The paper is concerned with the correlation functions of the characteristic polynomials of random matrices with independent complex entries. We investigate how the asymptotic behavior of the correlation functions depends on the second moment of the common probability law of the matrix entries, a sort of ``reality measure'' of the entries. It is shown that the correlation functions behave like that for the Complex Ginibre Ensemble up to a factor depending only on the second moment and the fourth absolute moment of the common probability law of the matrix entries.
A Jacobi matrix with matrix entries is a self-adjoint block tridiagonal matrix with invertible blocks on the off-diagonals. Averaging over boundary conditions leads to explicit formulas for the averaged spectral measure which can potentially be useful for spectral analysis. Furthermore another variant of spectral averaging over coupling constants for these operators is presented.
A Jacobi matrix with matrix entries is a self-adjoint block tridiagonal matrix with invertible blocks on the off-diagonals. The Weyl surface describing the dependence of Green's matrix on the boundary conditions is interpreted as the set of maximally isotropic subspace of a quadratic from given by the Wronskian. Analysis of the possibly degenerate limit quadratic form leads to the limit point/limit surface theory of maximal symmetric extensions for semi-infinite Jacobi matrices with matrix entries with arbitrary deficiency indices. The resolvent of the extensions is explicitly calculated.
We extend the results about the fluctuations of the matrix entries of regular functions of Wigner matrices to the case of sample covariance random matrices.
The paper is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of the correlation functions of the characteristic polynomials of non-Hermitian random matrices with independent entries. It is shown that the correlation functions behave like that for the Complex Ginibre Ensemble up to a factor depending only on the fourth absolute moment of the common probability law of the matrix entries.
We investigate the number of real entries of an $n\times n$ complex Hadamard matrix (CHM). We analytically derive the numbers when $n=2,3,4,6$. In particular, the number can be any one of $0-22,24,25,26,30$ for $n=6$. We apply our result to the existence of four mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) in dimension six, which is a long-standing open problem in quantum physics and information. We show that if four MUBs containing the identity matrix exists then the real entries in any one of the remaining three matrices does not exceed $22$.
A selfadjoined block tridiagonal matrix with positive definite blocks on the off-diagonals is by definition a Jacobi matrix with matrix entries. Transfer matrix techniques are extended in order to develop a rotation number calculation for its eigenvalues. This is a matricial generalization of the oscillation theorem for the discrete analogues of Sturm-Liouville operators. The three universality classes of time reversal invariance are dealt with by implementing the corresponding symmetries. For Jacobi matrices with random matrix entries, this leads to a formula for the integrated density of sta…
In this note, we extend the results about the fluctuations of the matrix entries of regular functions of Wigner random matrices obtained in arXiv:1103.3731 [math.PR] to Wigner matrices with non-i.i.d. entries provided certain Lindeberg type conditions for the fourth moments of the off-diagonal entries and the second moments of the diagonal entries are satisfied. In addition, we relax our conditions on the test functions and require that for some $s>3 \ \int (1+|k|)^{2s}\*|\hat{f}(k)|^2 \* dk <\infty.$
For random matrix ensembles with non-gaussian matrix elements that may exhibit some correlations, it is shown that centered traces of polynomials in the matrix converge in distribution to a Gaussian process whose covariance matrix is diagonal in the basis of Chebyshev polynomials. The proof is combinatorial and adapts Wigner's argument showing the convergence of the density of states to the semicircle law.
This paper is a continuation of our paper "Fluctuations of Matrix Elements of Regular Functions of Gaussian Random Matrices", J. Stat. Phys. (134), 147--159 (2009), in which we proved the Central Limit Theorem for the matrix elements of differential functions of the real symmetric random Gaussian matrices (GOE). Here we consider the real symmetric random Wigner matrices having independent (modulo symmetry conditions) but not necessarily Gaussian entries. We show that in this case the matrix elements of sufficiently smooth functions of these random matrices have in general another limiting law …
It is a classical result of Wigner that for an hermitian matrix with independent entries on and above the diagonal, the mean empirical eigenvalue distribution converges weakly to the semicircle law as matrix size tends to infinity. In this paper, we prove analogs of Wigner's theorem for random matrices taken from all infinitesimal versions of classical symmetric spaces. This is a class of models which contains those studied by Wigner and Dyson, along with seven others arising in condensed matter physics. Like Wigner's, our results are universal in that they only depend on certain assumptions a…
We study the fluctuations of the matrix entries of regular functions of Wigner random matrices in the limit when the matrix size goes to infinity. In the case of the Gaussian ensembles (GOE and GUE) this problem was considered by A.Lytova and L.Pastur in J. Stat. Phys., v.134, 147-159 (2009). Our results are valid provided the off-diagonal matrix entries have finite fourth moment, the diagonal matrix entries have finite second moment, and the test functions have four continuous derivatives in a neighborhood of the support of the Wigner semicircle law.
We develop techniques to compute the k-th Moment of the Eigenvalue-statistic for a random Matrix M the entries of which do not have to be necessarily Independent. The dependence is controlled via an equivalence relation on the pairs of the entries of M. Furthermore the entries are weighted, that means they are multiplied with a Riemann-integrable function on (0,1). Finally also weak convergence in probability of the Eigenvalue statsitic is discussed not for the weighted Matrix but also for band matrices the band-width of which behaves like o(N).
We show that if the non Gaussian part of the cumulants of a random matrix model obey some scaling bounds in the size of the matrix, then Wigner's semicircle law holds. This result is derived using the replica technique and an analogue of the renormalisation group equation for the replica effective action. This is a transcript of a talk given at "5th Winter Workshop on Non-Perturbative Quantum Field Theory" Sophia-Antipolis, March 2017 and is based on former work in collaboration with A. An elliptic random matrix $X$ is a square matrix whose $(i,j)$-entry $X_{ij}$ is independent of the rest of the entries except possibly $X_{ji}$. Elliptic random matrices generalize Wigner matrices and non-Hermitian random matrices with independent entries. When the entries of an elliptic random matrix have mean zero and unit variance, the empirical spectral distribution is known to converge to the uniform distribution on the interior of an ellipse determined by the covariance of the mirrored entries. We consider elliptic random matrices whose entries fail to have two finite moments. Our main …
We consider $N\times N$ Hermitian random matrices with independent identically distributed entries (Wigner matrices). We assume that the distribution of the entries have a Gaussian component with variance $N^{-3/4+β}$ for some positive $β>0$. We prove that the local eigenvalue statistics follows the universal Dyson sine kernel.
We show that Wigner semi-circle law holds for Hermitian matrices with dependent entries, provided the deviation of the cumulants from the normalised Gaussian case obeys a simple power law bound in the size of the matrix. To establish this result, we use replicas interpreted as a zero-dimensional quantum field theoretical model whose effective potential obey a renormalisation group equation.
In this paper we consider Wigner random matrices -- symmetric n by n random matrices whose entries are independent identically distributed real random variables. We prove that the probability distribution of one or several eigenvalues close to the center of the spectrum does not depend on the probability distribution of the entries of the matrix and is the same as for the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble. We make only mild smoothness assumptions on the probability distribution of the entries and assume that the probability distribution of the entries decays polynomially with sufficiently large pow…
By using the quasi-determinant the construction of Gel'fand et al. leads to the inverse of a matrix with noncommuting entries. In this work we offer a new method that is more suitable for physical purposes and motivated by deformation quantization, where our constructed algorithm emulates the commutative case and in addition gives corrections coming from the noncommutativity of the entries. Furthermore, we provide an equivalence of the introduced algorithm and the construction via quasi-determinants.
We consider random $n\times n$ matrices $X$ with independent and centered entries and a general variance profile. We show that the spectral radius of $X$ converges with very high probability to the square root of the spectral radius of the variance matrix of $X$ when $n$ tends to infinity. We also establish the optimal rate of convergence, that is a new result even for general i.i.d. matrices beyond the explicitly solvable Gaussian cases. The main ingredient is the proof of the local inhomogeneous circular law [arXiv:1612.07776] at the spectral edge.
We study the asymptotic behavior of outliers in the spectrum of bounded rank perturbations of large random matrices. In particular, we consider perturbations of elliptic random matrices which generalize both Wigner random matrices and non-Hermitian random matrices with iid entries. As a consequence, we recover the results of Capitaine, Donati-Martin, and Féral for perturbed Wigner matrices as well as the results of Tao for perturbed random matrices with iid entries. Along the way, we prove a number of interesting results concerning elliptic random matrices whose entries have finite fourth mome…
We apply the method of determinants to study the distribution of the largest singular values of large $ m \times n $ real rectangular random matrices with independent Cauchy entries. We show that statistical properties of the (rescaled by a factor of $ \frac{1}{m^2\*n^2}$)largest singular values agree in the limit with the statistics of the inhomogeneous Poisson random point process with the intensity $ \frac{1}π x^{-3/2} $ and, therefore, are different from the Tracy-Widom law. Among other corollaries of our method we show an interesting connection between the mathematical expectations of the…
Exact evaluation of $<{\rm Tr} S^p>$ is here performed for real symmetric matrices $S$ of arbitrary order $n$, up to some integer $p$, where the matrix entries are independent identically distributed random variables, with an arbitrary probability distribution. These expectations are polynomials in the moments of the matrix entries ; they provide useful information on the spectral density of the ensemble in the large $n$ limit. They also are a straightforward tool to examine a variety of rescalings of the entries in the large $n$ limit.
