive all relevant polarized NRQCD long-distance matrix elements based symmetries and propose a self-consistent scheme to define them in arbitrary $d$ dimensions. We then calculate polarized input FFs contributed from all …
We present a brief description of the determination of the two-loop spin-dependent time-like splitting functions relevant for the NLO evolution of polarized fragmentation functions. Our calculation based on the analytic continuation of the corresponding space-like results obtained within the light-cone gauge method proposed by Curci, Furmanski, and Petronzio. As an application we present an analysis of polarized Lambda production in e+e- and ep collisions.
The production of the octet of baryons and mesons in e^+ e^- collisions is analysed, based on considerations of SU(3) symmetry and a simple model for SU(3) symmetry breaking in fragmentation functions. All fragmentation functions, D_q^h(x, Q^2), describing the fragmentation of quarks into a member of the baryon octet (and similarly for fragmentation into members of the meson octet) are expressed in terms of three SU(3) symmetric functions, α(x, Q^2), β(x, Q^2), and γ(x, Q^2). With the introduction of an SU(3) breaking parameter, λ, the model is successful in describing hadroproduction data at …
We present a reliable estimate on the production rate of $B_c$ mesons in $1S$ and $2S$ states in the large transverse momentum region at hadronic colliders using heavy quark fragmentation functions derived within the framework of perturbative QCD. We also present the transverse momentum distribution for the $B_c$ mesons. The production rate is large enough for the $B_c$ mesons to be identified at the Tevatron. At the SSC/LHC the rate is so large that their properties can be studied in details.
Topological charge screening has been proposed as the mechanism responsible for the anomalous suppression in the first moment of the polarized proton structure function -- the `proton spin' effect. An immediate consequence is that this suppression should be target-independent, since the screening is a fundamental property of the QCD vacuum. Here, we study the possibility of testing the target-independent suppression in semi-inclusive target fragmentation processes at polarized HERA.
It has been known for a long time that hyperons produced in hadronic collisions are polarized perpendicular to the production plane of the reaction. This effect cannot be described by using twist-2 collinear parton correlators only. Here we compute the contribution of twist-3 fragmentation functions to the production of transversely polarized hyperons in unpolarized proton-proton collisions in the framework of collinear factorization. By taking into account the relations among the relevant twist-3 fragmentation functions which follow from the QCD equation of motion and the Lorentz invariance p…
Gluons cannot directly fragment into $B_c$ mesons until at order $α_s^3$. However, the Altarelli-Parisi evolution of the $\bar b$-quark fragmentation functions $D_{\bar b \to B_c}(z)$ and $D_{\bar b \to B_c^*}(z)$ from the heavy quark mass scales up to the collider energy scale $Q$ can induce the gluon fragmentation functions $D_{g \to B_c}(z)$ and $D_{g \to B_c^*}(z)$, respectively, through the gluon splitting $g\to \bar b$ at the order $α_s^3 \, {\rm log} (Q/m_{b,c})$. We will determine these induced gluon fragmentation functions. The $B_c$ meson productions due to the induced gluon fragment…
At hadron colliders the dominant production mechanism of $(\bar bc)$ mesons with large transverse momentum is due to parton fragmentation. We compute the rates and transverse momentum spectra for production of S-wave and P-wave $(\bar b c)$ mesons at the Tevatron via the direct fragmentation of the bottom antiquark as well as the Altarelli-Parisi induced gluon fragmentation. Since all the radially and orbitally excited $(\bar b c)$ mesons below the $BD$ flavor threshold will cascade into the pseudoscalar ground state $B_c$ through electromagnetic and/or hadronic transitions, they all contribut…
Some data on the ratio of vector to vector + pseudoscalar mesons, V/(V+P), and the probability of helicity zero vector states, rho_00, are now available from LEP. A possible relation between these two quantities and their interpretation in terms of polarized fragmentation functions are discussed; numerical estimates are given for the relative occupancies of K and K*, D and D*, B and B* states.
The observed $D^{**}$ mesons have $c\bar q$ flavor quantum numbers and spin-parity of the light degrees of freedom $s_\ell^{π_{\ell}} = 3/2^+$. In the $m_c \rightarrow \infty$ limit the spin of the charm quark is conserved and the $c \rightarrow D^{**}$ fragmentation process is characterized by the probability for the charm quark to fragment to a $D^{**}$ meson with a given helicity for the light degrees of freedom. We consider the calculated $b \rightarrow B_c^{**}$ fragmentation functions in the limit $m_c/m_b \rightarrow 0$ as a qualitative model for the $c \rightarrow D^{**}$ fragmentation…
After a brief review on how heavy quark symmetry constraints the helicity fragmentation probabilities for a heavy quark hadronizes into heavy-light hadrons, we present a heavy quark fragmentation model to extract the value for the Falk-Peskin probability $w_{3/2}$ describing the fragmentation of a heavy quark into a heavy-light meson whose light degrees of freedom have angular momentum ${3 \over 2}$. We point out that this probability depends on the longitudinal momentum fraction $z$ of the meson and on its transverse momentum $p_\bot$ relative to the jet axis. In this model, the light degrees…
Data on the nucleon spin structure suggests that the $u$ (and $d$) quark distributions in the $Λ$ hyperon may be polarized. If this correlation carries over into fragmentation, then the study of polarized $Λ$'s in the current fragmentation region of deep inelastic lepton scattering will be a sensitive probe of nucleon spin structure. $Λ$ production by polarized electrons from unpolarized targets can search for this correlation. If it is signficant, $Λ$ production by unpolarized electrons from longitudinally and transversely polarized targets can probe the $u$-quark helicity and transversity di…
At the large transverse momentum region, the production of heavy-heavy bound-states such as charmonium, bottomonium, and $\bar bc$ mesons in high energy $e^+e^-$ and hadronic collisions is dominated by parton fragmentation. We calculate the heavy quark fragmentation functions into the D-wave quarkonium and $\bar bc$ mesons to leading order in the strong coupling constant and in the non-relativistic expansion. In the $\bar b c$ meson case, one set of its D-wave states is expected to lie below the open flavor threshold. The total fragmentation probability for a $\bar b$ antiquark to split into t…
An azimuthal dependence of pions produced in polarized Deep Inelastic Scattering, gamma^* - p(transv. polarized) -> pion + X, has been recently observed and might be related to the so-called Collins effect. We discuss in details, for a general spin configuration of the nucleon, the kinematics of the process and methods of extracting information on the fragmentation properties of a polarized quark. Assuming that the observed azimuthal dependence is indeed due to Collins effect, we derive a lower bound estimate for the size of the quark analysing power, which turns out to be large.
Fragmentation functions for eta mesons are extracted at next-to-leading order accuracy of QCD in a global analysis of data taken in electron-positron annihilation and proton-proton scattering experiments. The obtained parametrization is in good agreement with all data sets analyzed and can be utilized, for instance, in future studies of double-spin asymmetries for single-inclusive eta production. The Lagrange multiplier technique is used to estimate the uncertainties of the fragmentation functions and to assess the role of the different data sets in constraining them.
We consider the longitudinal polarization of Lambda and Lambda-bar produced in the current fragmentation region of polarized deep inelastic scattering. We show how the various cross sections can be used to test the underlying parton dynamics, and how one can extract information about certain parton densities which are poorly known, in particular the polarized strange density sum Delta-s(x) + Delta-s-bar(x), and about fragmentation functions which are totally unknown and which are difficult to access by other means. We show also how one can obtain information concerning the intriguing question …
Using a simple quark-diquark model, we extract a set of unpolarized and polarized fragmentation functions for the $Λ$ based on the available unpolarized $Λ$ production data in $e^+ e ^- $ annihilation. It is found that there is a strong SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking in the unpolarized $Λ$ fragmentation functions and that the polarized $u$ and $d$ quark contributions to the polarized $Λ$ fragmentation are positive in medium and large $z$ region. The predictions of $Λ$-polarization with the obtained quark fragmentation functions are compatible with the available data on the longitudinally polar…
It is shown that the azimuthal dependence of the distribution of hadrons in a quark jet is a probe of the transverse spin of the quark initiating the jet. This results in a new spin-dependent fragmentation function that acts at the twist-2 level. One example of a process where it contributes is semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering with a transversely polarized nucleon target but with an {\em unpolarized} electron beam. This process is treated in detail. Another process is the cross section for singly polarized hadron-hadron scattering when two high $p_{\perp}$ hadrons are measured in the…
The production of vector mesons in the fragmentation process of polarized quarks is studied within the recursive String+${}^3P_0$ model, improving a previous version of the model in which the production of pseudoscalar mesons only was considered. Two types of couplings of the vector meson to quarks are introduced, their coupling constants being the additional free parameters of the model. The angular distribution of the decay products of the polarized vector meson is deduced from the spin density matrix of the meson and the spin information is propagated along the fragmentation chain taking in…
In the paper, we calculate the fragmentation functions for $g \to B_c$ and $g \to B_c^*$. The ultraviolet divergences in the calculation are removed through the renormalization of the operator definition of the fragmentation functions under the modified minimal subtraction scheme. We then obtain the fragmentation functions $D_{g \to B_c}(z,μ_F)$ and $D_{g \to B_c^*}(z,μ_F)$, which are presented as figures and fitting functions. The obtained fragmentation functions are complementary to the previous work on the next-to-leading order fragmentation functions for $\bar{b}\to B_c(B_c^*)$ and $c\to B…
The perturbative QCD fragmentation functions for a heavy quark to fragment into heavy-light mesons are studied in the heavy-quark limit. The fragmentation functions for S-wave pseudoscalar and vector mesons are calculated to next-to-leading order in the heavy-quark mass expansion using the methods of heavy-quark effective theory. The results agree with the $m_b\to \infty$ limit of the perturbative QCD fragmentation functions for $\bar b$ into $B_c$ and $B_c^*$. We discuss the application of the perturbative QCD fragmentation functions as a model for the fragmentation of heavy quarks into heavy…
We calculate the process-independent fragmentation functions for a $\bar b$ antiquark to fragment into longitudinally and transversely polarized $B_c^*$ ($^3S_1$) mesons to leading order in the QCD strong coupling constant. In the special case of equal quark mass we recover previous results for the fragmentation of $c\to ψ$ and $b\toΥ$. Various spin asymmetry parameters are defined as measures of the relative population of the longitudinally and transversely polarized vector meson states. In the heavy quark mass limit $m_b \to \infty$ our polarized fragmentation functions obey heavy quark spin…
We derive the next-to-leading order splitting kernels for the scale evolution of fragmentation functions for transversely polarized quarks into transversely polarized hadrons.
We compute model-independently the production rates and transverse momentum spectra for the $B_c$ mesons in various spin-orbital states ($n\,^1S_0$, $n\,^3S_1$, $n\,^1P_1$, and $n\,^3P_J\,(J=0,1,2)$ ) at hadron colliders via the direct fragmentation of the bottom antiquark and via the Altarelli-Parisi-induced gluon fragmentation. Since all the radially and orbitally excited states below the $BD$ flavor threshold will decay, either electromagnetically, hadronically, or a combination of both, into the pseudoscalar ground state $1\,^1S_0$, they all contribute significantly to the inclusive $B_c$ …
A method is discussed to determine the hitherto unknown u-quark transversity distribution from a planned HERMES measurement of a single-spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive pion electroproduction off a transversely polarized target. Assuming u-quark dominance, the measurement yields the shapes of the transversity distribution and of the ratio of a polarized and the unpolarized u-quark fragmentation functions. The unknown relative normalization can be obtained by identifying the transversity distribution with the well-known helicity distribution at large x. The systematic uncertainty of the method …
In the fragmentation of a heavy quark into a heavy meson whose light degrees of freedom have angular momentum $3/2$, all the helicity probabilities are completely determined in the heavy quark limit up to a single probability $w_{3/2}$. We point out that this probability depends on the longitudinal momentum fraction $z$ of the meson and on its transverse momentum $p_\bot$ relative to the jet axis. We calculate $w_{3/2}$ as a function of scaling variables corresponding to $z$ and $p_\bot$ for the heavy quark limit of the perturbative QCD fragmentation functions for $b$ quark to fragment into $(…
Parton distributions are constructed in a statistical physical picture of the nucleon. The chiral properties of QCD lead to strong relations between quarks and antiquarks distributions and the importance of the Pauli exclusion principle is also emphasized. A global next-to-leading order QCD analysis of unpolarized and polarized deep-inelastic scattering data is performed to determine a small number of free parameters. Some predictions are compared to recent experimental results. We also present an extension of the statistical approach to the description of baryon fragmentation functions.
We study the inclusive production of $Λ$ ($\bar Λ$) in several high energy collision processes ($e^+e^-, e^{\pm}p, ν(\bar ν)p, pp$), in view of an accurate determination of the unpolarized and polarized fragmentation functions of a quark into a $Λ$ ($\bar Λ$). For polarized fragmentation functions the inaccuracy and the scarcity of present data do not allow to distinguish between various theoretical models. We will indicate how future measurements will provide ways to discriminate between them and also how to achieve a necessary quark flavor separation. A possible extension to the production o…
We propose a modification of the mechanism of charmed quarks fragmentation into $D$ mesons in hadronic collisions. It is shown that the distinction in valence quark distributions in the initial $π^{\pm}$ and $K^{\pm}$ mesons leads to different inclusive spectra of $D$ and $D_s$ mesons produced in $π^{\pm}$ and $K^{\pm}$ beams.
Measurement of the helicity asymmetric cross section for semi-inclusive production of $Λ$-hyperons in $e^+e^-$ annihilation near the $Z^0$ resonance allows a complete determination of the spin-dependent fragmentation functions for the different quark flavors into the $Λ$. The parity violating, self analyzing, decay of the final state $Λ$ makes the experimental analysis of the helicity asymmetry possible. This experiment should be practical with present day technology at the LEP collider at CERN or at SLC at SLAC.
The fragmentation functions for $c$ or $\bar{b}$ quark to $B_c$ or $B_c^*$ meson are derived up to QCD next-to-leading order (NLO). They are further computed numerically and presented in figures precisely. In order to reach a higher accuracy, we have also tried properly to apply them to estimating the $B_c$ and $B_c^*$ production at a $Z$-factory (an $e^+e^-$ collider running at the energy of the $Z$-boson pole).
We compare QCD theoretical predictions for heavy flavoured mesons fragmentation spectra in e+ e- annihilation with data from CLEO, BELLE and LEP. We include several effects in our calculation: next-to-leading order initial conditions, evolution and coefficient functions. Soft-gluon effects are resummed at next-to-leading-log accuracy. A matching condition for the crossing of the bottom threshold in evolution is also implemented at next-to-leading order accuracy. Important initial-state electromagnetic radiation effects in the CLEO and BELLE data are accounted for. We find that, with reasonably…
The constituent nature of candidate gluonic mesons can be studied by comparing their production in quark and gluon jets. The production rate for such mesons depends on the colour confinement processes at the end of the perturbative evolution. Whereas we expect enhanced production of hybrids in the fragmentation region of a gluon jet, the rate for glueballs depends on the relative importance of colour triplet and colour octet neutralization. These neutralization processes can be studied independently in events with large rapidity gaps. If octet processes turn out important the recently suggeste…
A novel method of formulating the twist-3 gluon fragmentation function contribution to hyperon polarization in the proton-proton collision is presented. The method employs a covariant gauge and takes full advantage of the Ward-Takahashi identities before performing the collinear expansion. It provides a robust way of constructing the general cross section formula, and also a clear understanding for the absence of the ghost-like terms in the twist-3 cross section in the leading order with respect to the QCD coupling constant.
Quark spin effects in hadronization have been recently included in the PYTHIA 8 event generator for the simulation of the deep inelastic scattering (DIS) process off a polarized nucleon target via the external StringSpinner package. The spin effects can be simulated for the production of pseudoscalar mesons using the string+${}^3P_0$ model of polarized quark fragmentation and parametrizations of the transversity PDFs. We present here a major development of StringSpinner which includes the production of vector mesons in the polarized PYTHIA 8 string fragmentation as well as their polarized deca…
We present a QCD based interpretation of heavy quark fragmentation which utilizes the heavy quark mass expansion. By distinguishing between perturbative and non-perturbative QCD effects, we show how to reliably extract mass independent parameters characterizing the fragmentation function. Because these parameters are quark mass independent, this procedure should permit tests of heavy quark symmetry. Furthermore, we show that heavy quark mass corrections vanish at order $m^2/Q^2$ in QCD. There also exist higher twist corrections of order $Λm/Q^2$ and ${α_{QCD}\overπ} {m^2\over Q^2} \ln (Q^2/m^2…
Gluon fragmentation to $\chicJ(1P)$ followed by single photon emission represents the dominant source of prompt $J/Ψ$'s at the Tevatron for $p_\perp \gtap 6 \GeV$. Since fragmenting gluons are approximately transverse, their products are significantly polarized. We find that gluon fragmentation populates the helicity levels of $\chione$, $\chitwo$ and $J/Ψ$ according to $D_{\chione^{(h=0)}}: D_{\chione^{(|h|=1)}} \simeq 1:1$, $D_{\chitwo^{(h=0)}} : D_{\chitwo^{(|h|=1)}} : D_{\chitwo^{(|h|=2)}} \simeq 1:2.9:6.0$ and $D_{\J^{(h=0)}} : D_{\J^{(|h|=1)}} \simeq 1:3.4$. We also speculate that gluon …
As confirmed by some recent LEP data on phi, K^* and D^*0 production, final state interactions in quark fragmentation may give origin to non-zero values of the off-diagonal element rho_{1,-1} of the helicity density matrix of vector mesons produced in e^+ e^- annihilations: we give estimates for rho_{1,-1} of vector mesons with a large x_E and collinear with the parent jet, relating its size and sign to the associated hard constituent dynamics. We mention possible non-zero values of rho_{1,-1} in several other processes.
We discuss the application of an analytic approach called the analytic perturbation theory (APT) to the QCD analysis of DIS data. In particular, the results of the QCD analysis of a set of `fake' data on the polarized nonsinglet Delta{q3} and the nonsinglet fragmentation function D^{pi+}_{u_v} by using the Q^2-evolution within the APT are considered. The `fake' data are constructed based on parametrization of the polarized PDF and nonsinglet combination of the pion fragmentation functions. We confirm that APT can be successfully applied to QCD analysis of Delta{q_3}(x,Q^2) and D^{pi+}_{u_v}(z,…
We revisit our recursive model for the fragmentation of polarized quarks based on the string+${}^3P_0$ mechanism of $q\bar{q}$ pair creation. We make a different choice for one input function of the model that simplifies the implementation in a Monte Carlo program. No new parameters are introduced, and the relevant results are the same apart from the suppression of the spin-independent correlations between successive quarks. In addition, the present version is more suitable for an interface with external event generators. The theoretical aspects and the simulation results obtained with a stand…
We present a model for Monte Carlo simulation of the fragmentation of a polarized quark. The model is based on string dynamics and the ${}^3P_0$ mechanism of quark pair creation at string breaking. The fragmentation is treated as a recursive process, where the splitting function of the subprocess $q \to h + q'$ depends on the spin density matrix of the quark $q$. The ${}^3P_0$ mechanism is parametrized by a complex mass parameter $μ$, the imaginary part of which is responsible for single spin asymmetries. The model has been implemented in a Monte Carlo program to simulate jets made of pseudosc…
